It's amazing how they evolved over time to fit the environment. The birds camouflage with their surroundings and have specialized feet while the croc camouflages and has high set eyes:)

Other birds that use this reproduction behavior are emus, ostriches, cassowaries, some parrot species and button quail.

I've never heard of a female bird abandoning their own chic's to the male before.
There are many species of birds were the mother has no part in raising the young.
It's actually not a bad survival strategy as the female can put more energy into laying the eggs, therefore producing 12 - 20 eggs per breeding season instead of just 2-3.
Other birds that use this reproduction behavior are emus, ostriches, cassowaries, some parrot species and button quail.
Pretty sure in the case of Ostriches both parents care for the young, no?

I agree with you, ostriches have been well studied. If the female ostrich always abandones the young to the male, I'm sure i would have remembered that.
