In fact I downloaded all 5 episodes of this documentary and spent 2.5 hour of last night watching it with total aggression. And I can say that Daniel Mancilla, the driver was such a wonderful personality. I felt like visiting Brazil to taste this adventure. Much love from Accra -Ghana
This driver is the soul of this documentary. Such a kind and humble human! An inspiration! It makes me want to buy a ticket and do that route with some friends in that bus. Thank you DW, for this amazing documentary!
This documentary is a must watch for travellers to South America. The human touch is evident in the five part series as we get to know and love the characters and their emotions. A beautiful peice of art with a lot of heart.
I went to Cusco for 5 weeks in the Summer of 2018. Also visited Machu Picchu. Cusco is actually higher in elevation than Machu Picchu. My advice to anyone going to Cusco is to get some cardio strength before going and prepare for a tough adjustment. I live at sea level and the experience of adjusting to Cusco was much more difficult than I expected. I would wake up in the middle of the night gasping for air, especially the first several weeks. And the experience of climbing up and down steep streets and hills definitely gave me an incredible cardio workout (there is almost nothing flat in Cusco).
This brings back so many memories. I spent 3 months in Cuzco which gave me a lot of time to visit Machu Picchu and many other Inca sites in the Urubamba valley. I did the bus tour to Puerto Maldonado and remember much of the road, including the bread in Oropeza. As soon as this Covid crisis is over, I'm going to South America again, but I will never do a long trip like that nonstop.
Visiting Machu Pichu definitely needs crowd control. Maintaining a limited number of people that can visit the place in a guided tour (i.e. tourist not damaging anything) will help in preserving this historic site.
Just finished the 4th part and already mesmerized by the video. Perhaps the passengers are like film Artists. They have entered into history. And Machu Pichu legends,,, wowed by it.
Peru is much more similar to Nepal. When i Watched landscape and people and road, I felt that I am in Nepal, Everything is similar except the language and driving lane. Really amazing documentary...
I have so much respect for the tribes. They understand the true meaning of life. I wish I was about 50 years younger. I never made it to Peru. Had I understood exactly what goes on in Peru I think I might have wanted to live there... high in the Andes. The younger the better.
Hi👋 i am from India Wow.. i gone to One of the wonder in the World.. beautiful Machu Picchu😘😘😘...Cuzco , Peru nd villages in nature scenery 😍.. In my imagination i will be there. My special thanks 🤝to Ormeno Bus company nd cameraman 🤝 Till.
Extremely impressed with the excellent road. We never know the names of the engineers and the laborers who build giant structures, and somehow we should. There should be an Oscar for engineering feats as well as other things.
Thank you! We're glad that you're enjoying the journey so far. If you haven't already, make sure you watch the other parts of the series here: Part 1: th-cam.com/video/C_ODFlqURxY/w-d-xo.html Part 2: th-cam.com/video/Gkdt36SNc7Q/w-d-xo.html Part 3: th-cam.com/video/iIeq7LpfX88/w-d-xo.html
sunil Duggal I just saw all the 5 episodes, Great vedios, felt like i was travelling, will do so after worldwide lockdown is over. Will see all DW vedios
Hi @Sunil duggal, Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. We're so glad you enjoyed the series and that you're planning to check our more of our documentaries. :-) Let us know what you think! Best, The DW Documentary Team
Peoples within a few hundred miles should only visit once in their lifetime. People unintentionally destroy the ruins. It's something everyone should get to enjoy so limit the number of visitors yearly. By half or more. Sacred sight!
Reminds me of all the Hindu holy temples in the Himalayan mountains of India, Nepal, Tibet. All of the Shaman ideas and foundation is very similar in concept and reality to the Vedic principles of energy and life. Very Sad that the Inca civilization did not survive. Despite Islamic and European colonial slaughter of the past 1200 years, ancient Vedic and Hindu civilization managed to survive and maintain and propagate its true culture through centuries.
In Peru such as Cuzco,Interoceanic Highway was the Peruvian Equivalent of Kennon Road,Halsema Highway and Marcos Highway in the Philippines because it was distinct resemblance of Andes Mountains with Cordillera Mountain Ranges and the road are much unique hairpin turns but hazardous due to fogs
I’m so glad been to Lima, Cusco and of course Mitchum Michu in 2016, wonderful places to visit. But I must say they need limit numbers of tourist, I felt I’m like visiting a Disneyland lol.
I wish that as a soundtrack you had played the Villa-Lobos piece, "The Little Train of the Caipira" about a little train in Brazil going through the Amazon jungle. It's beautifully fitting.
The issue of Machu picchu's overuse is easy to solve. What you do is you radically raise the price. You'll end up with the same revenues but many fewer visitors.
The Inca way of life is so similar to Hinduism, natives of north america, same concept of energy and energy lines, existence of ports on earth that help you travel the universe, mountain gods etc...nature worship is incredible, so peaceful!
They told us Machu Picchu cost $100 to enter in 2011. It was already a mass tourism site, so that coupled with the price, was just not worth it. There are many other seldom explored gems in Peru, but alas I am not permitted in return due to sanctions imposed on me because I and my girlfriend, bought a traditional charango in Cusco from a well known artisan, made with traditional armadillo shell. Upon leaving the country in the airport, security stole the $300 charango, and sent me a letter of sanctions for attempted animal parts smuggling. Its sad that Peru is so traumatized by resource exploitation that a tourist looking to support the traditional artisanal culture is threatened with incarceration. I still love Peru though. Especially huayno music and cuy!

Visiting Machu Pichu definitely needs crowd control. Maintaining a limited number of people that can visit the place in a guided tour (i.e. tourist not damaging anything) will help in preserving this historic site.

I think he means the environment of the Andes mountains are similar to the Himalayan mountains in Nepal.
Leo el Teniente except for the beaches (nepal is a landlocked country), everything looks very similar. Even the people!
Hello friend greetings from Perú.
The Incas were an amazing civilization. It would be very interesting if DW did a documentary on them and how they related to their neghbours.

That new road to Cusco reminds me of the Georgian military highway in the Caucasus mountains.
Instead of shows about picking through junk, the Discovery network should have a show about the adventures of Daniel Mancilla, what a great guy.

I won't say that they're tourists, they're travellers. And there's a huge difference between the two.
