It might just be metabolic, I was over exercising, under eating and not getting enough carbs which resulted in several nutritional deficiencies etc (thought I was being healthy at the time) unknowingly I was putting my body in a catabolic state which will cause the body to stay awake and alert, as it is meant to. Think about what you are doing and what messages you are sending to your central nervous system via the way you eat exercise and live...you might be putting your body in survival mode and its simply doing what its meant to be doing. It took me a long time to work out, I had put myself in a form of metabolic burn out. I did a sleep study, sleep hygiene, saw various sleep experts...they all missed this and the treatments offered were not relevant for what I was experiencing.
I hope this helps some people out there, it can be very frustrating particularly when you don't know why it is happening.

If everyone else missed this problem, how did you figure it out?

Almost my entire childhood I was a Lucid Dreamer. I controlled all my dreams and it was a blast. As I started to drink alcohol on a regular basis I didn’t realize I lost my lucid dreaming but I developed a lot of sleep paralisis by morning. I would love the feeling of falling through my matress until I would hit bottom and my nerves would JOLT me up. Sometimes almost out of bed. Most of the time I could do it again. Fast forward to 2009 I no longer drank and I needed Clonidine to fall asleep. I had many sleep deprived nights as I also became a CPAP patient. I haven’t felt rested since 2010. Everyday I carry very tired eyes and trying to control a short temper. I’ve tried everything but running a business in todays day and age that depends on Employees will keep anyone awake. If I could end the business I would for Health Sakes alone. I love what I do but employees have really become different in the past 10 years. It use to be running a restaurant was tough but that’s the easy part now. We all get along fine but no one cares or should I say takes responsibility and we pay them more than ever. last Vacation 1998.

I would like to propose that in your study it could possibly be the feeling of success of completing a task that attributes to the sleep right before bed?

When insomnia destroys your life, and at 55 it threatens to kill you in many ways, you will die or fight to stay alive. Severe depression, anxiety and insomnia are lethal. This talk does not cover this. A couple nights with no sleep is a discomfort. Two weeks at a time is suicidal to end the burn.

I've been having the worst insomnia for 4 years. It is brought upon if I have something important the next day. I've tried to accept it and let time pass i.e. by not taking sleeping pills and telling my self if I don't sleep oh well. However I am going 3/4 days without sleep and working and I feel wrekced any advice?
