I just switched my cat to some smaller food that she's eaten before, and enjoyed, and obviously this time around she still enjoyed it, but was inhaling it so fast that she was starting to choke. At that moment, I didnt know how to properly perform a Heimlich maneuver on an animal (didnt assume it was the same as a human) but I paniced and improvised by pretty much doing what was demonstrated here! She's fine now, but I decided to look up how to properly so it just in case. Thank you for the straight to the point video! Much love from me and my cat Cuddles! ❤

I'm here because my cat (she hasn't got any canines or upper teeth due to bad kibbles in her previous life), was annhilating her elderly kibble and she started to choke. She sorted herself out but I was in proper panic mode rushing to TH-cam in breakneck speed. By the time I went downstairs she was fine already... but good to know about the J motion.
My cat died. I don’t know if it was choking or seizures. I’ve never seen anything so horrific before, an otherwise healthy cat. I wish I was prepared. It happened in seconds, the vet told me it was fluids in his lungs. Why don’t I believe that? I hurt without him. Lessons learned!!🙏♥️🙏thank you!!

So my cat was choking and I quickly searched up how to help a choking cat. At the beginning of the video there was an ad I couldn't skip.. like really ? My cat could've died!

I'm so glad someone finally made a video where they demonstrate on a stuffed animal. The first three videos I found just showed people petting cats and talking without demonstrating.
Really pleased you like it and found it useful. There isn't a cat mannequin and so it makes it far harder to demonstate
I imagine if the cat isn't declawed there is a risk of them thrashing around cause of their reaction to the choking. We didnt want to declaw our cat but we do put caps on them. So if this does ever happen I wouldnt have to worry about getting seriously cut.

As a cat owner, I think it’s important to know how you can save your cat from choking. Save way you should know how to save a dog from choking if you’re a dog owner, or how to save a human from choking if you’re a parent. Thank you for this video :)
Definitely! Once I had kids I got my first aid to make sure I was prepared. Got a dog, learned how to help them. Got 2 cats. Learned how to help them. I refuse to feel lost and helpless in a situation like this
I have a cat which isn't the brightest and I just saw her dashing from her food with bits shooting out of her mouth cuz she got distracted. So I thought it would be a good idea to look this up because that's bound to go wrong some time 😂

Omg I just saved my cat he literally almost died 🥺
I recently took a child development class so I learned how to do the Heimlich maneuver. So we were playing with a glow stick and we didn’t think anything bad would happen and he randomly started choking and spitting up. (Hw also meowed which was so sad 🥺) Then I preformed it and he spat up a bunch and then he was okay! I’m so glad!

My cat was choking, but he managed to clear it himself, so I looked this up to learn how to properly do a Heimlich maneuver on cats in case he can't do it himself next time :)

Thank you for this video because yesterday my cat almost died and I quickly searched how to reanimate a dying cat and found your video! We thought that he was chocking on food but the vet conclusions said that it was a heart attack which is why he fell unconscious. I don’t know if this video is really what saved him, but at least now I know how to help my cats if something like this happens again! Really, thank you for your instructions!

This video saved my 4 week old scottish fold kittens life. It ate its mothers dry food and started choking and froffing from the mouth. Wouldnt of made it to the vet. Thanks heeps.🙏🙏

Wish i knew this three hours ago. One of our three cats just died choking on a hairball. I watched helplessly as she choked to death. I didn't know what to do! Soon after she died, I went, and buried her. Now she's in heaven with our dog who died last march of diabetes.

@@FirstaidforlifeOrgUk1 I get nervous that my baby Julian will choke on a furball. He’s a Norwegian forest cat so he has two coats and tons of fur. He starts hacking but not throwing up at the end it makes me nervous and I just wanted to be prepared for the worst and God forbid I ever have to use this knowledge I am very glad it’s out there. You shouldn’t be able to buy/rescue a cat without watching THIS video.

I just had a bad dream where I was feeding my cat and he started choking, I didn't know what to do so I panicked and started hitting his back, it wasn't working so i started crying feeling helpless and eventually woke up. I immediately grabbed my phone to search what to do in case it happens in real life 😩 thank you for the video.

for some reason my cat decided to bite on some leftover bones. i'm very lucky and fortunate that i got there as she was swallowing it. she had small breathing problems for a minute and i couldnt take her to a vet since it was 1:00 in the morning. after watching this video i calmed my cay and slowly opened her mouth. it turned out that she got a wide/massive bone stuck in her upper mouth between the teeth. i removed it with my hand and she realized that im helping so she didn't bite me.

My cat was choking 2 days ago and stood still and wasn't moving, wouldn't stand, I thought it was a heart attack or a seizure that was starting. The first thing I tried was moving her to the bed seeing if she could stand or if it would make her more comfortable, then the Heimlich maneuver since her mouth was hanging open. I didn't know if she was choking so I put my finger in her mouth to feel around since I couldn't see and she never lets me do that to even check her teeth, she definitely had something lodged in her throat (I had just fed her treats about 1-2 minutes prior) assuming it was a treat I think I had knocked it down and she started to walk again but just wobbled around and I rushed her to my emergency vet. They sent out a technician to look at her and everything was norma,l and they said to watch for anymore episodes. I'm thinking she definitely was choking and she has been a lot more clingy lately. I'm just glad she's feeling okay and I'm definitely breaking her treats up into crumbles before feeding them now

Good to know this .... my cat was trying to cough something up. I was scared & realized I don't know what to do. One time I had a chip stuck & was so scared .. 1st person that came along knew how to do this so I just looked up for human, too, so I might help someone else.

I have had a few cat over the years, but my new kitten, who is only five months old but very large! Nearly choked on a kibble the other day, so I wanted to see how you could help them in future. I have used the Heimlich maneuver many times on a human however not on a cat I would be so scared to hurt him! or break one of their ribs! However, I would do it if I thought it was necessary, now that I know it would be the correct thing to do. thanks for posting.

So my cat has only done this a few times now. He would just start trying to throw up but nothing would come out and it scares me that one day while that is happening to him he could choke himself to death.
I've had this cat for about almost 11 years now. His health problems started to show after my older sister rescued him from a abusive man.
And yet to see him basically trying to throw up while coughing it scares me because I've been there with him every step of the way since he came home.
Him trying to throw up only leasts for a few secs.
It scares me even more if this happens to him while he's outside cause he's an outdoor indoor cat and it scarss this if this keeps happening it could end one day killing him.

Question: How do you know if a cat choking is serious? My cat occasionally starts wheezing/coughing like she's choking but I just sit with her and gently strike her between the shoulder blades and she stops after a bit and goes back to normal. I've never called the vet but would like to know when I should before she passes out or something.
CrystalRosebud it doesn’t sound like your cat is choking, but just wheezing. If you are worried at all please get them checked out. It is normal for them to be able to cough up fur balls etc themselves. If they are silent, then this is more worrying.

Hopefully you won't bust the cat's ribs when you do the Heimlich
You shouldn't do, but even if you did and they survived, then the vet can fix ribs

The vet idea is a sad one in the countrysides because they aren't open on weekends....and some weekdays....your cat is only allowed to choke 4 days out of the week ☹️
does the same go for a baby kitten around 6 weeks old? Or do I have to take different precautions?
A similar approach, just be a little gentler as they are so much smaller

Hey dont be too panic Your cat still can recover. My kitten about 4 weeks was choking for 2 nights. So i gave her about 5-10 ml water so she will swallow the bone with water. If it doesnt work you may give your cat some wet food. I didnt even do what she is doing. Because my kitten not too bad besides i just let my kitten plays with her siblings and few minutes later she recovered. So it depends on how bad it is.

My cat choked on her own vomit i think. I banged her neck real hard. Her eyes were watering very badly and yellow stuff was coming out of her nose. Finally whatever it was went away. I cried for an hour. My poor sweet love. She's sleeping now. Absolutely terrifying

My kitten was choking On a egg york which he took and he fell off, If he was choking, thankfully i removed That piece but now my kitten is just soo quiet , he doesn't play with his brothers, he is just sleeping with his head down and he's now very lazy, Idk what to do when i told my parents they said it'll heal himself now i am worried for my kitten. If it's a kitten that swallowed wet food for example... Only open the mouth and blow once with your mouth and give it a chance to bring it out
