I LOVE watching all you post... I feel like I'm reaching into the past & learning old ways... I take notes & make your meals for my fam... They LOVE my new ways of fixing their meals... I think about you often & especially since the loss of your dear husband... I know you have to be lost without him but focus on the reunion when you go to him... God has a lot of work for you yet to do teach all of us & especially with your children & their little ones... I'm trying to learn all I can because I fear we might be seeing a real change in our country & these skill might be VERY necessary... Thank you for all you do & especially for peaching the words... Praying for you often...

I just made & canned my first plum jelly & plum syrup. I was so excited as I heard each jar “pop”! I did 25 - 8oz jelly and 10 - 8oz syrup. After watching your video, I am now going to try apple butter! Thanks for inspiring me! By the way...I always put God first and I always appreciate you mentioning that in your videos. God is good...all the time!

I have to tell you a story about growing up canning. During the summer, we'd go out to the fields and glean what the machines missed. We'd earn so much a pound that we picked up and got a REALLY good price on produce that wasn't perfect or machine damaged. We'd fill one of the old station wagons from the back door to the back of the driver's seat. When we got home, the factory began. My brothers washed the jars in the bathtub (HOT water, gloves and so on), then brought them in for inspection and water bath. My sister and I processed whatever it was we were canning and my Mom ran the stove. We'd rotate jobs- By the end of the weekend, we'd have over a hundred jars filled with food for the winter. Saved us a BUNDLE. It was also the time my Mom would call us together and say what fast food place she was going to and what did we want. Breaking down the kitchen for cooking then setting up again wasted time. While she was gone, we kept working. During the winter, we had plenty to eat. THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU for bringing back wonderful memories. Through the years, I"ve made jelly to give out as Christmas gifts.

This is AWESOME. I’ve always used my crockpot Apple Butter recipe, but never canned it, as l gave them as gifts. And it’s always emptied by my friends & family within two weeks (it gets put into their fridge). But now l want to “put some back” & make it shelf stable. Ty!

My Granny used a towel on the bottom during the Depression! Her canning pot had a hole in it sna she did it over a wood burning stove to boot. She was canning applesauce. TFS

BALL puts out a canning book every year. They are the people who make canning jars. Great instructions, with pictures. I have a glass top stove, and I didn't know that I'm not supposed to use the granite ware pots. Oops! No problems so far, thank heavens. Love your videos. Thanks!❤

She is talking about pots like the Copper bottom pots which has a thin protruding rim on the bottom. Flat bottoms are okay.

    • @RunninUpThatHillh
      @RunninUpThatHillh 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I have a granite one too..its not completely flat on the bottom, so I can't use it. Hot air gets trapped between the space where the pot isn't flat..and the glass stovetop. I use a new presto canner and it's fine, just had to check on weight limit, but mine is a little sixteen quart. I just got a hot plate, I'm just gonna use that from now on. I hate bothering to worry.

Now I know what happened to my electric stove. I had my two biggest burners go out. I did a canning bath for my bread and butter pickles. Wow, would have never made that connection in a million years. Glad to know that now so I won't make that mistake again. Thank you so much.

I am super excited and very blessed to have found your channel, you remind me of how my grandmother used to cook and teach and talk about God, I find it very comforting to hear and brings me to tears a lot, as I do miss her very much. also I am very new to canning and would like to start soon, I was thinking that I needed to buy special pots that cost a lot. I have an instant pot and huge stock pots, just need everything else to begin my new adventure in canning foods and such for my family... cause I don't know how much time before they say I cant shop anymore in these dyer times. and I would like to know I have done what I can for my family to survive. Thank You for sharing your kitchen wisdom and the Good Word. and my deepest condolences to you and your beautiful family and may our Heavenly Father bless you always. Also, did I mention I love your videos! Thank you!

I grew up canning at the age of 6. NO video can cover everything. You've given the BEST advice- that of finding an experienced person to learn from. I warn prospective students that I'm a hard teacher and everything has to be perfect before going into the jar or it's worthless- spoiled food will kill you. Many students walk out- I warned them. BE CAREFUL.

I so much appreciate this. Watched the apple butter video first. The fact that it is a 100 year old receipe... Am thinking that it will be like my grandmother's. She made the best. Also saw where you have a peach butter recipe...it is peach time, I found jars...am so excited. Yes. Water bath canning is where I am starting. So far have made grape jelly, and diced tomatoes. Thank you for your teachings. Love and hugs. You are awesome. Plus I love that you put God first. I believe He directed me to you. God bless.

I have been canning for years, both water bath canning & pressure canning & I have been doing it on my glass topped stove with no issues. I have heard someone say that you are not supposed to but, if I didn’t then I would not be able to can the amount of stuff that I do because I wouldn’t have any other way to do it. Glad has blessed me with the ability to do it & to teach other that want to know how to do it to do it & He has blessed me with nothing happening to my stove.

Hello. Just made the Apple butter. I put in jars to store as I have a glass top stove and went to start this adventure and learned that was not the thing to do. I only made 2. 1/2 quarts as I used the apples that I had. Split it between 2 so I could take some to my daughter tomorrow. Put them in the refrigerator to eat now. Taste great!! I will do this again when I am better prepared and can them.. Thank you so much. Many blessings and condolences to you and your family💖

They do make pressure canners that also double for water bath canners that are made for glass or smooth top stoves.....but I found you definitely want one that has at least 3100 wattage on the large burners for the best results! Not trying to be controversal at all...just letting you know ....I had a stove just like yours and only canned on it twice with the new canner before I upgraded to one that had the higher wattage elements.....because it is so slow of a process if you don't have the higher wattage! Now also you can only ever only do 7 quarts in the pressure cooker/water bath canner made for the smooth top electric stoves! Love your videos!

I also have a glass top stove & found a water bath canner that is safe for it.
I did a lot of searching & found that it has to have a flat bottom so that it doesn't scratch the stove & will have even heating.
It is from BACK TO BASICS & you can still get them. I think mine is about 10 years old now. I wanted to make homemade apple, cherry & peach pie filling but didn't want to mess up my stove top.
I also have a old apple butter recipe but you don't have to process the jars. You put them upside down on towels & leave them alone until the next day. I never had a jar that didn't seal. The last time I made it I made the mistake of buying 2 bushels of apples & had 2 big crock pots going around the clock for several days......made it to give for Christmas that year,

I've been water bath canning and pressure canning on my glass top stove for many years. No problems whatsoever. I use my cast iron on it too. Just be careful not to slam the pots down on it or drag them across the surface.
