Lightning F.6 has made a crazy revival recently and I’ve seen a lot of positive video content surrounding the F.6. This is just another thing to add to the list of awesome features this plane has. Solid video.
There is some very interesting documentation about the all aspect capabilities of Red Top available. It’s situational, but definitely more capable than it is currently especially against non afterburning targets.
Yea I had a few headon kills with the redtops as well, but i also had a radar-lock doing so. And I sure this thin is faster than the F-104s it faces; at least i could always outrun them at 6000m and below, not sure about the Milan, those things never try to chase anything other than the 1st base drop...
The lightning is certainly an interesting aircraft, it's ability to super cruise and the limited all aspect capabilities make it quite interesting at 9.3. Glad to see it's back from the dead since the introduction of premiums like the A-10, SU-25 and A-6E.
video 4 of congratulating lee on having the best outro music on youtube honestly, the Lightning I think is my favourite 9.0-9.3 plane right now, you have such a performance advantage over almost anything you see, even in a semi-uptier. The MiG-21MF is probably the most difficult thing to deal with cause it will happily sit behind you, but still, solid plane regardless. also funny missiles go brr, i didn't know you could use Red Tops head on also also you should play the Jaguar GR.1A, it has this miraculous ability to point the nose absolutely anywhere you want it to, even if it doesn't turn that well lol. weird sensation, you can have the nose like 30 degrees off to the side but you're still going forwards. very fun once you get used to it. and stupid missile rails on the top of the wings too lol
I was kinda sad to miss out on the Lightning F6 when it left the shop. Especially after playing a bit on the Javelin, which also gets the Rat Top. It seems really solid to slap oblivious players, who sit on afterburner the entire game.
As you said this vehicle is really rare to see it may not be meta but its definitly fun to fly. It shows that britain tech tree have some cool and unique vehicles to offer that a lot of players miss out on.

I always give this thing a wide berth when I'm in my 104 just because I know its one of the few things that can match me for speed. Haven't encountered enough of them to know about the pseudo all-aspect nature of the red top though!
I was thinking of skipping the Lightning and going straight for the tornado but with how the match maker is now and this plains BR it is probably worth playing !!!
So the lighting is still capable even with the missiles spam (like aim 9d/g, r60/m)? Anyway it seems pretty fun to play in a down tier like a better f104 + the 30mm are fine compared to the 20mm with real shatter
On the Sea vixen the rockets can be used to lead the missile in a head on against a non afterburning target, it's not always reliable but it works quite a lot. I'd assume the same could be done with the Lightning f56 as well
The Lightning is legit one of my favourite jet fighters ever made, i think it looks really cool. I'm also kinda sad i never had the chance of buying the premium variant, with its cursed rocket pods, cause i was on a war thunder break then. Also it can supercruise on the deck, which is another cool feature for its BR.
Don't forget the French BR 8.3 S.O.4050 Vautour IIN (late) that has a nice little surprise like this .....kind of. Also the Sea Vixen has the Redtop and Firestreak AAM but its also ay a lower BR than the Lightning F6 and its a BR 8.7 and to bad they stopped selling the premium version of the Lightning F.53 that comes in at random times for sale.
not sure when they'll start modelling aircraft skin temperatures, but the fact that the sea vixen gets 4x of these red tops and sees 7.7 makes me glad for the recent missile drag changes at least
@GeneralLee2000 if it makes you feel any better, the R-60M, forced on even 12.0 russian planes, also doesn't have enough range to hit a target from 1.5km or greater when fired from the rear. (re. your comment on the poor range of the redtop at 9.3) :)
Drag changes hit alot of missiles really bad. The r23t feels pretty bad at range now if a target maneuvers. Missiles with short burn times really got hit hard by these changes
Fighting Lighting in a Mig15 is kinda frustrating xD. They are faster, have pretty good missiles and, like you said, sometimes can pull some weird maneuver. Like always, very nice video :)
Cool thing about it is that it can reach supercruise at sea level. I really like her, if just the snail hadn't messed up the missiles. Before the last missile rework red tops had a larger range/ longer boost time.
They defenetly have less range than aim9b, its just that they can be fired from side or even all aspect when range is not as important so it may seem quite simmilar.
I feel like the Lighting was a better plane when it came out a bunch of years ago but it still competes at its br. But as you said, it doesn’t perform well in a full uptier againts all-aspect missles
I have to say I really miss when red tops actually worked for the short time after the Sea Vixen came out on sale, but I guess the sales dried up so gaijin dont care about fixing up the missile thats only on 2 planes to make them actually useful. (I had the same issue of unable to get to the target when launching from directly above people moving at 400m/s before at a couple of km) From what I have read, its massively underperforming vs IRL, its worse than the SRAAM. The missile was in use up to 1988, if it was this bad it would have been replaced by any of the other missile systems developed/put into use at some point lol.
lightnings are underrated. However, the video title is worng, the vautour interceptor has radar missiles which are all aspect missiles at 8.7. it still is a great video, keep up the quick schedule
I'm done grinding USA and Most of USSR. GB has gone up only till Rank IV. when I get there I will check this vehicle. But for some reason I'm pulled towards Germany rather than playing GB for the most part.

Kinda crazy how this it at 9.3 when the j35a is 9.7 with worse missiles and less thrust, it's in no way a bad plane but it gets oppressed by the 9.7-10.7 premium hell zone and falls more in line with this br and it would keep it from constant uptiers imo. Oh well, can only hope for a br revision once the economy stuff is all put in place

It's wild how large the afterburners are for so a low BR. It also seems like it has good thrust in general.
This plane was so ahead of its time. It was capable of going mach 1.... Flying vertically.

When the red top was added back in the day it was great nowadays its a generaly good but not like it once was

I still think it’s a travesty that Germany gets the best Hunter in the game. The current hunters really suffer at their BR outside of downtiers.

The javelin doesn't have the red top, it has the firestreak

the side aspect game of the red tops is insane as well. can get side locks from like 4 or 5km sometimes

Out of all my war thunder matches, I have only ever seen 2-3 lightnings. It looks like a very funny aircraft
The lighting is really funny looking but has amazing vapabilities at least engine-wise. It's so cool.

Very under rated, like a few other British 9.3s.

Try going from firing pythons or aim-9ls to using R-60ms. What a joke lol.

I gotta be honest, seein people use the F-6 makes me kinda happy since after the f-53 gota dded amd played to death the F-6 just got left on the curb

5:50 that is called a rudder, without vert you cannot pull in the direction you want.
