Those hits were very tactical too. Once they were disabled in some way and you had an advantage then you go choose how you wanted to handle them.
Jecki seems more of a 14/15 year old rather than a 12/13 year old. Remember, the High Republic Jedi were not threatened. Yord's padawan isn't seen after his first patrol. I think for Sol to take Jecki on these missions is very unusual. It sort of says she is the "Ahsoka" of her time (one of the more gifted padawans). None of the other Jedi in the rest of the Order seem to be operating the same way around the edges of the story. Heck, the only other master/padawan pairing we see is Indara and Torbin now that I think about it. And Torbin's definitely an older padawan when they confront the coven.
8:33 That is an amazing close up when he smiles at her. In my opinion you don't usually see transcendent acting like that in "Star Wars". I forget the name of the actor, but his ability to emote sincere kindness and warmth is exceptional. It was one of the early moments that sold the show for me.

I’m glad you spoke about men and their emotions. You are respected, and people pay attention to what you say. A man who can express their emotions in a positive manner knows that it doesn’t detract from their masculinity in any way. You mentioned ways to release the stress of emotions, but being able to express them is very important, too.
I just have two points of criticism, but overall, I think your interpretation is very solid. 1. The original mission wasn't something dangerous. It was 7? Jedi serving guard duty for another, well-skilled Jedi Master. I don't think they were expecting combat. This is like when Yord brings his padawan onto the Trade Federation Ship. 2. While not perfect, there are outlets for emotion in the Jedi Order. The primary way is not combat, but actually meditation. It is meant to help Jedi clear the emotions from their mind. In addition, there are therapy services, (i.e. Jedi masters). Though I do have to agree, They are lacking. Jeki doesn't die because of that, though. It is because she is not adequately trained, sent on what was supposed to be an easy mission, and loses her mind when her whole team gets Killed. Fair given the circumstances, but not necessarily completely the Jedi's fault.
To be fair they were there to expect a known murderer who killed multiple Jedi already. Yes with 7 Jedi they probably weren’t expecting mich danger, but it’s still a dumb idea
jecki is my favorite character in the series. i really felt it when she died, she had such a strong presence and personality and i expected to see more of her. i was shocked and sad.
I usually root for the Sith and darksiders but Qimir really didn't need to do little Jecki like that. He could easily have chopped her legs off or something instead. SMH Sith do better.
when you said a dropkick can land you on your hip as we saw with jecki later she is kicked on the same place she landed and is kinda stund by it. kinda cool to see after you said it
Your break down and analysis of Jecki has allowed me to see deeper into the story than Disney has allowed on screen, using the Lore that Disney seems to want to ignore, makes Jecki's screen presence more understandable and for that I am glad, thank you. from the moment she spoke to Master Sol I was not impressed, but now I get it and I think you called it well. as for Mae and Osha, and their origins, I like it because it shows the force IS universal as the Jedi allude to and they offer an alterative take that is not just the Jedi mandate and the Sith's adaption of the Jedi lore and use on the Force, The Witches make sense for the Force for parts of the galaxy/universe that have not been exposed to the Jedi/Sith influence but still knew of the Force. this also for me alludes to Jecki's attitude to Osha, as a former Jedi, former padawan of Master Sol and a former "witch" and also explains Mae in many ways too with her Sith master and her willingness to move on from him rather quickly. Thank you for enabling me to think deeper into the story at things I missed as a Star Wars fan who has been only a core fan and not aware of the Expanded SW lore and Universe.
After she bashed Qimir's helmet off, Jecki came at him yelling in rage and then he killed her. Her emotions were her undoing...as The Jedi taught and feared. Not many picked up on that.

Jeckie was pretty cool. She was kind and competant. She didnt take it personally when sol still had an attachment to osha. Jeckie also forced yord to be lighten up a bit. I didnt expect her to die so soon. She had a lot of skill for a padawan.
The main thing to remember is that they were after Mae and sent like 7 Knights and 1 Padawan. They feared it was a rogue Jedi that was training Mae. It wasn't supposed to be that 1 Padawan fighting a possible Sith Lord. Age-wise, Jecki is allegedly supposed to be about 18. So, she had no involvement in the issue on Brendok. That's not to say that the Jedi haven't sent Sol and Jecki on other missions that may be nearly as scandalous. For sure emotion is fore in her mind, so she would see it as fore in everyone's mind. It is too bad that the Jedi were taught to suppress their emotions instead of control them. "Thought police" is usually a dystopian concept. Definitely was emotional vs Mae and then vs Qimir. That smirk when she went into jar'kai mode was clearly overconfidence. She did get quite aggressive and even had uttered a battle cry in the moment before she became a pincushion. As Yord said, "he gets into your head, and stays there". Qimir was certainly clouding and twisting everyone there, evoking and stoking their emotions so as to fuel himself even more (or at least unbalance the Jedi). Combine that with Jecki's innate passions and emotions, and she was bound to mess up sooner or later.
The death of Jecki is a tragedy in this story. An innocent child who potentially had a long life ahead of her as a great Jedi Master, but all of that was taken away from her, not just because of Qimir, but also her own Jedi master's shady past, which she knew nothing about and would likely have shattered her own beliefs in the Jedi if she would have lived to learn about it.
I gave The Acolyte a shot and got attached to Jecki. I thought she had a bright future as a Jedi Knight ahead of her. I don't think I was this sad since Order 66. Edit: Yo, I was sad, why's there a fuckin' argument in the comments? Respectfully, cut the shit. Thanks.
The only way the show can stay consistent with the lore, is for every jedi that saw quimir to die. Including osha, Mae, and sol. Terrible writing. The whole plot is a cover-up. Wooo*sarcasm*
@@AskTheRightQuestion88 Its the "hows" and "whys" that are attractive to people. And as you say, the whole plot is a cover-up. That group is certainly not reporting to the high council, though now that 7 Jedi have died on a mission, there's gonna be more intrigue. Osha, if she's still alive, is now beholden to Qimir's plans - she's either gotta impersonate her sister in return, or "something else".
Yet another brilliant video essay and this time around centered on Jecki. And now I’m depressed all over again. You were a real one, Padawan. MTFBWY, Jecki Lon.
Hard disagree on checking your emotions, depends on how you check them. Emotional suppression is not a good way to check your emotions but have you ever been around someone that doesn’t check their emotions? They are unhinged. Interrogating your emotions, being introspective, and talking to others about how you feel is a good way to check them.
I love Star Wars, but I'm not a die-hard. Why do some people compare the Acolyte to the prequels and sequels when they are two different eras? You can't compare the US government of the 1950s to today, even though judging by some channels they want to go back but that is a whole other topic
i think the comparison to the prequels is a little better because its about a hundred years difference. But actually you do have a good point, a century is a long time. It used to be the star wars galaxy was more stagnant but now it seems like the changes are a bit more noticeable
Y’all are insufferable, you don’t like how someone feels about the show so you assume they want to go back to 1950s America because of their supposed “racist” and “sexist” views.

Jecki should've been sent back to the ship, maybe to alert the Jedi and or request assistance; she was too young for combat and her death achieved nothing, also he story arc had much more latent in it. Sol should've taken the lead, as he was the most experienced in combat.
I have to applaud the show for making me feel EXACTLY how Sol felt in that moment. Especially when Kimir refers to Jekkie as "it." I wanted to beat the snot out of him too. But that's what a really good, slimy villain with no redeeming qualities should do. Complex, relatable villains are all fine and good but sometimes we need a good 'ol fashion utter scumbag villain, and Kimir just oozes pure evil. Of the first five episodes, this is by far the best. To be brutally honest as a fan since the very beginning of SW. This the worst written of any SW project yet. But! It is original writing, unlike the last three movies, which I found to be a giant F.U. to the original trilogy. Jecki Lon was the best character except perhaps her master. The main star of the show, the twins, the actress can't act at all, and I find the writing to just be all over the place. I actually enjoy episode 5 much more after watching this Video Alan, thank you for that. By the way I always thought the perfect Jedi would be an Droid with a High Midi count...No Emotions at all, perfectly programmed to be the ultimate Jedi code walker...
I get a master might not know how dangerous a mission could end up being and being a Padawan is being in a mentorship program until you’re ready to be a Knight. But The fact that any and all of this was missions to hunt down a Jedi killer, a killer of a Jedi Master should have made this too dangerous and too high stakes for a Padawan to be a part of. Another side of the hypocrisy by Sol too. Jecki is seemingly old enough to take a life, but not lose her life.

Master Sol is to blame for her death as much as she is. His padawan leapt down and carried out a nearly minute long duel and he simply stood on a ledge and watched. He is also to blame for Yords death as he remained on the outskirts as Yord attacked.

Those hits were very tactical too. He struct both lungs(to make her unable to breath) and likely the heart then struck he her spine to make sure she couldn't retaliate in the last 2 seconds of her life by paralyzing her. When I was being taught advanced hand to hand combat we were taught to not go for a kill immediately but to take away the opponents ability to stand, breathe or see.

That is an amazing close up when he smiles at her.
In my opinion you don't usually see transcendent acting like that in "Star Wars". I forget the name of the actor, but his ability to emote sincere kindness and warmth is exceptional. It was one of the early moments that sold the show for me.
yea i really liked that scene too Lee Jung Jae is great, i'm gonna be disappointed tho if he turns out to be a monster. You should check out Andor, the acting is even better than this show, and its very consistently. There are at least 4 performances in that tv show that are at his level.
Just look at Barris Offee she completely lost it due to the trauma she faced during the clone wars.
I really love what they did with Jecki's character, and I love your character analysis. I wish she lived longer, but I'm glad she got a memorable Star Wars death.
Her fighting skills reminded me so much of whenever Anakin tapped into his anger. I saw a lot of that with Jecki.
Every time I hear Vernesta I can’t help but hear Nebula from Guardians of the Galaxy. It’s not a bad performance but it’s all I can think about.

thats exactly what "a bad performance" is

You mentioned ways to release the stress of emotions, but being able to express them is very important, too.
Thank you for making sensible content, it is a breath of fresh air compared to some of the "other" SW channels.
@@wildwaters8348 Seven Jedi and a Jedi Master. Keep In Mind that Master Sol had Fought Osha before and easily defeated her.
jecki is my favorite character in the series. i really felt it when she died, she had such a strong presence and personality and i expected to see more of her. i was shocked and sad.
Same. I want it to turn out she survived so bad!😢
I usually root for the Sith and darksiders but Qimir really didn't need to do little Jecki like that. He could easily have chopped her legs off or something instead. SMH Sith do better.

when you said a dropkick can land you on your hip as we saw with jecki later she is kicked on the same place she landed and is kinda stund by it. kinda cool to see after you said it
Your break down and analysis of Jecki has allowed me to see deeper into the story than Disney has allowed on screen, using the Lore that Disney seems to want to ignore, makes Jecki's screen presence more understandable and for that I am glad, thank you. from the moment she spoke to Master Sol I was not impressed, but now I get it and I think you called it well.
as for Mae and Osha, and their origins, I like it because it shows the force IS universal as the Jedi allude to and they offer an alterative take that is not just the Jedi mandate and the Sith's adaption of the Jedi lore and use on the Force,
The Witches make sense for the Force for parts of the galaxy/universe that have not been exposed to the Jedi/Sith influence but still knew of the Force.
this also for me alludes to Jecki's attitude to Osha, as a former Jedi, former padawan of Master Sol and a former "witch" and also explains Mae in many ways too with her Sith master and her willingness to move on from him rather quickly.
Thank you for enabling me to think deeper into the story at things I missed as a Star Wars fan who has been only a core fan and not aware of the Expanded SW lore and Universe.
as much as I wish Jeckie didn't die, she was by far the most likely to turn sith with her emotion-fueled combat
Astounding character… I hope we get to see some pre-acolyte insight… she really held her own against a sith. Bravo!
After she bashed Qimir's helmet off, Jecki came at him yelling in rage and then he killed her. Her emotions were her undoing...as The Jedi taught and feared. Not many picked up on that.
I think it's because she recognized him from their Interrogation, they missed their chance to peacefully arrest him earlier.
My dad is a casual Star Wars fan from the sidelines, like he just watched the movies this last year.
And even he is like yeah, it’s an alright show, especially if you’ve only seen the movies. Like there isn’t a crazy amount of lore you need like Ashoka.
It's crazy too that people are trying to politicize the show, when there aren't really any political commentary. Or the very least not any, surface level wise. That's probably the biggest crime with this show, is it being mid.
Hi Generation Tech - I was on the fence about watching this show because of all the drama BUT I took the plunge and decided to marathon the first 5 episodes WITHOUT having all the outside drama from all sides. I thought you were going to imply that she was a secret sith, but not working with the stranger. Im not going to be surprised if the season reveal is that there is actually a lot of secret sith or colabirators in the jedi temple. At the very least, splinter jedi groups, because every acusation is a confession. Looking at you green lady with a purple light saber.
Thanks.
Same I liked Jecki too
The only way the show can stay consistent with the lore, is for every jedi that saw quimir to die. Including osha, Mae, and sol. Terrible writing. The whole plot is a cover-up. Wooo*sarcasm*
They managed to kill the only interesting character in the whole show.
I really liked the dynamic between Jecki And Yord. Then they both died. I fr just stared at a wall with my mouth open for like 5 mins.
Interrogating your emotions, being introspective, and talking to others about how you feel is a good way to check them.
maybe my video didn't come off that way but i definitely agree. This video was more about the culture of suppression in the jedi its out of control

I hate him but I also can't stop watching him evilling it up on screen, it's intoxicating. Not unlike Palpatine. But Kimir is a lot more smug and slimy than Palps, which works great for the character.

Jeki was too eager to take on Qimir in the way Anakin was with Darth Tyranus… they should have taken him on together
I love this deep dive into the characters of this show!
I love your breakdowns of these episodes, it does reveal all the inner machinations within the writing.

Also, theres a reason sol is so chill and wise. People who have made mistakes with catrosophic consequences, whom truely regret their mistakes, often can be the best people, if they cant accept inside them their short commings.
