  • The China National Space Administration has issued its requirements for upcoming lunar missions, and called on engineers and universities to produce the necessary technologies and equipment.
Included is the specifications for a 100-kg robot which can shovel moon dirt, employ a solar-powered device to bake the dirt into bricks, then stack the bricks.
The equipment will be used on the Change'-8 mission, launching to the lunar south pole in 2028.

Yes, this is what gives me hope. I've been waiting my entire adult life while NASA builds a rocket up to 80% then cancels, then restart...every time the project gets more expensive until it becomes unfeasible and canceled. US science has become a grift jobs scheme never intended to build or launch anything.

I believe it is a common feature of space agencies to farm out work this way. I have a school friend in Hong Kong who won a small piece of it with NASA. Many academic establishment would welcome such challenges. They get the fame, applicable research that actually benefit mankind, some financial funding and the space agency get the work done on the cheap. Chinese space agency will get a lot of support from the world universities.

Although it may sounds a little bit crazy, this proposition aims at fostering the creativity in engineering solutions for an ancient dream, the space colony, starting with the moon since it's closest to us. It should start with surveying the different mineral s that are available within the dedicated landing zone. Then, it is possible to melt metals or at least hardened certain clayish soils to make brics. Artificial intelligence and all sciences should benefit directly from this project, instead of building up an arsenal to threaten the world. China should actually invite partners like the Russians or North Korea or Iran, people they can trust won't undermine the project. Mineral explorations to use for the colony is an essential step toward concretizing the inhabitation of the moon. Personally I think it should lead to building a nuclear reactor, because the energy that it can provide is permanent and long lasting. Once done, the nuclear reactor can be used to build science and research development centers and factories...

@@sportsonwheelss Because the moon receive the sun cyclically of it's night and days. Although the sun is always present, I need battery storage for times when the sun is out. Building around atomic energy is not foolish and would have spared us some griefs going green. Just like any problems, it needs reflection, time and resources to undergo perfection. Fusion reactors are micro suns in themselves and we should not give up research and development in that sector as the future of space travel depends on it, the further we step out from the sun's orbit.
