  • Agile Antechinus in a bird hide? What a surprise!!
We had a fun morning at Coolart Wetlands bird hides. Fun to see wetland birds, bush birds... and little Ninja marsupials bouncing around inside the roof of a bird hide!
Agile Antechinus might look cute but they are also aggressive predators of smaller creatures. They also have a very interesting reproductive life.
We had so much fun trying to photograph these super fast little critters!!

This was very cool. Lovely birds as always, but the little Agile Antechinus-es were a treat. Never seen them before and now I won't forget them. Good quacking joke and later puns too. 😉

Aren't they so cute! 😀 We saw them in this bird hide 2 years ago and we've always wanted to see them again. It was just so cool to see them again! 😀 ~ Karen

it was a really special surprise! 😀 We knew they lived there but hadn't seen them for 2 years so it was a real highlight when they popped out for a run. So cool!!! 😄 ~ Karen

@@CowboyJojosAdventures If you're going for walks in the bush around Castlemaine, keep an eye out for the Yellow-footed Antechinus at around dusk. They definitely live around there 😃

I don't think I'd want to watch them when they're hungry. They are a bit aggressive for food. 😄

So, this was an episode almost made for ME! 😍I wish I could use Duade's Antechinus-emoji here, alas, that's not possible. (How do you separate the Yellow-footed from the Agile?)

Aren't they the cutest! 😀 I think the distribution is different. The Agile (and Brown) are found more around Melbourne areas. Apparently they are the smallest of the antechinus. The Yellow-footed are a bit larger and have light coloured feet (hence their name). Duade lives up near Wangaratta so that's over 3 hours away from Melbourne & the Yellow-footed are seen in his local wetlands (Wiinton Wetlands). We've also seen the Yellow-footed in Bendigo (Crusoe Reservoir). 😊 ~ Karen

This was great. How long do the females live for please? They're just delightful lil creatures 🥰

I just looked it up but it's not a great answer either 😐 Looks like they can live over 2 years... but most die after one litter (hopefully that's not true) 😥... but they are super cute!!
