Body language is completely natural and can be effective if done right but it can also make people seem stupid, out of control, or lacking in sophistication and elegance.
I noticed that! He's really internalized how to use body language. I've always spoken with my hands, but I've been using these to learn how to better match it to my own rhythm.
You can actually be extrovert and have social anxiety, while you can be an introvert and have this amazing body language, and being able to excellently communicate with other people, it’s just really depends.
I’ve been in US for 3 months and recently started watching your videos and I fell in love with them. Vinh you’re incredible. Your lessons help me to improve not only my vocabulary, but accent, speech and voice itself. Keep doing what you do. And I hope one day I will be on one of your performances!
Interesting how the wording also influences how his message is received: In the first bit he draws the attention to the negative aspects and tesults: "YOU (!) HAVE to learn".. "otherwise you won't be able to.. " In the second bit he focuses more on the positive aspects. He will lead through this and WE (!) will achieve something good. That's very eye opening actually.
Absolutely, but it's important to remember that we don't merely use body language to supplement verbal language - the two are intrinsically intertwined. Our body language influences our speech, just as our speech influences our body language. They are not separate activities, but rather a synchronized performance. People may shy away from using their bodies as tools for expression because they're simply not accustomed to it. Nonverbal communication can be as layered and nuanced as verbal communication, and in some cases, even more so. It's akin to learning a second language. Just as we don't consciously scrutinize every word that slips off our tongues - unless we're discussing something unfamiliar or under stress - the same applies to our body language. As we grow more comfortable with nonverbal expression, and thereby expand our nonverbal 'vocabulary', this process becomes second nature. You might even find it begins to impact your tone, volume, and pace, acting like an inbuilt metronome. And let's not forget, physically shifting your body can have direct effects on your physiological state. Constant movement can increase blood flow and core temperature, while slower movements can boost focus and blood pressure. Likewise, open gestures can enhance respiratory function, while more closed, focused movements may concentrate your vocal output. For example, when I'm talking to someone over the phone, I find myself needing to walk around or at least stand. There's no denying that some of these actions may seem exaggerated, but they are rooted in truth. Public speaking is indeed a full body exercise. Otherwise, why would we bother presenting in person rather than just playing a pre-recorded audio file on an empty stage?
@SympatheticMonster I would like to say, "THANK YOU," for such an in-depth reply! I also agree with all your po8nts because it is natural to see and feel how everything in our bodies work together to act out all processes.
It’s so much harder to project and be excited when you’re not moving your body. That’s the whole point of why he’s more engaging, because it comes naturally when you give your whole body to what you’re saying
On the first part, you could see this guy fighting his hands to not use body language. That just goes to show you that body language is a great communicator.
The premise of this extent is to expose yourself, your inner thoughts to the physical world as much as you can through expressions. Just expose yourself to the outer world. Not to keep those utter burdens in yourselves for being unexpressive. Express your inner things including your thoughts and expressions, split it out. To make yourself light which is essential for giving much energy to the world with which we're interacting. It makes you look determined and real in your conversations too.
Clear and straight to the point. I really liked this video on the importance of expressing yourself however your head movements (probably unconscious) made your movements less stiff. It reminds me of a speed date with a woman with no arms who would focus the majority of her energy into facial expressions. Great video.
Vinh is amazing Everything he says is just as useful as this You should check him out and apply what he's saying. Don't just let it sit at the back of your mind.
My mentor said to move as little as possible while being filmed so that I don’t seem nervous. I talk with my hands all the time. Think I’ll just be me and go with it. This seems so much more natural.
I was honestly able to pay more attention without his hands moving 🤔 both work but not having to pay attention to his hands moving helped. My focus and attention takes a lot more effort. Certain things that are engaging and helpful for most are a distraction for some. 🤷♀️ either way great presentation!
Its because gesturing helos understanding, and leaders need to express themselves clearly. So we associate "clear instruction" with "good instructioner", wich is actually a somewhat correct assocation.

Body language plays a part in speech that’s why so many voice actors if you see them behind the scenes are still physically acting it’s near impossible to get that level of emotion or get the right tone without body language it’s impossible to voice act and sound genuinely mad when you’re not physically acting mad idk what it is whether it’s psychological or just smth with how he we speak and how different body movements influence emotion but it’s a real thing you can look up for yourself
@@TitankroW What about the speech? You can use body language with out tone and emphasizing words. You can do it without body language, it is not required, you can look it up also. It just make it seem more like music in a movie seen. A seen can seem scary just by the music alone yet the same seen can seem like lovers. Thats nice. Personally ive been contradicting myself for a while or doing something similar to that, like for example being a leader , every time i find something that i can relate to which in turn makes me a better leader seems to contradict itself with another factor similar to it. Its pretty wierd tbh . Good video though :)
im not trying to dispute that body language is important but i actually observed a noticeable difference in speech between both examples. I think its possible that not only does body language enhance your speach, it also is a sign to yourself that you are comfortable and confident and you feel at ease and more lively. perhaps the effects of body language are magnified because the people who are comfortable with their body language tend to also be more confident.
I think this is why people say I make a good leader, when in fact, I absolutely would not. It is because I talk with my hands! Not literally, but I am very expressive with my hands when I talk naturally. My Mom always used to say it was the Italian in us.
The second one is how I usually talk, my friend even pointed it out once how I use my arms for a lot of expressions I make and it really helps getting your point through

I've been watching a ton of your video, excellent content. Fun fact, when I was taking college communication course they actively tried to teach us not to move our hands because it would be "distracting" to the listeners.
