    Hi Mike, thanks so much for the shout out. Just started going through your videos for the second time and ran across your new post. Love reviewing your tips. Picked up things I had missed the first time. Very motivational videos. I live in Florida so right now we are dealing with 90's every day. I'm trying to find someone to help me with the metallic paint which I hope to do this fall or early spring. Will be looking forward to your upcoming videos with regard to parts. That's what I'm toying with now. Again thanks for the your effort in producing these videos and answering questions. Much appreciated.
    Frank

      911s are gorgeous in metallics.
      Will keep the videos coming=) at the moment I'm bogged down with work
      and the extreme heat in Las Vegas but getting very close to assembly
      Thanks for tuning in and lots of luck with the painting!!

    One thing about this undercoat is that done right it works amazing. But if any moisture gets behind the under coating it stays there and actually does more damage than not sealing it at all. But just absolutely gorgeous car

      @MikesRestorations  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Dogleg
      Thank you
      Yes for sure undercoating and moisture are mortal enemies
      It was the original undercoatings on these early cars that did just that
      Many resting in the graveyard as a result of that condition

    Hi Mike, if I can give you advice, leave polishing as one of last steps. When you will assembly this car, it is possible that there will be some scratches or other damages and it will hurt you when something happen on a perfectly polished bodywork.

    • @MikesRestorations
      @MikesRestorations  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Michal
      You have an excellent point and some very sound advice! I will bring this up on the next video of pros and cons of going too soon.
      However on this build I need to take advantage of the rotisserie for proper block sanding. The other panels will wait until it is time to final assemble.
      They are in the shop and best left unpolished for the duration for this reason.
      We will be using full protection during assembly and a white gloves approach=)

    Hi Mike, that thing is sure looking purdy, coming along real well !!! Try and get er done for winter so after a good rain you can go out and drift that little fella, a little lubricant (water) on the tires will let them step out real nice in a tight corner ha. Just kidding, kept up the good work and hope to see you soon. Ate at Fillipi's last night, then walked Grand Ave. to look over all the cars. Kind Regards, Gary

    Hello Mike incredible work and wonderful explanations! I've been following because I am looking for the right 1969 911 to restore. I really appreciate the attention and research that goes into making making your project such an authentic restoration. I have a fairly similar mindset as well. I am currently doing a 1979 Camaro, base model, but I'm the second owner and it is a verified numbers matching car with all of the documentation, including the original build sheet, window sticker and original bill of sale, so I'm putting more money and time into authenticity than many would feel is prudent. It will not be 100% authentic because the interior was changed to black from the original blue and in my opinion is much more attractive so I'm staying black. Everything else I'm sourcing and restoring to original where I can to stay true to its roots. I expect to keep the car and will not show it for awards only for others to have a fun trip down memory lane. My question to you is regarding undercoating the topic of this video. My research has found second gen Camaro's only came with wheel well undercoating sometimes never any other place on the underside of the car. My car only has undercoating in the rear wheel wells. It will live out its life in Denver a very dry climate, not be out in wet weather or driven on sloppy roads. I am inclined to not undercoat anything but the rear wells. I would do it the same as you did for ease of cleaning and a lifetime of looking great. With what I have described for use, climate and no interest in winning awards how might you approach my situation. Keep up the amazing work and thank you for documenting it!

      Hello C Gorgas
      Your Camaro project sounds like a real jewel!
      Im not sure what stage your restoration is in regarding bare metal to paint but if the base layers of primer include an epoxy sealer coat you should be fine not applying undercoating. Modern paint systems are superior to older technologies in sealing out the elements. If you have an epoxy sealer coat prior to finish paint pretty much nothing is going to get through that.
      In that case the textured undercoating really is more cosmetic than functional

    Beautiful work on this 911 dude. I’m starting a similar project. Where did you purchase the rotisserie? Or did you build it?

    • @MikesRestorations
      @MikesRestorations  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello North Park thank you and welcome to the channel
      The rotisserie was made home built..There are a couple early videos in the series that go over the process with measurements
      Its designed to work a s a system with a dolly of complimenting height.
      Good luck with your project!

    Greetings, What type of clearcoat did you use? Thanks for sharing, much appreciated.

    • @MikesRestorations
      @MikesRestorations  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Andy
      It was a blend of PPG 2021 Gloss and PPG 2060 Flat
      70/30 ratio approx if I remember but you can mix the two at what ever ratio you want for desired sheen
      70% 2021/ 30%2060
      Good Luck!

    What are you using for the undercoating?

    • @MikesRestorations
      @MikesRestorations  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Gary
      Im using Rust-Oleum brand..available thru Summit Racing
      You can see comparable products on some of my other videos..
      I recommend video 22 Finish paint part-4
      also video 15 Undercoating process part-1 has some samples sprayed out

    What is the undercoating you are using? Brand etc. Possibly Wurth?

    • @MikesRestorations
      @MikesRestorations  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was Rustoleum brand shot from quart cans.. really nice to work with but nasty strong chemicals.
      It was no longer available when searching for it last year. You may be able to acquire it from a supplier if they have some old stock but my thoughts are it was not EPA friendly and has been pulled form the market place.
      You can now purchase new Rustoleum undercoating from spray cans but I have not tested any.
      Good luck!

    is this your car? or is this for a customer? if for a customer how much do you charge for this whole job?

    • @MikesRestorations
      @MikesRestorations  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Cool
      Yes this is my personal project and car. I am not for hire professionally to do this work. Are you looking for someone to do a restoration for you?
      Restoration shops can be quite expensive and qualities ranging wide.
      For some of the best work $300,000 to $400.000 and even higher is not uncommon. A typical restoration decent quality could run $100-200,000
      depending how much metal work needs to be done and what state your car is in before restoration
      Good Luck!

    I keep hearing undercoating is bad.. it actually traps moisture next to the metal, promoting rust.

    • @MikesRestorations
      @MikesRestorations  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello cmscms
      The information you are getting might be a bit misunderstood in
      how they come to this conclusion.
      Early Porsche's had severe undercoating issues related to exactly what you are mentioning. They sprayed asphalt based undercoating directly to the bare metal surface and over time it dried out cracked and became a moister trap for these early cars. Water and salt worked their way between the surface of the aged coating and bare metal. Early cars would be high candidates for severe body cancer because of this.
      Later models this was corrected by dipping the cars in galvanizing materials and then applying the undercoating over the top for sound deadening.
      For restorations we seal the bare metal first with epoxy primer and then apply the textured undercoating.
      Its never recommended to apply undercoating directly to bare metal. A sealer should always be applied first in addition to body seams. I hope this helps=)
      Good Luck!
