Allen, you are a boon to the Star Wars online community my friend! Speaking on marginalized people's experiences, mental health struggles and political games that we see in our world AND TYING IT BACK to these new and old stories that fans enjoy is a tough job right now, but you do it with tact and passion! Thank you for the time you've invested to keep the conversation about Star Wars going, it can still be beautiful!
Always liked your channel a lot my dude, but your determination to provide a objective, balanced and nuanced analysis of this show has truly earned you my respect.
You are one of the good ones on TH-cam! Yes, you make mistakes, but you own up to them and try to do better in the future. Moments like that show your true character. Continue being a true light on this platform in the middle of all the fire that people are trying to light.
I have Manny matching JJ's brilliant acting in this scene you highlighted at the beginning of your video. Both actors were shaking the pillars of heaven in that scene. But you are correct, seeing JJ go from anger to fear as in fear Osha will definitely need an explanation or fear of what he had compartmentalized was amazing. PS-Big fan of your show. I've been breakin my neck to hop on TH-cam and hear what you have to say since I discovered your channel.
“Like the time I dared my friend to milk that bison on that farm in Long Island. I mean just because he got a lot of air time doesn’t mean I don’t deserve redemption.” Lmao Allen 🤣🤣🤣
@@ericp1139 It’s sad to see all these people in the comments getting weirdly angry at people who just simply don’t like the show because it’s bad. @@revengeofthesith. plus, why does it matter to these people of others criticize the show? If they enjoy it, then fine. Why bother going on attack mode to anyone that disagrees?
THANK YOU SO MUCH for pointing out the Grief Grifters. I've noticed this too, the YT code kept sending those to me and I quickly learned to ignore them since I actually liked the show after the first couple episodes, and didn't see all the crap they were complaining about. This show is kind of "watchmen" like, in that as you learn more, the previous scenes take on whole new meanings that can be seen in the prior footage. Bloody brilliant. Thanks for breaking down a lot of this stuff too, you have added a lot of value to the show for me. I love your deep knowledge of the SW universe, even the saber styles and such, your breakdowns on Yord and Jecki were fantastic.
Charisma is a skill to be learned. It opens a lot of ways for you. Allen is very good at it. It’s basically a Jedi mind trick just with reason and a way of presenting matters instead of space magic.
The Acolyte is dope. Its cool if you don't like it. But you better not like it for your own reasons that are not influenced by these internet personalities who make money off of people's nerdy outrage.
@shuheihisagi6689 your comment literally is the same thing that Alan's talking about. I mean literally it sounds like you're threatening people who don't like it. I mean seriously🙄 The thing you're forgetting is there are some people who don't like this movie cuz they don't like the story. They don't like the acting or dialogue can they have valid criticisms that may have nothing to do with this so-called political hatred. And if they do have valid criticisms, what are they supposed to ignore those because a TH-cam channel happened to bring up the same criticism question mark I mean seriously dude that was a childish comment 🖕
@@Wyomingchief well that escalated quickly. I agree on the cinematic reasons why you don’t like the comment. But don’t you realise that your behaviour just put fuel into the fire? Insulting never helps.
I started watching the show because of Master Sol. Lee Jung-jae is *outstanding.* He was born to be a Jedi Master. I've always wanted to see an Asian Jedi Master in Star Wars, not for representation or diversity, but because I *love* martial arts/Kung Fu movies. Hell, I have a Jedi General OC, whom I've always envisioned looking like Legolas (Orlando Bloom) because I thought Legolas would be a great Jedi. But after seeing Lee Jung-jae's and now recently, Manny Jacinto's, I think I want my Jedi General to be a badass Kung Fu-wielding Asian Jedi Master. As for episode 5, I loved the saber combat. This show now belongs to Lee Jung-jae's Master Sol and Manny Jacinto's Smilo Ren. I'm not the biggest fan of the show, but I thought Smilo Ren was pretty cool. He single-handedly took on multiple Jedi and killed almost all of them by himself, which was pretty badass. Headbutting sabers with a cortosis helmet? That's new, different, and kind of awesome. My favorite part of the entire episode was when Smilo Ren turned two Jedi into a "Sith Kebab" and then decapitated them both. Awesome.
You are so on point. I love your perspective, your open mind, and open heart. In turn, you've really opened my eyes and encouraged me to embrace compassion and empathy even more. Thank you for everything!
You should ask that yourself as well. Everyone has a dark side. In some it’s more visible then others. Some people should not be pushed to find their darkness. I myself have been pushed to that point and on e I snapped it was bad for everyone. Learning of your darkness in a controlled environment and how to regulate is very important and spears you from a lot of fear uncertainty and mental health issues in general.
It’s refreshing seeing fair honest and unbiased coverage of this show. My favorite part is this idea that the show is absolutely not traditional Star Wars, it takes on a crime thriller mystery genre persona and does it pretty well. My “sol” criticism is that we only got to see the light whip once, thus far 😂
I wanted to hate this show, but I reserved judgement until I saw it and, I wasn't completely blown away until episode 5 which I thought was really good. And now I have to reserve judgment till the whole series is over before I say if it's good or bad. I think Alan is spot on. And the show is far better and far more interesting than what all the people on the internet are screaming about...
@@aariuswins it's literally like prequel quality. If u haven't like any releases since the 80s, or like some old novels, why are u still trying to watch this stuff
I may not always agree with every statement you've made, but to say you're part of the problem? Nah man, you at least put effort in and try to tie what the topic is with real world examples, personal experiences, and good comedic moments. I've never seen a video here that just bashed a film, show, comic, etc, or the people who enjoy or dislike said thing. If anything, channels like yours are part of the solution.
Agreed. Alan is part of the discourse, but he demonstrates thoughtfulness and respect, not just for the material, but for the human beings behind it all. I'd say he's part of the best that Star Wars analysis has to offer.
@ericp1139 just because you know the term "strawman" does not make it applicable. Alan, from my point of view, is choosing to find a balance, where he talks about the toxic elements of the discourse without naming and challenging specific people, which can too easily turn into a non-productive social media fight, and thus further degrade the discourse. If you're angry that he's not calling folks out by name, but you're not engaging with the actual points that he's making, then I believe you're not going to be able to benefit from what @generationtech has to offer you. However, if you can open your mind, listen and reflect on the substance of what's being presented, you have found a great channel for deeper, more nuanced discussion about Star Wars. Also a place for the Anti-Dolphin Community, but that's a different story, and one I don't even fully understand.
@@matthemming9105 do you even know what “Strawman” is? He’s taking potshots and phantom “grifters,” so he can seem like the reasonable actor. But he doesn’t specify people or quotes.
@@ericp1139 He doesn't have to. Unless you're purposefully avoiding it online, if you attend any forum where Star Wars is discussed(be it reddit, twitter, youtube comments, etc), you absolutely know the exact kind of people he is talking about. You don't need quotes, they are everywhere. C'mon, weeks before the show even started there were hundreds of negative reviews on IMDB. It's quite obvious, and quite ridiculous. Pitiful, even. And to come here, one of the most rational SW youtubers at the moment, and say what you're saying? C'mon. It is just as laughable as those 0 star reviews that came out a month before the show.
I love the compassion and empathy that Alan has been expressing lately, it’s the relatable approach. And a way for fans that may be caught up in all the online discourse to have access to a new perspective, that could allow them an opportunity to have a more mature and meaningful conversation about the show. More often than not recently I’ve discovered that most of the fans/creators who complain about lore breaks are casually interested in starwars or they have surface level understanding of the lore and how it works. That’s fine and honestly expected, not all of us are nerds lol. I know so much starwars lore it’s like a secondary education for me. I even try my best when I’m in online conversations where someone may not understand or have parroted a misconstrued/incorrect lore point and I’ll explain the correct answer as factually and politely as I can. With sources. You don’t handle that situation guns blazing, you simply have to be human and be polite, it’s more satisfying to elaborate on the lore and hopefully help someone learn a new thing than to get a argument out of them.
"Some of the kindest people are that way, because they want people to be kind back" That is a very true and I would say profound observation. Black and white thinking is easier to understand but it is exclusionary and uncompromising by its very nature. Living in a world with nuance and varied perspectives is much more challenging, but provides us the opportunities and, hopefully, desire to be as kind as possible to as many people as possible.
Always, love listening to your takes. I Agree with this one. The cast is pretty solid. This show reminds me ,of how I felt after Gen V. I didn’t really know how to feel ,going into the shows ,and didn’t have the biggest expectations. But surprisingly, enjoying it much more, than expected.

I’m in the crowd of people who believes Star Wars has always had cheesy, terrible, and camp writing. Harrison Ford even threatened to tie up George and make him read the lines at gun point, they were so bad! Everything we’ve gotten recently has been just that and I’m loving it!
Why do people try to justify bad cinema with, “oh, the originals did it too?” The OT came out in 1977 on a shoestring budget. Instead of trying to replicate the flaws, they should focus on what made the franchise great.
I grew up mixed, black and white in the 80s. The weirdest thing about that wasn't being biracial, it was having parents that stayed together until one of them died. Having a diverse childhood that included many cultures in NJ, readily available for me to absorb, I looked forward to seeing people that don't look like me in rolls. As a white male I may not be able to relate to the desire to have my skin color represented, and I might be undervaluing it's importance. In a previous video you said there were no lead white male roles in the acolyte and that was genuinely the first time I noticed. Not saying I don't see color because ofcourse I do, but that's not why I relate to people. I can relate to an anthropomorphic toad if it tells a story that resonates with me. I can see why cultural representation is important, and why it's good or even necessary to have movies about real history from all cultures. But I don't see how someone's skin tone alone would have any effect on whether or not I can relate to the character.
It’s more so about seeing someone who looks like you in a franchise like Star Wars. Maybe people could relate to the original trilogy just fine, but they developed a new kind of connection when they saw someone that looked like them in the acolyte. I’m a white dude too so I also have never been under represented, but that’s how I see it
It shouldn’t have an effect but in today’s day and age there is an inflated importance placed on it. If a character and story is written well then that’s all that should matter and because the writing in this show is very poor it opens itself up to scrutiny and politics. If Andor was written poorly then the only thing people would talk about are the politics the show was trying to push and the fact that it had a diverse cast of characters but since it was great that stuff was not talked about from the majority of the audience watching
@@brosky8744people have critiqued the acolyte for being woke before the first episode even came out. the writing isn’t amazing, but the show would’ve been heavily scrutinized regardless. a lot of the criticism is far harsher than that placed on the prequels or clone wars. things like fire in space, Ki Adi Mundi’s age, and sith being present were all seen as huge issues. fire has always been possible in space in star wars. ki adi mundi’s age was only shown on a random trading card that also featured mundi as a dark side using jedi with a purple lightsaber. Darth Bane and Darth Plagueis both existed during the High Republic, but because of Mundi’s throwaway prequel line, everyone thinks it’s a contradiction. the show is not amazing, but it was not given due diligence by star wars fans
@@christophermiller769 I agree that the show is getting more hate than it deserves but it’s definitely getting justified criticism. Because they make money off of farming rage bait clicks. It is a disgusting tactic and we need to get rid of those kinds of people in fandoms; it isn't just Star Wars; but I feel like Star Wars has a lot of them.
You're killing it with these Acolyte videos. This show has been a slow burn thus far. I'm excited to see what unfolds tonight.
You are one of the good ones on TH-cam! Yes, you make mistakes, but you own up to them and try to do better in the future. Moments like that show your true character. Continue being a true light on this platform in the middle of all the fire that people are trying to light.
Glad to have a fair and honest reviewer like you to take a look at things and give your thoughts.
Allen has got to make a video on this. I have to hear more of this story.
As someone who lived on Long Island I demand to know more.
They’re gonna call you woke now. Man I’m so happy I found your channel I really needed to hear a rational voice.

I may not like the acolyte, but damn Allen you got a way with words
Charisma is a skill to be learned. It opens a lot of ways for you. Allen is very good at it. It’s basically a Jedi mind trick just with reason and a way of presenting matters instead of space magic.
The Acolyte is dope. Its cool if you don't like it. But you better not like it for your own reasons that are not influenced by these internet personalities who make money off of people's nerdy outrage.
@shuheihisagi6689 your comment literally is the same thing that Alan's talking about.
I mean literally it sounds like you're threatening people who don't like it. I mean seriously🙄
The thing you're forgetting is there are some people who don't like this movie cuz they don't like the story.
Awesome.
11:42 easily the best quote in any piece of Star Wars media.
LOL, It's so hard to not see The Stranger is just Jiyanu, er, Jason in one of Michael's experiments.
Idk, Anakin's sand quote is still probably the best; this is a close second though.
"I killed seven Jedi and then I had a different problem!"
No Star Wars/Disney ragebait? Take my upvote!
I agree. Lee has been the heart and 'Sol' of the series so far. Have always loved his acting ever since i watched 'New World'. Brilliant film btw.
That's one of few channels I can watch that provide objective point of view, thank you for everything you do.
You are so on point. I love your perspective, your open mind, and open heart. In turn, you've really opened my eyes and encouraged me to embrace compassion and empathy even more. Thank you for everything!
What have you done with your darkness is a wild statement
The wording is just so precise and unique, at least to my uncultured ass!
@@ForestRaptor lol I agree. Sol has something to let out. Torbin def checked out.
You know, you can judge the quality of each episode independently…
I gotta ask…why did want to hate (that’s a special word too) a show you have not seen yet? How can you dislike a food without tasting it first?

The show is solid. I look forward to a new episode every week.
As far as the acting goes, Lee and Manny are killing it, phenomenal choices!!!!
Oh, he’s definitely part of the problem in the discourse. He resorts to strawman tactics. Why not name and honestly critique one of these “grifters?”
Thank you for this Alan, you said everything I have been trying to say out loud. One of the best Star Wars TH-camrs period.
Hiroyuki Sanada definitely needs to be in SW. I really like Sol though was a very good casting and serious dedication
It would need a special story. I would love to see them as an Imperial though. preferably not hight tier, but important for the story. Something about him makes me think he could pull a real redemption or on the contrary a TRAGIC imperial story
Would be cool to see him in Andor or something on that level, either as a Jedi or someone like Chirrut Imwe who believes in the force

I’m in the crowd of people who believes Star Wars has always had cheesy, terrible, and camp writing. Harrison Ford even threatened to tie up George and make him read the lines at gun point, they were so bad! Everything we’ve gotten recently has been just that and I’m loving it!
Mark Hamill also read some of George's original lines and said "Who talks like this?"
Yep. Star Wars dialog is known for it's cringy lines and awkward construction. Andor and it's brilliant dialog is an anomaly.
Why do people try to justify bad cinema with, “oh, the originals did it too?” The OT came out in 1977 on a shoestring budget. Instead of trying to replicate the flaws, they should focus on what made the franchise great.

Also when the writing is bad the small contradictions become more obvious and hard to ignore. The prequels definitely got more hate and especially Hayden Christianson who had to put a face to the greatest villain of all time and make him compelling with a script that made it next to impossible. I don’t think the prequels are very good but I enjoy them and they are written far better than this show is. I think that’s what the fans of the acolyte need understand that this show is a guilty pleasure for them and stop being upset by the haters because none of them will remember this show after it’s over.
As always Alan i appreciate you being a voice of reason in these difficult times.
