My thoughts on the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE vs. the Galaxy A54. Make no mistake about it, the S23 FE is definitely the better phone, but unless you care about some key areas, it might be worth it to save a few dollars and pick up the Galaxy A54.

I'm enjoying my A54! The thing with the S23 FE is that it's really an S22 FE with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. If it even had a Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1, I'd consider it close enough to be an S23 FE, but it doesn't have it, so I think I will be sticking with my A54 for a long time. It's a great phone for the price.

True, I'm disappointed that Samsung decided to use the 8 Gen 1 (Exynos 2200 in others) instead of at least the 8+ Gen 1 from the Z Flip 4 and Z Fold 4, which is a huge step up over the regular 8 Gen 1. Feels like another missed opportunity for Samsung.
Also, the A54 5G is FAR more affordable than getting the S23 FE (though the A34 5G is a much better deal as it is more optimized than the A54 5G because of the Mediatek Dimensity SoC).

@oneman6550 Oh, I know. I just think they should have stuck in an a Gen 2 or 8 plus Gen 1. That is my opinion. It may be better optimized, but it still has the brains of an S22.
If you find it good enough for you, however, go get yourself one. I do think it's a good phone for the price. I just think they should have given it the S23 chip and raised the price a bit. It is called S23 FE, so it should have the S23 chip. Otherwise, they should have called it the S22 Ghost or S22 RE for Revisit.
@highclasslowlife3629 People crack me up renaming the phone. I guess to justify their own purchase or something. They have to downgrade it to make themself feel better for an obvious lesser purchase. Its funny because most likely they only watched TH-cam videos and have no practical experience with the device they are downgrading.
What a bummer they got rid of the micro SD card slot support on the FE. Pretty much with semi-flagship phones in general. I used up my whole 256GB storage Pixel 7 on my New Zealand trip recently.
I'm using both s23 fe and a54 5g right now as my daily phone. A54 5g is literally can compete with s23 fe. To me the only different that really make s23 fe way better than a54 5g is the chipset and dex. Other than that its all not make so much different.
I personally got an a54 before the s23 fe came out. The FE has more features (e.g, wireless charging, Samsung DeX, aluminium frame and IP68 over IP67 on the a54), but where I live it got the Exynos 2200, and the price difference is RM1100 (about $230) which is a lot for me who doesn't even have a job yet. So I'm ok with my A54, pretty solid midrange phone.
Edit: also you get the 8/256 A54 for cheaper than the 6/128 in the USA, which adds even more to the value. A54 8/256 is RM1899 (about $410) in Malaysia.

I don't understand Samsung, what's the point of S23 FE with that design? They both killed A54's value and S23+, for US 200$ may sound normal but in other markets it's horrible. They already raised the priced up much higher because of the S23 FE release, before that they sold S23 in that price range. Don't get me wrong it's a nice phone but it's just an A54+ nowhere near to the main S series.
Ah, but then you do not have the s23 FE. We do. We have the s23 (6.1") and s23 FE (I like compact phones, my wife likes bigger screen). When I use my wife's s23 FE I barely notice any difference from my s23, so no, the s23 FE is NOT an A54+, more like a s23 Lite.
4:20 Honestly i was intrigued by the FE until i realized the a54 comes with better weather. I'd rather save a few bucks and spend it on sunscreen. 😎
My wife is very much an "average" phone user. She could care less about "state of the art", but she wants quality, and she doesn't switch out her phones every 1-2 years. Recently she traded in her old A52 5G and was going to get the A54. After comparing the A54 to the s23 FE she quickly decided on the s23 FE instead. Now, HOW you purchase your phones may play a role here. The price differential through our carrier with trade in was not all that much.

a54 uses Samsung modem and I don't trust Samsung modem. s23fe uses Qualcomm modem and I can trust it.
I was looking at both, S23 FE and A54, and I happy that I accidentally found your videos. I was thinking about the 256GB S23 FE for about $460 originally. After looking at your other videos for the S23 FE and even your A54, I am going with the A54 because the Straight Talk/Tracfone A54 is the same hardware as the unlocked A54, but you can get this A54 for $140. I just hope the software is the same.
I have had an A50, A51, and even S20 FE 5G, and I found out I do not really "premium" features when I switch to S20 FE 5G too. I do like the speed and camera's zoom of the S20 FE 5G, but I do not see the reason unless you need it for heavy gaming which I do not need. I like the macro camera in A51, and I used it more then any other camera too. I only used the zoom in selected photos.
I will the have this A54 in a few days to test out.
You got to ask yourself is that phone going to last the way the S23FE would I don't think so that phone will probably be dead within 24 months.
The frame means nothing to me because I am going to put it in a protective case anyway. However, I DO need a microSD card slot for my card full of music and videos. I don't game on my phone; I stick with my Playstation for that. I don't like wireless charging because it makes your phone overheat, especially with fast charging. I'm not a news photographer, so camera accuracy isn't a major concern for me. Finally, I'm not made of money, so I'm not going to be spending over $500 for a phone anyway. So I chose to get an A54.
Honestly though it's kind of funny that they're still charging 600 for the S23 FE. They're literally using the same parts bin of this device. Seems like it's cheaper just to go with the S22 and get the better build quality.
Im getting that A54 for that sweet sweet SD card slot, as an audiophile and cinema nerd I like to have my endless supply of FLAC files and cartoons and movies with me to save data, so that sweet sweet SD card slot is the win for me, and I can care two bits about the cameras or gaming on the phone, I use my phone entirely for media consumption
Bought the 23 fe for 400 on a Black Friday sale at Best buy for my girlfriend. She's only ever had budget phones before so i think she'll be very happy with it
I really like the wireless charging and SD card slot of my GS9. If I have to give up one it would probably be the SD card slot. But I'd need at least 256gb to make up for the lack of an expansion slot. That would masjid the cost difference even greater, though. If there were a way to add wireless charging to the A54 I'd go for it. Prior to my GS9, I had a GS 5 to which I was able to add wireless charging.
I'm waiting for a new flagship Samsung phone to replace my S20 Ultra, I NEEEEEEED SD card support but I might be waiting a long time...
Does the a54 has ufs 3.1?

I asked previously a few people, and yes , it does fit, but only issues are with the buttons , a54 buttons are situated a little lower than s23fe if I remember it well

Will a Samsung A54 or even an A14 last as long (say 4-6 yrs) as an S FE under regular use for a middle aged woman who happens to be my aunt?
Sort of, but...as time goes by and android/One UI updates roll out, due to its weaker processor the A54 may really begin to lag. The s23 FE will handle future upgrades much better.
It's basically better performance and better camera vs. An SD card slot. Besides that I don't notice a big difference. You can also get 8 gb ram in the A54.
I don't understand why these two phones are being compared at all other than they look alike trust me the performance everything else the S23FE will smoke that junk mid-ranger to each their own when that phone's dead in the next 12 to 24 months Don't say you didn't know.
@@katinasoutherland7693 I have the A52 also and it's still a great phone. Some midrangers are good and last a long time. I could definitely use the A52 as my daily driver still. I got rid of my A71, but that was another great Samsung midranger that had great longevity. That being said, both of those had snapdragon processors. Let's see if the Exynos holds up as well as the snapdragon midrange processors.
Better performance, better camera, but most importantly, it will handle upgrades over time far, far better. Nothing wrong with the A54, but it's not at all the same.
@@pcarlson214 my A52 is just as fast now as it was when I got it. The updates didn't slow it down.
@katinasoutherland7693 my last 3 phones being the S23, S21, and S10e....and now having the a54, it feels exactly the same....feels premium, no lag, works just as well as a device 2x the price... it isn't a junk phone at all....why such an elitist view on something so trivial? its a phone.....

Screen protector maybe but case im sure the button placements are different.
It would be nice if you made a comparison video, specially animations and smoothness with these devices, Samsung is the worst when it comes to animations, specially in the A series, I don't know how something so simple as swiping up to go home can be so difficult for them to optimize that it's extremely laggy. Specially after being some time on TH-cam
As an 54 owner I can guarantee you a smooth experience. As I watched many review who where complaining about stuttering, with Android 14 and One UI 6 the device is operating smooth and quick. No need to go for an S Model just for animations. Furthermore just optimize your needs via developer options 👍
I think they are both good for their price
S23 FE is better than A54 in several ways:
-brighter screen
-better cameras
-more RAM, in base model
-faster CPU
-much faster GPU
The S23 is worth the higher price.
The s23 fe just launched at freedom here in Canada with a black Friday deal that put it at a third of the price of a54. I ended up picking one up.
I pay mine 2$/month for 2 years with my bell plan, and I get a new one for same deal in 2 years after returning this one 😅

I think hands down the A54 is a very solid midrange device that offers a lot of value with of course, Samsungs stellar OneUI and it's commitment for updates. One answer that I couldn't find, does the S23 FE have DEX?

@@gordanbabic8028 I don't know. Why do you consider One UI a "mess"? Like many people I very much like One UI and it has increasingly become more versatile. It's a part of the reason I prefer Samsung phones.

If the price is right, sure, but the s23 FE performs very closely. We have both, and the difference is not all that great, unless the FE's bezels bug you.

Tbh im a little upset the A54 has an SD slot when my S23 doesn't.
Manufacturers only leave things like headphone jacks and SD card slots in budget phones these days because they don't think you're going to spend much on accessories like bluetooth headphones and cloud storage anyway. That's why they take them away from more expensive phones

For Black Friday the S23 FE 5G unlocked for $400 is the perfect price point. It’s definitely not worth $600, but I paid 500 for the S20 FE 5G 2 1/2 years ago & the camera & features were worth every penny. I think that once they started putting exynos chips in the A series which struggles with more than just gaming. I think the fe should be a better deal to start with. The price point should be $500. If it’s the budget version of the flagship series. It’s price point should be competing with the pixel A which is much more reasonable. In the law of diminishing returns I think you could make an argument of comparison for so many phones.
Just bought a 23 fe for 400 from best but on a Black Friday sale for my girlfriend. She's never had anything but budget phones so I'm sure she will love it
@@veilmontTV She will. The s23 FE sure doesn't perform like a budget phone. We have the s23 and s23 FE. In use, it's hard to tell the difference.

I personally would recommend buying a refurbished s22 plus over the s23 fe anyday but that's just me.
That's always an option, but not everyone wants a used phone, you don't always get a deal, you can't get it through your carrier, you have no idea how it was used. It's not for everyone.
I always like having a new phone, just doesn't seem to right getting a used phone it's like buying someone else's used underwear....

I think the biggest difference is texting on the devices. The a54 lags when typing. It's not as responsive, which can be frustrating.
