Hamza Chaudhry Well it doesn't make a lot of sense to do that in all honesty. That's because most of their videos are really quite short ( < 10 min) and aren't really split up in to "sections" like this one is. Because this is longer, someone is more likely to want to reference just a little segment of it so the index system gives an advantage. But in shorter videos about just one thing, people are more likely to want to watch the whole thing anyway. Check out ChannelSuperFun for 1337 editing skillz.
OK im a fan of your channel Linus. But this is just BS : 1)Motherboard is not cheap (supposed to be a budget build) 2)Motherboard costs more than CPU (WTF), 3)SSD for a budget build is not a good use of money(hard drive for people on a budget) 4)Use's Intel in a budget build (AMD for budget, Intel for high-end) 5) R7 260X ( Waste of money get an R9 270X) Are you trying to get newcomers to PC to waste their money?
An all Intel based system so no GPU? The type of people who go for builds like these are mostly early to mid teens ,which means they have parents to pay for the power.
Intel must have paid Linus a pretty penny for this one. "If you want an upgrade to the CPU get a i3 or i5". Didn't mention AMD for a value build, disgusting.
Flat4Buggy I don't think Linus meant for you to buy a G3258 now and then in 6 months upgrade to an i3/5. He meant either buy the G3258, i3 or i5 now. With that in mind he could have mentioned an AMD CPU and a matching motherboard as well. I don't mind Linus doing a intel only build guide but calling it 'Ultimate' kind of implies that there isn't anything better, which in this price range there probably is.
LovelyCrit 'Don't be such a defensive fan tard'? When did I say AMD is better or worse than intel or that intel is better or worse than AMD, that's correct never. All I said is that he should have mentioned other options instead of giving us whatever component his sponsor gives him. And for the 'defensive fan tard', that seems to be you...
not at all i have both AMD and intel rigs and personally for a cheaply build like this id get a Phenom II but once again thats not the point of this video its what your options are if you want an INTEL build not what is the best options period an AMD option already exists so why even mention it.
SangYun Kim pm? wow, its 10:16am here, i forced myself to wake up and im happy now that im not sleeping until 3pm . nature is beatiful here, sun is shining and snow is everywere
ADevilNeverCry maybe. depends on the properties of the paint. also black paint can help dissipate heat via radiation. radiators are often painted black for a reason
1. Z97 for value is laughable. The featured MB costs $154 where I live while a full stocked B85 are around $90-100. 2. R7 260X has cracked down Fall 2014. It doesn't run the new games at affordable settings anymore and it will become worse later. 3. An SSD? And one of the most expensive out there too? But what pissed me the most is the fact that you said that this build is not being built to be super-upgradeable at 7:33 after saying that we can easily swap the CPU out for i3 or i5 later on at 2:36. That's a straight forward hypocrisy, man. So in the end we have a $650 build that features both low end CPU and GPU running on a lowpower PSU !!!AT THE SAME TIME!!! No real perfomance now, no perfomance without big investements later... This is either a failed trolling attempt or a sponsored bullshit.
well, you are right - althzough, I cannot let you say anything about the 430W PSU! it is MORE THAN ENOUGH for ANY CPU and single GPU! I understand that choice far more, than those idiots buying a 1000W PSU for their built! I can run my i5 2500-k with my GTX 980 with a 500 W PSU and I won't ever need more power, as long as I dont want to run 2x GPU in sli! all these "buy at least an 800W psu!" people do not know what they are talking about, it's simple as that!
ZeGermanGamer Aye but thing is you're running both energy effecient CPU and GPU. What if someone has an FX8300 and then wants to upgrade to R9 290? Or maybe he'd want to put a raid massive? The difference in price between 430 and say 600-650 aren't that big to sacrifice the potential.
Nick Dzink true, as long as you do not buy a PSU bigger than 630 W. anything more powerful is a total waste - especially in a "cheap" build. where I come from, electricity is expensive! I couldn't run my PC for the 14-16 hrs/day I do, if I had to use a 1000W PSU. ;) that said, the 630W will definitely be enough, even for the FX8300/R9 290 combo. many people forget, manufactuerers print the highest possible power usage, which has little to nothing to do with reality
Dallas Rodriguez if I were you, I wouldn't waste my time on "ultra" settings! 1. the differences to "very high" are barely visible at_all 2. your FPS go down in a massive way by "ultra" settings I switched my "Sapphire Radeon HD 5850 *extreme*", which still(!) delivered 30fps on high/very_high settings, for an "EVGA GTX 970", I finally can enjoy 60fps gaming - it IS such a big difference! it is better to aim for 60 fps in "medium" details, than to play in "ultra" detail with 30 fps! the "graphical fidelity" of 60fps juust makes more sense to me. also, sometimes toning down some of the graphics to medium has gigantic impact on your fps! I often could play with stable 30 fps on "very high" or "ultra" serrings, when I, for example, put "shadows" on "low" or "medium". "ultra" is just too seldom worth the massive drop in fps that particular detail levele causes.
Maybe after a few months when more pascal cards get released (1060) then the 960 prices will tank. Which will be a solid choice for the price it will be.
Probably not. It *might* run okay at lowest graphics settings, but you my want to upgrade to a gtx 1080 if you really wanna get anything out of the game.
What you guys think? i5 4460 ASUS Z97-A ASUS GTX 970 STRIX 8GB HyperX Fury DDR3 1600MHz (later will add another 8gb) 1TB WD Blue (later will add Samsung 840 EVO) Corsair CX600
I would swap the processor for an i5-4690k and upgrade the power supply for future proofness... (RM750 seems nice) These are the same specs I am about to use for my next build ;)
Get the ssd first, it would be a lot easier to initially have windows on it and then add a hard drive. Although Samsung are good for upgrading so you could get the hard drive first if you can't stick to low storage for a few weeks.
Oi, can this thing run solitaire and minesweep? How many dropped frames should I be anticipating per flag placed? I swear, it's the lag that kills me every time!
Oi, can this thing run solitaire and minesweep? How many dropped frames should I be anticipating per flag placed? I swear, it's the lag that kills me every time!
+MoreMusicPlease plus operating system something like windows 10 would cost 119. so all together 719. ugh I wish PC parts were cheap here as well. It would cost me 900$ to make a pc like this where I live. I think I will just buy a PS4 and use the extra dollars on games.
a true scotsman uth what are you saying man, to build a custom pc you need an operating system dont you? or are you going to pirate it you mean or rent it.?! my question to you is, who the hell can use a PC without an operating system.
I've built a similar one for my sister. She chose this exact case because it's cheap and also having a USB and power button facing up was better for her needs. I've been building PC for over 2 decades now and I accumulated spares for her. We used 2nd hand parts from GPU and Power supply. The only new parts we had was mobo/CPU and RAM. We even used windows license from her old laptop to upgrade for windows 10 into her new rig so we saved a ton. All and all, we spent little over $400 with employee discount from crucial. She ended up with.. AMD FX8350, DDR3 8GB RAM, FX R9 290, Corsair 750w PSU, that case, 2TB HDD. I think we did phenomenal job for saving and I was actually proud of it lol.
***** Except it's not. For the same cost of an SSD you could buy 2-3TB of storage drives like WD blue An SSD is only useful for quicker boot times, not ACTUAL processing power. SSD in a budget build is just fucking stupid. It's a luxury item and sure it's great to have but that's not what a budget build is about. I'd rather take a 290x over a 260 with a SSD..
***** I have a 120GB v300 SSD but as I said, this is a budget build, the SSD in the video is not nearly a budget SSD. Let alone; a gamer needs SPACE! Battlefield 4 is over 55GB with all DLC's installed, if you put that on a 120GB ssd you'll only have about 5GB left after windows updates. (currently have 60GB free, only got chrome, steam, etc small software installed)
SSD is a smart choice, it makes everything about the computer in the OS faster. I'm never going back to an HDD for a boot drive. It's just not worth it.
***** I still think it's stupid to start with an SSD and I will stick to that. SSD's should be seen as luxury items that add no ingame performance and only serve for faster loading times(since this is a gaming-pc build.) Though once you had an SSD you will never go back, I can still see why it would make sense to get a better GPU instead of an SSD.
I was transferring my rig from my old case to the new one and the USB 3.0 front panel connector from the new one wouldn't snap into the motherboard connector, My OCD was destroyed there because it was so wobbly, I somehow ignored it and made it through.
Just found this while looking through reviews of my PC case. I'm rebuilding my system and trying to figure out how to do a better job of cable management, so this was really helpful!
when this becomes outdated which its still not outdated yet unless you dont believe me i still say getting the i7 for this board (lga 1150) isnt hard and they are still not outdated and swap the r7 out for a gtx 1050ti or a 1060 dual
Patiently waiting for a 2020 version :) Currently my budget (ish) build is an asus p8p67le, i7 2600k oc'd to 4.4ghz 16gb ddr3 1600, rx5700 xt (found on crazy sale at r/buildapcsales) and an ssd on a 3440x1440 budget monitor. It's cheap, its outdated in places, but it absolutely chugs and never goes over 65c with air cooling in an old cooler master haf912 with a single 120mm front intake and a top mount 200mm exhaust fan!
I have no idea. The name Asus comes from the original idea for their name, Pegasus. But they cut it down to Asus so they showed up first in Phonebooks. So I think it would actually be pronounced us-us xD
I would go with the Pentium g4560 (or AMD zen when that's out), 8 gigs of single channel DDR4 so you can upgrade to 16GB later, an LGA 1151 (preferably B250 chip-set so you won't need to update BIOS) motherboard, a Hyper 212 EVO cooler, a WD blue 1TB or ADATA 120GB SSD, a GTX 1050ti or RX 470, a 500W PSU from EVGA, and a Corsair carbide 100R
Avinesh Benjamin personally, I would go with the corsair case, since it is $5 cheaper, and corsair is a more reputable and trusted brand than antec. However, cases are one of those things where you can pick one with the features and design you want. So that means if you want the antec case, go with it!
When you say it isn't compatible do you mean it will run shit or refuse to run at all? Not asking for myself so no need for an reply if you don't know haha :)
Jony duPre I don't know if there is a fix but there might be. I myself have a quad core CPU but it still won't work because it conflicts with so many applications (especially mouse/keyboard/sound card drivers EG. Razer Synapse) and crashes when using certain peripherals.
Actually you could better deals used, but if it's new we're talking about, then an Android TV box would be better cause either doesn't have to be as compact, but on the other hand, it's going to be running Android...
R7 260X are you joking? Maybe if you didn't blow so much of the budget on plugging your sponsors you could have afforded to put a better GPU in your PC build. But wait, that's right, this channel isn't for good information on PCs -it's good for learning who Linus is getting sponsored by this episode. Thanks Linus.
Maybe a 270 would have done it for almost the same price, but remember this is a VALUE orientated build. If you want an nvidia card, sucks to be you because nvidia isnt the best for value builds, and if you want something even more expensive like the 290x, keep in mind again, this is a VALUE build. Look at the other components to see what the build is about...
O it is, unless your buying something like a Chromebook, or Chromebox that has Intel in it for a low price. AMD for the last 25 years has been the budget/value builders choice, as they tend to keep a socket around longer, which means not having to buy a new motherboard every 2 years just too do a CPU upgrade, and the overall cost of building with AMD is lower, which is why I've always gone with AMD for my builds.
Commodorefan64 Except when you have to pay your own electricity bills. I had to pay 200 euro's more then last year just for my FX-8100 & HD 7950 build. Won't be going back to AMD till I get some freaking solar panels or a nuclear reactor lmao.
Calyx Seriously I run my AMD A-10 5800K APU and MSI R7 250OC running on an MSI Micro ATX board, on an Antec Antec 80+ Bronze 430 Watt continuous PSU, so less wattage then my old AMD Athalon II X3 system which ran on a 650 watt Ultra PSU. It's all about a power efficient Motherboard, GPU, PSU, and using 2.5in power efficient HDD's which I run 3 of in my system. So again it's about choosing the right parts, and not buying more system then you need.
Commodorefan64 r7 250 is a joke of a card though. I need to power a 1440p monitor and get 60fps.. got an i7 4790k and EVGA gtx 970 now though. Should save me aloot of money in the long run.. I have a seasonic 80+ gold and still had to pay 200 euro extra..
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Intel edition? What about the AMD edition? You're not saying a budget AMD CPU can't handle things as well as an intel one, are you Linus? To be fair, Intel is great, and they've been doing rather nicely lately, but I prefer AMD because they are, usually, cheaper and usually still deliver good performance.
lmao. i do like the instructions his youtube though. watch builds of the high end PC's and they go together just like a mid end pc just with less expensive parts
I would have bought an APU and a higher watt power supply so the next time I have pc building money just buy a high end gpu instead. Kaveri would definitely max out the LOL type games and still be able to play AAA games at or above console level. It's not a bad compromise when you think about being able to buy a 380x at tax time or something. Yes I'm assuming that someone building a low budget computer might be in a low tax bracket please put down the pitchforks.
If anyone is watching this in 2020, I bought this case many years ago and I still love it, about to upgrade all my parts but I am keeping the case. Would still recommend 👍🏼
The SPEC-01 is a fantastic case, I love mine and will probably be building in it for years to come. What parts are you putting in? Also, have you ever taken the front panel of the case off? I've tried but it feels like I'm going to break it!
LAB Speedsoft Team I actually just found out recently that I could take off the front cover, have not got around to it though, I will when i do a deep clean before I put my new parts in, I looked online on how to do it and i read something about how there is 3 tabs on each side when you take off the side covers, he didnt show that in this video. And I will be upgrading to an MSI MPG Z390 mother board, i7-9700k with a Noctua NH-U12s cooler, and a GTX 1080, I will be running this with 4 corsair AF120 fans in the case. And I will be keeping my 750 watt power supply that I bought all those years ago.
Hey guys! I am considering buying these parts for my first ever gaming build, what do you think? Can I improve something? Let me know! SPECS: -GRAPHICS CARD: Sapphire Radeon r9 280x 3GB Dual-X -MOTHERBOARD: Gigabyte AM3+ AMD DDR3 1333 760G HDMI USB 3.0 Micro ATX Motherboard GA-78LMT-USB3 -CPU COOLER: Cooler master hyper 212 EVO -RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) (Blue) -CPU: AMD FX-6300 6-Core Processor -HDD: Western Digital 1TB 3.5 inches -POWER SUPPLY: Corsair CX Series 600 Watt (80+ Bronze) -CASE: NZXT No Power Supply ATX Mid Tower Case Cases CA-S340W-B1 -SSD: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series 120GB 2.5 This build costs $630 -Thanks
Its about bang for your buck. The processor is a dual core and is horrible. Some newer games will fail to even launch. You would be much better off going with an FX-4300 for the amount of performance you get for the money.
Haven't you seen the whole video dumb-dumb? It says "Intel Version", they had another "AMD Version". Go watch older videos and learn to think before you comment.
Richard Smith You have no idea what you're talking about lol The G3258 is an incredible CPU that can run any game and will not be bottlenecks even by a high end card like a 970.
cristofor pelic Probably because if most people heard the price of the motherboard he chose they would start laughing their asses off at the "budget" part of the title.
cristofor pelic you can get the m5a78l-m/usb3 with an fx 6300 processor and radeon r9 graphics card and you are sorted for battlefield 4 on high - ultra :P
NotIrishRider than just buy 2x8 ram than 2 more fans to the case for better cooling than a better cpu cooler than you can overclock or get the fx8350 which is the best value for money cpu on todays market
Hey Linus, maybe do a by yearly budget build video like this one would be awesome to not only first time builders BUT to those that are always on a budget or parents building computers for their kids to play on. THANK YOU so much for all you tips, I am learning for the first time on how to build a system and I've been learning a ton from watching your channel. The case for that build looks exactly like mine but I think mine was a Spec-3. I wish Corsair continued the bane case look.
Yeah, I'm still confused. I hastily animated that intro with the help of audience submitted Androidify characters. You can tell because it has my trademark' placeholder that was never replaced' graphic in the monitor.
the cpu, cooler and case are together for abotu 195, and the 960 is about 100 dlls (mini 2gb model also that price includes 850 evo 120 gb and a barracuda i think 1 or 2 tb
***** no because he doesnt touch voltages and its auto voltage so with a light oc the voltage will rise to whatever it needs to automatically. But yes, if he sets a manual voltage he has to make sure its enough for that specific chip and OC, but as he leaves it in auto, there is no risk
Is my pc, which i got for my birthday, good for gaming? Specs: AMD Radeon R9 295X2 Intel Core i7 5930k MSI X99A Gaming 7 Motherboard ASUS Water Cooling System 2TB Hard Drive/18GB Ram Acer Monitor Windows 10 (64-Bit) Disclaimer: Im not trying to show off because im new to pc gaming. Also im a bit insecure because i want my pc to have what it takes to run games good without lagging! (PLEASE REPLY) :-)
this is not the most value gaming pc its a good vid with a lot of helpful info a ok pc for a everyday joe and it will work as a gaming pc but in term of price to performance there could be better first of all no ssd that is money that could be put into the GPU maybe try to go for something like a r9 270x gtx 750ti r9 270 or something like that and a amd cpu is cheaper if u count cost of the mobo and that may be better if u can use the more core which most ppl can even if ur just running one game cuz of background stuff although the intel if pretty good its more of a personal choice there are pros and con to both but the point being cut back a little more on some of the other stuff and get a better gpu the r9 260x is a little slow if you want a pc build (list of parts) the youtuber CultOfMush maybe of help with his vid just watch the dates make sure its a kinda new vid or just post on some tech form like the linustechtips form or another form and someone can probably help you out have a nice day and happy new year
Ya but I think a power color graphics card with an Intel pentium processor running off the power of a broken microwave might be better. Oh and don't forget to add windows Vista!
***** Games like Dragon Age Inquisition have quad cores as a minimum requirement despite not even using them to their potential. Though any pre-2014 game should be just fine on the G3258.
***** FarCry 4 is a bad example as it pegs core 3 at close to 80% and leaves the other cores at idle. That is the only reason duel cores couldn't run it at launch and I believe there is a workaround how. BF4 might be the only game that actually needs more than 2 cores. An i3 with hyperthreading will work for a budget build.
Strange that a very popular channel dedicated to tech tips buils and such isnt doing a very basic and consistent serials where they do this semi-annually for budget. This is what most people are here for. The other large portion is here for the expensive stuff, but they already typically know what they want/need and are looking out for aesthetics. Come on Linus.
it says OC (overclock), and while AMD has high speeds and 4 cores, the G3258 can be overclocked to 4.7ghz! It can even go higher, and when overclocked, it can match i5s an i7s.
why you guys ALWAYS use intel? if you want to shave a LOT of money when building a pc you can get a top AMD cpu for a LOT cheaper than the cheapest entry lvl intel and their mobos are also cheaper. and you wont even notice.
Just came back to this from 5 years in the future. Oh, the nostalgia. I miss Approaching Nirvana
Its 3am here right now and aim on a nostalgia trip, 2013-5 has been really good time for me, Approaching Nirvana and monstercat music with Linus videos or minecraft is such a memory for me
8 years now
8 years....
Today I was installing case fans and I wanted to know how that front panel of the case comes out 😂
8years
4 years ahead of u bro
ahhhh memories. first pc build guide I ever watched, and watched on repeat. Thanks for these high quality videos linus!
1 minute in. Now I kinda want 3 8K monitors capable of running Crysis 6 at over 120 frames per second. BUILD GUIDE, Linus, build guide please!
rhat jiggled me
he did make one, just a few months ago. the overkill gaming rig
5 Perservance No I like my desk chair and my cats, U cant take them!.
You know that huge ass IBM supercomputer?
Yea, it couldn't run it, no GPU
***** Why do people always assume intel will make a new series past i7 extreme (consumer grade)..... It would be more like an i7 9960x 54 core
DEAR LINUS:
I'm currently using the same exact build and it has no issue at all! It runs pretty much any game but it's true that this build needs an update! Please do another ULTIMATE VALUE BUILD!

Please revisit this for a new 2015 version of the "ultimate value gaming build guide". Why not make it a 6 month recurring series?
+Jay Hollow Much agreed! Good idea Jay Hollow
+Jay Hollow This a great idea. Linus should definitely do more budget builds IMO.
He doesn't do these as often because it takes a lot of time, costing money, that's why they prefer build logs
Plz make a 2015 version of this one
+Jay Hollow the new board for 2015 is the asus z97-E its cheaper than the one in this video with more features!
How to build an affordable gaming PC:
Step 1) Don't live in fucking Canada

o. o Ohai there.
Yep. Gtx 970 in America: $350, in Australia: $500+ and even with a mid range card my pc is an INFERNO!!!
Step 2: Dont live in Norway either !
Or Finland? 980 Classified, 970 USD in here. o/
Almost says the price in the name. :D
Step 3 dont live in india
It sucks
Coz of server lags and high prices
best edited video on this channel, i like the index looking thing at the start. whoever edited this should edited like this evreytime
+Hamza Chaudhry Pretty much all the build guides are like this ;)
Tommy59375 thanks but why cant they edit like this for other vids
Hamza Chaudhry
Well it doesn't make a lot of sense to do that in all honesty. That's because most of their videos are really quite short ( < 10 min) and aren't really split up in to "sections" like this one is. Yes
yes my ocd is through the rood
+joshoooooawwwww You saying rood is giving me OCD lol
I ment roof
+ihor purtov oh my god, i can't handle it
Please tell me I wasn't the only one who was really bothered at 7:50 where Linus didn't push the power connector all the way down.

Franco Bowden Don't remind me.
Franco Bowden Drives my OCD crazy

An all Intel based system so no GPU? The type of people who go for builds like these are mostly early to mid teens ,which means they have parents to pay for the power.

Hey, I have that case! I used it in a PC build I did back on 2016, and I'm reusing it again for my build that's coming in today.
Amazing video quality, but.... putting an intel ssd + z97 in with a r7-260x and 3258 contradicts 'ultimate value'....
Maybe isn't the "ultimate value" but it's still a halfway decent computer if you don't need AAA games on max settings.
Yes

Franc[e]sco Nope
Franc[e]sco Probably down the road
caillou poop Yes it fucking does... paint can retain heat, keep it from leaving theheatsink.
ADevilNeverCry normal spray paint not stove paint
Almost certainly the latter.
well, you are right - althzough, I cannot let you say anything about the 430W PSU! it is MORE THAN ENOUGH for ANY CPU and single GPU!
I couldn't run my PC for the 14-16 hrs/day I do, if I had to use a 1000W PSU. ;)
that said, the 630W will definitely be enough, even for the FX8300/R9 290 combo.
many people forget, manufactuerers print the highest possible power usage, which has little to nothing to do with reality
Dallas Rodriguez if I were you, I wouldn't waste my time on "ultra" settings!
1. the differences to "very high" are barely visible at_all
2. your FPS go down in a massive way by "ultra" settings
I switched my "Sapphire Radeon HD 5850 *extreme*", which still(!) delivered 30fps on high/very_high settings, for an "EVGA GTX 970", I finally can enjoy 60fps gaming - it IS such a big difference!
it is better to aim for 60 fps in "medium" details, than to play in "ultra" detail with 30 fps!
the "graphical fidelity" of 60fps juust makes more sense to me.
also, sometimes toning down some of the graphics to medium has gigantic impact on your fps!
I often could play with stable 30 fps on "very high" or "ultra" serrings, when I, for example, put "shadows" on "low" or "medium".
"ultra" is just too seldom worth the massive drop in fps that particular detail levele causes.
This video single-handedly sparked my interest in PC building. It’s nice to come back to it.
Ultimate Value Gaming Build Guide 2016 pls..

+Kent Chibi Sardz for sure
Maybe after a few months when more pascal cards get released (1060) then the 960 prices will tank. Which will be a solid choice for the price it will be.
+Rhy Yan Goh
One word... RX 480
Two of them is better than a 1080, cheaper too.
we all have that friend who buys a stock $900 Asus desktop with a GTX 750 and an i7 although he/she only plays Simulator games like Mechanic Simulator
I knew someone who bought a 700$ PC that had a gt720.
Sylοuι or plays league of legends.
+Sylοuι My friend has a computer with an Intel Core i7 4820K, EVGA GeForce GTX970 4GB with 16GB of RAM and only plays Minecraft and Unturned. ;-;
+Sylοuι Better than my brother who uses an alienware 18 to play agar.io because the laptop looks cool.
+HD1080i Gaming your brother is bringing down the pc gaming curve for a: using alienware and b: using it to only play agario
Wait he never specified whether it could run club penguin?
Probably not. It *might* run okay at lowest graphics settings, but you my want to upgrade to a gtx 1080 if you really wanna get anything out of the game.
no. with the new update you might need a Xeon 18Core and 2 GTX 1080s to run it on at least 20fps
+T3KNUG3T5 Really I heard you needed a 25 core.
+T3KNUG3T5 Hmm maybe I need to download more RAM.
the NEEWWW NEW update requires a 53Core Xeon, 512TB RAM, and 64 GTX 1080s OCd to 4000Mhz
i miss this year i remember watching this on my old gateway netbook
What you guys think?
i5 4460
ASUS Z97-A
ASUS GTX 970 STRIX
8GB HyperX Fury DDR3 1600MHz (later will add another 8gb)
1TB WD Blue (later will add Samsung 840 EVO)
Corsair CX600
SSD
Get an SSD
I would swap the processor for an i5-4690k and upgrade the power supply for future proofness... (RM750 seems nice)
These are the same specs I am about to use for my next build ;)
Get the ssd first, it would be a lot easier to initially have windows on it and then add a hard drive. Although Samsung are good for upgrading so you could get the hard drive first if you can't stick to low storage for a few weeks.
***** Oh wow
Oi, can this thing run solitaire and minesweep? How many dropped frames should I be anticipating per flag placed? I swear, it's the lag that kills me every time!
Not even close. It chugs through both barely pushing 10fps on the lowest settings.
Oi, can this thing run solitaire and minesweep? How many dropped frames

+Michael Tarantino nononono its 1 fps
niiiiiiceeeeeeee
Oi, u want sum!? ill giv it ya!!
Its a $600 build.You are Welcome
I assumed it was under 700, thank you
+MoreMusicPlease plus operating system something like windows 10 would cost 119. so all together 719. ugh I wish PC parts were cheap here as well. It would cost me 900$ to make a pc like this where I live.
I think I will just buy a PS4 and use the extra dollars on games.
+Poteto Salado who the hell buys windows?
a true scotsman uth what are you saying man, to build a custom pc you need an operating system dont you?
or are you going to pirate it you mean or rent it.?! my question to you is, who the hell can use a PC without an operating system.
Poteto Salado go on reddit and get it for 5 dollars, or pirate
Just watched the 1 hour video on how to build a pc and thought I'd check this out. About to build my first pc from scratch.
Why the fuck would you waste money in a ssd instead on a more powerful video card?
I was thinking the same thing, That f bomb was kind of excess tho
***** Except it's not.
For the same cost of an SSD you could buy 2-3TB of storage drives like WD blue
An SSD is only useful for quicker boot times, not ACTUAL processing power.
7:51 My ocd is killing me
philipx550 I never check my cables because I know they are in the right position because I checked when I plugged them in the 1st time :D
Yeah - mine triggered aswell.. :)
I was transferring my rig from my old case to the new one and the USB 3.0 front panel connector from the new one wouldn't snap into the motherboard connector, My OCD was destroyed there because it was so wobbly, I somehow ignored it and made it through.
***** thats not funny my grandpa died a slow and painful death of cancer
It's OCD. :P
Just found this while looking through reviews of my PC case. I'm rebuilding my system and trying to figure out how to do a better job of cable management, so this was really helpful!
Yo when is 2016 edition coming or should I say 2017
Probably waiting on Kaby Lake.
From what's been released, Kaby Lake doesn't look like it's worth the wait. At least it runs on 1151 socket mobos.
g4560 when?
when this becomes outdated which its still not outdated yet unless you dont believe me i still say getting the i7 for this board (lga 1150) isnt hard and they are still not outdated and swap the r7 out for a gtx 1050ti or a 1060 dual
Charles thekinglov 1060 dual isnt sli ready and can only be dual on LDA explicit mode, which needs a VERY WELL OPTIMISED DX12 game
Please do a 2016 budget build same price
Patiently waiting for a 2020 version :)
Currently my budget (ish) build is an asus p8p67le, i7 2600k oc'd to 4.4ghz 16gb ddr3 1600, rx5700 xt (found on crazy sale at r/buildapcsales) and an ssd on a 3440x1440 budget monitor.
It's cheap, its outdated in places, but it absolutely chugs and never goes over 65c with air cooling in an old cooler master haf912 with a single 120mm front intake and a top mount 200mm exhaust fan!
Nice
Man, I remember watching this video as my first LTT video way back when. It's crazy to think that almost seven years have passed...
Funny how linus always say "on a static free workstation"

Is it Asus pronounced "Ace-us" or "Asoose"
+mason methot A-SOOS
I've always pronounced it like Ace-us but where the hell did you hear Ass Sauce!??!!?
mason methot hahah ikr
***** I understand what you were trying to get to, bu still.
I have no idea. The name Asus comes from the original idea for their name, Pegasus. But they cut it down to Asus so they showed up first in Phonebooks. So I think it would actually be pronounced us-us xD
Are you doing another video like this anytime soon?
what about 2017 edition of this?
a G4560 processor, 8 gigs of ddr4 ram, any cheap LGA1151 motherboard, an rx 460 or gtx 1050, wd blue 1tb hard drive or a 120gb ssd and cosair spec m2
I would go with the Pentium g4560 (or AMD zen when that's out), 8 gigs of single channel DDR4 so you can upgrade to 16GB later, an LGA 1151 (preferably B250 chip-set so you won't need to update BIOS) motherboard, a Hyper 212 EVO cooler, a WD blue 1TB or ADATA 120GB SSD, a GTX 1050ti or RX 470, a 500W PSU from EVGA, and a Corsair carbide 100R
what about antec gx200 usb 3.0 version dont you think its better than corsair case?
Thanks guys!
Avinesh Benjamin personally, I would go with the corsair case, since it is $5 cheaper, and corsair is a more reputable and trusted brand than antec. However, cases are one of those things where you can pick one with the features and design you want. So that means if you want the antec case, go with it!
i would LOVE to see this revisited in 2017 .. But for real this is how Linus tech tips use to be, making actual useful content

Around $700 I believe (without mouse, keyboard and monitor)
*****
I'm pretty sure this is under $450. The CPU and GPU are together under 200.
You can check the list on the website in the video description
Well, you definitely won't be playing Far Cry 4 on that rig since it is not compatible with dual core CPUs...
When you say it isn't compatible do you mean it will run shit or refuse to run at all? Not asking for myself so no need for an reply if you don't know haha :)
***** Refuses to run at all, won't start up but if I'm not mistaken, there's a fix for that.. (could be wrong tho)
Jony duPre I don't know if there is a fix but there might be. I myself have a quad core CPU but it still won't work because it conflicts with so many applications (especially mouse/keyboard/sound card drivers EG. Razer Synapse) and crashes when using certain peripherals.
I have a quad core also just asked out of curiosity and also razer synapse causes obs to lag a streamer found out so that software is pretty flawed
Wait whaaaaat....? Does FC4 need 4 threads or does it just run really well with more threads?
Even 2 years later I still refer back to this video. Great video, helped me build my 7700k 1080ti rig.
Raspberry Pi is the best budget build.
+samtherat6 It isn't a build if you buy a pre-built system.
no it's not, let it go
let it goooo
really? Raspberry Pi? It's not even a build. It's a pre-built system.
Actually you could better deals used, but if it's new we're talking about, then an Android TV box would be better cause either doesn't have to be as compact, but on the other hand, it's going to be running Android...
With 4k
R7 260X are you joking? Maybe if you didn't blow so much of the budget on plugging your sponsors you could have afforded to put a better GPU in your PC build. But wait, that's right, this channel isn't for good information on PCs -it's good for learning who Linus is getting sponsored by this episode.
Thanks Linus.
umm, nvidia can't do shit right on the low end of graphics cards...
Considering he was sponsored by Intel in this particular episode, why would they "make" him use what is effectively their competitor?
The only budget GeForce card worth considering right now is the GTX 750 Ti, which performs worse than the R7 260X.
Aurion Woodgate In what way is Intel a competitor to AMD's graphics card department?
Maybe a 270 would have done it for almost the same price, but remember this is a VALUE orientated build. If you want an nvidia card, sucks to be you because nvidia isnt the best for value builds, and if you want something even more expensive like the 290x, keep in mind again, this is a VALUE build. Look at the other components to see what the build is about...
This chip has spunk? Aha spunk is a slang word for semen in England xD
wtf?
That is the exact comment I was looking for 😂
+radioactiveplums i have that cpu can confirm semen on it
ImaqtDann Same, it's a really good thermal paste substitute not gonna lie.
+radioactiveplums I was thinking the exact same!
this iwas the video that got me started into pc building and gaming, Every time i watch this video i get crazy nostalgia
i feel like "intel" and "value" is kind of a contradiction
Calyx get a platnium psu and leave all the lights on your house off, itll be fine.
To be fair, Intel is great, and they've been doing rather nicely lately, but I prefer AMD because they are, usually, cheaper and usually still deliver good performance.
he already did the amd edition a weeek or 2 ago xD
How the hell did I miss that, LOL!
Point, LOL!
The top of the line amd still doesn't beet the lowest end i5 which is the same price so yeeah intel ftw
***** uhh I dont see any vid Link?
Ummm... If you spray paint the heatsink... wont the paint melt onto the motherboard?
If no... Great! Cuz i am planning on painting mine.
Param Tahilramani Please answer
this is probably one of the best ltt videos ever
instructions not clear enough, got potato stuck in ram slot
lmao. i do like the instructions his youtube though. watch builds of the high end PC's and they go together just like a mid end pc just with less expensive parts
got my dick stuck in the cpu and an apple in the graphics card
instructions not clear enough, got motherboard stuck in ram slot... you guys can find the pun in that.
+Xavier Bob how could you get a console in a ram slot?
Compass Comix i said motherboard, not console.
did any one notice the little guy in the bottom left a 8:15
yes
+Dirt Yeah, that's Linus ;)
+Dirt yeh it was with the speak #animaguy
Yea thats Taran (The editor)
yes
For $30, the Hyper 212 EVO cooler is a no-brainer and should've been included!
Hey, do you have any advice on PC build between $1000 and $2200?
randomfrankp The Hyper 212 Evo is no longer the price/performance king, there are cheaper and better options e.g. Raijintek Themis
it's a pentium
This was the video that encouraged me to build my first PC! Ah nostalgia...
I woulda gone with an 860K and R9 270 personally. Not a fanboy of AMD it just seems like a better and more worthwhile build.
This build has stronger single core performance.
That Pentium is in fact faster even at base clock, and even faster overclocked.
Brandon Godbolt what with its 2 cores and all
A8 6600K would be better
Is this a good build?

yeah its good
+Sean Hager yes very good
+Sean Hager Could really get a better CPU
+Sean Hager I would recommend posting this on the Linus Tech Tips forum, where you'll probably get some more suggestions.
6 years later, you can still sell a 260X for the same price.
@@WadeSuave Sounds awesome! Let me know how it goes, and if you can manage to get the front cover off
Hey guys! I am considering buying these parts for my first ever gaming build, what do you think? Can I improve something? Let me know!

Ugh, that processor. Barf. Intel for high end, amd for budget please.
It's like $80
How is that not budget?
Its about bang for your buck. The processor is a dual core and is horrible. Some newer games will fail to even launch.
You would be much better off going with an FX-4300 for the amount of performance you get for the money.
Haven't you seen the whole video dumb-dumb? It says "Intel Version", they had another "AMD Version". Go watch older videos and learn to think before you comment.
Richard Smith You have no idea what you're talking about lol
The G3258 is an incredible CPU that can run any game and will not be bottlenecks even by a high end card like a 970.
First: Sponsored by Intel
Second: It mentioned it is the Intel Edition. So suspect an AMD version is along the pipeline

Im still using a membrane logitech from around 1999. i had to fix the spacebar with superglue and a toothpick but it still works!
I love how he says budget but never says the price
cristofor pelic Probably because if most people heard the price of the motherboard he chose they would start laughing their asses off at the "budget" part of the title.
Martezo Sylviana yeah all these rich youtubers like Linus an CultOfMush have no idea what budget is
cristofor pelic you can get the m5a78l-m/usb3 with an fx 6300 processor and radeon r9 graphics card and you are sorted for battlefield 4 on high - ultra :P
NotIrishRider than just buy 2x8 ram than 2 more fans to the case for better cooling than a better cpu cooler than you can overclock or get the fx8350 which is the best value for money cpu on todays market
cristofor pelic does anyone know how much would all that cost?

Hey Linus, maybe do a by yearly budget build video like this one would be awesome to not only first time builders BUT to those that are always on a budget or parents building computers for their kids to play on. THANK YOU so much for all you tips, I am learning for the first time on how to build a system and I've been learning a ton from watching your channel. The case for that build looks exactly like mine but I think mine was a Spec-3. I wish Corsair continued the bane case look.

4:53 AT LAST! LINUS USES SOMETHING THAT I'M GONNA USE
Even if it this pc case is 5 years old at this point
What was your grand total for this build?
800 euros
Linus, that is terrible advice. Why would you oc before installing Windows? Sounds like a pretty good way to corrupt a Windows install.
lel... how can u corrupt windows with an OC ? XD
***** If you blue screen during the install?
David Parker ah... but it wont blue screen with such a light OC
+iDerekMC That's a 37% oc.
***** no because he doesnt touch voltages and its auto voltage so with a light oc the voltage will rise to whatever it needs to automatically. But yes, if he sets a manual voltage he has to make sure its enough for that specific chip and OC, but as he leaves it in auto, there is no risk
>budget pc...
> intel pro ssd
>wat
he also says to scrimp everywhere else and put that into vid card, aka get amd lol
You know to be honest with you I am really enjoying this gaming build. Thank you @LinusTechTips really amazing
What the fuck is a dirt showdown

Crappy rally racing game. They should use the new Dirt title to test

That's the case I have and I always wondered what that "random piece of metal" at 10:09 was for, glad I'm not the only one confused by it XD
this is not the most value gaming pc its a good vid with a lot of helpful info a ok pc for a everyday joe and it will work as a gaming pc but in term of price to performance there could be better first of all no ssd that is money that could be put into the GPU maybe try to go for something like a r9 270x gtx 750ti r9 270 or something like that and a amd cpu is cheaper if u count cost of the mobo and that may be better if u can use the more core which most ppl can even if ur just running one game cuz of background stuff although the intel if pretty good its more of a personal choice there are pros and con to both but the point being cut back a little more on some of the other stuff and get a better gpu the r9 260x is a little slow if you want a pc build (list of parts) the youtuber CultOfMush maybe of help with his vid just watch the dates make sure its a kinda new vid or just post on some tech form like the linustechtips form or another form and someone can probably help you out have a nice day and happy new year
Ya but I think a power color graphics card with an Intel pentium processor running off the power of a broken microwave might be better. Oh and don't forget to add windows Vista!
Am I right LinusTechTips ?
xXSpiderVen0mXx yep just buy that everyone its super fast lel
The R7 260X is superior to the 750Ti......
***** Dude, this build sucks. Plain and simple. With that price, there should be a 270X/280 in there.
G3258 is an awful choice for this. Games are now REQUIRING quad cores to even run. Could have at least picked a cheap quad core instead of that.
A Amd cheap quad-core costs as much as this cpu.. Which speaks for itself.
***** Crysis 3?
***** Games like Dragon Age Inquisition have quad cores as a minimum requirement despite not even using them to their potential. Though any pre-2014 game should be just fine on the G3258.
Jubba Fudgy MGS5?
***** FarCry 4 is a bad example as it pegs core 3 at close to 80% and leaves the other cores at idle. That is the only reason duel cores couldn't run it at launch and I believe there is a workaround how. BF4 might be the only game that actually needs more than 2 cores. An i3 with hyperthreading will work for a budget build.
intel sponsor me plz
with your spelling, not at all.
lol

Strange that a very popular channel dedicated to tech tips buils and such isnt doing a very basic and consistent serials where they do this semi-annually for budget. This is what most people are here for. The other large portion is here for the expensive stuff, but they already typically know what they want/need and are looking out for aesthetics. Come on Linus.
to save money you would have thought he would have gone with AMD
i missed this in the description "This video build guide was brought to you by Intel!" makes sence lol
Justin Bell he also already did a AMD value build guide
hmmm, i have not seen that, i will need to make my way to that vid :)
it says OC (overclock), and while AMD has high speeds and 4 cores, the G3258 can be overclocked to 4.7ghz! It can even go higher, and when overclocked, it can match i5s an i7s.
LookAtMyDab and you can upgrade to an a better processor without getting a new motherboard
why you guys ALWAYS use intel? if you want to shave a LOT of money when building a pc you can get a top AMD cpu for a LOT cheaper than the cheapest entry lvl intel and their mobos are also cheaper. and you wont even notice.
AMD r the 8est
shitel sux
a55
st0p
i cant t4ke anymore of your ground breaking f4ct5
Of course you went with a shitty Intel processor when you could get a FX-6300 or better.. wonder why
Valuetown
Huehuehue it uses the same socket as most i7s so you can upgrade when you want and it goes to a higher clock speed then a fx6300
Sponsortown
+Huehuehue hmm maby cause it the INTEL edition build???
+bas van der werff the title says "Ultimate Value". Intel is NOT value compared to AMD
I built my personal rig based on this build guide. Lots of fun to build!
