-Our Intro Song "Feel the Love" From Alex's band
open.spotify.com/album/4Dao8y... - ภาพยนตร์และแอนิเมชัน
No Auto-tune, computers or Pro Tools in sight. Just alcohol and drugs. Pure madness and greatness.
From what I understand they weren’t into drugs. Just alcohol which is in and of itself a drug. Only Glover liked to smoke weed. Gillan said in an interview that he didn’t smoke his first joint until he was 38.
AMEN!!! PURE ROCK and ROLL!!! GOD: JUST SO GOOD!
No drugs here.
Sex, drinks and rock'n'roll was the theme for this version of Deep Purple 😉
Drugs came with Tommy Bolin and Glenn Hughes - and them only...
Talent? You missed something, didn't you?
This entire album is a gem.
One of my favorites when I was in high school 1974.
@@LenProbert Same.
Best live album ever!
@@uncnorseman2670 I'd argue for Allman Brothers Band Live at Fillmore East but Made in Japan ranks as closely as any can.
The " Come Taste the Band" album with 🎸 Guitarist Tommy Bolin replaced Blackmore for their last of the 70's ?
If not check " Dealer" .
Let me know you're thoughts !
I love Bolin and that album is way too overlooked. For me 🔥 start to finish. Not comparing with MKII Purple which I also love. It's just different.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, being a teenager in the seventies was freakin' awesome!
Truth!
100 % accurate!! I was there, and I’d give anything to go back lol
I was there... in my teens in the '70s. Best decade ever!!!
Amen brother!!
Yeah, in 1973 I saw : Floyd, Ziggy Stardust, ELP, Zeppelin, The Who and Tull.
This lineup is the best, imho, but Ian Paice deserves special kudos. His drumming is impeccable.
Absolutely.
He is one bad ass drummer!
👍👍
micky moody once met me, while the gillan band once supported my rock roadshow in the 80's!!
I saw this one twice and the Hughes/Coverdale/Bolin lineup once. I absolutely agree with you but they were both amazing and I could listen to them all day long. I had been listening to Trapeze and Tommy Bolin so I knew what I was getting there but what a surprise the unknown David Coverdale turned out to be!
The video is from a show in Denmark earlier in 1972 but it adds to the experience.
This album Made In Japan came out in the U.S. in 1973 when I was a junior in high school. I played this to death on every medium available. Album, 8 track, reel to reel. It's a rock and roll classic!!!
Yeah me too this was the very first deep purple album that I ever purchased in cassette form and used to play it non-stop in my car!! Sounds like we're about the same age, I was a junior in 73 also!! As somebody else said the Allman Brothers live album also was another one that I played a lot along with Grand Funk live!!
EL MEJOR LIVE DE LA HISTORIA DEL ROCK!!!!!
@@BenChokin that's probably because they were the most "fire" recordings at the time!!
Those were the days!!
I saw the Allman Brothers live in 1975 in Indianapolis. They opened for Muddy Waters.@@bernardsalvatore1929
I don't know if you like Sci Fi but Amazon has a series The Expanse. Season 3 Episode 7 features a cover. It gave me chills to hear it! Born in 60 I had to grow into Deep Purple a bit but My Woman From Tokyo caught me up early!
Ian Gillan is one of the best vocalists of all time. You should really try to listen to Strange Kind Of Woman from Made In Japan. His vocals are incredible not to mention one of the best screams in rock history.
Yeah, he's a bit of a screamer. That's also why he was so good as Jesus. Being whipped so much, and all that...
Gillan is definitely a gifted vocalist! ❤️ Gillan! The entire band is incredibly talented!
Yep, that's what I suggested to. Strange Kind Of Woman. The interplay between Gillian's vocals & Blackmore's guitar is just fantastic.
One of the best screams? It’s the best ever.
Hard to believe Terry Reed was their first choice for vocalist and Gillian was second, great as Reed is I like Gillian better
I remember hearing Made In Japan for the first time one night. We had all the lights off and had it on full blast. I can't remember what I was on, but what a night.
50 years later, it's still sad that the director couldn't find the guitarist...
The best live recording of one of the best hard rock songs ever. The studio version is great, but this elevates it to another level. This performance is on the bleeding edge of control - amazing. The whole band totally smokes. It doesn't get much better than this.
The song behind 10,000 speeding tickets!
The day I bought my first guitar, I found a radio station that night the was only playing Deep Purple over night. I air-guitared (WITH a guitar) the hell out of that stuff. That set me down the Purple path for a few years.
This is BETTER than the studio version. Get it right, kids.
Everyone in this band was a great musician.
Nothing like a Jon Lord organ solo. He was just amazing.
EVERYBODY has to rock in Deep Purple! No relaxing!
Everyone in this band was an absolute Beast for the time. Ian Pace was one of the greatest Rock and Roll Drummers to hit a stage. Before the days of great drummers like Neil Peart, Mike Portnoy, Mike Mangini and Joey Jordison, there was Ian Pace, John Bonham, Dino Donelli, Mitch Mitchell and Don Brewer. They were my early heroes.
The video is from a different show in Copenhagen also from 1972. It was released on DVD. Also, regarding the "I'm a highway star" vocal part, the higher part IS the harmony while the lower part is the main melody. That's why Ian stayed with the lower part.
Blackmore was a hard guy to work for. He was a perfectionist and demanded that of others. The Deep Purple guys all adopted and adhered to that work ethic and so fit together like a glove.
One of the greatest live albums ever!!
To hear Ian Gillan's best screams ever you should listen to the end of the "Strange Kind of Woman" track on Made in Japan. He duets with Richie on guitar and it is phenomenal.
It’s a crime that the cameraman wasnt on Richie for most of the solo smh
YOURE FIRED!!!!!!
Same with the keyboards, horrible camera work
The camera work wasn't the greatest back then. LOL
The video is from another show
The video editing in general sucks back then, every so often you get a band shot but much of the time focus on members who are not being featured, what the Hell were they thinking of? I could have done a better job, LOL! At least we have some video evidence of them performing. Cal Jam 74 is much better camera work.
This footage is from another show in Denmark. But! The danish TV people indeed DID film it quite poorly. My theory is, they just didn't know who does what sounds in a rockband... maybe older semesters....
This is so "S" you'd be hissing! It's Deep Purple - nothing more needs to be said. First heard them as a child and I think my brain exploded ... wow! I just sat there with my mouth hanging open. Beyond awesome!
Ian talked quite often about how he used his vocal range in concert. He saved the highest notes for "Sweet Child in Time" which they performed in most shows(he couldn't do it every night). Listen to the live version...you'll understand.
The sound is from Made in Japan, but if I'm not mistaken the footage is from a concert in Copenhagen (maybe the same one Lars Ulrich says he was at?). You should be able to find the whole CPH concert somewhere, it's great!
Best live album of all time bar none
Guys, you've got to do "Smoke On the Water" from Made in Japan. It is the quintessential version of the song, but for some reason nobody ever reacts to it. It's absolutely S tier.
Blows the studio version away!
The intro and outlook are incredible. Totally agree it's exceptional, and possibly the best live version of any song, ever!
Best rock band and rock vocalist of all time.
Love Deep Purple, and this live album was huge back in the day! Thanks guys!
One of the greatest hard rock bands, and the tightest rhythm section of the era.
Ian Gillian is one of the most underrated vocalists in rock. Listen to his vocals on Gethsemane from the original "Jesus Christ Superstar" album.
There’s video on YT!
You must be newly hatched. "underrated" by who???? Anyone been around in those days still kicking today knows Ian is in the pantheon.
Hey A&A! Made in Japan just might be the greatest live album ever recorded! Not a dull moment on it!
Yes.. this one and UFO Strangers in the Night
@@zephead64And Yessongs!👍😎
To me Made In Japan is THE greatest live rock album of all time. Period. The musicianship, the explosive energy, the improvisation, the song quality and the virtuoso performances of five musicians at the peak of their power put this live rock album on top of all others.
Well said!👍😎@@frankpentangeli7945
This is really good but Grand Funk Railroad “ Live” 1970 is a little bit better from start to finish.😊👍👏🎤🎸🎹🥁😎
One of the Best Live Performances and Live Albums ever *. "Lazy" is my favorite, but all the tracks are extraordinary. *😉
Jon Lord's opening solo on "Lazy" makes it about as good as they ever get. Makes Made In Japan "Lazy" my favorite Deep Purple cut.
Yes, Lazy cannot be stopped.
..of the day not required in that sentance.
Ian Gillan absolutely could do it. From this same show check out Strange Kind of Woman for some classic Gillan vocal gymnastics. He matches note for note with Richie Blackmore's guitar and holds a scream for way longer than humanly possible. Great reaction-again.
I'm 62 yrs. old. This has always been my favorite song from my favorite band as a child!
The album is s tier . I'm 67 and grew up listening to deep purple. Awesome live band
So often in old videos, for some reason the cameraman or the director has no idea who is playing the solo.
I wish you do ‘Woman from Tokyo’ by Deep Purple. Great scream by Gillian on that song. Just a great song overall.
1970’s Purple were incredible live whether Gillan/Glover, Coverdale/Hughes or Tommy Bolin. Saw them all and they were all great
You’re right this from a different concert. But the consistency of them live is next level.
When Deep Purple first appeared, they were so unique. Everyone said "Wait! What? Who's that!?!?" They are a classic head banger band. Great song. Car, girl and head....what else do you need?
I wonder if you're familiar w DP's '60s work? Specifically, 'THE BOOK OF TALIESYN'... similar sound sonically, but completely different vibe. It was, loosely, a concept album, based on the legend of King Arthur- according to some legends, Taliesyn was a Welsh wizard/mystic & advisor to the king. Most of the songs contain references to the kingdom, & there's an overlay of mysticism! I recommend 'Listen, Learn, Read On' to start! (BTW, the album is very 'weed-friendly'- LOL!)
She’s got a moving mouth. 😎
My generation had the best music, and I was fortunate enough to see many of the greats in concert ! 🤘🤪🍄🍻
Ditto
Deep Purple Live in New York 1973. Stick the old cans on!🎧🔊
OMG. Junior high school days. One of our upper classmen drove us youngers to school in his Camaro. This was one of his 8-tracks. We listened to it a LOT! First time I've seen this live performance. Gotta say, he doesn't look like he's working hard at all. What an epic voice. Great stuff, guys.
In the Made in Japan tour, Gillian and Blackmore weren't talking, they traveled in separate cars and had separate sound checks. Also, the Made in Japan album was released as recorded, there weren't any studio overdubs. One of my favorite live albums.
Singers pace themselves. On the same tour they played Child In Time with incredible high notes, He did NOT have problems.
Wrote the song on a bus on the way to a gig, played it that night..
Yes to a gig to Portsmouth
Audio is from the 'Made in Japan' album.
Video is from Copenhagen, Denmark.
One of the very best live albums EVER. The "lazy" cut is superb
Thank you for doing Deep Purple!
Ian Gillan has said that he was a bit ill in his throat during the Japan shows on the tour. He also was doing "Child in time" right after "Highway Star". I guess both are good reasons why he wouldn't go to extremes on the first song.
One of the best songs written. And performed perfection 😊
Me singing this at the top of my lungs in my silver '91 Eagle Talon, flyin' down the highway; one of my best memories. I "raced it to the ground". Thanks A & A, let's get more Deep Purple on!
Cousins turned me on to this tune in the 70's. I STILL get a rush from listening to it. Every. Single. Time. Rock on!
Deep Purple put on a great concert and had a lot of good albums. Blackmoore was a beast. All of them were great.
I couldn't wait for this song whenever I saw them live. Imagine this 20 times louder. Loved this video. Thanks.
My favourite concert of them all!
@@j.h.3777 Can't argue against that.
The 70's were the best.... I'm glad I got to live it...! 😎
That's how it is done, boys. You do it better live.💯💯💯🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥😎😎😎😎😎😎
Jethro Tull live is a must!! Ian Anderson is such a showman and a madman on the flute!
I saw Tull, front row back in the late 1970s...you're right Ian is one of the best showmen in rock history. The whole band, actually. Side note: Did you know Ian, who never smoked, has lung cancer & his doctor says it's from performing surrounded by smoke machines onstage for all those years. He hated the smoke but promoters, managers etc insisted it looked "cool" so Ian gave in. Apparently he's not exactly dying of the cancer but what a thing to live with, huh?
No, that sucks!
Certainly an S tier for me, such an intense groove, I don’t know how loud you guys listen but for me this is in the walls shaking end of volume, kinda up there with Jesus Christ Pose
Loudest band I ever saw live.
WHAT TOOK YOU SO LONG? When I was a kid we used to air guitar air drum air keyboard this song over and over again. And THIS version. Possibly the greatest live album of all time
Without the "possibly". 😄
Oh this is one I’ve been waiting for. Better than the studio version, absolutely great cut 🔥
Agree, they are freaking on fire live! 🔥
Probably Rock's greatest singer.
There is no video from the Made in Japan album so they synced the music to the video from when they played in Denmark. The audio from the M. I. J. is the best! Check out "Strange Kind of Woman" next, as you have not done that song yet, and is has a part where the vocals and guitar do a duel!
Welcome back to a World that Im Familiar with !! Fecking Awsome !!!!
This album was recorded over 3 nights in Japan - no overdubs - the album is reckoned to be one of the best live albums of all time. This was the show opener- as a singer myself you try not to overstrain at the start of a concert - you need to warm up the vocal cords - later in the show Gillan hits the highs. As Gillan states Purple were (and still are) an instrumental band with added vocals.
this was my 1st Purple album as a boy of 13,it's an amazing experience,I'm now 57 & still listen to it often
Oh hell. Buckle up guys. Enjoy this epic song.
Said it before and ill say it again....not many things in this world prettier than a Rickenbacker bass guitar ❤
But unfortunately lots of instruments prettier to play ;). And cheaper! It was my holy grail instrument for the longest time though
Everyone of them are masters of their craft.
Doesn't Ian Gillian look like a f___in' rock star! Head banging that mop, belting out holy hell. Man, those were great times!
Like the fact you chose to play the live video, it really adds to the experience. Getting to watch Ritchie, Jon, Roger and the two Ian's do their thing is so much fun. And, of course, "Highway Star" is one of Deep Purple's BEST songs, so much energy. Mark II DP rules!
Too bad this vid left out a lot of what jon and Richie could do--argghhh!
Agreed, the director was a little bit LAME-O. Gotta go where the action is.@@joescott8877
As I stated earlier in the comments, the audio is from made in Japan, and the video is from Copenhagen Denmark just a few months earlier
This is probably my favorite song ever. A 10 out of 10 hands down!
The video is from Copenhagen 72. I was there, my first concert. Amazing. You should see the whole show, its on dvd.
You can never go wrong with Deep Purple, love them! Need a V-8 to drive with this song in the car.
One of my top ten live albums. And a serious threat to your eardrums in person.
Loudest band I ever saw live. Also one of the very best.
Gillan was actually sick during the recording of the Japan concerts. Still you would not notice it theoughout the concert and in fact he always sang the highway star this way after it was released. He would definitely be able to sing it higher if he chose so…
Brilliant fellas no interruptions and a complete understanding of the music in it entirety, I was 14 years old when this show rolled into town, Glasgow Apollo Theatre1972 life has never been the same, it was that special.
Thats the beauty of analog dudes. You would never know what you were going to get when your favorite band came to your town.
Nobody does it like this anymore guys!!! Thanks for sharing great song. They were definitely at their prime at this time.
I remember back in the day this was considered to be "heavy metal", now it's just thought of as rock n roll. Good to see you guys doing reactions to live performances again. 😁🤘✌️
The absolute best Deep Purple lineup at the absolute peak of their powers! S all day! The soundtrack of my youth...
Great live sound. Frenetic tempo, pure rock n roll, but they somehow make it look easy.
DEEP PURPLE FOREVER!!!!!! Thanks for this reaction!!!
For any Hard Rock aficionado, Made In Japan is must own vinyl. Forget videos, drop needle, it’s all in the grooves.
Audio is from the live album Made In Japan. The video is from an earlier concert in Copenhagen. Absolutely crushing.
Beautiful 70s rock more of that please
If you really want the high notes from Ian Gillan , then you need to check out , Strange Kind Of Woman , live from 1972 . Ian and Ritchie go back and forth with high notes . You will like !
"Made in Japan" is one of the greatest rock live albums. Also great are in my opinion "Rainbow" - "Rainbow On Stage", "Thin Lizzy" - "Live & Dangerous", "Led Zeppelin" - "The Song Remains The Same", "UFO" - "Strangers In The Night",.... Enjoy!
Great to see UFO getting more online love these days. 🎸
Made in Japan is my #1 and UFO Strangers in the Night is my #2. There’s a gap between them and my next group of live albums, which include Mott the Hoople Live, Grand Funk Live, David Bowie Live from the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium 10-20-1972.
All those are in my top 5 best live albums of all time.
@@stevefitzgerald5183 Tastes are different. In my opinion David Bowie is overrated 😅
Add the WHO and Live at Leeds and Pink Floyd's Pulse and that is a great list indeed.
I never got over this song. Deep Purple! Wow
To be a teenager in the seventies was awesome! Love the LZ tee, I was at those shows (LZ). I love Deep Purple! Put this song on in your car you may get a speeding ticket!
This album has a reputation as being one of, if not the, greatest live album of all time for a reason.....it's f**king awesome! Recording wise, performance wise, atmosphere wise.....just brilliant.
I have a Japanese pressing of this LP but it is titled "Live In Japan" for obvious reasons.....as the LP is literally made in Japan.😄 Stunning sound quality!
Andy's right about the footage....there's too many Westerners (Americans or English?) in the audience for a concert in Japan!😉
MORE RICHIE BLACKMORE PLEASE!!! either Deep Purple or Rainbow. Rainbows first two records with Ronnie James Dio as the singer are CLASSIC albums
Thanks so much for this. I had never heard it, nor even heard of it. Very impressed. It's what I enjoy about being a part of this channel. Cheers.
My first concert was Deep Purple in 1973 in Providence rhode island. So awesome!!!!
The keyboard is so prominent in Deep Purple because he's playing a Hammond Organ through a Marshall amp.
I have always said that Roger Glover was so good, that he played Lead Guitar riffs on his bass.
So glad you have the video too❤❤❤ Headbanger of the 70's. It's brilliant!
The footage from this show is from Copenhagen with the audio from Made In Japan. The Copenhagen show has versions of The Mule and Space Truckin that are unbelievable.
That right there? That’s as good as it gets. 🔥🔥🔥🔥 The fact that that Gillan didn’t hit all the shriek notes is whatever. They were rocking hard AF, and for me that’s what counts. Also, if you dig Deep Purple, you ought to hear Big Elf. Songs like Neuropsychopathic Eye, and Death Walks Behind You really deliver the goods.
not only did they write great songs but also did great cover versions like their take on neil diamond's kentucky woman ⚛😀
Can't believe you never heard this song! What a banger, indeed!
This album, with this song opening it, is my first real musical memory. This album made me want to make music myself since I was 4 years old!
