Your story touches my heart. I was in an orphanage. One thing sure I didn't go hunger with plenty of appples and crispy pears. Thank you for your applebutter recipe.
Thank you for bringing back wonderful memories of my Dad holding a wooden clothes pole ( for propping up the wash hanging from the clothes line to dry clothes outside ) and Mom, my 3 sisters and I holding the old king size flat bedsheet to catch the apples dropping in the sheet, as my Dad would shake the high tree limbs full of apples! What fun! Lots of laughing and giggling and having an apple accidentally drop on your toe. LOL! Great recipe and thank you! God bless!🙏
I was so happy to see this. I’m 74 years old now but I remember apple butter from when I was a tiny girl. My daddy would fix me toast with apple butter and it was the most delicious stuff I ever had. What a wonderful memory! Now I can’t even find it. I’m going to try to make this and take a walk back in time. Thank you so much!
Someone may have already answered your question about the extra seal....when cooking savory stuff in pressure cooker, the seal can take on the smell of that.. So some people have 2 seals to interchange, using one for savory & one for sweets...
Thanks, this brings back memories of my Grandma Mullens telling us all how when apple season was on they'd all get in the machine (car) & rid out in the country (Kentucky) till they'd come upon people stirring big kettles lined with silver dollars to keep the apple butter from burning so easily. The smell was so pervasive you'd catch coming down the before you saw them cooking. Of course they'd have little pieces of bread cut with a sample dollop of apple butter to try & stacks of already processed apple butter for purchase. Thank you so much for reviving this lovely memory of my Grandmother telling her story. Bless you & your family. RMH/Ohio
When I was young, I spent a summer in a small West Virginia town that had a Community Apple Butter event just like you described. The entire town smelled fantastic. I love apple butter, especially on biscuits. I think this comment enters me in the Simpot contest. Yay! Thank you, Becky for the recipe and your great videos! God Bless you and your family.
Two years down the road I am sure the Simpot is long gone but just wanted to say you are sweetest most pleasant home cook I have seen in a long time. :)
Simpot Apple Butter !! Thank you for all of the time and effort you put forth to bring us all of the wonderful recipes and videos. I am a country girl that was raised up on the kind of food and types of cooking that you show the world. It is the type of cooking I also raised my family on. I am widowed and my children long married and gone so it is just me now and I rarely "cook" any more due to a bad physical health condition. Frozen meals, cans and the microwave is what I get my with now. Watching your videos is a wonderful sentimental reminder of "the good ole days" for me when the kitchen was my favorite room in the house and I read cook books like some read romance novels. May continue to God Bless You and your family.
I remember my aunt making this every year.I think she cooked it in the oven for many hours. There isn’t a Fall season that goes by ,without picking some apple butter up.Maybe I will try making some this year myself.
I wanted to respond for your giveaway. I watched and loved your video on making Apple butter. It reminded me of years ago, I'm 76 years old, when my grategrandmother stirred her big black pot of Apple butter. All my aunts, grandmother, mamma, and neighbors joined in the fun. Those were the good old days. God bless you for taking me back In time. Norma Jean Huber.
It's been over 20yr since I've had apple butter, I've never bought in stores. We had several churches in my home town where they this time of year made apple butter in a huge cast iron coldren over a wood fire. Its the only way I've had it and have amazing fond memories!! Thank you for all you do and the memories ❤
We just made apple butter for the second year in a row since our Mother passed away, we use a variety of apples, Cortland, Winesap, Jonathan, and JonaGold. I even like to add a few Honey Crisp as well. We wash, core, and cook the apples on top of the stove then run them through a colander then cook them in crockpots on high for 8-10 hours. Only in the last hour do we add cinnamon oil and sugar. Makes some tasty apple butter for sure. 😋
Thanks for sharing your delicious recipe! We have a Winesap apple tree too and I made many delicious apple pies and apple chips from it! I wanted to share a natural fly repellent for your apple tree! it’s very simple and it really works! you’ll need: 2 cups cider vinegar 1 - 2 banana peels 2 cups sugar 3 - 5 cups warm water In an empty gallon milk jug add the two banana peels, the cider vinegar, the sugar and the water! put the lid on shake back-and-forth until well mixed! Hang the jug in the apple tree with the Lid Off!! Flies get in the jug. Eggs aren’t laid on the apples! So nice to raise apples with no worms in them!!
Simpot Apple Butter Becky thanks for the reply. Our oldest son loves Apple Butter and so does my husband. We love peach preserves and pear preserves plus several others.
There's nothing like homemade apple butter. The churches in our community made it and I was blessed with the experience at my Grandma's house where they too had a big orchard in their backyard. She had the big black pots and made the best applebutter. We all got some to can and eat over the winter. My Grandma was a food master chef. She was born in 1888 so she had to preserve everything. I have made applebutter many times in my crockpot. It is delicious. I love your videos and the details you give for your recipes and methods of cooking. You cook like my family through the years. I have passed my cooking skills down to my children, even my son loves to cook and preserve food. Happy cooking!
Oh my goodness Becky!!! I know this video is 2 years old now and you may not even see this comment but my mom's birthday was September 5th also! I couldn't even believe it when you said it just now on this video! God bless you sister! I just love watching you no matter what you're cooking even if I don't like it I just love the soothing sound of your voice and I love how thorough and detailed you teach us how to cook! Simpot apple butter sounds like something I have to try making! My kids are grown now but they love old recipes. I have to get started now. Thanks for this video!
Thank you. I never thought about using my slow cooker or anything else. My mom and I would pick apples from the trees around our house every year and make about 20 pints or more of really good apple butter.
Oh, for the good old days, where the families gathered and made a lighter load. I miss those traditions. The women talking and sharing, the kids playing and the men helping. At the end of the day, great bar-b-que and side dishes. A thoroughly wonderful day. And I miss Sundays after church and no stores being open. We really knew how to relax and rejuvenate for the week.
It's 5:30 a.m., and I just made three pounds of apple butter in my Instant Pot. I've been baking bread every day for the past week as I am in Illinois with a stay-in-place order. I just found your recipe, and I had a three-pound bag of apples. It will go well with my fresh bread. Thank you for the recipe.
Simply Apple butter-I love old fashioned Apple butter!!! Growing up my mom made it. We had an Apple tree in the yard.lol I used to rake up the fallen apples that were not keepers Got stung quite a few times on my feet by yellow jackets Awww !! this really brought back great memories! Thank you and God Bless your precious heart ❤️
Love this video about apple-butter! I've read of a pie recipe that is described as " pumpkin apple-butter with a gingersnap cookie crust" that I'm eager to try!
My Apple sauce was a huge hit, thank you so much for your teaching and sharing your recipes. I have an instant pot and it comes with all those Things, also the yogurt setting. God bless you! God is good!
Just found your channel and I'm so glad I did! I absolutely love apple butter and it's nice to see one made the right way. You only forgot one thing, how good the house smells when apple butter is being made! Ha ha
Thanks for this video, we purchased my wife's grandmother's home a few years ago and have 7 apple trees. We've been eating the apples but not doing anything else with them. My wife loves apple butter so I'm hoping to make some using these videos as a guide. We have one tree that's not quite ready to pick yet the others have already dropped.
@@donnamays24 yes my mother made stewed tomatoes also along with the apple butter. She also made something else with "apple rings" that she put a little clove and cinnamon in, something that turned them red. I wasn't real crazy about them. But anyway my point is that there are lots of things you can do to preserve apples, like applesauce!
We made this apple butter with the crock pot overnight and my husband said it was perfect on spices, etc. I'm making another batch, but don't have home grown apples, we're using fuji this time so cross your fingers!
Great video, thanks. My mom did a lot of canning but she never made apple butter because we never had an apple tree. She would only can or freeze what we grew or was given from someone else's garden. Have been enjoying your videos for a couple of months and have a lot of catching up to do. Thanks again.
Simpot apple butter- brings tears to my eyes remembering my grandmother stirring and stirring as I looked up at her. I love your channel and I watch over and over again to learn. Keep them coming. I appreciate your instructions to make for my family.
Simpot apple butter, love apple butter my granny use to make it all the time. I would love to try the simpot, it would be great cause I could use it sitting at my table and be the right height for my Hoover chair. Now back to watch the rest of the video, look forward to all your videos.
Wonderful info on this instant Pot! Your video on making good old fashion APPLE BUTTER really takes me back to the “Good OLd Days” sitting in the middle of the kitchen floor, pressing cooked apples through a sieve, so mama could cook down the pulp for APPLE BUTTER!! OH, the Smell of that wonderful treat that would be added to our winter pantry soon!!! I could hardly wait! I am very impressed with this Simpot Cooker !! What a great time saver and definitely safer than cooking open-kettle !! What a mess and getting burned from the Sauce bubbles bursting and splattering all over the place! I would definitely enjoy using such a delightful cooking pot ! Thank-you for this video!....I watch you all the time and use your recipes. You are a delight and Blessing to me!
I'm gonna give this a try. I hope this turns out like the Ladies from the Salem Church in West Virginia. I was gonna go to the Apple Butter Festival this year, but unforeseen events have changed my plans. Excited to give this a try.
Just started my pot up! My apartment already smells like apple butter and I am so excited! My grandma used to make this, and I’d forgotten about it cause it’s been so long. I’m so glad I came across your video. I’m excited to give her some. She has been down in bed for around six months and I’m hoping a jar or two will give her a little bit of cheerfulness back. Thank you so so much for this recipe!

Simpot apple butter sounds delicious. Never cared for apple butter till I went to this one church in my hometown. They had just made it. I never tasted anything so delicious as that apple butter that day. Now the only apple butter I will eat is homemade. So I am going to try your recipe. God Bless.
I’m going to give this a try. I’ll do it in my slow cooker because I don’t have any of those fancy pots yet. I can already taste the apple goodness. Thank you friend for ALL your cooking videos🇺🇸🙋♀️🦋💜
I live in Alabama, As a child I can remember my grandmother, Aunts and older cousins cooking apple butter. Hi Becky I hope this finds you beginning to heal and feel some better. Your 1st devotional as I already told you was so inspirational and positive. I don't think you truly realized what a blessing and inspiration you are to millions of people all over the world. I thought I'd seen all your recipes, but as I was searching you tube for recipes for apple butter, your's was the first one that popped up. I believe it was God who intervined again and sent me back to you. Your recipe sounds like the one my Mom made which we grew up on. I do remember it cooking all day the times she made it. Thank you again for our old historic and great recipes. I'm going to get me that pot. I don't care for
your recipe for apple butter brings back many memories. for even a novice like me I've been trying all your recipes and they are great even my wife and her German taste bud's enjoys what I have made with most of the recipes. hope you keep them coming and thank you
I just love watching your tutorials. You have slowly taught me to cook a good Southern meal that my husband loves. You sound like Dolly Parton to me (I'm from Tennessee).
Yep! I remember my mom's 4 sisters and grandma (their mother) would come over to help make the apple butter. You're exactly right, we'd have good fire built up, and they'd put the apples, water, spices, and all in a big copper kettle. It was an all-day event, but after it was all said and done, they each took part of it home! They'd peel bushels of apples, and talk about family history, and stories. It was so much fun to be there to help! I think we used Macintosh, Jonathan, and golden delicious apples. I haven't found any apple butter as good as what they used to make! Thanks for sharing.
Simpot Apple Butter, would love to have one, so happy I found your channel, Just love you, thanks for all your uplifting advice on forgiveness, it's hard sometimes.

Thank you so much! Can't wait to try this recipe!! My grandma , made the best apple butter i've ever had! I'm sure she slow cooked it over the stove which i may try to do. I've tried to make it several times but never as good as grandma's! Going to try it again with your recipe!! You inspire me so much !!
Yum!!! We used to have so many apple orchards nearby but they're all gone now. We'd buy the drops for two dollars a bag and then spend the next 2 days putting up apple butter, pie filling, dried apples, and apple cider. I don't know if it's a regional term or just my family who called the apples that had fallen on the ground when they ripened "drops." Those apples were more likely to be bruised and have some rotten spots so they were sold cheaply for canning etc. Thanks
Simpot is so great. I am really wanting to try making apple butter. I haven't had it in years and years. The Simpot is so versatile and safe to use. Please enter me in the giveaway.

I keep trying to remember how my grandmother made hers and I just have not perfected the flavor or texture yet. Thank you so much for sharing😊
Simpot Apple Butter, my Grandmother used to make this and it was an all day affair. Just like you described people getting together at the Church, or someone's home they all helped and had a great time. Thank you for the recipe I hope to make this very soon. Enjoyed listening to you.

The Simpot cooker looked very useful for cooking Apple Butter and other food's. My Family on my Dad's side would cook Apple Butter over a fire in a Big Black kettle.

I live in Alabama, As a child I can remember my grandmother, Aunts and older cousins cooking apple butter.

Simpot apple butter!! My family loves apple butter and sourgum molassas. Thanks for recipe!!!!!!! God bless you!
Oh now the weather is turning time to dig into that apple butter. Fascinated by this simpot method.

Thanks

Maybe I can find some apple butter and try it.
I wouldn't mind a drawing that sent me a sample! Maybe I would then make some with this product or in another way. I never fail to learn something from you each time I visit. It doesn't matter what. Could be turkey gravy or 2nd amendment or poison ivy and snakes at the campsite so you just keep being you.
You do Inspire me in so many ways. In the kitchen and In my life. I'm watching and learning and thinking..... Keep it up.

The Simpot cooker looked very useful for cooking Apple Butter and other food's. My Family on my Dad's side would cook Apple Butter over a fire in a Big Black kettle. My 2nd grade class went on a field trip. Across the highway from the school and I was the only kid who had a seat on my Great Uncle Gus's lap thank you for the family memory
Simpot apple butter looks fantastic. I have not cooked my apples that long and wondered why I didn't get the old fashion taste. Thanks for the video.
