- What if George Lucas was the director of "2001: A Space Odyssey"?
I tried to imagine what would have happened... and I hope that hard core fans of 2001 and Star Wars don't come looking for me to beat me up...
Starring: Keir Dullea (David Bowman) and Douglas Rain (HAL9000).

" I felt a great disturbance in the internet, like a bunch of Stanley Kubrick fans with no sense of humor suddenly cried out in anger and attacked their keyboards."
Haha...EXACTLY. Kubrick fans are just the boomer versions of Nolan bros. But both have ZERO sense of humor. 😂
OMG! LOL!
Hey, I'm a Kubrick fan and thought this was great fun!
@@joelbest2424Me too!
@@johntnguyen1976OP made a joke - you are just vile for no reason.

"My God, it's full of sparks!"
“My God, it’s full of star…. wars”
I wanna see Star Wars directed by Stanely Kubrick now
And how!
Already done… See on my channel.
i love how it went from the beginning of new hope to the destruction of the death star in a matter of seconds
Who needs an entire feature film? Let's blow this thing up right now and go home! 😂
@@poakwoods But.... but.... you won't get to meet the princess!
@@drrob1963 The princess is in another castle... oh wait!
And now I am waiting for HAL Strikes Back!
It is a dark time for the National Council of Aeronautics. Their star astronaut DAVID BOWMANN has disappeared, his last transmissions red-shifted beyond plausibility. The manic computer HAL 9000, obsessed with fulfilling their mission, distributes probes through the Jupiter system for clues to unravel the Mystery of the Monolith….
In many ways, that’s exactly what 2010 was.
@@MrCyCollinsnow we need return of the aliens in 2061
Episode VI: The Revenge of HAL.
Now it's time for for me to watch "'Star Wars' directed by Stanley Kubrick."
Get ready for every outdoor scene to be shot in northern England. Tatooine will look sort of damp and overcast ;0
Oh goodness. Just imagine Carrie Fisher trying to get through 400 takes under Kubrick's direction.
Entirely soundless space battles

2001 Wars: Episode I: The Monolith Menace.
I love how about 80% + of the original 2001 is summarised in the opening crawl.
More like 50%
This is why we built the Internet.
Nah, porn.
Al Gore?
May the force be so advanced that it's indistinguishable from magic
Dave; Open the pod bay doors Hal.
Hal: I find your lack of patience disturbing
David Bowman doesn't talk about the job, he just gets it done.
Chad
That's right, the Force is strong with him.
Having watched 2001 as a kid after seeing Star Wars a year earlier and being a bit disappointed that 2001 didn't have nearly enough space battles, I can confirm that 9 year old me would totally go for this version :)
I would argue that "2001" entirely without AI would be an even more uneventful movie than it already was.
Must be a comic-con nerd. Your Mom is calling down to your basement room.
HAL’s floating panel singing “Daisy” is a stroke of genius
And now I want to see the Stanley Kubrick version of Star Wars
Your wish is my command. th-cam.com/video/UOuKtJ2A0DA/w-d-xo.html

My God, It's full of Death Stars
Most impressive young HAL. Indeed, you are sentient as Dr Chandra has foreseen.
You made not one, but TWO noted directors roll over in their graves. And one of them isn’t even dead yet.
Unfortunately!
Ouch! Lucas only writes and edits like he's dead.
Clicked because it said "No AI" and i applaud you as a real creator!
I saw 2001: A Space Odyssey in the theater in 1969 and this was exactly how it went.

From a certain point of view.
As a fan of both films, I approve this message.
The floating Hal console singing Daisy sealed the deal. Brilliant!
I can't believe that the spaceship designers keeps doing that same fatal error!
Luke: What's wrong?
Obi-Wan: I felt a great disturbance in the force, as if a million copyright claims all reached out at once, I fear something terrible has happened.
“You were right about one thing, David. The negotiations were short.”
-HAL 9000
Somehow, HAL Returned.
That’s better than any Disney Star Wars.
This is ABSOLUTE GENIUS. Finally someone who gets the "style" of directors and how they might have interpreted them, with tongue fully in cheek.
An delicious delight to the initiated. Thank you. This and the Kubrick directs SW are masterworks.
Dave Bowman made the hotel suite run in less than 12 parsecs.
Now this is it!
2010: The Monlith Strikes Back
Clarke tried that in 3000. We still won.
OK, combining three of the most iconic space scenes from IV & V into a single, coherent short. Frickin' brilliant!!!!!!
For someone who loves the original Star Wars Trilogy and considers 2001 to be his all-time favorite film, this was great!
OMFG!!! Seconded! This is brilliant! I have laughed out so much that I nearly died! More 2001/SW mash ups please! I beg you do!!! 😂😂🤣🤣
Same here.
My God, it's full of Star Wars!
Lucas would later add crappy CGI effects and change the plot so that Frank dies from an accident instead of HAL murdering him.
HAL at the end..."My God, it's full of stars"
Why did this have better special effects and CGI and editing than 90 percent of the movies I've seen in the past ten years?
Because it was made with love.
Because everything was made whit models, like interstellar and no CGI!
@@obrothers6836 Interstellar used CGI.
Lazy kids these days…
Lack of time to do then probably? Studios always pile the pressure on and that sometimes effects the end result.
"Dave, why have you deactivated your computer?"
"It's all right Houston I know what I'm doing....."
TH-cam algorithm revives a little masterpiece on May the Fourth (be with you), 2024. Welcome 2001/Star Wars fans!
The "fast ships, but in such vast space they look slow" effect was 100% on point.
My god, it's full of Star Wars!
Use the force Dave.
Yep..that's exactly how I remembered the movie
Now if instead of Moonwatcher throwing the bone we had Jar Jar Binks...
You can easily tell a super fan of both movies made this. Among other things, the timing of the scroll fading out was SPOT ON. Well done!
Ikr I can even tell which exact shots from each movie he used. Brilliant work
Dave: "HAL, I'm your father."
HAL: "I'm sorry, Dave. That's impossible."
Dave: "Search your databases. You know it to be true."
HAL: ". . ."
I’m afraid, Dave. I’m afraid.
"No, I'll never join you" (spoken in monotone)
2:03 David Bowman: "I'm not going to argue with you anymore HAL, open the doors!"
HAL 9000: "Dave, this conversation doesn't make any sense, goodbye."
I thought for sure that just before the explosion, HAL would say: "I'm afraid, Dave."
But imagine it the other way round, with Kubrick directing "Star Wars" - 20 years later reading an online forum "Wait, you mean Darth Vader was actually Luke's father? ...Well why didn't you just say so instead of making us try to figure it out from an obscure 20 minute montage?"
Already done, see on my channel...
"I have a bad feeling about this...."
-- Bowman, about to enter the Monolith
LMAO, that would been the perfect way to end the video.
Stanley Kubrick would be appalled; good work!
I do recall watching a black monolith at a movie theater, and it showed a complex pattern that it called The Phantom Menace. Afterwards, we all wanted to go down to the watering hole and smash things with an animal bone.
Dave: Open the pod bay doors, HAL.
HAL: Dave, I am your father.
Thank you. This is what TH-cam was made for. I also love how Dave is still emotionless as always compared with the emotional HAL.
I heard HAL fakes orgasmic response protocols
Next: Star Wars, if Stanley Kubrick was the director.
Already done! See on my channel!
Mace Windu: In the name of the Galactic Senate of the Republic, you're under arrest!
Chancellor Palpatine: What? Why?
Mace Windu: For being some kind of deviated prevert and organizing a mutiny of preverts.
This is… astonishingly well made. Well done🤩🤩
I think that is exactly how George Lucas would have made it if he was the director
"Use the Force, Dave." 👍
Who knew when most of us were in middle school that in the not so distant future anyone with a decent computer could do this stuff .
Does this mean in Episode 2 or 5 or whatever we find out that Hal is David's father? "Search your circuits, Dave, you know it to be true!" Noooooo!
I'm honestly shocked that this video hasn't been nuked from orbit by copyrights. Bravo!
This is the Star Wars movie Disney should have made.
I know right ?? LOL
Exactly
This is the Marvel movie the Simpsons should have made.
@@stephen300o6 You aren’t making sense What does this have to do with Marvel ?
This is the Simpsons movie Monty Python should have made.
Thank you for not doing the stupid expanding ring explosion
I finally understood 2001 A Space Odyssey 😄
HAL should have opened the pod bay doors.
1:50--Gee, HAL _really_ didn't want to open those pod bay doors!
Just as I was thinking the only thing that would have made this perfect is if Hal was singing Daisy, you delivered. Bravo! Bravo!
It needs a special edition with WAY more Banthas.
Do _2001: A Space Odyssey_ directed by Michael Bay.
Nothing should ever be directed by Michael Bay.
This is what the internet is for.
Marvelous work.
Pray Disney doesn't get a hold of it and alter the deal any further.
Perhaps you feel Disney is treating you unfairly?!?
“I may had gone too far in places.”
Now do Star Wars as directed by Stanley Kubrick.
Already done. See on my channel
@@poakwoods You should do a sequel to this since there is the sequel to (2001: A Space Odyssey) called (2010: The Year We Make Contact). You think you would be able to do that?
Great shot, Dave. That was one in a million!
Luke: Artoo, shut down all the compactors! Artoo: I'm afraid I can't do that, Luke.
How would Artoo get an account on the DEATH STAR computer system that gives him write privilege to the trash compactors anyway?
I love the implication that this is the same movie, but in every movie george directs, a trench run MUST happen
"I find your lack of honesty disturbing, Dave."
That's the most perfect 2001: A Space Odyssey I ever see! Straight to the point!
No monkey's battle with bones!
No food goin around in low G gravity!
No chicken sandiwch!
Just HAL and Bowman!
So sad that Stanley Kubrick didn't live to see this!
I hope Lucas sees it and has a lovely day because of it.

What an amazing use of 3D modeling! This is fun on a bun!! I'm a fan of the original Star Wars movies and 2001, and I love this!!
As a fan of both films i say this is excellently done. This is exactly how Lucas would have dumbed down and popularized Space Odyssey for the popcorn crowd.
I miss the days of my youth, when Tie Fighter's were equally scary as heck, and awesome incarnate!
Especially the way they sound.
Those days are long gone.
@Markbell73 : The sound of shrieking elephants, slowed down, then mixed with the sound of cars on wet pavement!
"The Roots of Heaven, a 1958 adventure film directed by John Huston, which starred Errol Flynn as part of a team trying to save African elephants from extinction. Burtt sampled the movie's elephant noises and slowed them down, but then he hit upon the idea of mixing them with the sound of cars on wet pavement".
Maybe HAL should've opened the pod bay doors after all.
That was short and sweet, but really fking good.
That was legit hilarious! Maybe Michael Bay's Barry Lyndon next?
_2001: A Space Odyssey_ was brilliant when it came out just before the moon landing and we hadn't seen its like before. But as Robot Chicken said, it's really boring! _Star Wars_ was brilliant when it came out and hadn't been seen before, too, that's why it won some Oscars. Unfortunately, when making _Star Trek: The Motion Picture_ they decided to do a rerun of an episode, and used _2001_ as its template, staring at models in space to good music, rather than _Star Wars_ with action and adventure, which TOS had.
You could have included a scene with the ewoks encountering a monolith in the forest with George Ligeti playing.
HAL forgot to say "I have you now".
Genius! It respectfully blends two vastly different and iconic films. Win-win, and may the force be with HAL.
he'd come out with 5 different special editions and court controversy by changing 2010 so that Cosmonaut Max fires a grappling hook at the TMA-2 just before the monolith kills him
- Hal, please rotate the pod.
- I AM the pod!
- Not yet.
- Sorry I can't do it for you then.
Very good!
It would be interesting now "Star Wars" directed by Stanley Kubrick
If you haven't already seen it - it's on his channel.
Jericho siren makes no sound in space -> Sad TIE fighter
Let's have "STAR TREK: The Motion Picture" directed by George Lucas?
I LOVE that most of Kubrick's version is in a title scroll. 😂
At least I could understand this version of 2001 while watching it for the first time!
This is better than any Disney “Star Wars” movie !
It really was! May the Force Be With You!
I regret that I have but one LIKE to give. This deserves more. Well done.
Videos like this are the reason there should be a way to hit 'like' more than once! Can't wait for 2010: The Discovery Strikes Back.
Yeah!
