    As an ex-BBC TV producer and journalist, I have lived and worked in 17 countries and Dubai police really are amongst the best there are. They are very professional in my opinion and they are very fair in the way the handle people. Sadly I do have one gripe which sad to say will always stick with me. I had a disabled wheelchair bound friend visiting and he carries an International disabled notice (which includes Arabic) to use in a car. We went to MOE and with little spaces available we parked in the disabled spot and displayed the notice, I got his wheelchair out and helped him from the car and we did the tourism thing in MOE. I got a hefty fine and my car was impounded . The security people said the policeman never got out of the car to look at any notice. I always see Porsches and Range Rovers parked in disabled parking and I see apparently healthy young men and women get out of the cars and walk away. Do they ever have their Porsche impounded I wonder. This is an event that will stick with me.

      As I have been living here for the past 23 years, I can definitely say this: like all countries, uae has a little bit of corruption in the police, 98% of them are super awesome and kind and caring, but the 2% are what residents here call fine hungry, basically they will seek every opportunity to fine anyone and everyone except rich people. Henceforth I am a little nervous putting this comment out.

      A couple of years ago , I remember this policeman fined me for being a minute late to putting another parking ticket as I was approaching the car to replace the old ticket. Such a bummer and he insisted I get fined despite showing him proof that I paid for another ticket for the parking lot 😑

      The problem with fines is that someone earning $200,000/year will feel the pain of the fine a lot less than someone on $50,000/year. Fines should not be an amount but a percentage of income.

    In my area, red light cameras were deemed unconstitutional because the owner of the cars were being charged with running a red light when it wasn't always the owners driving. I'm not sure if the state fixed that or not.

    • @DozIT
      @DozIT 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      AllAmericanGuy01 here in Ontario, Canada we (owner of vehicle) get a $350 fine and NO demerit points for that reason. You can chose to fight in court but you are legally required to identify the driver in court, which opens room for the ~$600 fine and demerit points.

    • @fuckgoogleforever
      @fuckgoogleforever 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      ReadyToGo That's also protected under our constitutional rights, they can't force us to identify somebody. I'm assuming you live in Pennsylvania? We have the same issue, so far the best conclusion was they post a sign stating that the red light camera will take your picture if you run it.

    • @zemzem8323
      @zemzem8323 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      AllAmericanGuy01 - here in NJ they deemed all red light cameras unsafe and all have been deactivated. There have been less accidents at the intersections where people used to slam on their brakes to prevent a red light ticket in the mail.

    • @brandond6700
      @brandond6700 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope. Same in MO all redlight cameras were required to be taken down.... Mainly because the judge ruled them as an unnecessary reason to increase revenue and it violates our rights..... The same city where our inital law suit was also got sued for pulling people over for flashing headlights to warn other drivers of police ahead... Didnt end well for the PD in that instance either

    some of those fines might be easily payable by people who earn lots. not practical but if they could fine based on one's income would be savage. just saying.

  • @Yaba414
    @Yaba414 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    In Sweden they revoke the license. No compromise in road safety.

    • @impoppy9145
      @impoppy9145 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sweden laws are stupid. They revoke your license even if you're not driving the car(If you walk on the street while drunk for example). They just love to steal from their people. And for the record in 2019 they made a "law" that everybody over 18 have to pay 130 euros every year for what they call "TV-services". Even if you don't own a TV. Just learn from Germany. They have safe roads and Unlimited speed on the Autobahn.

    • @Yaba414
      @Yaba414 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      ImPoppy you lost me at stealing then you had me back again at Autobahn.
      First things first; what you mentioned about drunk walking, is only applicable if you obstruct other paths for bicycles, vehicles. Now if you call teaching an expensive lesson “stealing” I and many other would not.
      Second of all, if the driving license applicant in the UAE (or other countries with high accidents rate) would undergo the same tests and get the same practices a parallel applicant takes and gets in Germany, I then, would say it’s safe to try having an autobahn in the desert.
      The UAE is doing an amazing job with their campaigns on road safety, they’re providing some of the best roads in the world yet many drivers do not respect the law.

    • @Yaba414
      @Yaba414 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      ImPoppy totally forgot about the TV services “Radiotjänst”
      Which record are you referring to? Yes the law is there but if you can prove that you don’t own a tv you don’t have to pay. I lived my last 2 years in Sweden not paying since I got rid of my TV screen. There are a bazillion ways to avoid paying it. You probably got ripped off by an aggressive radiotjänst representative. And I don’t see the problem in paying for the service if you were to actually use it.
