Hey Brett! From another building professional here, I have to say the tile work is fantastic. I love the grain matching on the cabinets. Choosing high quality materials like the rock wool insulation, are super nice touches as well. You clearly have a talent for this. Keep it up!
Wow, hats off for this build. To do this (practically) on your own, respect. Great design on the out and inside! I would personally put the toilet and shower against the short rear. Place the murphy bed at the front with a fold-out dining/work table at the bottom (folds out when you fold the bed), plus fold-out chairs you can hang on the wall.
I really love this one! So sleek and uncluttered! The idea another commented for a folding table on the underside of the Murphy Bed is genius! As far as privacy, there are lots of unique cling films that would cover the glass wall! A tiny house is, ultimately, about using the space for the best function! My dream is to build a 12 X 20 using only recycled materials! And I am in total agreement with you on not building on a trailer! Very fine job, Sir!❤
Because he spent $10,000 on the toilet and glass walls and $3 on the living room tv and chair. You can tell which side of the house was built for entertainment......
Yes, it's a lot to take in :) I'd find a sleek modern one, maybe gray colored, & fit it in the shower. Like they do in RVs. This would make it less noticeable & add more useable LR floor space
I would tuck the toilet away in the corner. When i enter my home, i would not want to see a toilet upon entering. Not only that, i really dont like my bathroom and kitchen anywhere near each other. But since this space is small, the toilet for me has to be in the corner behind the door with tinted glass or the whole bathroom could be at the back of the house. That is just my preference. I like the overall design though.
Might as well have no walls in the toilet. I wouldn't fancy having a toilet in my living spade, especially as you see it the moment the front door opens, otherwise, great design.
It's always fun seeing how people design small living spaces. I would have a permanent bed and a computer desk, smaller shower. I like a lot about this design but having lived in a tiny home, I would want to design it myself to fit my own needs.
Yup, you need more space because when the flames are on high, the frying pan will stick over and deflect the flames right into the wall of the cabinet. I also need room for my fry pan's handle between the right burner and the wall, so someone passing through won't hit the handle by mistake. I won't be able to swivel the handle left if that burner is also being used. You have space to the left of the stove... Next time just center the stove in the space or move it next to the sink. A sink topper/cutting board would make up for lost counter space. Or you can get or install the stove with the handles on the right. That would give you the distance you need and I believe the pan's handle will swivel right over the stove's knobs? 💕🌞🌵😷
I would leave out sink in living room/bedroom as you have a sink in the kitchen, you could then use the space for hanging clothes storage. Also would put the toilet near the front door and make its surround solid so it cannot be seen then leave the shower as clear glass. Love the fact you left the natural wood. Good use of Murphy bed.❤
Less bathroom space, small sink with Toilet. Smaller shower space. With privacy walls. More kitchen counter. Stove, away from the wood. The layout is everything in a small space. And make it functional, duable, more open, and versatile...
Really well done. The details on lighting and the craftmanship is excellent. My only critique ( & this is only a healthy suggestion..because it is excellent) It would be, to not have the toilette with a clear glass . It does create space and it is wonderful for someone who has no guests but.most people would never use your toilet if they have to go in such an open area. Asthetically it is wonderful but, pragamatically the lack of privacy might turn off some people.
Really lovely home. Wonderful craftsmanship and I loved the lightness of it. For me personally, with such a small space it seems like a lot of square footage went towards the bathroom area which is where one spends the least amount of time. Also, he mentioned the space could be used by a couple, but there seemed to only be room for one chair? But again, it's a wonderful result and I'm guessing that if he keeps building more units he may decide to make some tweaks.
Frosted glass around the shower with a moveable composting toilet would save space. Agree with the comment about ditching the bathroom sink. Solar panels on the roof. Very small pellet stove would give a nice vibe and help take the cabin off grid. Excellent workmanship!
Would have put the toilet closer to the front door and let it share the same room space as the shower. This solves the problem of front door/water closet door opening conflict. If the toilet overflows, the overflow moves towards the shower drain instead of sitting on the floor. Would screen it with translucent glass to preserve light, remove the toilet from general view, and for sense of privacy when using it, especially from the front door.
Props to anyone who goes ahead and builds a tiny home, its cool to do a project like this. That said, I'm sooooo confused as to why he used glass in front of the toilet (kitchen and toilet with no visual block between them... 🤢) and such a small window in the main living area... not even a skylight right? It doesn't really make the best use of space and light imo.
Thanks for watching! Agreed, it’s pretty impressive he built this in his spare time! For the glass - we filmed the house before the bathroom glass was frosted to provide privacy :)
Some people, like myself, wouldn’t care and think the glass makes it feel more open. Also, it’s made for 1-2 people. Who’s going to be watching me poo? With this small of a house it’s common to build a deck outside, or have most of your entertaining spaces to be outside.
Well done job a simple idea.. was to put the little sink in the top the flash ( like Japaneses ones) the water can be used for the flash economy...)and the little mirror in the hall...BUT OVERALL IS A AMAZING BEAUTY SPACE...
I like it. The only thing I would change is the swing of the door. I worry that the doorknob will strike the glass and shatter. If the door swings the other way, it looks like it may hit the counter. But I'd rather have a straight entry than stepping around the swing of the door with my arms filled with groceries. Maybe the door just needs to open out. A door that opens out is also more secure. In your next build consider a covered porch as nobody likes fumbling at the front door with a bag of groceries in the rain. 💕🌞🌵😷
@@b_uppy , yup, but that's when I'm worried that the door might hit the cabinet... It's hard to see from this camera angle. But your right, if the hinge was on the other side it would be a straight entry and easier to get in with a load of groceries and you wouldn't have to worry about the doorknob hitting the glass. Sending lots of love 💕 from sunny 🌞 Arizona 🌵. Take care of yourself and each other 😷
@@suzisaintjames They have door bumpers that can be installed to protect the cabinet. Pretty sure there is enough clearance though, so it would be protecting the wall.
Idea is a cherry rail all the way around with enclosed small drawer on top. Like a spice rack. Each drawer has something you use, just not every day, like chocolates, spices, oils, candles, soaps, coffees, sugar, baking supplies, matches, money, whatever needs to be a part of home. I also suggest a couple packets of gu supplemental energy with vitamins. I think a bike garage/indoor parking slot is something that needs to be added. Maybe right outside the door to the right. A new idea!

Very nice tiny home, well done. You can get a type of glass electrically obscured instantly, in fact can select opacity level like dimming a bulb. Might be useful for the bathroom

Oh I love this! Not sure about having the vanity in the living room/bedroom though. They still have to leave the toilet area to wash up, i'd probably just use the kitchen sink, or put the vanity in the shower space, maybe put up a flip down floor in there too so they're not stepping down onto shower tile. I'd set this up with solar in an instant. Seriously, I can imagine a few of these on some property, he should buy some land and set a few up! $67,000 Canadian! Certainly affordable for many of us. 48k just for that seems high but when you think about it - it’s a whole darn house. So 48k is pretty reasonable considering most homes start at 300-350 k and even those are getting hard to find !’ So great job and I would t paint anything either !!!
I would add about 15' in length, put in a 36 or 40" built in refrigerator and solar to make it more off grid if I had a water source. Overall, it is nice and affordable for one person, but not for two of most people. I have always liked the concept of a Murphy bed though.
There's no way to get away from looking at the toilet no matter where you are in this tiny home. Sorry, but that's a real turnoff for me. I like much of the rest of the design though.
I could definitely live in something like this, but I'd probably use s.i.p.s for the bathroom walls and have a Japanese soaking tub and composting toilet.
Very neat & compact design. But clear glass for toilet cubicle was a mistake. I'd maximise the space by placing a seat at the back of the Murphy bed as the lounge along with a fold down table on the opposite wall? The price is too steep for this size home & is it certified for full time living?

Beautiful crafted mini home, however, think the sink in the bedroom/sitting room. No no for me, the other thing where’s the washing/dryer. Don’t think I saw a space for a fridge freezer, specially if you are there for a week or two at a time, great idea for a weekend home, it also could had been off grid.
0:03 From the reflection from the door it looks like it's built on someone's property, maybe a friends for family member. Also how does he receive snail mail?
I like a lot of what he did in theory, but the application was not the best. The shelf holding the speaker above the Murphy bed as an example is a good idea and can be made with plywood, but the size he used is too thin so its already bowing under the weight and is pretty much empty space that I'd be concerned about storing anymore up there. Another thing i think would annoy me is how the control post for the shower/toilet lights is so large and then compounding on that it sticks out beyond the change in glass profile from shower to toilet area. If that could be slimmed down to fit in that completely in that little corner, I think it would be a better result. With how small the space is, I dont understand why a second sink is even needed in the already cramped bed area. I dont think the cost justifies what you get with the end result, but i do think he has the potential if he adjusts some of his deaign choices based on logic and structural integrity.
