He was only a part of the squad and used at times because they needed an option as a target man, but he wasn't really half the player he was in the younger days. He always had the strength, but in the younger days he had the pace too, and that was important, was causing a lot of trouble to every defence and did a lot of work for his team mates. He was a starter for the NT for a few years back in the Liverpool days and was only barely making the squad later on, I think only when some other players were injured.
