They actually cast Melissa McBride as Carol because of her part in The Mist. Before this, she was actually a casting director who only appeared in small roles here and there. But because of her performance in this, they thought she'd be perfect for Carol specifically because of the Sofia storyline.
Pat being so mad at the people who talked a big game as if he wouldn’t be one of the first to get eaten because he thinks he can fight the monsters off with his bare fists 🤣
Fun fact: The main character in this movie was going to be the original Rick Grimes. But his schedule conflicted at the time so they chose Andrew Lincoln. Frank Darabont likes to work with the same group of actors on all his projects.
@moviescatsmargs Why...? He would have been great. H is a very versatile actor. Happy he didn't though as he would have been locked up for so many years and we wouldn't have gotten him in The expanse.
@XSpiegel it's less about Jane and more about Lincoln. There's something about Lincoln's eyes, he looks dangerous but also detached. Like he's broken and can't feel emotion anymore, which works for the character because Rick is constantly battling giving into his worst intentions. With Jane, I can see all of his emotions on his face. He's not really a subtle actor so big performances, like in The Mist, work for him.
Fun fact: In Stephen Kings IT, Pennywise came from another dimension called the Macroverse, thousands of years ago. The creatures in the Mist also came from another dimension after the government opened a portal during the Arrowhead project. There’s a very good chance that that dimension was the Macroverse considering the fact that most, if not all, of Stephen Kings books are connected. That would mean these monsters and IT are from the same place. Very interesting.
Yeh, thought I read somewhere that it's connected to world of "The Dark Tower" too. I forget the book, one about the people digging up an alien spaceship and the ghosts of the dead aliens possessing them, but all his King's stories seem to take place in Maine and in one chapter a characters had visions of Pennywise, a vampire from Salem's Lot, Randall Flagg and other monsters/characters from his other horror books.

You have to hand it to the woman who was determined to get back to her kids. She had some iron balls, and she actually made it to her kids as well. Then again, that’s Carol from “The Walking Dead,” so those creatures clearly knew better than to try that shit with her.

Something I really enjoy about this movie is that it’s like “Watch people turn against each other!” But really, it’s like, dog, it’s been 48 hours, can we not have a total break down of morals just yet? We’re already at child sacrifice? This shit literally just started. We don’t even know each others names yet enough to hate one another and we’re already forming sides and killing one another. Lol
People are saying the original ending was not as bleak, but it literally ends with the world being completely overrun with the Mist and humanity all dying, with an implication that the father was just happy to eventually die with his son.
Another thing I find interesting about this movie when I zoom my perspective out to a macro level is, you know how in super hero shows like Spiderman there are many situations where they accidentally open portals to other dimensions, even the movie Pacific Rim, and although things look bleak sometimes we usually see things from the perspective of the powerful hero of the movie. However the Mist, this movie shows you how normal people would experience the result of a portal opening up and allowing entities from it's dimension to invade us and we have nobody here with super powers.

You guys should watch The Mist Tv series. That would be fun, its only one season so it would go by pretty quick. Also this ending destroyed me as a kid, trauma. Also the line "Are you being Willfully Dense?" Has been a part of my normal speech since I was a kid.
Few things about the story/movie: - Carmody was right. Everything she said was true. "We want the boy!" They kill the boy, the mist clears. She was the villain, sure, but she was also 100 percent accurate with everything she said. - The army was driving the same direction the protagonists were. This means they already came from the Supermarket and most likely everyone within was rescued. - The movie was originally supposed to be in black and white. This would make the CGI less punishing and obvious.
I’m obsessed with the two people trying the beverage at the beginning! Now I’m wondering what they were drinking because they looked like they loved it.😂
This is my favorite horror movie. The ending is so insane, and I just always enjoyed the classic B movie vibe. By the way, Frank Darabont also released a black and white version, which I think also fits the vibe pretty well. That's worth a watch if anyone can find it imo.
This was not Kings ending in the book. Frank Darabont was the screenwriter and he changed the ending to this. Also he developed and executive produced The Walking Dead that is why you recognized some cast members from this movie were also in the walking dead. Do some research!
When the movie was at cinemas as premiere movie and no one know the ending people left the auditorium completely silent. Most of them was broken for many next hours or days.
It is a great movie and one of the best depictions of cosmic horror like Lovecraft described but with less racism. Also love that the cast is packed with folks who did so much work with Darabont. Sam Witwer was the zombie in the tank in TWD ep1, then all the folks from TWD. Toby Jones as the cool clerk who can handle a gun is awesome, just because he is British. I wish he lived.
@dwnkaomwn3953 Why not both? But obviously, john Carpenters one since it came out the same year, Kings book debuted. I do like the 2005 version aswell.
You guys should DEFINITELY watch/react to the French movie "Vermines" or "Infested" (english title). Seriously react to it with the French audio, eng subtitles. REALLY amazing infestation movie - WHOEVER IS ON THEIR PATREON, MAKE SURE TO SUGGEST IT!!
The picture that Drayton is working on - the cowboy holding a rose in front of a dark tower - made me throw out my neck in excitement. A Frank Darabont-directed series based on King's DARK TOWER books would be the best series ever. Literally ever.
The Dark Tower reference right at the top is one of my favorite in any Stephen King movie. Especially if you know the story of the Dark Tower, you know exactly why what's happening in this movie is happening. They opened a hole into the Todash darkness and that's where the monsters pour out from.
You need to watch this movie back to back with “Maximum Overdrive,” which works as an emotional pallet cleanser after “The Mist” and enables you to end things on a light note while sticking with the Stephen King theme.
"Something wrong with Stephen King". He actually did not think up of this ending and was an aspect of the movie adaptation and he actually loved the change.
Funny thing, he loved this change where the kid dies, but hated the change in Cujo where the kid lives. Stephen King might just hate children lol.
He wrote the kiddy kiddy gang bang at the end of IT, so the quote still applies
I personally prefer the King ending (for once) but this one works better for the movie.
Which makes the statement stand: Something wrong with Stephen King.
True. Also Something is wrong with Stephen King

that hopelessness can be wrong; and that this in itself could be worse
that hopelessness can have absolute cost in the face of hope unseen.

Priority B: kid doesn’t suffer/know he’s about to die
41:26 Carol survive!!!! lmao
ps. i could not believe you guys never saw this "good" movie before.
She always does, no matter the dumb decisions😭.
Top tier plot armor
Chris, that smile in the last scene was diabolical lolol
You guys should watch The Mist Tv series. That would be fun, its only one season so it would go by pretty quick. Also this ending destroyed me as a kid, trauma.
Also the line "Are you being Willfully Dense?" Has been a part of my normal speech since I was a kid.
23:08 "Don't shoot the kid!" .... 😬
Stephen King's ending just has them driving into the mist. King said he hated the movie ending, cos he wish he'd written it :)
Or maybe he isn't a psycho
Few things about the story/movie:
- Carmody was right.
Congrats Rana for the wedding 🎉🎉
I’m obsessed with the two people trying the beverage at the beginning! Now I’m wondering what they were drinking because they looked like they loved it.😂
This movie is a masterclass of tension building, and escalating dread. The ending stays with you for a while. Not many movies do that.
This is my favorite horror movie. The ending is so insane, and I just always enjoyed the classic B movie vibe. By the way, Frank Darabont also released a black and white version, which I think also fits the vibe pretty well. That's worth a watch if anyone can find it imo.
27:26 I like it when Rana starts cursing in Arabic ... That means she genuinely shat her pants 🤣
Thank God for Chris and spidey being in this. The evil laughter during the spider scene was perfect.
The end song is called the host of seraphim by dead can dance.
David kept his promise to his son - he didn't let the "monsters" get him.
"You better tell her your name's Christina."
The whole chat that starts at 33:00 had me in tears.
Pat: Pffft - there is nothing scary about a mist. Also Pat: I'M GOING TO CHURCH!!
Yall should watch "The Fog" 👀👀👀
Which one?
@dwnkaomwn3953 Why not both?
But obviously, john Carpenters one since it came out the same year, Kings book debuted.
I do like the 2005 version aswell.
@@dwnkaomwn3953 The one that's actually worth watching.
We ABSOLUTELY need pat and rana reacting to the casper movies 😂. maybe even marketta and spidey w/ them.
21:42 Is a great mirror moment with Navi and Spidey throwing their heads back as Pat is gobsmacked in the middle.
Very happy some of you recognized the Dark Tower. It was a deep cut, especially back in 2007.
The picture that Drayton is working on - the cowboy holding a rose in front of a dark tower - made me throw out my neck in excitement. A Frank Darabont-directed series based on King's DARK TOWER books would be the best series ever.
Literally ever.
Yep, in Kings original ending everyone in the car survived. The director changed the ending. And King liked this ending better.
I laughed so hard when I saw this ending. Especaily when he starts screaming and the soldiers look confused lol
Chris and Spidey might've had TOO much fun with this one, you love to see it!
omg Rana immediately turns into a psychopath the second there's a hint of a crisis
I would have been in the hospital or dead if this was a drinking game everytime Pat said "Mist"😂😂😂
I know it was a sad moment but I couldn’t stop laughing at Chris smiling at the reveal at the end.
Pat ruins every emotional moment in a reaction.
I can’t stand listening to his constant moronic gibberish. Incredibly obnoxious. Nothing of value would be lost if he never appeared again.
