Brilliant Matt . . . . I'm in the learning curve to painting my Tundra and the wifey's Pilot. Thank You for sharing this info with us. Automotive paint is liquid gold and any area of saving is really important. This is why I'm going with the Fuji Turbine system vs compressor supplied air. The Turbine system uses an astounding 35% plus less product that otherwise is just waste thrown into the atmosphere. Thumbs up
Great video, thanks for pointing out the removal of the ring, I just bought the stuff to convert my Fuji and I thought that didn't look right, your video came up in my search and clarified it. Also, I thought it would be good to mention that a key benefit of this system that I bought it for is the ability to spray in any direction (with the pressure cup of course.) When getting into the crevices and so forth on furniture / cabinets etc... it's a game changer, I used to switch between guns and have even more cleanup before going to PPS 1.0

I just received all the components for the 3M PPS 2.0 system to use on my Titan CapSpray 115 and spent 5-10 minutes tinkering with the h/o cup to get the disposable filter lid to work with the hard cup ring. I got it figured out and then found your video that confirmed my assembly was correct.

You absolutely nailed it with your video! You answered all my questions from adapters to cups to how the system functions with the Fuji T-75G, and sealed my decision to go with the gravity feed gun. Hey Tony, Thank you. You will like the system and the PPS add on as well. It's really a worthwhile addition. I've found it very easy to switch materials as well. Just remove the cup and put a plug in it and set it on the table. Give the gun a quick clean with water and start again. Feel free to reach out if you need anything else.
Awesome video. I just got my 3M PPS 2.0 system today for my Fuji system. I was confused by the H/O cup and liner lids too. Figured I likely was not the first and found your video that confirmed my assumption that the black gasket on the liner lid had to be removed. Thanks!

Hi - my question is if you use the original set up as you'd assembled it initially (to spray thin acrylic for example), what's happening with all the air that is shooting out of the now redundant hose and filter? Don't you need that? Great video and thanks.

I as well am waiting for my PPS to come in for for my mini mite 5 (T75g) does this sound right for the cost of the PPS? Hard cup Adaptor Lids and liners Total $250 That sound right to you? These guys told me when I want to buy more liners&lids it would be $183🤔😳😂

I have a couple link in the description to Amazon listings that are a bit cheaper. Initially I went to my local carj finish supplier and they had a price that was really high. @@SimpleWoodShop Two H/O 13.5 cups, 6 liner kit, and the gun adapter was like 225. The liners are way cheaper than that... someone is trying to hose you. I used the links Matt provided. Just make sure you turn the compressor off and flip the gun upside down and pull the trigger to release the pressure... found out the hard way.

Ok but what if we use a gravity fed and pps system what do we do with that air hose? Do we need to plug it or is air just going to run out of the hole?
I started heating up my thicker yogurt viscosity materials and then tried it with nice thick tung oil based varnishes keeping the flash point low and do not need to thin it at all, but I thin it just a little and get excellent finishes! I've never needed this PPS system, but im gonna get one to have and see if it helps anything... thanks for sharing.
@@SimpleWoodShop Of course, it can stay warm enough to around 1 to 2+ mins out. For me it's one thing, but I would suggest getting some time in, experience wise as you will get the feel for what is needed or how hot you can get it without any issues. If it's too hot it can flash on the proceeding passes. It's a short learning curve too..' You got this!
Hey Matt. Just purchased the fuji system and have not sprayed anything with it. Gonna use it primarily for poly or thinner products. Do I need the pressure cup for thin products? How well does it spray without the HO cup(do I need to keep gun upright. Is there lower volume of product without it)?
You can spray everything you want with the gun that comes with they system. The PPS setup makes it easier in the clean up with the disposable bags. You’ll need the h/o cup for it. It is the only way the air is attached to push the material down. Otherwise it’s just gravity and won’t work well.
Great video. I use the PPS 1 H/O system which is very similar but with the advantage of being able to use generic cups and liners, saves a few pennies and I can always nip to Harbor Freight if I run out.
@@SimpleWoodShop I suspect a large part of 3M's motivation for the 2.0 system was to control the consumables, the adapters and cup moldings look significantly harder to machine and are probably patent protected.

Just recently bought that 3m system for the graco edge 2 gun. Beautiful. We shoot a lot of WB 2k paint systems and this has made it so much easier to work with. Great video 👏

Just switched from a Devilbliss (using 3M PPS 2.0) to a Fuji Q5 with T70 (bottom feed) and want to covert to use the 3M 2.0 system that I have quite a bit of stock and want to continue to use for cost/convenience. Great video!
Great information on the Fuji system- informative and timely! I'm about to order the Q5 and your tips will be very useful as I enter the world of sprayers. I've pretty much applied all finishes by hand until now!

Great vid and info. This is okay for the T70 range, but not for a G-Xpc (side mount cup) that i ordered with my Q5. There is no 2.0 PPS adapter for the G-Xpc. The only one manufactured is for the 1.0 PPS system and is Adapter 24 (161100). Then there's the cup size which has to be an 8 oz 170ml otherwise it won't fit. The adaptor is not available in the UK, even 3M over here were useless and couldn't help. I've started to import them from the states to help guys out, but info like this is invaluable to guys buying systems like the Q5 who just think they can buy any cup liners and lids and expect them all to marry up without any problems.
@@SimpleWoodShop Bit deceiving that picture Matt, as my order arrived from Phelps and isn't the one as advertised in their picture It's turns out (After speaking to a local paint supplier) that 3M very craftily went round a lot of their users and trade suppliers in the industry and took away all the 1.0 adapter stuff and replaced with 2.0 rendering all the excess cups useless and forcing people to upgrade thus making 3M more money in the process. This means i now have to buy a load of new liners to go with this 2.0. Not happy really!!

As soon as I received all the adaptors, I got on to Phelps and told him about his picture not being what he sent. he never replied which is not very professional, especially after me speaking to him on the phone before purchasing. I'm still having trouble now buying the cup, even my suppliers of paints I do a lot of business with spent an hour with me trying to figure out what goes with what. I think the 2.0 pressurised cup is only available in the states, and to add insult to injustice the 2.0 cup now is a fat little thing not the little dinky one for the 1.0 so I'm no better off. I should have ordered everything from Phelps and if everything didn't marry up, that would tell me that he's just sending out stuff without checking things! if you have any further info on things, please let me know. if I could track down a 1.0 adapter type 24, I'd buy that also, but just concerned I might get another 2.0 adapter. Fantastic! So little info out there - this was perfect. One question - I've heard there is less to clean on the gun with the 3M system. Do you have a video on cleaning the gun after a spray session with 3M PPS?
One question, if the solution is in the hard plastic cup and inside the second disposable cup how does the air pressure from the unit push through the disposable cup? The disposable cup must be sealed to keep the outer cup clean to use the next stage with no mess.
You drop the liner in the hard cup, then pour your solution into the liner. Once you put in the hard cap ring and close it up it’s sealed. The air hose attaches to the hard bit and pushes the solution
Thanks for this useful tutorial. I got the PPS system and, after watching this, realized I was doing one thing wrong. I was pouring the paint into the cup after putting on the dome. The paint has to be filtered, right? Wrong! The filter (in the PPS system) works when the paint is on its way out, not on the way in. Duh!

Hi, the Fuji system is designed around the pressure cup and hose. Would you think this could get one into trouble if the pot is not pressured - especially when tipping the gun or when the paint is low?

Hey. I am not sure. I believe you can get the original adapter for that gun and you should be good to go. It would be the same adapter mode as version 2 but the model number will start with a 1.
Hey Harley, What I will do is carefully pull the bag out of the cup, squeeze the solution up to the liner to get all the air out then plug it. This will usually give it a good seal. You just have to be careful not to tip the bag. If you wanted to store it is something more rigid you can buy the plastic cups that are used without the H\o system. Thanks. I'm just diving into HVLP spraying as a home hobbyist and have found value in some of you videos as the Fuji products drew me to your site. I think I will try the 3M PPS 2 (was going to try the original series, still on market). I'm trying to spray linseed oil paint, which is quite thick (will have to thin, unfortunately negating some of the zero VOC appeal of this medium). It's expensive stuff and I don't want to waste much of it. I actually went with a Sprayfiine A301 3 stage. The Fuji Mini-Mite 3 looks great, but is quite a bit more than the Sprayfine with a lot of similarities (except the Sprayfine comes with a bleed gun).
Thanks for watching, I appreciate it. I would go with the 2.0 PPS system, there is an investment up front with the H\O cups and adapter, and if you did the 1.0 system you'd be slowly phased out. With the thicker material you will need the h\o cups for that added back pressure. Match your aircap to your material as well.

I already have a pps system as I've sprayed with Iwatta and Sata for years. I just ordered the Fuji Mini Mite 5 for remote ability, and a 1.8 cap to also have the ability spray latex/thick sealers if I so desire. My question is, is the 65 dollar h/o 2.0 cup a huge improvement/requirement over the standard non h/o with this setup? I love 3m but 65 bucks for a plastic bowl is ridiculous.
Hey, Yes you will need it for the latex especially. Without the h\o cup you rely on gravity to feed the paint, it dosen't work that well. The Fuji is designed to have that back pressure so you'll need it.
Great video, answered so many questions I had about adding PPS 2.0 to my Fuji. I would assume the answer is “no”, but does the H/O cup help “push” thicker paints like latex? I know the standard T75 gravity cup is pressurized, but was hoping that maybe having the pressure on the top and sides of the liner might help push thicker paints. So far, I’ve had to thin most latex paints 15% and use a 1.8 or 2.0mm tip to get good results with the T75.
The H\p cup does help push the paint better. I have the Fuji Q5 and I can push latex pretty good. I do thin it about 10% just to help it but it works well. 18 or 2.0 tips of course.
2.0 All day, the top is a 1/4 turn instead of a screw on cap. The 2.0 has the larger dome so more materials is available after its filtered and the 1.0 is being phased out eventually.
Matt, although I agree with the time saving aspect of using 3M's PPS system is a huge reason why professionals add it to their Fuji Spray guns, from my experience the ability to spray at any attitude or angle is the main reason why non-pros should consider using it. In fact, that's also a serious advantage that all users will enjoy. And for the record, I use PPS on all my many spray guns, whether they're turbine or compressed air based. I also would suggest that there's never any reason for non-PPS users to throw out leftover finish after their spraying session is over. Like myself, they can simply empty the leftover back into the tin. And, for non-pros, or any finisher for that matter who doesn't mind taking a few extra minutes to reuse the disposable liners as well as the caps and plugs, they can save some money. I've found that I can usually get 5 uses out of each. Hey, what can I say, I'm a bit of a cheap skate! Take care and thanks for your video.
thanks for this video, new subscriber because of this. I was confused on which parts to get for my fuji gravity gun like yours. I am moving to the PPS mainly because I want to be able to spray in any direction and the PPS lets me spray the inside of cabinets easier as I can now spray upside down. I like the fuji system but it still takes me a lot of fiddling around with viscosity to get the right flow. You did a great video here on the parts and another on the cleaning, but could you do a video on actually spraying different finishes, like a thick latex down to a thin lacquer and which tips you use for which? :) I am hoping this HO PPS helps push thicker finishes without thinning them down so much like I have to with the stock gun. If you do a finishing video, then you would have a full series! Also, very helpful as I couldn't figure out how the black ring fit in the assembly, this totally cleared it up as both fuji and 3M failed to explain it like you did!

Hey Kent, I have not been able to use the bottom cup system. I figured I'd let gravity pull the material down rather than use pressure to push the material up. That's about the extent of the research I did on which cup to use. Also fewer parts to wash in the gravity system.
Stupid question! Had one Fuji Q5 Platinum for just a week. Used it just for a painting job, painting some trim and shudders. Never made it work the right way even if I had the 3M PPS system. First of all, but the time I figure it out it might need a bigger air cap, the blue hose melted by the machine end. That was my fault. Had the unit right on the top of the stairs and the blue hose was too hot and not running flat on the floor and created a kink and overheated. Now my question is do you really think this is worth it? Like I said had it for a short time and was new to spraying. I sometimes do kitchen cabinets or trim to spray. At this point I am using a Titan 440 Impact and doing all this with it. Works great but I really hate the cleaning proccess and the waste of material. Thinking to get another one but still not sure what to do. I could just buy a stronger airless for all the ceiling and wall spraying ( Graco 695 Pro) and keep the Titan for insl-x cabinet coat and once in a while for polyurethane trim/ doors spraying. For these I could easily just buy a cheaper hvlp gun and run it throught a bigger compressor. Any thoughts on the Graco 9.5 hvlp system? Thanks a lot. Really nice channel btw.
Hey, Sounds like have a lot of different needs for spraying. The fuji can work for large areas like ceilings but its not ideal due to the low volume of materials it can store. You are probably going to have to use several different sprayers. Overall I have been very happy with my sprayer and find no issues with it. From what you wrote it sounds like there was a learning curve in the beginning. I had that too. I don't have any experience with any other sprayers.
@@SimpleWoodShop I will keep my airless for walls, ceilings and interior trim/windows for large areas. My main question was about the Fuji Q5 if worth getting one again for cabinets, polyurethane or small projects. Not sure how good it is even if I had one but mess it up
@@georgeturcu5761 I think that once you give it some practice, and use the correct setup you'll be pleased. It made for cabinets and small projects like that. But it also means one more system to mess around with. Might be able to do the cabinet with your airless by just swapping out the tips as well.
@@SimpleWoodShop I use the 310 fflp graco tips for cabinets. 310/312 fflp for trim depends on paint. I have to decide. Fuji Q5 or Graco 9.5 hvlp Comp. comes with pressure pot and built in compressor. Or maybe the Graco 395 Finish Pro. Same ideea but works as an airless too. I know I could just get a pressure pot for the Fuji but I have doubts that without a compressor will spray the same without thinning the paint. You been great. Thx again
@@georgeturcu5761 Got it, The only paint that I was unable to spray with my Q5 was thick metal paint from Rust oleum. It had a hard time and I'll probably thin it next time. House latex was fine with the 1.8 air cap.
Yes, there wont be any back pressure pushing the materials through the gun. So it may sputter, or you can push the disposal able bag as you spray. It will work. Not ideal but it will work. Chances are you'll end up getting the h\o cup to avoid that. That's what happened to me.

Excellent video, and thank you for clarifying the black cap on the H/O cup. Question: You recommend using the H/O cup for thicker latex paint, would you recommend this system for all liquids, instead of the non H/O cup due to the added air pressure assist that allows you work even upside down? I'm just trying to decide which kit to purchase. In other words, is the simple gravity fed cup good enough, or should I get the H/O cup.
Hey, I would go with the h/o for everything. I tried to spray primer with only the gravity feed cup and it was frustrating. The h/o is about $80 and definitely provided that back pressure that is important. When I did the primer I found myself pressing down the liner with my hand to give it that pressure. There are two sizes of the H/O cups available. The smaller cup would be better for spraying upside down, because you typically are in tighter quarters and the cup fits better in those spots. Thanks for the video... so basically the 2.0 becomes a 1.0 if you need to use the H/O tube? Since you have to remove the locking ring, it basically makes it the 1.0 system and cost 2x as much. I was thinking of going to the 2.0 - lots of nice upgrades, Except that - which makes it useless with the Fuji T75G gun with pressure tube.
In my experience with it in order to use it with the T75G (which I use) you have to have the h\o cup for the back pressure. otherwise it is gravity fed and then your spray will not be consistent. It is a good setup, once you buy all the parts.
Pp0 what now that's too much information for my brain to keep all I need to know if I can use this system to spray out of the can let's just say that I buy a gallon of paint and start spraying like crazy and I dont need to worry about no pp0 but that you for your very useful video very informative thank you and I did subscribed to your channel thank you again
Great videos! Looking at upgrading my Fuji for woodworking tasks following your advice. I've only sprayed general water based finishes to date, love them. Was looking at the PPS guns for near zero cleanup, but I don't believe my Makita MAC5200 can push that guns requirements for air. (Any advice too the contrary for furniture finishing would be appreciated. ) in lieu of that direction, I need to add spraying latex paint. In your experience, can I already latex without thinning? What tip size would I want for my Fuji? If I sound uneducated, I am. I am new to spraying and know very little behind the one method I've been using that works. Side thought on cost factors. I currently have a bottom fed Fuji gun, so in addition to adding the PPS system, I would be adding a gravity fed gun as well.
Hi, Thanks for watching. My only experience has been with two Fuji HVLP systems. The q5 can do latex with the 1.8 air cap setup. Most of the time it can do it without thinning but that does help a little bit. The gravity pps 2.0 system is what I use and I am very please with it. I currently have some latex water based in the gun now and I will use it this afternoon. To do all of that you are looking at some $ but I would do it again if I needed to. If you plan to spray more than a quart at a time you may look into the pressure pot system as well.
You have some good information just wish your camera would zoom in to see the details. I have the Fuji 5 with the 3m system. And I'm having trouble just getting the plastic cup that comes with the gun to come off the gun. In the manual it says do not disassemble the cup assembly threads in your cup have been sealed at the factory to prevent leakage under pressure. So how do you use the 3m system? I'm so frustrated. I will call Fuji to get instructions. The videos from Fuji are not that good. They don't let you see any details apparently nobody wants to zoom in to see the small parts. I work in a factory that makes piston pumps. I trouble shoot tear them apart when they don't work and put them back together. Do factory setting use tools all day and I am having a horrible time with this. Can't imagine what most people are experiencing with this.
Hi, Sorry it’s frustrating. Are you trying to take off the factory cup and install the 3M adapter for their PPS cups? If so you will to remove the old cup and install the adapter. It’s just threaded on. Removed the old cup and metal screw part. It’s an easily removed part. Install the right adapter and then the 3M cups will thread into the adapter.
Thanks for watching, The materials with the 3M PPS systems is inside a disposable liner and lid that has a filter in it. When you take both out of the h\0 cup you can put a plug in the top and put it in the cup that comes with each kit. Each kit comes with a hard plastic cup to store the solution in and plugs. Hey, Yes, Car paint is typically on the thinner side and this pushes that stuff nicely. I don't have any experience with car painting or compressor systems. I think it would do a nice job.
Quick question, great video BTW. So if you aren't spraying super thick materials then using the pressure tube isn't really necessary? All I will be spraying is automotive paints and I have a similar system currently with the disposable cups for my DeVilbiss paint gun. I'd love to have the same setup like that for the Fuji. I don't have a Fuji yet, I've been investigating the different systems out there. Seems like the Fuji is really good, the other one is the Apollo. Do you have any insight in to how those compare? thanks again.
Thanks for watching, I appreciate it. As long as you are getting consistent pressure and the spray is not sputtering then you are probably good without the pressure tube. For automotive spraying you might find yourself at odd angles and without the pressure tube pushing the paint it may not work as well. With the h\o pps system there is constant pressure so you can spray at odd angles. Fuji is great stuff, I don't have any experience with the Apollo systems.

Pretty obvious why you throw away the filter, but why throw away the screw on lid when you're done spraying out a project? 3M recommendation or just don't want to clean it?
It depends on the solution. If it’s thinner then you may be ok to not use the H/o cups. With the non H/O cup there is no pressure tube attachment so you rely on gravity to pull the material down. I would say your effectiveness would be severely diminished without the h/o
Thanks for watching. Might be able to get away with a little less thinning. Really depends on what sprayer you are using and the power it has. I use a fuji Q5 and maybe only thin 10%. But it’s been a bit since I’ve sprayed latex.
To be fair all your really throwing away is a filter if you clean out the disposable cup. You still have to clean the gun so sodd all difference imo. And what do you do with the pressure hose ???? The first pot had no option to fit it..
I have the T75G, do i always have to use the pressurized cup? Or can i run without if im spraying standard, urethane, automotive basecoat and using the 1.3 tip?
Hey, I always use the h\o cup. The original cup and system was designed to have that pressure pushing the material through the gun. So even though you are using thinner material it is probably best to use the h\o. But try it both ways and let me know here.

There is an H\O cup for both versions of the PPS. The h\o cup allows you to connect the air pressure to squeeze the bag and push the material through the tip. The Fuji sprayers need that pressure.
it looks like such a great system, but at ~$3 per disposable cup, Im not sure it saves anything over the filter and some wasted material :/ would be cool if you could just buy the liners. Im sure the hard plastic lid and plug could be reused far more times than the flexible liner.
I tend to wash out the liners and reuse them later one. It's pretty easy to do. Most are not $3 a liner they are really cheaper than that. They wash out very easily, another benefit is the whole thing is pretty air tight, so I can leave my sprayer and paint in the liner over night and spray the next day without any issue.
RIght, it's included on the regular cup system (without the pressure chamber) however I find I don't mix many mediums so it's good. WIth the Q5 the only thing I found I had to thin was some metal paint I used for a project. You could always use the liner in the non-pressure cup (the one with measurements) and then transfer the liner to the h\o cup. Without spilling of course.

Brilliant Matt . . . . I'm in the learning curve to painting my Tundra and the wifey's Pilot. Thank You for sharing this info with us. Automotive paint is liquid gold and any area of saving is really important. This is why I'm going with the Fuji Turbine system vs compressor supplied air. The Turbine system uses an astounding 35% plus less product that otherwise is just waste thrown into the atmosphere.

Great video, thanks for pointing out the removal of the ring, I just bought the stuff to convert my Fuji and I thought that didn't look right, your video came up in my search and clarified it. Also, I thought it would be good to mention that a key benefit of this system that I bought it for is the ability to spray in any direction (with the pressure cup of course.) When getting into the crevices and so forth on furniture / cabinets etc... it's a game changer, I used to switch between guns and have even more cleanup before going to PPS 1.0

Hey Tony, Thank you. You will like the system and the PPS add on as well. It's really a worthwhile addition. I've found it very easy to switch materials as well. Just remove the cup and put a plug in it and set it on the table. Give the gun a quick clean with water and start again. Feel free to reach out if you need anything else.

@@SimpleWoodShop Two H/O 13.5 cups, 6 liner kit, and the gun adapter was like 225. The liners are way cheaper than that... someone is trying to hose you. I used the links Matt provided. Just make sure you turn the compressor off and flip the gun upside down and pull the trigger to release the pressure... found out the hard way.

I started heating up my thicker yogurt viscosity materials and then tried it with nice thick tung oil based varnishes keeping the flash point low and do not need to thin it at all, but I thin it just a little and get excellent finishes! I've never needed this PPS system, but im gonna get one to have and see if it helps anything... thanks for sharing.

@@SimpleWoodShop Of course, it can stay warm enough to around 1 to 2+ mins out. For me it's one thing, but I would suggest getting some time in, experience wise as you will get the feel for what is needed or how hot you can get it without any issues. If it's too hot it can flash on the proceeding passes. It's a short learning curve too..' You got this!

Hey Matt. Just purchased the fuji system and have not sprayed anything with it. Gonna use it primarily for poly or thinner products. Do I need the pressure cup for thin products? How well does it spray without the HO cup(do I need to keep gun upright. Is there lower volume of product without it)?
You can spray everything you want with the gun that comes with they system. The PPS setup makes it easier in the clean up with the disposable bags. You’ll need the h/o cup for it. It is the only way the air is attached to push the material down. Otherwise it’s just gravity and won’t work well.
Great video. I use the PPS 1 H/O system which is very similar but with the advantage of being able to use generic cups and liners, saves a few pennies and I can always nip to Harbor Freight if I run out.

@@SimpleWoodShop I suspect a large part of 3M's motivation for the 2.0 system was to control the consumables, the adapters and cup moldings look significantly harder to machine and are probably patent protected.

Great vid and info. This is okay for the T70 range, but not for a G-Xpc (side mount cup) that i ordered with my Q5.
There is no 2.0 PPS adapter for the G-Xpc. The only one manufactured is for the 1.0 PPS system and is Adapter 24 (161100). Then there's the cup size which has to be an 8 oz 170ml otherwise it won't fit. The adaptor is not available in the UK, even 3M over here were useless and couldn't help. I've started to import them from the states to help guys out, but info like this is invaluable to guys buying systems like the Q5 who just think they can buy any cup liners and lids and expect them all to marry up without any problems.

@@SimpleWoodShop Bit deceiving that picture Matt, as my order arrived from Phelps and isn't the one as advertised in their picture It's turns out (After speaking to a local paint supplier) that 3M very craftily went round a lot of their users and trade suppliers in the industry and took away all the 1.0 adapter stuff and replaced with 2.0 rendering all the excess cups useless and forcing people to upgrade thus making 3M more money in the process. This means i now have to buy a load of new liners to go with this 2.0. Not happy really!!

As soon as I received all the adaptors, I got on to Phelps and told him about his picture not being what he sent. he never replied which is not very professional, especially after me speaking to him on the phone before purchasing. I'm still having trouble now buying the cup, even my suppliers of paints I do a lot of business with spent an hour with me trying to figure out what goes with what. I think the 2.0 pressurised cup is only available in the states, and to add insult to injustice the 2.0 cup now is a fat little thing not the little dinky one for the 1.0 so I'm no better off. I should have ordered everything from Phelps and if everything didn't marry up, that would tell me that he's just sending out stuff without checking things!
if you have any further info on things, please let me know. if I could track down a 1.0 adapter type 24, I'd buy that also, but just concerned I might get another 2.0 adapter.

One question, if the solution is in the hard plastic cup and inside the second disposable cup how does the air pressure from the unit push through the disposable cup? The disposable cup must be sealed to keep the outer cup clean to use the next stage with no mess.
You drop the liner in the hard cup, then pour your solution into the liner. Once you put in the hard cap ring and close it up it’s sealed. The air hose attaches to the hard bit and pushes the solution

Thanks for this useful tutorial. I got the PPS system and, after watching this, realized I was doing one thing wrong. I was pouring the paint into the cup after putting on the dome. The paint has to be filtered, right? Wrong! The filter (in the PPS system) works when the paint is on its way out, not on the way in. Duh!

Hi, the Fuji system is designed around the pressure cup and hose. Would you think this could get one into trouble if the pot is not pressured - especially when tipping the gun or when the paint is low?
There by is a pressure cup for the PPS system. It’s called a H/O cup. Just drop the liner in that cup and attach the pressure hose. Works great.

Can not take the cup and store it if you have not used all the solution? I mean I guess you can but have to have multiple expensive HO cups?
Hey Harley, What I will do is carefully pull the bag out of the cup, squeeze the solution up to the liner to get all the air out then plug it. This will usually give it a good seal. You just have to be careful not to tip the bag. If you wanted to store it is something more rigid you can buy the plastic cups that are used without the H\o system. They are cheaper than the hard plastic cups and you just transfer the cup to it. Thanks for watching. I put a link below to those cups.

You will have to mix and then pour it in. The liners don’t have any indicators.

Thanks. I'm just diving into HVLP spraying as a home hobbyist and have found value in some of you videos as the Fuji products drew me to your site. I think I will try the 3M PPS 2 (was going to try the original series, still on market). I'm trying to spray linseed oil paint, which is quite thick (will have to thin, unfortunately negating some of the zero VOC appeal of this medium). It's expensive stuff and I don't want to waste much of it.
I actually went with a Sprayfiine A301 3 stage. The Fuji Mini-Mite 3 looks great, but is quite a bit more than the Sprayfine with a lot of similarities (except the Sprayfine comes with a bleed gun).
Thanks for watching, I appreciate it. I would go with the 2.0 PPS system, there is an investment up front with the H\O cups and adapter, and if you did the 1.0 system you'd be slowly phased out. With the thicker material you will need the h\o cups for that added back pressure. Match your aircap to your material as well.
What are pros and cons to the two different cup systems? Bottom feed and gravity feed?
I have only used the gravity and I like it, with the PPS setup I can get almost all the material out of the liners, very little waste.

I like spraying at all angles so I only use the PPS with the pressure cup.

I already have a pps system as I've sprayed with Iwatta and Sata for years. I just ordered the Fuji Mini Mite 5 for remote ability, and a 1.8 cap to also have the ability spray latex/thick sealers if I so desire. My question is, is the 65 dollar h/o 2.0 cup a huge improvement/requirement over the standard non h/o with this setup? I love 3m but 65 bucks for a plastic bowl is ridiculous.
Hey, Yes you will need it for the latex especially. Without the h\o cup you rely on gravity to feed the paint, it dosen't work that well. The Fuji is designed to have that back pressure so you'll need it.
Great video, answered so many questions I had about adding PPS 2.0 to my Fuji. I would assume the answer is “no”, but does the H/O cup help “push” thicker paints like latex? I know the standard T75 gravity cup is pressurized, but was hoping that maybe having the pressure on the top and sides of the liner might help push thicker paints. So far, I’ve had to thin most latex paints 15% and use a 1.8 or 2.0mm tip to get good results with the T75.
The H\p cup does help push the paint better. I have the Fuji Q5 and I can push latex pretty good. I do thin it about 10% just to help it but it works well. 18 or 2.0 tips of course.

2.0 All day, the top is a 1/4 turn instead of a screw on cap. The 2.0 has the larger dome so more materials is available after its filtered and the 1.0 is being phased out eventually.
Matt, although I agree with the time saving aspect of using 3M's PPS system is a huge reason why professionals add it to their Fuji Spray guns, from my experience the ability to spray at any attitude or angle is the main reason why non-pros should consider using it. In fact, that's also a serious advantage that all users will enjoy. And for the record, I use PPS on all my many spray guns, whether they're turbine or compressed air based.
I also would suggest that there's never any reason for non-PPS users to throw out leftover finish after their spraying session is over. Like myself, they can simply empty the leftover back into the tin.
And, for non-pros, or any finisher for that matter who doesn't mind taking a few extra minutes to reuse the disposable liners as well as the caps and plugs, they can save some money. I've found that I can usually get 5 uses out of each. Hey, what can I say, I'm a bit of a cheap skate!

thanks for this video, new subscriber because of this. I was confused on which parts to get for my fuji gravity gun like yours. I am moving to the PPS mainly because I want to be able to spray in any direction and the PPS lets me spray the inside of cabinets easier as I can now spray upside down. I like the fuji system but it still takes me a lot of fiddling around with viscosity to get the right flow. You did a great video here on the parts and another on the cleaning, but could you do a video on actually spraying different finishes, like a thick latex down to a thin lacquer and which tips you use for which? :) I am hoping this HO PPS helps push thicker finishes without thinning them down so much like I have to with the stock gun. If you do a finishing video, then you would have a full series! Also, very helpful as I couldn't figure out how the black ring fit in the assembly, this totally cleared it up as both fuji and 3M failed to explain it like you did!

Hey Kent, I have not been able to use the bottom cup system. I figured I'd let gravity pull the material down rather than use pressure to push the material up. That's about the extent of the research I did on which cup to use. Also fewer parts to wash in the gravity system.

Stupid question! Had one Fuji Q5 Platinum for just a week. Used it just for a painting job, painting some trim and shudders. Never made it work the right way even if I had the 3M PPS system. First of all, but the time I figure it out it might need a bigger air cap, the blue hose melted by the machine end. That was my fault. Had the unit right on the top of the stairs and the blue hose was too hot and not running flat on the floor and created a kink and overheated. Now my question is do you really think this is worth it? Like I said had it for a short time and was new to spraying. I sometimes do kitchen cabinets or trim to spray. At this point I am using a Titan 440 Impact and doing all this with it. Works great but I really hate the cleaning proccess and the waste of material. Thinking to get another one but still not sure what to do. I could just buy a stronger airless for all the ceiling and wall spraying ( Graco 695 Pro) and keep the Titan for insl-x cabinet coat and once in a while for polyurethane trim/ doors spraying. For these I could easily just buy a cheaper hvlp gun and run it throught a bigger compressor. Any thoughts on the Graco 9.5 hvlp system? Thanks a lot. Really nice channel btw.
Hey, Sounds like have a lot of different needs for spraying. The fuji can work for large areas like ceilings but its not ideal due to the low volume of materials it can store. You are probably going to have to use several different sprayers.
Overall I have been very happy with my sprayer and find no issues with it. From what you wrote it sounds like there was a learning curve in the beginning. I had that too. I don't have any experience with any other sprayers.

@@georgeturcu5761 I think that once you give it some practice, and use the correct setup you'll be pleased. It made for cabinets and small projects like that. But it also means one more system to mess around with. Might be able to do the cabinet with your airless by just swapping out the tips as well.
@@SimpleWoodShop I use the 310 fflp graco tips for cabinets. 310/312 fflp for trim depends on paint. I have to decide. Fuji Q5 or Graco 9.5 hvlp Comp. comes with pressure pot and built in compressor. Or maybe the Graco 395 Finish Pro. Same ideea but works as an airless too. I know I could just get a pressure pot for the Fuji but I have doubts that without a compressor will spray the same without thinning the paint. You been great. Thx again
@@georgeturcu5761 Got it, The only paint that I was unable to spray with my Q5 was thick metal paint from Rust oleum. It had a hard time and I'll probably thin it next time. House latex was fine with the 1.8 air cap.
Can you spray lacquer without the HO cup
Yes, there wont be any back pressure pushing the materials through the gun. So it may sputter, or you can push the disposal able bag as you spray. It will work. Not ideal but it will work. Chances are you'll end up getting the h\o cup to avoid that. That's what happened to me.

Question: You recommend using the H/O cup for thicker latex paint, would you recommend this system for all liquids, instead of the non H/O cup due to the added air pressure assist that allows you work even upside down? I'm just trying to decide which kit to purchase. In other words, is the simple gravity fed cup good enough, or should I get the H/O cup.
Hey, I would go with the h/o for everything. I tried to spray primer with only the gravity feed cup and it was frustrating. The h/o is about $80 and definitely provided that back pressure that is important. When I did the primer I found myself pressing down the liner with my hand to give it that pressure. There are two sizes of the H/O cups available. The smaller cup would be better for spraying upside down, because you typically are in tighter quarters and the cup fits better in those spots. Thanks for the video... so basically the 2.0 becomes a 1.0 if you need to use the H/O tube? Since you have to remove the locking ring, it basically makes it the 1.0 system and cost 2x as much. I was thinking of going to the 2.0 - lots of nice upgrades, Except that - which makes it useless with the Fuji T75G gun with pressure tube.
In my experience with it in order to use it with the T75G (which I use) you have to have the h\o cup for the back pressure. otherwise it is gravity fed and then your spray will not be consistent. It is a good setup, once you buy all the parts.
Pp0 what now that's too much information for my brain to keep all I need to know if I can use this system to spray out of the can let's just say that I buy a gallon of paint and start spraying like crazy and I dont need to worry about no pp0 but that you for your very useful video very informative thank you and I did subscribed to your channel thank you again

Great videos! Looking at upgrading my Fuji for woodworking tasks following your advice. I've only sprayed general water based finishes to date, love them. Was looking at the PPS guns for near zero cleanup, but I don't believe my Makita MAC5200 can push that guns requirements for air. (Any advice too the contrary for furniture finishing would be appreciated. ) in lieu of that direction, I need to add spraying latex paint. In your experience, can I already latex without thinning? What tip size would I want for my Fuji? If I sound uneducated, I am. I am new to spraying and know very little behind the one method I've been using that works. Side thought on cost factors. I currently have a bottom fed Fuji gun, so in addition to adding the PPS system, I would be adding a gravity fed gun as well.
Hi, Thanks for watching. My only experience has been with two Fuji HVLP systems. The q5 can do latex with the 1.8 air cap setup. Most of the time it can do it without thinning but that does help a little bit. The gravity pps 2.0 system is what I use and I am very please with it. I currently have some latex water based in the gun now and I will use it this afternoon. To do all of that you are looking at some $ but I would do it again if I needed to. If you plan to spray more than a quart at a time you may look into the pressure pot system as well.
You have some good information just wish your camera would zoom in to see the details. I have the Fuji 5 with the 3m system. And I'm having trouble just getting the plastic cup that comes with the gun to come off the gun. In the manual it says do not disassemble the cup assembly threads in your cup have been sealed at the factory to prevent leakage under pressure. So how do you use the 3m system? I'm so frustrated. I will call Fuji to get instructions. The videos from Fuji are not that good. They don't let you see any details apparently nobody wants to zoom in to see the small parts. I work in a factory that makes piston pumps. I trouble shoot tear them apart when they don't work and put them back together. Do factory setting use tools all day and I am having a horrible time with this. Can't imagine what most people are experiencing with this.

Sorry it’s frustrating. Are you trying to take off the factory cup and install the 3M adapter for their PPS cups?
If so you will to remove the old cup and install the adapter. It’s just threaded on. Removed the old cup and metal screw part. It’s an easily removed part.
Install the right adapter and then the 3M cups will thread into the adapter.
How do you save the material out of the h/o cup when your done?
Thanks for watching, The materials with the 3M PPS systems is inside a disposable liner and lid that has a filter in it. When you take both out of the h\0 cup you can put a plug in the top and put it in the cup that comes with each kit. Each kit comes with a hard plastic cup to store the solution in and plugs. The cups are reusable. The liners and lids are disposable. If you haven't yet, I would appreciate if you would subscribe, I am working to grow the channel.

Do you think you could paint a car with this Fuji sprayer? Seems it produces much less overspray than the compressor systems.
Hey, Yes, Car paint is typically on the thinner side and this pushes that stuff nicely. I don't have any experience with car painting or compressor systems. I think it would do a nice job.
When using the 3m PPS system do you have to plug the air line coming out of the gun? Or just let the air flow freely?
You will need the air for back pressure.

Quick question, great video BTW. So if you aren't spraying super thick materials then using the pressure tube isn't really necessary? All I will be spraying is automotive paints and I have a similar system currently with the disposable cups for my DeVilbiss paint gun. I'd love to have the same setup like that for the Fuji. I don't have a Fuji yet, I've been investigating the different systems out there. Seems like the Fuji is really good, the other one is the Apollo. Do you have any insight in to how those compare? thanks again.
Thanks for watching, I appreciate it. As long as you are getting consistent pressure and the spray is not sputtering then you are probably good without the pressure tube. For automotive spraying you might find yourself at odd angles and without the pressure tube pushing the paint it may not work as well. With the h\o pps system there is constant pressure so you can spray at odd angles.
Fuji is great stuff, I don't have any experience with the Apollo systems.

Pretty obvious why you throw away the filter, but why throw away the screw on lid when you're done spraying out a project? 3M recommendation or just don't want to clean it?
The hard plastic lid on the h/o cup you keep. The little plastic black ring that comes off you toss. The filter and liner you toss too.

It depends on the solution. If it’s thinner then you may be ok to not use the H/o cups. With the non H/O cup there is no pressure tube attachment so you rely on gravity to pull the material down. I would say your effectiveness would be severely diminished without the h/o
Does it change anything to the thinning? Do I need to thin the latex paint as much when using the 3M 2.0 ?
Thanks for watching. Might be able to get away with a little less thinning. Really depends on what sprayer you are using and the power it has. I use a fuji Q5 and maybe only thin 10%. But it’s been a bit since I’ve sprayed latex.

To be fair all your really throwing away is a filter if you clean out the disposable cup. You still have to clean the gun so sodd all difference imo. And what do you do with the pressure hose ???? The first pot had no option to fit it..
On the h\o pressure cup there is an attachment for the hose to go onto. It provides the pressure to push the material through the sprayer.

Hey, I always use the h\o cup. The original cup and system was designed to have that pressure pushing the material through the gun. So even though you are using thinner material it is probably best to use the h\o. But try it both ways and let me know here.

I can't get my air hose off of the gun cup - tried needle nose. Nope.
The colar may have dirt or grime in it. Try some wd-40 on the collar to loosen the bearings.

I thought the H/O version was for bottom fed guns, not gravity fed. I thought The normal 2.0 version was for gravity fed?
There is an H\O cup for both versions of the PPS. The h\o cup allows you to connect the air pressure to squeeze the bag and push the material through the tip. The Fuji sprayers need that pressure.
it looks like such a great system, but at ~$3 per disposable cup, Im not sure it saves anything over the filter and some wasted material :/ would be cool if you could just buy the liners. Im sure the hard plastic lid and plug could be reused far more times than the flexible liner.
I tend to wash out the liners and reuse them later one. It's pretty easy to do. Most are not $3 a liner they are really cheaper than that. They wash out very easily, another benefit is the whole thing is pretty air tight, so I can leave my sprayer and paint in the liner over night and spray the next day without any issue.
I notice that the HO does not have the ratio scale. Guess you gotta do it the old fashion way with it with a mixing cup
RIght, it's included on the regular cup system (without the pressure chamber) however I find I don't mix many mediums so it's good. WIth the Q5 the only thing I found I had to thin was some metal paint I used for a project. You could always use the liner in the non-pressure cup (the one with measurements) and then transfer the liner to the h\o cup. Without spilling of course.
The t75 plastic cup that comes with it is total crap

Could a 3m performance spray gun be used with the Fuji Q4 platinum?
It might be possible, not sure about the connector but I am sure there are adapters for that.
