I was very pleased about this. Logically, given how fast hyperspace travel can be, it always made sense that travel between galaxies ought to be possible. But because it wasn't canon in the early EU, writers blatantly ripped off Star Trek and proposed that there was a "galactic barrier" that prevented travel to and from the Star Wars galaxy. In Ahsoka, we see that there is no barrier. You merely need a ship with a massively over-powered hyperdrive to reach the necessary speeds (as shown in the different visual effect) and navigational data. Another interesting point that Huyang brought up is that the Jedi Order knew about the purrgils and at least some of their hyperspace routes between galaxies. Baylan confirms this in that Jedi younglings were told stories about Peridea. Then we find massive monuments indicating that the Ones have some connection to Peridea as well. So the Celestials apparently traveled between galaxies, and may not have gone extinct, but rather simply left.

I’m surprised the haters didn’t take the opportunity to bitch about how “they’re changing hyperspace? They’re disrespecting us fans again! #notMystarwars!”

They crapped the bed on Hyperspace lore in the sequel trilogy, but all Ahsoka did was say: "So there a purrgil, they travel in pods throughout hyperspace, and are so attuned to it they have the energy to travel back and forth from a neighboring galaxy."
And that was it. The very first thing in Star Wars we see is: "In a galaxy far far away." It says "a" galaxy implying more than one. And there was never any lore out there that said hyperspace can only take place in this specific galaxy. It's just a matter of having the route, the engines, and the fuel reserves to travel that far. Same thing as all other hyperspace jumps in the Star Wars universe.

excellent. new to your channel. I also noticed in Disney lore that the characters are able to use their onboard ship communicators while in Hyperspace transit. in Legends there was an entire galactic network of communication outposts spread throughout civilized space. After the Empire manifested, it was called The Imperial Holonet. however this could not be accessed while in hyperspace. several books described how one would need to drop out of Hyperspace, even interrupting pre-plotted courses, just to send a message at this or that holonet beacon. This changed with the new Lore. I think we first saw it in Rogue One when Cassian was receiving orders while on their way to Scarif

What bothers me is that I remember a while ago I was looking up other existing Galaxies in Star Wars, and I found somewhere that said that the neighbouring galaxies do not have intelligent life, they're inhabited by grotesque monsters and full of dying stars, but this apparently retcons all of that.

The visual depictions of the satellite galaxies surrounding the SW galaxy seem to contain a lot of bright stars. If the retcon were true, that wouldn't be the case. But I think that the issue goes back further to the old Legends EU. Some authors writing for that decided to avoid having to deal with other galaxies by shamelessly stealing the idea of a "galactic barrier" from Star Trek. Filoni isn't so determined to confine the story to one galaxy, and so he has ditched that idea and now it's more a matter of having a powerful hyperdrive and some idea of where you're trying to go.

That's nothing new. Go back and rewatch the OT, remembering as you do that those films were released three years apart. The Force does very little in ANH. ESB greatly expanded what could be done using it. RotJ introduced Force Lightning near the end of the movie. Then, 16 years passed IRL before the prequels started to come out and new uses of the Force continued to be introduced.

Didn't change it for me. I disavow this mess. At this point calling it anything other than Disney Wars is just deadnaming Star Wars.

I agree with @colonelblastpack169, well done, clear, and very educational. I'm also new to your channel.
