Thanks for this Marc. I loved this type of guide dissecting a high level game and letting us know all the details. This was awesome. More of these would be great. Home with covid, I can't get enough of your videos. Really trying to push my MMR. I'm prolly going to go back and watch all your Terran Schools videos again.

Love getting your input on these games. You explain to us non pros perfectly. And saying Maru is probably the best defensive player, in my opinion is so accurate. I’ve seen him win so many games he should have lost 30 minutes earlier.
This guide was a nice change of pace, its funny because i was actually going to request a 2022 maru mech guide after seeing maru vs dark in GSL. Would love to see marus TvZ 2 base bio push all in guides in the future! Thanks!

As one who is native to the NA server, I must recommend the strongest style of mech.
This style of mech makes sure your opponent is confused and befuddled to the maximum. First you hit them with the good ol' BC opener, or you could go for that old quadriple speed banshee style instead.
Then you make ghosts. Ghosts and tanks and hellions. After you've started your 2nd and 3rd factories, rather than letting the barracks float off and scout, you give it a tech lab and make ghosts. Alternatively, you can make reactor marines and add on a 2nd barracks with a tech lab for ghosts. Bio-Mech. Marines are great for early stability when playing mech, and on a low base count with a lack of gas floating minerals is going to happen, even when making hellions. So make marines. Mech in early stages lacks stability because of a lack of tanks and units in general because they take so long to make, which is why early high marine counts can be good, especially with good building positioning. While you make marines to, you wont need hellions so much to defend, so you can harass with them at the same time.
Ghosts are super handy to have versus protoss as well as the main protoss counters to mech are archons and zealots, and against zerg well... You already know how that sweet snipe goes in the ghost to GM.
In the end your opponent gets super confused as to why you have so much bio units with mech, while you harass him to death with hellions and BCs or banshees.
Is this efficient? Probably not. Does this work? 100%. Is this fun? Ya.

There's no way I'm gonna be able to replicate what Maru did nor am I gonna be able to follow every step mentioned here. But I am trying to get some ideas about this build and try out what will work for me. Thank you very much for the guide.
I made so much salt form a zergy with this build. He was swearing at me to leave my base and attack him. He was crying that I made "just command center". I didn't do a good job splitting the map. He took 1 of my bases. It was ok because he lost 25k more resources than me. He ended up rage quiting after smashing his army into my Thor tank PF. Thanks!
When you saw Clem tried to do Mech vs Reynor, you recognized how efficient Maru is. He just makes it look like late game is easy for Terran. Not many people could pull this off against Serral and Reynor in late game. Like Marc said, Maru has revolutionzied the Terran late game lately.

Amazing guide Marc just wonderd one thing you never talked about (or not to much) how should you split the army? Should you have a couple units always in the same place or can you use in should some units be in diffrent spots? Looking at replay it almost looks that Maru has the hole army clumped up all time not spliting anything but it doesent seem like the entire truth so clarifaction would be great.

The games Maru played in GSL this week we're insane.
Would it be worth it to squeeze a raven out in this matchup? helps w/ creep control a little bit, but really, when maru had 3-4 bcs fighting all those queens at around 9-10 mins into the game, 1 surprise anti-armor missile and all those queens die right? 3 bcs kill an anti-armor-ed queen in literally less than a second if you do the math (175 hp queens, 3 BCs do 190 DPS to anti-armor queen) and then yamato the ones that didn't die. also helps him trade against a low amount of corrupters.
If there is no 3rd hatch what would you suggest. In general I always struggle vs roaches I know they are weak vs air units and maruaders but they are just so tanky.

I’m very vanilla with Terran so far and play bio 100% of games so when I heard EIGHT factories it kind of blew my mind lol that’s so many! Most I’ve had in games is like 6-7 racks 2 fac 2 starport lol

Even my half-assed terran mech seems already op vs zerg in my pleb league. But happy to get schooled anyway. Mech is the only kind of terran I enjoy playing and ghosts are the only bio unit I'm inclined to make. Normally just few out of single barracks for emp vs toss but I do need to get me a habit of using them vs zerg more too.

I'm gold and have beaten master league players with mech. It works. I go with Thors and never build tanks unless they go for lurkers. Liberators and Thor are good too against Swarm Host. If only I could figure out a Protoss build...

Why are BC's so important ? Wouldn't speed banshees fill the same role? I hover around 4.7-4.8 on NA and see a lot of roach allins so normally open banshees even if going mech
I assume because they also help deal with Muta and they can do harassment even if they scout you because you have the teleport and higher hp, whereas if they scout your Banshees they just build detection and you can't harass anymore because of Queens. I don't know for sure, but that would be my guess...
I think its because they don't get shoo'ed away by queens and spores, and you can use the 3 BCs as a mid-late game harasser. In most of the games I watched, they tend to rebuild up to 3 BCs if they lose any.
@@Kholdaimon True the mutas are a bit tougher to deal with, you have to scout it and make cyclones before tanks or else its gg. But at 5:00 uthermal says that battle cruisers are particularly useful against swarmhost attacks, that's more what I was confused about. Why battlecruisers over banshees against swarmhosts
Made this comment before finishing the video, seems like the reason is the BCs just deal crazy dps to the locusts. I was thinking of the banshees as nydus worm hunters and to use them to snipe the swarmhosts. Maru doesn't even use his BCs that way which is interesting but makes sense
Mutas destroy speed banshees. At least with bcs they can jump out.

Is battle mech (hellion/cyclone) still considered viable? It's been a long time since I've seen pros use it. I'm still able to make it work sometimes at low masters, but I guess it isn't good enough at the pro level anymore.
Feel like the easiest way to play mech is to defend over and over lol. I find mech impossible because of actually moving out.

How does that comment make any sense. Unless you are in GM, you're not going to be facing a zerg with that well coordinated attacks or spellcaster control and mech is extremely strong.
It's annoying that zerg can make swarm hosts and they auto make free units with no micro, then sit in them until broodlords that do the same thing. Terrsn has to micro so much more
Is it true that Maru traded playing aggressively to turtling because he's trying to preserve his wrists?
Well, Maru started the turtling style around the time he was having serious shoulder injury around late-2020, so I think they are related.
