  • Is ThieAudio's Hype 4 even hyper than the Hype 2? Mathematically, it checks out, but what's different between these two IEMs, and does the Hype 4 deliver on its name vs. other $400 IEMs? There's only one way to find out: Weeks of listening experience condensed into this review. Enjoy.

    Thank you! I enjoy these reviews the most out of all >10 channels I'm subscribed to. And even though sometimes it's a bit hard for me to go through with a 10 minute video in one sitting, here ~20 minutes go by like it's nothing. Your videos have a really nice flow to them and feel... comfy? Somehow it never gets even a slightly bit tedious or boring, like it sometimes happens for me with, for example, HBB (who's my second favorite audio reviewer/blogger on YT ).
    It's magic. I could only wish it was possible to make a bit more comparisons, like you used to.

    Ive always had the impression that Thieaudio IEMs sound large and powerful. Bowing strings such as double bass and cello open up vastly. Sounds large and extravagantly grand in stage. With the downside being the IEMs missing the utmost detail retrieval and resolve that I enjoy in both Etys and Blessings. But the Blessings and Etys often miss that grand and extravagantly large expansion of sound in that region. The Blessing 3 handles EQ like a champion. So versatile if you want to add that same presence to your music or at least go in that direction without muddying the mix. Awesome review!

    Thanks so much for the review! Specially for talking about comfort (that is as important to me as sound). Do you think that compared to Hype2, the Hype4 is more open, spacious? Very different sound vs. the Meteor -- Meteor is a dense, warm bassy sound, while the Hype 4 is a somewhat thin, wide bassy side. If you're looking for instrument separation, Hype has a clear advantage. If you're looking for a more relaxed, enveloping listen, the Meteor is the way.

    intetesting your comment about Hype2 bass being soft. I actually found the sub-bass overdone, and the midbass underdone. So I simply EQ the 32 and 64 down 1.4db, and increase 250Hz by 2db. B/c of the 250Hz uplift, I increase 2k by 2db to balance everything.

    • @jsswish
      @jsswish หลายเดือนก่อน

      I had the performer 8 and now the hype 4. The performer 8 has is a bit more revealing with details, much lighter on the bass, slightly more relaxed in the upper mids, but a touch more zingy in the treble. The Hype 4 had an almost subwoofer like bass, fuller mid bass and lower mids, slightly more forward upper mids. Performer 8 is fairly flat, hype 4 is I guess a mild v shaped signature. I much prefer the Hype 4, for me it's more exciting and engaging. I enjoyed the performer 8 but always missed some bass. Fit wise they are very close, both very comfortable, stable and isolate very nicely.

      @@larrydunn4626 In my opinion, I like the upper bass/lower mids recessed slightly as they are in the Blessing 3 vs Dusk for clarity and resolve sake. The sub bass is about 5db less than dusk and I think raising it to Dusk levels helps fill out the sound without muddying things up. The double Ds on the B3 are fantastic, tactile, crisp, and and thumping. They add a huge amount of body to music on their own. I can see how some tracks may benefit from the Dusks lift such as bowed double bass and cello types of sounds but that is also easily EQable! My preferences are the utmost detail retrieval and I find taking advantage of the excellent dynamic drivers in the very low end is the best of both worlds. It gives the already extremely crisp and tactile low end some 'live show like' presence😊

    Could you please use precise musical reference to tracks and details within those/time stamps when reviewing these rather than broad references. I've listened to this video 5 times and that's what's missing.
    That would really help. But I know you have lots of gear to review.

    re the bass of the Hype 4... is it possible that the same drivers in the Hype2 sound different b/c the extra two BAs in the Hype 4 shell change the acoustic properties of the bass driver/shell?

    • @SuperReview
      @SuperReview  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      (1) I'm not sure that they are the same dynamic drivers, just to clarify, and (2) it's absolutely possible the higher frequencies contribute to the definition of the bass attack. I have frequently correlated lower treble bass transients, but just anecdotally. It's also possible that it's just the little bit of extra midbass present in the Hype 4 tuning.

    I like the Studio4 for being able to grab basslines and let you follow most of the notes while staying away from the mids-- but the highs are too smooth or "safe" for me, and i think the bass would probably sound more "complete" if it was a DD. Looking at the Hype4 graph, and what I've learned from The Honest Audiophile's review of them, I think the hype 4 has that "bite" and attack I'm looking for in the treble. I mostly listen to 70s/80s/90s popular music with a lean towards the rock or metal scene, though I can never say no to the female pop singers of that time (Like Laura Branigan or Pat Benatar). Anyways, as much variety as there is within that huge time frame, treble has always had a certain aggressiveness to it that the Studio4 shys away from, making things (think guitar "crunch" and cymbals clashing) sound more dull and/or less detailed. The mids were great on the Studio4, but that's about the only area that consistently performs well to my ears over the few months I've owned that set. I'm hesitant to give the Hype4 a chance even though I know Thieaudio can strike gold with iems like the Legacy 2. Not sure the same "Rawness" is present here, but I don't even care too much about technicalities if the Hype4 simply outdoes the Studio4 on pure sound alone, but I do still appreciate the kind of imaging and instrument separation that lets you point at a sound and follow it to its completion, which the Studio4 *sort of* does well. You could probably tell by now I'm not a basshead, but as a bassist it's more than commendable when an iem just lets the music speak for itself from bass to treble. No smoothing, no over-sharpening, just the music. That's the end of my rambling 😅

      Studio4 with DD bass and a touch extra treble = Blessing 3
      Hype4 is significantly bassier and I wouldn't describe the treble as more present than Studio4.

The idea of owning a set that can trade blows or stand tall with kilobuck sets for less than 500 dollars has a certain appeal to it.
