  • Elbow and Knee strikes are the cornerstones of an effective Muay Thai fighting strategy. Kru Nakapan can been seen here sparring with his student, both of whom, are making good use of light elbow and knee strikes. Notice that the strikes are executed with careful control not to hurt the training partner.
Elbows can easily cut a person's face so its important to use the forearm when making contact with a training partners head, face or body. The forearm has plenty of padding around it and will prevent cutting when thrown with care.
Knees should be pulled back particularly when using the tip of the knee to make contact with your training partners body. Under no circumstances should you strike someone in the head with a knee during training.
New Muay Thai students should begin introducing knees and elbows while clinching provided that they understand the level of contact that is acceptable in practice.
