If you watch the Documentary Now talk, Seth Meyers and Bill Hader talk about this aspect of Fred's humor after Bill starts laughing at Fred for seemingly no reason. Fred's comedy style is to begin a story with a genuine tone, and introduce something absurd. As Seth says, "you're waiting for the bit." I think this is something any audience picks up on, and I don't think it speaks poorly of the audience at all. If anything, it speaks well of Fred's uniqueness. After all, if one of Fred's dear friends sees it coming, I think it's OK if others do too.
@@KevinVanOrd Good point, I also did take the audience as being a bit rude when Fred was seemingly giving an honest answer but I could see with his comedy style how you could assume that the punchline was coming
I've heard Carrie use the word "verisimilitude" in two different interviews. Other than those two occasions, I've never heard that word spoken by anyone, ever.
I didn't know what you were getting at (that which you were getting?) , so I had to look up reoccurring. Thank you for that - difference between recur and reoccur. I disagree in the objection. Reoccur is correct here. Matthew's roles change. So, Matthew is the same, but he has different roles. Ergo, reoccur is correct. NYC (a sop: the greatest city in the world!) makes no difference. What is the key word of the last question - the one where the audio is low then picks up - 1:09:33? It sounds like the (names of character) sketch. Then she says something about using it. What is the joke? What is the it?
I'm surprised Portlandia is so popular in america. Carrie is a jewish lesbian, Fred is a cuban immigrant and togrther they make fun of white, hipster, trendy/fad following, celebrity obssessed people. You got to love them !
I have mixed emotions about Fred when he’s interviewed, especially when it’s front of a crowd. Like I feel sorry for him because regardless of what he says, there’s always a pregnant pause and he almost looks embarrassed, like “that’s it, that’s all I have to say about that”. Then I remember the reason everyone is doing that is because his humor is so “fuck with you” type humor, so it’s his own fault everyone is expecting him to be funny in a pick on you sort of way. Fred is great though, he is hilarious, I particularly like when he’s interviewed with Bill Hader, Hader cracks Fred up and it’s hilarious to see the guy who’s usually fucking with people completely losing his shit
What was with the "Jewey name" guy? I feel like in his head he was going to throw that out, bring the house down and be handed several money bags and the keys to the Portlandia writers' room.
I think the interviewer is Ophira Eisenberg. I scrolled through the comments for confirmation, and now i'm just assuming it's everyones favroite NPR game show host, Ophira Eisenberg xD
I always went to the other if you can see all of the other for features of this site and you would think that you are a good fit for the most can you anyways...
vi. bran. The shows popularity brought people from all over the country to move to & visit the city. Prices skyrocketed. Buying or renting became insanely expensive. It made the lives of people who were already living there a living hell. People can't afford to live there anymore
Are you serious? The show really has that effect? Funnily enough, watching all these skits I feel like if I'd ever visit the US I'd go to Portland to have a look at these people lol
Portlandia is a brilliantly funny show.
Carrie is so well-spoken. I want to strive to be like her.
+Rochester#18
I will pray for you to hopefully one day be able to strive to be like her.
Rochester#18 yes...but now trump is president...so...
I salute you for praying that she will be able to strive to be like her
it's like, she's using these big words that would make a lesser person sound pretentious, but they just feel so natural and right when she says them.
Be yourself, we have enough fakes.
Every time Fred says something people laugh, even though he's not trying to be funny the majority of the time.
Yeah it's kind of rude of them, you can tell it makes him feel uncomfortable
+Jason Lucas It's like they expect him to be on all the time so they're almost like default laugh. I don't know if that makes sense. lol
@@sarahsmiles9440 i think thats a very accurate statement

Carries smile and quick wit is the best.
I can’t believe I’m just seeing this now for the first time. Absolutely delightful.
That was the most beautifully awkward thing I've ever seen
I've heard Carrie use the word "verisimilitude" in two different interviews. Other than those two occasions, I've never heard that word spoken by anyone, ever.
Oh.
she is fucking brilliant, there was a vocabulary word at the beginning of the segment, im rewatching to figure it out but my lord is she well spoken
germiane @ 2:43. simple word but perfectly used, girl knows how to articulate.
Since you brought the word up, I tried to catch it but missed it. Love Carrie, great user of the language.
its a film term
Carrie’s “everyone’s ramblin” bit was wayyy under appreciated by this audience😂
One of the funniest and most innovating shows since the Honeymooners.
I was that excited when they came out with Portlandia having seen Thunderant before hand.
I love them they are brilliant :)
i am loving this hard-hitting wig commentary
Oh man...imagine being that guy that said Carrie has a very 'Jewy' name. Thats just wrong. I think she was pissed, rightfully so.
THAT OLD LADY THAT RAPPED DESERVES THE BEST I'M SO SAD I HOPE SHES OKAY AHHHHH
Carrie's shoes YES GIRL
Carrie Brownsteinstein
having rick moranis on the show would be the BEST
The moderator deserves a raise.
Fred redefined sexy.
Love Carrie!
omg im crying. "WHO DID THAT??"
57:27 she is so sweet i wish her the best ugh i feel so sad that she never got on the show :(
Come on ... this is NYC, don’t say reocurring. .01:54 I totally ❤️92Y. Perfect for TH-cam. Thanks.

They should’ve put a bird on it
They can pickle your comment.
Carrie has magical teeth.
SCRIPTURE SAYS-
Loved the celery show.
Carrie is so cute .
what ever happened with Rappin' Rufus?
there weird naturally, i can't tell if there acting
Carrie's beautiful. Absolutely my type.

41:50 great impersonation of Jello Biafra !
Saint Martins shes not lesbian
@@sarahholt625 Indeed. Carrie identifies as bisexual; she was in fairly public relationships with Taylor Schilling and Abbi Jacobson.

do you like hats?
Because its digitally recorded they have only the time to fight. When its just those two, I'm sure its like being on vacation.
Put a bird on it is the dumbest thing in that show. What should the singular memorable sketch be for Portlandia?
What was with the "Jewey name" guy? I feel like in his head he was going to throw that out, bring the house down and be handed several money bags and the keys to the Portlandia writers' room.
Carrie naming Zach Hill?? damnnn
do you use potato chips instead of crackers?
jello biafra was the fucking best
for putting cheese on
They are such a beautiful couple...

They were at second city for 20 years. And its all unscripted.
This interviewer makes me feel uncomfortable at times
I know what you mean; she's always grabbing me.
do you have bed food?
FRED ARMISEN SINGLE HANDEDLY DESTROYED THE CITY OF PORTLAND. I KNOW. I LIVE HERE.

yeah all those rich folks watching IFC and being like "I'd like to live with some overly offended feminists!".

Germaine? Germaine?
Interviewer's style is fail.
she did a great job interviewing them. after seeing so many terrible interviews i appreciate her.
and i thought she was cute.
She’s 100% cringe
She has beautiful armpits. I’m not joking, and that isn’t “my thing”. They’re just sexy .
Portlandia is very entertaining, but where's the character diversity??
Sweet Kali well, there’s only two main characters, and only one of them is white
Bc that’s what is so important ALWAYS.... Jesus Christ 🤦♀️
You saw the episode about that, right?
I could picked the F out this.
You can tell that these two really really enjoy each others company. They have to be sleeping with each other or have slept with each other.
Carries gay-
they could also just be platonic friends???
