As a sheer coincidence, I bought a SAE version of this gage last week. Love it! Its readings are accurate and repeatable, the bezel moves smoothly, and overall the gage feels refined. A pleasure to use. Really, its cost is quite competitive, IMO. I have an almost identical Chinese indicator. It reads accurately, but it's a bit crunchy overall. Even though it does everything it's supposed to, unlike the Mitutoyo, it's not a pleasure to use. A little frustrating at times, actually. Hence the recent purchase. I hope you're enjoying yours.

Hi Felix, awesome to hear you are happy with it. Mitutoyo make some really good stuff. I also love using the Mitutoyo tools. When it comes to precision tools, it doesn't pay to buy cheap measuring tools, since the whole reason for their use is to make accurate measurements / comparisons, and having something you can always trust and rely on pays off in the end. Keep well and thanks for the comment.

Hi Grant . What are you using a DTI for in your kind of work.? What do you do with it.

Hi Eugene, I don't actually use them that often. Around the time of making the video, I mainly used it to measure the runout on a drill press... was messing around with making a 'DIY' drill press more accurate. Among other things, I manufacture two products. www.burtsway.co.za/

@@GrantBurton A bit of overkill on a drill press but i like your style .😁Very nice product . I have a product idea but am not sure if electro plating is the way to go. Stainless is a bitch to work with. I saw your product on the 4 x 4 community forum .

@@GrantBurton I souped up an old drill press so that I can reverse it for tapping and for big holesaws and drills using a vfd and three phase motor. Its in my videos but thats where a milling machine shines because it also can take side loads whereas a drill by virtue of its bearings and morse taper cant. .

@@eugeneeman7710 Thank you. The Gas Bottle Stand seems to be gain popularity... thankfully. Yip, there was a discussion on 4x4 Community a while back 😁😎😁Stainless isn't to bad to work with once you know how (it's not easy, but not bad). For camping products, I think stainless is definitely a better choice when it comes to the gas bottle stand... lasts way longer than electro plated, but I guess it depends what the product is... some items are just not worth making out of stainless, unless you are making them for yourself.
Ended up installing 4 adjustable brass bolts on the drill press, 2 pairs 90 degrees to each other, which can be adjusted to remove any play / clearance issues from the quill. Runs pretty well now but of course doesn't come close to the accuracy and rigidity of a mill though... but it's only for drilling.

@@eugeneeman7710 That's cool... I wanted to do that but didn't have a spare VFD or three phase motor lying around... haha. For power tapping, I ended up modifying the drill press with a windscreen wiper motor mounted under the main 'drill press' motor, which can be decoupled. Installed a forward / reverse switch for tapping and unscrewing the tap and a DC power supply to power the wiper motor. Wiper motor drives through the belt system (so I can select the tapping speed I prefer). Seems to work pretty well.
For drilling, I've installed flooded coolant and an auto start/stop switch (which can be bypassed for normal manual operation)... so when activated, pulling down the quill auto starts the drill press and coolant flow, then when the quill fully retracts again, drill and coolant turn off. Works well for drilling multiples of the same part over and over again.

I was hoping for an assessment of functionality/accuracy, afterall that is the purpose of the tool.

Hi D, thanks for the comment. It is pretty much an unboxing video.

The title of the video does give the impression that it's an assessment of features, not simply an unboxing. Good way to scare off potential subscribers.
