    Yes you guys were right, Gale Weathers is played by Courteney Cox. Fun fact is that she and David Arquette who played Deputy Dewey fell in love during this film and ended up being married for a while and had a daughter. They Divorced a few years ago, but remain friends and scream has a special place in my heart because it brought them together.

    Fun fact: When Stu gets hit in the back of the head by the phone, that was accidental. Skeet threw the phone directly at Matt and Matt responds with the line "you hit me with the phone, dick!". What Matt said was ad-libbed and Wes Craven kept it in the movie cause he loved it. Also I think Courtney Cox said that this was when her and David fell in love due to being in the movie together. I suggest watching it a few more times and pay attention to the facial expressions and body language for Stu and Billy. Gives away that they were the ones killing people, plus the part where Stu's ex was the first one killed in the beginning of the movie. Stu and Billy were in constant communication by phone cause they had to pick up the bodies and hang them and Billy says to Stu "I thought you said she was dead" referring to Gail crashing the van and Billy would only have known that by Stu talking to him by phone.

    I love watching Scream this time of year, I went 10 years between seeing it and forgot the ending but now the last 4 years I always have to rewatch.
    David Arquette who plays Dewey actually got married to Courtney Cox and her name in the Friends credits started to come up Courtney Cox-Arquette.

      I’ll always remember the very first episode of Friends in which Courtney appeared with her name changed as the opening credits featured all 6 of the main casts’ names with -Arquette at the end. As in, Jennifer Aniston-Arquette, Lisa Kudrow-Arquette, David Schwimmer-Arquette, etc. It was a pretty cute little gag.

      Yeah, the slasher genre was all but considered dead around the mid-90s. When 'Scream' dropped with its meta approach it gave it new life because the killer was mortal but smart and the potential victims were working off their knowledge of the genre itself to attempt to survive. It's also a well written teen drama/mystery film as well, which keeps it from having the exploitation feel of all its ripoffs since...

    You guys should _definitely_ check out *”I Know What You Did Last Summer”* (Another pretty dope teen slasher film from right around this time!) and _then_ revisit *”Scary Movie”* because while, yes, they _do_ parody *”Scream”* quite a bit in it, it also plays on the story/plot from *”I Know What You Did Last Summer”* a _lot._ So watching that first will make your *”Scary Movie”* viewing _that much_ more fun/enjoyable! (Plus, like I said, you’ll have a _great_ time watching *”I Know What You Did Last Summer”* as it’s a really fun movie in it’s own right!)
    Also, now that you guys have seen the very first *”Scream”,* y’all have _gotta_ check out all of it’s sequels!! While none of them are _quite_ as good as the OG film, in my personal opinion (As well as in the opinion of _most_ *”Scream”* fans, I would say.) the rest of them are _still_ pretty high quality and, overall a _hella_ good time!! So, yeah for sure please _also_ check out 2, 3, 4, & 2022! I, for one, would absolutely _love_ to see all of y’all’s reactions to all of them! 😊

    At most, Billy looks like young Johnny Depp.

      Personally, I’d like to add _”The Faculty”_ and _”Halloween: H2O”_ to your list (And
      _”Scream”,_ obviously, which you already inferred.) when discussing “Best Teenage Halloween Movies Of The 90s”! (As a matter of fact, I’d also probably include
      _”The Rage: Carrie 2”_ as well, even though it’s not quite as solid as the others and is just a touch… _off,_ LOL, especially when compared to the others. Still, it’s *hella* fun and *hella* 90s, _and_ packed full of “teens”! LOL! Still, I’d really only include it if you’re looking to round your list out to 6, super fun, 90s Teen Horror Films!
      Also, while I totally respect your choice to say that that the _”Scream”_ sequels don’t need to be included, I personally vehemently disagree as I absolutely *LOVE* _every_ film in the franchise! (Though they definitely _don’t_ work if you’re trying to include them in the “90s/Teen” category. Buuuut _”Scream 2”_ 100% fits within those perimeters, and, if you’re gonna include _it,_ you should _absolutely_ also include _”I Still Know What You Did Last Summer”._ Even though, overall, it’s pretty fuckin’ dumb, it’s _also,_ overall, pretty fuckin’ dope! LOL!
      So, there you have it! My two cents! LOL! You’re welcome!! 😂

    • @dawb86
      @dawb86 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It's not a "parody" of slasher films, it's a satire. The difference is in the intention. Parodies tend to play everything for laughs whereas satire is a commentary on the flaws/shortcomings of the subject being discussed. For example, just because the characters know the rules of surviving a horror film doesn't mean they automatically will here; you still have to play everything smart or you can and in a few instances WILL die. It's the reason none of the countless ripoffs that came out after 'Scream' have come anywhere near its high level of execution. They all ultimately fell victim to those same flaws...

    • @xtronvultron4811
      @xtronvultron4811 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@dawb86 facts Scream is a satire not a parody, and yeah Scream did make fun of those horror cliches and tropes, but it also showed that Just because you know the rules to surviving a horror movie, doesn’t mean that you will survive, I mean look at what happened to randy, that’s what I’ve always loved about Scream, is that it makes fun of the horror genre, while also showing realistic attributes in their movies, and I think it works well knowing that Scream takes place in the “real world” and yeah the Scream rip offs could never touch Scream, because they just fall flat in the end to the same cliches, that it tries to make fun of.

    • @dawb86
      @dawb86 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@xtronvultron4811 A perfect example to me was 'I Know What You Did Last Summer.' Williamson (the same writer here) should NOT have killed Sarah Michelle Gellar's character off in that film. With that movie being one of the first released in the wake of Scream's success, he should/could have better bypassed what became the instant new convention/predictableness of the genre by making Sarah's character the lone female survivor in the end. Her role would be considered closer to Tatum than Sidney personality wise but she's more interesting than the Julie character and it would've struck with nearly the same amount of surprise because Jennifer Love Hewitt is expected to survive from the jump since Helen was the 'sidekick.'

  • @dancerkris95

    Three things that I love about this franchise:
    1. Ghostface is an actual human person who's killing people. It's not like a Freddy Krueger, Jason, or Michael Myers. Scream is something that can actually happen in real life, and that's what makes it relatable and frightening. That's actually how Kevin created "Scream" by basing the plot loosely on the 1990 case of the Gainesville Ripper.
    Making Ghostface somewhat clumsy also made it a realistic human. (Also, the robe is very easy to trip over.) I love the mystery of who done it.
    2. The self-awareness and rules about horror movies and how Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson play on it.
    3. Typically, in horror movies, it's always the killer that continues on the franchise with a whole new cast to kill off. But in Scream, it's the opposite. It's the "final girl" who carries on the franchise who's fighting against different killers who are portrayed as Ghostface.
    - it's interesting with Ghostface how he seems intimidating and unkillable when hiding behind the mask. But once it comes off for the revealing, it's like he or she becomes vulnerable and then ends up getting killed. It's kind of like how people hide behind computer and phone screens they come off as aggressive and intimidating, always picking a fight. But then, when it comes to dealing one on one in person exposed they become complete opposite and are actually weak.

    I love that whole scene when Randy (Jamie Kennedy) was watching Halloween by himself and telling Jamie Lee Curtis to turn around that he's behind you lol. Wes wanted to be creative with playing with their really names. He was telling himself that he Jamie needed to turn around lol. The way Wes Craven creates those little things is amazing and brilliant!
    - Also, I don't know if you caught on to it but the whole last 30ish mins everything that was happening around the house it was perfectly mirroring with what was happening in Halloween lol. The bedroom scene with Sid/Billy, the background music and noices from Halloween when Dewey was in the house searching, Randy on the couch by himself and Sidney yelled out at the same time as Laurie screamed in Halloween which ended up saving Randys life lol, Laurie hiding in a closet as Michael was stabbing through and Sidney also in a closet and stabbed Billy.

    +Times6ix I know this is 6 months late BUT just wanted to tell you..THE REASON SCREAM BLEW PEOPLE’S MIND was because of the poster to the movie featured Drew Barrymore one of thee biggest actresses at the time. And the movie opened with her death scene. And people were mind blown!
    Basically picture a horror movie of today with a bunch of lesser known actors in the cast but then someone like Millie Bobby Brown, Sadie Sink, or Emma Watson (a super famous actress on the rise whom everyone adores) being front and center in all the trailers and posters and press interviews…but then they die the very first scene of the movie. It was like that but an even bigger deal because it’s never been done before and Scream transcended horror because it got people who were not into horror to go see it.
    Ontop of that it was a horror mystery that actually wasn’t predictable and kept you guessing. Which is why the franchise is still successful to this very day. Because they know the perfect time to subvert expectations and when to go the slightly more obvious route truly playing the audience like a fiddle.

    A little backstory of how Scream got created.
    Kevin Williamson wrote the story, originally titled Scary Movie, and based the plot loosely on the 1990 case of the Gainesville Ripper. It was a string of murders in a small town... Then it was changed to "Scream" cause the Ghostface costume was a close resemble to the Scream painting. The Ghostface costume was originally going to be all white but Wes Craven said it was to much like the KKK so he did the black robe with white face. Kevin wanted to create a story that has horror but also with some comedy of making it a self aware with the horror universe. But also use a relatable story that truly happened as a base line. So many Directors wanted to be apart of it there was even a big bidding war. He chose Wes Craven cause he was the only one who truly understood the story and his vision. Kevin wrote majority of the franchise and Wes Craven directed all of the Scream movies except for "Scream 2022" and "Scream 6". He died after making the 4th.
    The title of "Scary Movie" ended up being used for the parody movies since Kevin didn't use it. The 1st Scary Movie was about Scream, Scream 2, I know what you did last summer, the Blair witch project, Urban Legend, the sixth sense, The usual suspects, the Matrix, a very brief Dawson's Creek. .

  • @dancerkris95
    @dancerkris95 ปีที่แล้ว

    Fun Facts:
    - So when Tatum said to Dewey that the janitor is your superior, it's true cause the janitor at the school that was dressed as Freddy Krueger was Wes Craven who directed Scream-Scream 4 lol.
    - So before Scream came out, the caller ID was not popular at all. The caller I.D. sales in the U.S. tripled after Scream was released, lol.
    - Billy AND Stu were at Casey's and used their girlfriends as Alibis for being out. Stu was on the patio with Steve while Billy was in the front, tormenting her on the phone. The question about "Which door am I at" was a trick question. Stu ran to the front door to let Billy in. You could hear the front door open before she went outside through the kitchen. Also, when her parents got home the front door was open. When her mom was hearing Casey breathing on the other end of the phone line, you can hear one talking to another saying "tree," and the phone ends. Also, when Steve was tied up, he was looking at both directions of the house.
    - Wes Craven lol to get his actors into character emotionally like Drew Barrymore (Casey) and Neve Campbell (Sidney) right before he start to film he would run up to them and tell them something terrifying. With Drew Wes Craven would tell her real-life stories of animal cruelty to bring out her emotions then he would run off set and yell action, lol.
    - Roger L. Jackson was the voice of Ghostface for all of Scream movies. For every film, the actors were never allowed to meet him before or see him during filming, so that way, when they were on the phone with him, it would give them that real fear effect. Wes Craven always kept him hidden from the others to where they couldn't see him, but he was still able to see them. He also improved a lot of his lines as well.
    - Neve Campbell was originally going to say "no" to the film as she is especially afraid of horror movies. But when hearing her co-star Skeet Ulrich from The Craft (1996) was going to appear, she agreed. They did both movies back to back that same year.
    - They casted Skeet Ulrich as Billy Loomis and gave him the same kind of hair style cause of how close he looked like young Johnny Depp in Nightmare on Elm Street who also climbed in through a bedroom window. His last name, Loomis, is a reference to Dr. Loomis in Halloween.
    - Also when he climbed through her window, the first time "Fear the Reaper" was playing. He climbed through her window to distract her and turned on her stereo to cover up the background noise of Stu kidnapping her dad. If notice he was wearing the same outfit at the end.
    - The news lady that was harassing Sidney "how does it feel to almost being butchered" is Linda Blair from the Exorcist.
    - If look really closely when Billy was "stabbed" in the bedroom, you can see Stu adding the fake blood onto the knife before wiping it off.
    -Casey's comment about Nightmare on Elm Street about how the first was good, but the rest sucked. It's because Wes Craven only did the first one and didn't direct all of the other ones, lol.
    -Kenny actually saved Sidney in his literal final moment AFTER his throat got slashed. He pointed to the back and told her "door" so she could crawl out.
    - Ghostface in the bathroom was a prank on Sidney it wasn't either Billy or Stu.
    - Rose McGowan(Tatum) was actually able to fit through the cat door. They had to staple her shirt to the door cause she kept falling out. Also, just before her head got smashed in, she herself added, calling out "mom," and Wes loved it and kept it in cause it gave her last moments of humanity. Rose also picked out her own outfits for her character. The jersey she wore with #10 was also a reference to Johnny Depp in Nightmare on Elm Street.
    - When Billy hit Stu in the head with the phone, it was an accident on Skeets part. The fake blood was so sticky and ended up hitting Matthew Lillard instead of the desk, and his "Oww You hit me with the phone D***" was a real reaction to it. Wes loved it as well, so he kept it, lol. Matthew also improved most of his kitchen scene with his lines, like with "Houston, we have a problem," "the peer pressure," and the comment about his parents going to be so mad, lol.
    - That WHOLE kitchen scene took 5 days to film because of the amount of high energy that was used as well with the fake blood (corn syrup dyed red).
    - Neve Campbell and Matthew Lillard actually started dating while filming Scream and were together for almost 3 years. So that whole "I've always had a thing for you, Sid" was true, lol. He originally auditioned for Billy, but the casting didn't believe that someone like Neve/Sidney would date someone like him, lol. So he ended up getting Stu, and Skeet got Billy cause of his look alike to Johnny Depp. The funny thing is that even though the casting thought that about Matthew, they ended up dating real life anyway 😂 They talk about that sometimes at the conventions.
    - When Billy got stabbed with the umbrella the 2nd time, it actually hit Skeet, where he had heart surgery when he was younger, so that scream he let out was his real action to the pain.
    - Drew Barrymore was supposed to play Sidney. But she ended up changing her mind and she herself went to Wes with an idea to have her as the open kill cause no one would expect it. Also, it would show if they could kill off a huge star right off the bat it would mean NO ONE was safe. It was the BIGGEST surprise shock effect for the audience cause they assumed she would be the leading character and they played into the with the publicity.
    -Even though Billy was at Sidneys for the attack. It was actually Stu who she fought with when he was tripping up the stairs. You can hear ghostface saying "easy" "easy". The next day at the lockers, he was checking his face in Tatums mirror for any bruises, and when Tatum was hitting him with her sucker he says "easy" "easy.
    -Billy was always 1 handed with his killing if he had a knife, if didn't he resorts to choking except for Tatum he used the opportunity with the garage door. He gave a signal look to Stu at the front door that Tatum was dead. Stu uses both hands when using the knife and resorts to other tactics if he doesn't have a knife like the both times he fought Sidney.
    -Stu was the one that called Dewey about the abandoned car and also called Randy about the principal after the whole "I'll be right back." Billy killed the principal so they could use him as a deploy for later that night to get the rest of the guests to leave so the real party could begin.
    - Dewey was supposed to die in this one, but Wes Craven and everyone just loved David Arquette and how he played his character. They all fell in love with him, so at the end, Wes had Dewey do the thumbs up to show the audience that he survived

      This is honestly kind of why I dislike scary movie tbh, it ruins Scream for people, the parody isn’t even in the same league as Scream, and if wasn’t for Scream, scary movie wouldn’t even exist, and this problem happened with 2 other reactors that I’ve seen react to this Movie, they watch scary movie first and this same stuff happens.

    The first scary movie is a combination of scream one screen to know what you did last summer and a couple others. In the first two scary movies were done by The Williams Brothers. Every one after that has been trash mostly. That had to do with the fact that the franchise was stolen from them.

    I'm with the guy on the left in regards to Sinister. Horror fans love that movie and based on word of mouth and it's imdb score, I was expecting much better than what I watched. Thought it was just a bad movie with cheap jump scares and forgettable, annoying characters.

    It's called scream because of the mask and the painting scream by EDVARD MUNCH. It was originally gonna be called SCARY MOVIE.

    "First time watching but we were aware enough of this franchise as teenyboppers that we went Halloweening in the Scream costume with the fake blood pumper."
    Yeah. Totally makes sense.

      Right, because Ghostface isn’t an iconic costume or anything. I mean, I dressed as Jason one year before ever seeing a Friday the 13th movie, but whatevs.
