I am playing x4 again, but this time with rtx 3080ti, 5700x3d and together with reshade and everything maxed out it looks just amazing. Not that i had any problem playing x3 back in the day. Thx for tips btw
My most amusing Zenon Killer so far is three rows of 40 MK2 laser turrets spaced two KM apart. They do a wonderful job of polishing all the bumps off of a K's hull and leave it sparkling clean. Then I just roll in with the behemoth that I used to lay said turrets and put a few rounds into the now whimpering beast. I guess kind of like a spiders web.
I do the same but use a trio of gunships with mass drivers to finish the job and leave a small ftr nearby to collect drops, i have a setup like this at every xenon gate. for farming drops.
I have about 200 mk1 towers set up at the xenon gate, coming into argon territory. Then a colossus carrier with about 40 subordinates. It wipes out anything coming in, in seconds. Then I have a small team on repeating orders to pick up the loot, and made like 20 mill off that in a couple hours yesterday. 😁
@@Christian3828 It doesn't take long at all. The Behemoth can deploy four turrets at a time. I point it in the direction that I want to place them. I bring the speed up to fifty and start deploying 40 of them. At this point I turn off the fight assist thingie so that I can coast and rotate the ship so the turrets can be laid unobstructed. As soon as that is done move a little ways off and repeat. The Behemoth is a wonderful turret layer.
Some constructive criticism: I'm fairly new to X4. I've not even unlocked some of the races/factions you recommend. It would have been MUCH more helpful to me, if you had covered the basics up front like, "For a fleet going after stations, you want 2-destroyers, 4-frigates and 12-fighters, and this is how I would set them up. For going against capital ships, you would need..." I'm sure those much more familiar with the game got WAY more out of this than I did.
@@devduguay2814 the OP is just recommending that the guide was a bit more genaric how to construct certain fleets. But captain is giving his best fleet setups which would be very specific so this is not the video OP is looking for it would seem.
Once the Raptor and the Chimera were introduced in the game, that solve the fleet combat in X4 for me. The most powerfull fleet in high attention: 1 Raptor, all beam in L turrets, all flak on m turrets, all split tech 60 torpedo Chimera, 4 neutron gatling + 1 torpedo launcher, atack with the carrier (full BM can also be used, I don't because my split fleet must use only split tech) 40 interceptor Chimera; 4 neutron gatling + 1 smart missile launcher, intercept for the carrier this fleet will handle ANYTHING except station demolition. Argon fleet composition, all argon tech: 1 Colossus flagship + 40 torpedo Eclipse, 2 gatling + 2 torpedo launchers, atack with carrier 1 Colossus + 40 interceptor Eclipse, 2 gatling + 2 ion blasters, intercept for the carrier 10 Behemoth, defend the Colossus flagship 1 aux ship + 20 Minotaur on defend + 20 torpedo boat Cerberus Note: if you have destroyers in your fleet composition, you need an aux ship for repairs. An aux ship is slow and mostly defenceless, so the M ships protect against S/M ships (Minotaur) and capital ship ambush (torpedo boat Cerberus) Paranid fleet composition, all paranid tech: 1 Zeus Vanguard flagship + 40 Theseus bombers, all BM, atack with the carrier 1 Zeus Vanguard + 40 Ares interceptors, all bolt, intercept for the carrier 10 Odysseus E, defend the Zeus Vanguard flagship 1 Aux ship + 20 Nemesis Vanguard + 20 torpedo Gorgon Terran fleet, almost all terran tech (I use torpedo tech on Falx): 1 Asgard flagship 2 Tokyo + 40 Kalis each, intercept for the carrier 3 Syn + 3 Osaka (terran destroyers are so powerfull, that I don't need 10) 1 Aux ship + 20 Katana on protect + 20 torpedo Falx on atack PS: if anyone in interested in seing these fleets in action, I post on my channel a LOT of X4 combat footage
Hey dude, checked out your channel. Thanks for showcasing all the tests you've done! Takes some of the work off the rest of us who have curiosities like that. Preciate it!
Also took a look: those tests are an awesome content! Laser tower test made me want to give it a try. Are You going to test only vanilla game or is it possible to showcase some of the mods from the workshop? Like "Beam enhanced", which made those kind of weapons/turrets more than a flashy fireworks!
@@jeanwinter5275 I only play vanilla, in part, because I want to showcase fleet combat, with the "normal" game, with the "normal" AI, as in something that can be reproduced by any player.🤓
It was awesome to play through the terran-plot finding out how much stuff you get, especially just when the DLC launched and no spoilers where out! The best DLC so far. I find it too much of a temptation going for an Asgard and not spoiling myself with selling hundreds of new-built M ships to other Wharfs (read "printing money", lol)
Fighters with blast mortars seem to handle anything IS or OOS combat. Even a cheap ARG/ANT carrier with 40 blast mortar balaur or chimera can kill any xenon capital or s/m fleet with only occasionally losing a fighter or two. No escort needed really. A handful of cheap Odysseus destroyers (4 large Plasma turrets, 12 flak medium) can park 8K from any station and let the plasma turrets do the destruction pretty safely. Rattlesnakes are better, but much more expensive.
I like his videos : Its not to long or to short. Perfect long. He give enough information about any relevent stuff but in the end he give concrete ship with setup.
I like making wolf packs of Peregrines and equipping all the main weapons and turrets with bolt repeaters as my policing fleets. Flak turrets might be more effective, but I love seeing bullets spray everywhere then it finds a raiding squad to attack.
Hokkaido it is true that it is the slowest of the mining ships, but in terms of the rest of its characteristics it is slightly better than an average ship but it is certainly not weak, its strong point that I appreciated are its 9 turrets, all the other mining ships have at most 6 turrets. Having 9 turrets helps a lot in defeating groups of enemy fighters attacking you, something that other ships have more difficulty with.
Should notice, that ships could be destroyed during big battles if they docked on the surface of L , XL ships. So dont dock there your personal tuned with epic mods space vessel only to provide additional guns.
Syn with (4 L plasma set to attack my target) (4 L pulse mod for speed and damage) (2 M Flak) The pulse turrets will get fighters. I take down K destroyers with this all the time alone. Took 3 at once because they did not all rush me. Get 9k from K then start firing throw into full reverse good by K. I also found the eclipse to be very survivable fighters. Katana is best corvette as well.
My standard late game battlegroup: 1 asgard 20 gladius 10-15 osaka or behemoth Support fleet 1 argus or nomad 20 gladius 10 katanas 4 behemoth/osaka Everything else are ad hoc formations defined by the situation It worked fine in every playthrough
@@CaptainCollins 3 rattlesnake 10 katana 20 shih 1 condor and took frontier edge for my self with them a lot hits and runs but i think I'm getting the hang of it. Again thanks for the awesome videos!!!😍
Its kinda like rock paper scissors with ship combat. Fighter beats scout. Corvettes beat fighters. Destroyers beet frigates and corvettes. Bombers beet destroyers. Carriers usually beet bombers. But the AI tends not to use missiles or torpedoes much.
Asgard-Osaka's for ring camping is the best combo I've come up with so far (basically a stationary fleet... Asgard's aren't very maneuverable). With beam/flak turrets they handle S/M Xen's with ease (without needing a carrier and S's) and the Asgard tanks the Xen K's and the bigger one (I's?) without drama. I started in Getsu Fune and camped the ring for a while while I built up my base (which I'd relocated there for terraforming) then when ready I pushed them out of Savage Spur II and started building there. I camp the SS1 ring and farm Xenon for scrap. With the ring blockaded I set up a squadron of S's to patrol and get any small Xenon ships that make it past the big guys. My base is still in Getsu Fune but I find I have less friendly fire with the Terrans if I keep my military ships in Savage Spur. I had issues with Syn's, they don't perform as well as Osaka's against S/M targets for some reason (nice against cap ships tho)... but I'm going to try Rattlesnakes. Osaka's rarely seem to get turret damage but the Syn's turrets seem vulnerable.
Any reason you kept the wings on Defence and not the others? In my experience the subordinates would only attack whatever was directly hitting the Fleet Leader. I prefer either Attack (small ops) or Intercept (big ops). For the Katana I would definitely trade for 3 x Proton Barrage and 1 x Meson Stream, but the Meson can be expensive unless you make them yourself, works pretty good since Terran don't have much options. My Xenon Killer is simply a Raptor loaded with Chimeras, but any fighter is fine as long as it has the correct setup. Raptor: Split All-round engine, Terran XL MK2 shields, ARG Plasma L turrets, ARG Bolt M turrets (or ARG M Flaks), turret group shields = Terran 100 Chimeras (don't fill pads, I leave them free) Chimera: Split Combat Engine MK4, Terran S MK3 shields, Combat Thrusters MK3, 2 x Burst Rays MK2 + 3 x Blast Mortar MK2 2 wings, Attack and Intercept 80 Chimera on Attack ( or 70 depending on S/M enemy size ) 20 Chimera on Intercept ( or 30 depending on S/M enemy size ) 1 Raptor will do the job, but I always fly them in pairs, so always 2 ships and that's my fleet. I replace the Chimeras as needed. The best part of Blast Mortar if you ever need to use them is they have huge AOE damage. This means they can easily and quickly wipe out turrets on capitals and stations. This is super important on station busting Xenons because they always clump their turrets super tight. AOE damage is full damage, so you don't need a direct hit. Burst Rays are the anti-fighter on Chimera, but the AI pilot is still good enough to kill S/M with Blast Mortar even if they are rookies. Shields regen, but hulls won't, so those Xenon are never fresh. They also like to target subsystems, so Burst Ray is very good for that. Take down shield generator for a fast kill. With 160 Chimeras attacking and 40 on intercept, I don't have much trouble with this combo. I keep 2/4 destroyers on standby, Osaka and Syn in pairs for motivational support. Osaka + Syn: Split Engine, Terran Shields, ARG L Plasma, ARG M Bolt (or ARG M Flak). I have been experimenting with TER L Pulse turret as possible L turret replacement. A middle ground weapon that can hit S/M ship but have enough power to sufficiently hurt capitals. OOS, destroyer + Asgard defend gates. Raptors get played in IS only.
very good composition, in my case from the battleships forward there are always 5 combat ships and an auxiliary, I also have two small groups of frigates that are only to launch torpedoes and they are absolutely devastating and I am in the process of testing a big destroyer group to attack stations with heavy torpedoes also to see the result. and in an unmodified game I already faced a fleet of 12 paranid battleships and was defeated in that specific combat, because I don't know why I was attacked even though I had a positive relationship with them. It was after this combat that I came up with the idea of frigates with torpedoes, which in my second confrontation with the paranid was absolutely decisive in my favor.
My go to core is: Raptor; escort of 2x rattlesnakes or syns w/plasma; 1x gunboat for SAR (any will do, only have captain and 2x service crew); 2 groups of 8 chimeras running 3x desintigrators and 2x tracking launchers loaded with scatter missiles (they are my station/capital surface component killers); 4x Minotaur raiders for boarding; 2x groups of 4 asp interceptors w/split gattlings; 4x groups of 8 eclipse fighters running split gattlings (these are my fighter screens); 4 unassigned scout ships; and I aim to keep an unassigned reserve of 12 eclipse, 8 chimeras, and 8 asp on board too. I group my fighters so that the subordinate to the carrier, has its own subordinate set to attack its target. This way, instead of 8 fighters in a group all doing their own thing, I have 4 wings of 2. This increases their effectiveness substantially as they concentrate fire much more - so much so, that I have dropped my fighter groups from 20, to 8. I run the split gat because the spread makes up for the AI derp, and with the focus fire they chew through any enemy fighters very quickly. The raptor can hold its own against most caps so with 2 syns or rattlesnakes, it's scary good. Screen with the destroyers, then once they engage, bring the chimeras in. They will absolutely decimate the surface components and quickly cripple the target. The dropships (Minotaur raiders) are optional, but I like having that option available. Side note, while the gunboat on the dock adds to firepower, it can also take damage from capital weapons and I have lost several gunboats on the pad to this.
I have 2 xenon killing setups. 1: 3 Syn class armed with bolts in all large slots and missile turrets in small ones firing light smart missiles. Can reasonably fast deal with everything Xenon have except overwhelming amounts of capital ships. Also if needed I send a carrier to have a degree of force projection with mines, turrets and fighter squadrons. 2: Asgard with 4 destroyers. Again armed with bolt turrets. For fighting I and K spam. Can also deal with fighters too. I do not really like Plasma turrets very much due to poor range and projectile speed.
I am a damn sniper with the Asgard, I use the beam to strip enemy capital ships of their weapons and engines from a distance, then I send in Gunboats if theres another capital ship to disarm, or i just broadside it pirates of the carribean style. When i had to clear the vigor syndicate fighter swarm, i sniped about 20- 25 fighters with the beam, aiming directly below and swiping up as i fired while keeping aim on them laterally. worked 50% of the time lol. Asgard sucks against fighter swarm, having the jian on the med dock or even an astrid is an absolute MUST
Slightly offtopic (not that I can help it since I comment before the video is out) but I'd love to see a guide/recommendation on carrier loadouts for S fighters, i.e.: which qualities work best for the various roles (interceptor, etc.) in high and low attention combat (IS and OOS), which weapon loadouts work best (torpedoes are great for damage but the AI is horrible at using them, plus you need to resupply), how to best distribute your groups and roles for optimal performance (reckon that changes noticably between you using the carrier defensively to protect/patrol or to attack/siege). I've so far always avoided using carriers (except the Raptor, but I technically used that wrong as a battleship rather than a fleet carrier) since the fleet management, composition, etc. looks so easy to make lots of mistakes and at that scale it gets really expensive really fast. Plus I don't quite trust AI pilots ... Any tips, recommandations and shared experiences to assuage these concerns would be appreciated, not just from me, I'm sure.
... Torpedos are too slow for anything that moves and even against a Station require above AI skills to be effective. Most of all, they are too expensive! Guided Missiles are more (cost) effective. Guided heavy against stations and smart/swarm against moving targets that use flares. Which fighters to use depends heavily on your style and if you want to play strictly one race/tech or pick whatever works. For missiles the 5 slot fighters would be ideal to mix 4+1 but... the AI will make you cringe. It would fly into weapon range of a K or a Station to fire before even trying a rocket. Best results were to load fighters either with rockets or other weapons. This way the ones carrying rockets will less often try to dogfight the enemy. Launch them in groups so the "bombers" are not the first ones to reach the enemy 😁 On a carrier or battleship you can use cluster rockets - enjoy the fireworks - from large (dumb)turrets against stations. You definitely need resupply auxiliaries AND lots of cash. A raptor in a good mix of L plasma and dumb fire turrets + couple of M tuurets will hold 2000+ missiles. Mix load out to your desire/target. And don't forget - having the money is one thing, but you need the economy to cough up missile parts on demand! Last but not least, a typical carrier fleet to hold a jump gate or clear a system would consist of 1 carrier i.e. raptor, 2 auxiliaries, 10-12 L i.e. rattlesnakes. 100+ fighters in the raptor, 10+10 M+S per auxiliary for defense. A couple o fast traders for resupply. At least the carrier and the auxiliaries should have 4* captains and experienced service crews. War is expensive ! Enjoy 😎
Now a days carriers tend to stay back from battle. So having things "attack with" the carrier seems silly. Interception duty needs to be done by swarms of your fastest ships. Catching things before they can escape. Corvettes make for good carrier defense. If something makes it past the interceptions it might need bigger guns to take it out.
Those are pretty basic fleets, but you should always have a fast transport split ship loaded up with lasertowers. Simply move this ship close to enemy fleet, put out all towers and run. Then with your group you flank the enemy as destroyers always attack point blank, exposing their sides. You can use same tactic (+ mines near) to take out station drone swarms. When xenon sectors are on their last legs, the stations can have up to 300 drones inside. Also its a good idea to invest into split carrier with flak and beam turrets only to work as AA ship. (and it carrys bombers to take out stations)
I always play with Terrans so I only use Terran ships and Terran equipment, my fleet compositions are as follows; Patrol Fleets { 1 - Syn Class Destroyer 2 - Osaka Class Destroyer 4 - Falx Class Frigates 6 - Katana class covers } Fleets { 1 - Class Asgard 1 - Tokyo Class spacecraft carrier { 40 - Cladius Heavy fighters 10 - Falx Frigates } 1 - Honshu support ship 3 - Syn Class Destroyer 6 - Osaka Class Destroyer } I organize my fleet leaving the Tokyo ship carrier and the three Syn class destroyers directly subordinate to the Asgard, the Osaka class destroyers I divide them leaving two destroyers subordinate to each Syn, this way, when the battle is very big and I need to command the fleet of A better way is just to give an order to a Syn and he will take his two destroyers Osaka along with him to obey the order, this organization is especially effective in battles against fleets. If this battle were smaller, I could give an order just to Asgard and everyone in the fleet obeyed. I divide the forty heavy fighters of the embarked group leaving twenty for interception, twenty for attack, the ten frigates I leave all for interception as they are very easy targets against capital ships. Patrol fleets are responsible for patrolling sectors. Fleets are responsible for blocking portals, attacking enemy fleets and enemy stations.
I Usualy go for a Syn Leading the formation supported by 2 Rattlesnakes and 2 Osakas. Great Raw Firepower and very good defense against fighters / Drones / Frigates. Beside to protect a waypoint for ennemy fighters and frigates... I discovered that Phoenix full M flak and L Beam are great against these.
Boron ray 12 ion and 3 sca plunderer sentinel with flak and plasma I can wipe out hordes of fighters and destroy k ships and stations. I haven't had to face an I ship yet. But in a previous game I used to use behemoth for the extra range with main gun. But I think Asguard or the paranoid destroyer also worked well.
My standard battle fleet to date is. Asgard, two Syns, colossus carrier and support ship supported by 4 behemoth destroyers. Each ship has 2 dragon gunships as escort except carrier and support each have 4. Support ship has 4 mercury medium traders each with 2 eclipse heavy fighter escorts. The colossus has 10 dragon heavy bombers and all the ships have max capacity heavy eclipse fighters. 320 heavy fighters in total.
Xenon killer: late game i tend to build a few 40-70 sized fleets consists of ~5 asgard rest multiple type of destroyers. This tends to destroy the game entirely, leading to horrific fps, given the fact that the economy spans all galaxy too, fun times. The purpose of this strategy is to 1shot the galaxy on 1 trigger pull with complete blitz style. I avoid carriers, once i created similar number type carrier fleet with around 1k+ ships in total, was a bad idea lol (for my fps).
It is true that the composition of the enemy fleets is not very large, but when we attack stations in enemy sectors, nearby ships usually come to the rescue, for example, yesterday when my fleet attacked a zenom station in the Cascade sector of Tharka XV, the zenos sent all their destroyers that they had nearby, my fleet faced 3 or 4 groups that arrived in the battle, in total there were 6 K class zenon destroyers and 1 L class, I don't use plasma turrets as I only use protectorate equipment, so facing a zenon fleet This size is sure to defeat. That's why I use huge fleets. My record facing zenos was 9 K destroyers that were attacking the Telades in the Mercado Aberto sector. Against other factions, my record was 10 Paranid destroyers that appeared to protect their station in the Second Contact II Conflict Focus sector. For everyone who wants more intense and complicated battles I say, stop using plasma turrets, they make life a lot easier, when you play without plasma turrets you will know how difficult it is to face zeno fleets.
I stil wonder what is do you suggest in fighter setup and commands that you do not run n the situations that all your fighters are hunting a single scout to the edge of the galaxy while your destroyer and carrier a getting oblitareted by fighters
I usually split up fighter groups into 10. Use up all the alpha to Kappa wings. 1 on def 1 on attack with. Most on intercept. Each wing seems to take things a bit different. But yes I have seen my battle group go chasing a N half way across a sector. If you see that usually you can just tell the carrier to recall subordinates.
@@Eclispestar I am trying to do fighter wings, 1 fighter leader and 4 Wingmen on protect fighter leader command. so usually they fly in group. but i didn't test it in a big engagements
You keep your S-class on your carriers always. You really only need Attack and Intercept wings. Intercept makes them prioritize S/M in the carrier's radar range. The carrier should be near your Destroyers anyways so they get coverage. Each unit in Intercept wing will pick their own individual target, but they can sometimes pick the same targets. When you make your carrier attack, it will use the Attack wing to launch attacks and it will fly away (engaging the target) from it's target and park a safe distance unless the target keeps chasing it. If you need to go in depth, you can customize the fighter wings inside the wings on the carrier. Say, you want a S-class Flight Lead, place 2 fighters on Attack wing on the Flight Leader. Those 2 will only attack whatever the Flight Leader is attacking. If you put them on intercept, they'll just intercept whatever comes near the Flight Leader, picking their own targets or the same targets randomly. If you have a Raptor, you don't need to go into too much detail on Wings and sub-wings, etc., just the carrier will suffice for most operations.
@@morevdelta1138 I would be happy to make a short guide, but I have to wait on a new hard drive for my PC before I can make more videos. Maybe you could request Captain Collins to do a short guide in the meantime. JK Ninja might have something, but I haven't checked all his videos yet.
My Xenon killer fleet is stupidly overkill. It consists of one Asgard (pilot by me) escort by 13 destroyers (3 behemoth, 1 Odysseus vanguard, 2 oddy E, 1 Syn, and 6 Phoenix E), an Orca, and a Shark escort by 7 corvette, 1 frigate and 64 nova vanguard. Most of which is all “borrowed” except the Nova’s. Hence the odd random grouping. Haven’t had a chance to earn any of the Split destroyers or etc because Xenon were taking over my map so I had to go on the rampage and back them off before the split are wiped out and my ability to get split ships dies with them.
7:22 That's not quite true. I have already run into a group of three Xenon battleships with at least 5-10 corvettes and 20-30 fighters. They were destroying all the Argon and I was trying to help. It was impossible with what you have at the beginning.
My Xenon killer is a plain dumb 10-12 Asgards. Even 2 or 3 such fleets: one clearing the sector, others are blocking gates. In this way whole sectors could be cleared by OOS combat relativaly quick and safe.
@@CaptainCollins select fleet -> order "attack station" -> mind your own business -> when return, that station is no more. Unfortunately, overall AI dumbness could lead to some losses, it fleet left unattended. But thats quire rare in case of Asgards, due to their attack range. That approach would work for Syns also, but they tend to foolishly die: expected losses are 1-3 of Syns per station, so Asgards are cheeper in a long run.
@@CaptainCollins yeah, Rattlesnakes without babysitting are just bad. Suddenly, but Raptors also not-so-good: they are ok in IS combat, but they die like flies in OOS. Asgards is a way to go, if one wants to just clear sectors without too much attending.
My xenon killer is 6 groups with 8 Sin in each. And teleporting inside the ship closest to the eventual K or I.That's it. I have all the top of the map green ^_^
would you say any of the boron large turrets are worth trying out as well? since you didnt have them when making this video. or should i wait untill you make a video about that?
boron turrets are boron-only, so kinda useless to talk about. and a "police fleet" is more like a fleet that is attacking enemies in a sector :) The police behavior is useless.
I've not been playing for long but I have been quite successful at taking out xenon capital ships with a Behemoth and 4-5 hydras. The hydras seem to be good at creating distractions and can take a lot of hits, while the Behemoth sits at range doing the real damage... This doesn't work on stations though, my hydras can't take that sort of a beating so just a couple of behemoths taking shots at range seems to work
I just played the Terran Fate of the Yaki, 6.0 beta, and watched the intervention fleet with an Asgard get burned to the ground in Tharka's Cascade XV. Waves of I and K fleets. I just went on wiith my Syn and vaporized the Amplifier. Then the Terrans sent a fleet with a carrier as the commander then a fleet with an Osaka. All got vaporized. I've had playthroughs with aggressive Xenon but this is crazy. Didn't help that the fleets kept attacking the Xenon stations... is this a 6.0 beta thing?? LOL So should what do I include in a fleet on a playthrough with Xenon that take out an Asgard fleet like it's an S class ship?
Well my fleets are to large then apparently. My main fleet has 20 Behemoths plasma and flak with a few of them having pulse instead of flak. All with 7 eclipse vanguards on defense and interception and 8 Nemesis' on those two roles as well. 8 Colossus almost all eclipse vanguards. I just finished building a Colossus and it's fleet of Ares with all blast motars. Haven't tested it out yet. I also haven't tested this fleet out yet in it's current form. This is two different fleets that I combined together one of which was my paranoid Xenon defense fleet that was guarding the jump gate leading to faulty logic after spotting two I's in those sectors and losing sight of them at different times and my main battle fleet. Turning it into something that might actually ruin my FPS. Especially since a few of my Behemoths don't have fighters yet.
Its a real shame there arent any M-L sized carriers that only focus on fleet control. But since there are no "fuel" or "ammo" limitations in the game (except for missiles) i guess that point is moot. Like in X3 you could blink/teleport/hyperspace yourself into battle. Which you cant in X4 and only capital ships had that capability. But is it viable to have like 10 Gladius with Meson Streams for M-L Xenon ships? S-class ships are generally cheaper to get a fleet of. But those Gladiuses would be sitting ducks after firing so they would need a squad of anti-fighter fighters/a couple of Jians defending them. There are also a bunch of bleed weapons in the game that bleeds through ships, is that a viable use against capital ships?
Frigates can sport a escort of a bunch of def drones. And deploy mk2 laser towers. Fun trick is to see where the most common mining locations the AI pick and laser tower the heck out of them. Or place mk2 towers around xenon solar power stations.
there are auxiliary ship that serve as "small carrier" but they don't really have much use since carrier are not much more expensive. honestly carrier isn't worth the trouble for local defence, just have fighter center on a frigate or destroyer. as for Gladius, I don't really recall Xenon has L ship, they skip straight to XL, which mean they explode when kill which will kill S class ship near them. they can work but u have to expect ship lost. if you really want to use terran S ship, most people will recommend going for faster and smaller ship that are harder to hit and cheaper to lose, the Gladius's animation also mean it take them longer to deploy. most will not go for Meson since it is expensive as hell (they cost more than the ship they are on!) unless you are making them yourself, even then it still a pricey fleet. the only player i know that goes for Gladius, are those that love the style, cause it cool to watch their animation.
@@Eclispestar Unfortunately the AI loves to mine very far above or below default height. commanding ships to anything in those areas is absolutely awful. I take it you would fly these manually? I'm tempted to say that the Y axis should just be deleted if the devs can't make a decent attempt at navigating it.
Full meson stream is way too expensive if you're buying, not worth the returns when the ships blow up. If you want to keep mesons and Terran tech, the best combo I'd suggest is 3xProton Barrage + 1xMeson Stream. This way you keep their anti-fighter S/M role, but keep enough punch to blow a hole in bigger ships. The combo works good in OOS or IS, but just remember that Xenon capitals would destroy them in OOS, so you have to switch to IS fighting against them. A good stop gap you can try is Thermal Disintegrater from Split, but they won't help much in OOS with their lower DPS, they're better in IS. If you want S-class fleet, stay cheap, and build lots for taking down capitals, but only effective IS, they melt in OOS.
1 Asgard + 1 Syn + 1 Raptor (with or without the fleet - dosn't matter. Take it just for 104 turrets) L-Turrets- all palsma, M-Turrets-all flak - and there you have a small but all around capable fleet that can destroy/deffend anything? \_(O_o)_/
what exactly is a police fleet, is it the police behavior? I'm not entirely sure what that one does. As for protecting a sector there doesn't seem to be an easy way, I have some katana on repeat order attack all units in this area all over the sector, but still kha'ak manages to slip through and damage, and in rare cases kill my small/medium miners. I wish you could have ships in a sector, policing for example, that react when a ship is under attack and go help it. The police behavior did not do this in my short test, and even if it did, you can only do it in claimed sectors.
wiped out the xenon with one raptor, 100 small fighters, 20 medium frigates, 30 rattlesnakes, two auxiliary ships. Took a bunch of losses along the way, but it was enough to wipe them off the map, despite their massive spread.
I managed to create a Boron Hydra production line, I was shocked when 12 corvettes destroyed the Xenon K and a group of smaller ships without any problem. Tomorrow I will have 100 of them...
For the battleship fleet, I wouldn’t use plasmas… I’d use large beams. The Asgard has more than enough capital killing power in its main weapons, so it makes sense to dedicate all turrets to anti fighter duty, and large beams are the best large anti fighter turret.
I am new-ish ... my fleet is overkill (i got 3 self sufficient warf/shipyard stations...) [Mostly funded by xeno-gate stations; large defensive stations with solar panels and scrappers onboard. Ships fly through the portal... die and i basically print building mats for my massive stations) My strongest fleet; - 1 Asgard - 6 syns (plasma, flak) - 10 behemoths (plasma, flak) - 1 Carrier - 20 shih (mortar) - 20 shih (those shutguns from split) - 20 shih (thermal)
Hello Captain, Thks for this video 😁 For my fleet I'm naughty, I'm using only destroyers and have about 10 of them versus Xenons. That's hit hard and fast and so they don't have enough time to kill one of mine. And I'm using as well argon, paranid, teladi and split ships 😊 But I still d'ont do Terran missions 😉 I'm already doing the tip of landing a M ship on destroyer to get more fire power. But, I'll try to get closer your composition 👍 Thanks and keep doing good guide and advertising 😎 _Waric
man, i've been doing gate defense in Hatikvah's Choice because I didnt want to do laser tower spam, and just the sheer amount of PEs, Ms, and Ns they throw at that sector is NUTS. my Katanas, and Jians just get chewed up before they can make a difference. how would you recommend fighting a furball of over 30 xenon corvettes and fightercraft without resorting to 300 laser towers at the gate :p
modded game 1 kyoto as a flagship /4 eureka 8's as support/2-3 honshu for auxiliary 200 tornadó fighters (with atleast 1 torpedo launcher each) and how ever many m class anti fighter jians or dragons i can fit under each eureka 8's command 4 syn's destroyers 8 cruisers (which ever have the most guns and suit a specific purpose for me haven't really settled on a good looking one yet) and 10 ergets for anti fighter and l ship harassment I also have x10 for produtcions and habitats and 100m storage with modules that give resources for energy cells and so many ship mods its beautiful I also recommend restock subordinates and ship analyze thats the main fleet anyway or INDOMITUS fleet primus
So my fleet of 12 gorgon heavy torpedo boats, 40 eclipse vanguards w burst ray, and 40 pulsars on each shark with 7 sharks. Plus 10 sting rays is over kill? It certainly kills my computer lol.
No wonder why I'm lagging, I run 4 fleet of Carrier with all 130 ship in each one of them, defended by 2 Asgard -> 2 Rattle -> 5 Dragon. With the supply ship behind that have a little fleet of their own xD
I use mods lol. Terran ships are just so gorgeous. Idk what mod does I'm running 4 destroyers and 2 battleships and they cant even take on one xenon battleship. I think it's a mod that makes em this hard... VRO maybe?
I‘m a newb at this but one thing i‘ve learned, never order anything to attack those branch 9 destroyers, order em to attack their turrets, then nothing can go wrong… most of the time…
Asgard? All beams in every slot because the reason you bring it is to use the big beam. Let it dakka smaller shipsmwith veams, beammbig things with a bigger beam and everyone else can mess with plasma.
I really wish we had more options. Frigates, actual frigates, and not the M class Gunships that they just call Frigates. Geleitschiffe, Destroyers, Cruiser, light and heavy and the good old Battleships. And all without any guns. Only turrets.
hi, i'm actually constituing a fighter fleet for my Raptor. do those fighter need a minimum speed like SPL engine mk2/3 ? do I NEED TO fight with the raptor + fleet OOS ? it's confusing getting information from 2018 to 2023. After "the twins" mission i'm -15 with VIG, i'm not sure i can get standing back so i may take Ares ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Thx a lot !
Xenon fleet killer? Syn, two or three Phoenixes (gained by pirating pirates), and that's plenty. Xenon sector killer? Same group plus an Asgard. Once you get an Asgard, the Xenon are pretty much done.
Asgard is imba -- it can kill anything. I only struggled with the syndicate guys (Avarice) that send swarm of S ships with missile launchers. So as soon as you get your first Asgard with all beam turrets, everything else becomes redundant in a fight. And that is also sad, having just 1 of them you can wipe Xenon sectors one by one. Got surrounded by dozens of Xenon M/N ships? -- No problem they don't even put a dent in the shields. It can be overrun by an I and several K ships, but after that you load game, change strategy and kill all of them by flying backwards. 😅 I also remember in my game, when Terran started fighting Argon, there was an Asgard that killed everything in Argon prime, and they couldn't do anything about it. I wanted to help Argons in any way, but couldn't because didn't want to loose reputation. That's unfair. If you use L-miners, Khaaks are not a problem. If you want to help, khaaks are so weak, it seems that any decently equipped M ship can clean them.
Khaak indeed are more of a neusacne... and all my fleeets currently have an Asgard and just sit in gates where the AI nations cannot handle them. Basically untill i can build a 'Xeno-Gate defence/scrap' station there.
eee its not fair then if you reload the game!. play it half-hardcore, if you loose your asgard then you loose it! no reload. It will make you play smarter and safer, maybe you could add some back up for it! All games can be cheesed out. It is up to us to put ourself some self-limitations to improve our experience
Xenon K killers are definitely not destroyers. Unmoded game my pilots tend to go silly and turn away from Ks and get destroyed. A wing of Kukri's with a dumfire a Meson stream and a mk2 pulse gun is not to bad. But for bombers I really like Discoverers. Cheep fast and with 2 mounts for a scout ship. Have 2 torpedo launchers with hev torpedos. Say 10 of them. Things go boom.
I have. Lots of big explosions! Thing with torpedo bombers they need to do their AI controlled turn around fast to avoid dieing to turret fire. In my experience using Hev Fighters or slow ships vs stations just tend to get them killed. But you need to bait def drones out with a destroyer harassment. Back it off to a prepared laser tower cluster. Def drones are no big worry.
My XEN killer used to be Asgard x5 with only TER Beam turrets. TER Beam turrets used to be enough to protect the Asgards from every XEN ship (including Ks) while they destroyed XEN stations with their main guns. But now they buffed XEN and going all Beams is no more viable. They will destroy your Asgards if they jump on your neck. You need Plasma Turrets to defend from Ks (ARG is the choice with good visual and stats). And to defend against blobs of Fighters and mediums the 6 M turrets are not enough. You need a desrtoyer with a lot of Flaks. Rattlesnakes would be best choice on paper, but if you go in sector with a lot of XEN they go down, so Syn are more viable for me. In this scenario I don't like carriers or mixing with M class ships, becouse you will lose a lot of fighters and M class, and the logistics are too much for me, especially if I use bombers. So 5 Asgards L Plasma and M beam, 10 Syns L plasma and M Flack, a Jian with Flacks parked on every Asgard is my go to XEN sector cleaner, and if I babysit them I usually don't loose any (maybe some time the Jian parked outside gets blown).
I think this argument brings out what for me is one of the greatest limitations of the game: the absence of strategic coordination in the enemies. Trivially, once you have a couple of XL ships and a little more, you can slowly conquer the entire universe without any particular fear and this makes the advanced parts of the game particularly boring. Right now the fleets consist of a few ships sent there seemingly at random to destroy or be destroyed, with no scouts, reinforcements, logistical coordination, support fleets, etc. Instead, where there was strategic coordination, things would be much more interesting, and even talking about a "preferred fleet" would have a relative meaning, because depending on the characteristics of the fleet to be faced, different approaches and tactics would be preferred. Personally I hope that the game can evolve in this dimension in the future, because otherwise, apart from the "wow effect" of the first few bars and the various DLCs, it always risks getting lost in a sea of boredom.
They may not seem very smart, but when they build three defense stations all within eachother's drone range and a Xenon I shows up with its fleet just in time for two random Ks+fighters to pop, in I was glad I had extra Syns under construction >:D
Want more difficulty? Stop using plasma turrets, I guarantee that this will make the game more complicated, especially when facing the zenos, the absence of a plasma turret in your fleet will force you to use new strategies. For example, I only play with Terrans and I only use Terran equipment, so I had to learn to play without a plasma turret, even though I've already adapted to playing that way, whenever Zenon destroyers appear it gives me butterflies in my stomach, when L comes so I know things are going to be tense
My main battle fleet war against Xenon long time before split and terrain DLC exist was 1 XL Atlas, about 10 odysseus, about 10 bombers, and about 50 heavy fighters with 1 nodan as wingman at each heavy fighter, first I cleaned a xenon sector from all s and m ships with fighter,s then I send all bombers and fighters destroy first I ships then K ships one after one they have no chans worst cas was 2 I and 7 K, after that I send in L ships for take out Xenon stations, today xenon not exist in my star system, litle boring they was to easy to destroy and I have always only use same saved game from beginning to the last DLC, are waiting for next DLC have about 1950 houer in that game
If you feel like having some dumb fun at some point check out the ragnarock mod, it's basically the asgard's bigger, meaner brother and it is a beast. It's basically cheating so probably not going to be part of a full playthrough but if you get to endgame and decide you want to steamroll a xenon sector just to decompress before starting a new game it definitely does the job.
First time I recorded X4 in 4K... it's so crisp! Remember: this is with a GTX1080 :O
Looks very nice. But watching it on a phone. Might not do it justice.
How do you get so many FPS.
@@ilyapodolsky7204 are 30 FPS many in 4K? 😅
@@ArthurOseven wow, 30 fps in x4?!
How long did it take you to put them? It’s my first time playing the game
I dont like turrets. They are too op.
Capt also has many videos going in detail on how to attack stations.

The most powerfull fleet in high attention:
1 Raptor, all beam in L turrets, all flak on m turrets, all split tech
60 torpedo Chimera, 4 neutron gatling + 1 torpedo launcher, atack with the carrier (full BM can also be used, I don't because my split fleet must use only split tech)
40 interceptor Chimera; 4 neutron gatling + 1 smart missile launcher, intercept for the carrier
this fleet will handle ANYTHING except station demolition.
Argon fleet composition, all argon tech:
1 Colossus flagship + 40 torpedo Eclipse, 2 gatling + 2 torpedo launchers, atack with carrier
1 Colossus + 40 interceptor Eclipse, 2 gatling + 2 ion blasters, intercept for the carrier
10 Behemoth, defend the Colossus flagship
1 aux ship + 20 Minotaur on defend + 20 torpedo boat Cerberus
Note: if you have destroyers in your fleet composition, you need an aux ship for repairs. An aux ship is slow and mostly defenceless, so the M ships protect against S/M ships (Minotaur) and capital ship ambush (torpedo boat Cerberus)
Paranid fleet composition, all paranid tech:
1 Zeus Vanguard flagship + 40 Theseus bombers, all BM, atack with the carrier
1 Zeus Vanguard + 40 Ares interceptors, all bolt, intercept for the carrier
10 Odysseus E, defend the Zeus Vanguard flagship
1 Aux ship + 20 Nemesis Vanguard + 20 torpedo Gorgon
Terran fleet, almost all terran tech (I use torpedo tech on Falx):
1 Asgard flagship
2 Tokyo + 40 Kalis each, intercept for the carrier
3 Syn + 3 Osaka (terran destroyers are so powerfull, that I don't need 10)
1 Aux ship + 20 Katana on protect + 20 torpedo Falx on atack
PS: if anyone in interested in seing these fleets in action, I post on my channel a LOT of X4 combat footage

Laser tower test made me want to give it a try.
Are You going to test only vanilla game or is it possible to showcase some of the mods from the workshop? Like "Beam enhanced", which made those kind of weapons/turrets more than a flashy fireworks!
Thank you for sharing your tests with us.
Rattlesnakes are better, but much more expensive.
jep mortars are op as f. as they splash the surface modules disabling them that way.
I like his videos : Its not to long or to short. Perfect long. He give enough information about any relevent stuff but in the end he give concrete ship with setup.
I hate too long videos. Started doing TH-cam because I got sick from people talking 20 minutes about something that could have been explained in 2.
@@CaptainCollins YOU ARE MY HERO ^^
I like making wolf packs of Peregrines and equipping all the main weapons and turrets with bolt repeaters as my policing fleets. Flak turrets might be more effective, but I love seeing bullets spray everywhere then it finds a raiding squad to attack.
For similar reasons I like to use Pulse Katanas, the quad shots look just right for me. But after that Bolt Repeaters.
Thanks!
Wow! Thank YOU so much 🥰
Hokkaido it is true that it is the slowest of the mining ships, but in terms of the rest of its characteristics it is slightly better than an average ship but it is certainly not weak, its strong point that I appreciated are its 9 turrets, all the other mining ships have at most 6 turrets. Having 9 turrets helps a lot in defeating groups of enemy fighters attacking you, something that other ships have more difficulty with.
Six blast mortars on pulsar vanguards are brutal. A tube launched swarm of them melts opposing cap ships.
My standard late game battlegroup:
1 asgard
20 gladius
10-15 osaka or behemoth
Support fleet
1 argus or nomad
20 gladius
10 katanas
4 behemoth/osaka
Everything else are ad hoc formations defined by the situation
It worked fine in every playthrough

Raptor: Split All-round engine, Terran XL MK2 shields, ARG Plasma L turrets, ARG Bolt M turrets (or ARG M Flaks), turret group shields = Terran
100 Chimeras (don't fill pads, I leave them free)
Chimera: Split Combat Engine MK4, Terran S MK3 shields, Combat Thrusters MK3, 2 x Burst Rays MK2 + 3 x Blast Mortar MK2
2 wings, Attack and Intercept
80 Chimera on Attack ( or 70 depending on S/M enemy size )
20 Chimera on Intercept ( or 30 depending on S/M enemy size )
1 Raptor will do the job, but I always fly them in pairs, so always 2 ships and that's my fleet.
How do you accurately replenish the losses of your Fleets?
Best Xenon killer ? about 40-60 mines and a spacesuit :)
Haha, yep agreed!
very good composition, in my case from the battleships forward there are always 5 combat ships and an auxiliary, I also have two small groups of frigates that are only to launch torpedoes and they are absolutely devastating and I am in the process of testing a big destroyer group to attack stations with heavy torpedoes also to see the result. and in an unmodified game I already faced a fleet of 12 paranid battleships and was defeated in that specific combat, because I don't know why I was attacked even though I had a positive relationship with them.
Launch them in groups so the "bombers" are not the first ones to reach the enemy 😁
On a carrier or battleship you can use cluster rockets - enjoy the fireworks - from large (dumb)turrets against stations.
Enjoy 😎

@@ArthurOseven I already am in the Collins Discord, but a guide to "how-to-carrier" would still be a nice thing to put out.
I always play with Terrans so I only use Terran ships and Terran equipment, my fleet compositions are as follows;
Patrol Fleets {
1 - Syn Class Destroyer
2 - Osaka Class Destroyer
4 - Falx Class Frigates
6 - Katana class covers
}
Fleets {
1 - Class Asgard
1 - Tokyo Class spacecraft carrier {
40 - Cladius Heavy fighters
10 - Falx Frigates
}
1 - Honshu support ship
3 - Syn Class Destroyer
6 - Osaka Class Destroyer
}
I organize my fleet leaving the Tokyo ship carrier and the three Syn class destroyers directly subordinate to the Asgard, the Osaka class destroyers I divide them leaving two destroyers subordinate to each Syn, this way, when the battle is very big and I need to command the fleet of A better way is just to give an order to a Syn and he will take his two destroyers Osaka along with him to obey the order, this organization is especially effective in battles against fleets.
WHAT?! Docked ships can still fire outside but not take damage? Amazing just learnt something new.
Do you tried Raptor with dumfire rocket turrets? It just erase Xenon I in 5 seconds. 500 heavy rockets is enough
X4 looks beautiful in 4K
Just watched it on our 4K TV and I am impressed... so darn beautiful!!!
That's the problem I'm having with only 30 ships.
Thumbnail looks good O7
@@Matrix2Strata017 thank you, I shall try. Still I would like to see some videos on it)))
@@morevdelta1138 I would be happy to make a short guide, but I have to wait on a new hard drive for my PC before I can make more videos.
Some people that play this game would call this a small reaction force 😅
Glad you're having fun and keep on Xenon-slaying 💪
7:15 it is Xenon I + 13 Xenon K + 1-2 Xenon H.
Asgard go brrrrr... pure insane damage :)
Try that with Rattlesnakes and the only thing you are doing from now on is replacing them 😂
@@CaptainCollins yeah, Rattlesnakes without babysitting are just bad.
This doesn't work on stations though, my hydras can't take that sort of a beating so just a couple of behemoths taking shots at range seems to work
What paint job are on these ships? Looks clean af
You set them all to defend? Does that work? Always had dozens of ships with diffent orders and none did what I thought they were supposed to
Its a real shame there arent any M-L sized carriers that only focus on fleet control.
Can't answer that, since I'm lacking the experience with this method. Though I believe some people in Discord know about it.
RAPTOR SPACEBUS ! Yay ! :D
In 4K ! xD
Would any of this change with the last DLC?
Looking fresh my man! Did you get a new camera?
Haha, nope ;) Just full of energy in the new office. Of course changed the setup a bit, but all the same parts :)
@@CaptainCollins Happy for you!
Where did you get the ship skin from?
wiped out the xenon with one raptor, 100 small fighters, 20 medium frigates, 30 rattlesnakes, two auxiliary ships.
1:56 for a moment there I thought you said Elite Vanguards
i have 2 squads of 10 rattlesneks, then some dragon raiders and cobras in an RRF role works for me
thx man!
Ships fly through the portal... die and i basically print building mats for my massive stations)
My strongest fleet;
- 1 Asgard
- 6 syns (plasma, flak)
- 10 behemoths (plasma, flak)
- 1 Carrier
- 20 shih (mortar)
- 20 shih (those shutguns from split)
- 20 shih (thermal)
Question why do squadrons I have setup to be intercepters keep rotating who is docked to my Cerberus
Hello Captain,
Thks for this video 😁
For my fleet I'm naughty, I'm using only destroyers and have about 10 of them versus Xenons.
That's hit hard and fast and so they don't have enough time to kill one of mine.
And I'm using as well argon, paranid, teladi and split ships 😊
But I still d'ont do Terran missions 😉
I'm already doing the tip of landing a M ship on destroyer to get more fire power.
But, I'll try to get closer your composition 👍
Thanks and keep doing good guide and advertising 😎

man, i've been doing gate defense in Hatikvah's Choice because I didnt want to do laser tower spam, and just the sheer amount of PEs, Ms, and Ns they throw at that sector is NUTS. my Katanas, and Jians just get chewed up before they can make a difference. how would you recommend fighting a furball of over 30 xenon corvettes and fightercraft without resorting to 300 laser towers at the gate :p
modded game 1 kyoto as a flagship /4 eureka 8's as support/2-3 honshu for auxiliary 200 tornadó fighters (with atleast 1 torpedo launcher each) and how ever many m class anti fighter jians or dragons i can fit
under each eureka 8's command 4 syn's destroyers 8 cruisers (which ever have the most guns and suit a specific purpose for me haven't really settled on a good looking one yet) and 10 ergets for anti fighter and l ship harassment
I also have x10 for produtcions and habitats and 100m storage with modules that give resources for energy cells and so many ship mods its beautiful
I also recommend restock subordinates and ship analyze
thats the main fleet anyway or INDOMITUS fleet primus
I've come across 12 K's taking down the trade station in Ianamus Zura 4.
VRO maybe?
Same here, VRO. When I go manually I kick their ass but when I order 5 destroyers to kill a Xenon XL they all die.
Only turrets.
hi,
i'm actually constituing a fighter fleet for my Raptor.
do those fighter need a minimum speed like SPL engine mk2/3 ?
do I NEED TO fight with the raptor + fleet OOS ?
it's confusing getting information from 2018 to 2023.
After "the twins" mission i'm -15 with VIG, i'm not sure i can get standing back so i may take Ares ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Thx a lot !
I literally just started playing, so my Xenon killer is that tiny ship you get from the Terran Recruit start.
Xenon killer, nice 😅
@@CaptainCollins unfortunately, I just lost that one in some kind of displacement/teleportation incident to the Grand Exchange.
Xenon fleet killer? Syn, two or three Phoenixes (gained by pirating pirates), and that's plenty. Xenon sector killer? Same group plus an Asgard. Once you get an Asgard, the Xenon are pretty much done.
Woah look at his credits in 10:13 cpt collins is rich 10,000,000,000 credits!?
Big Brain X4 commanders: "Here is my fleet composition."
Everyone else: Elite Sentinels... alot of Elite Sentinels............ALOT.
I also remember in my game, when Terran started fighting Argon, there was an Asgard that killed everything in Argon prime, and they couldn't do anything about it.
That is indeed a viable option. Need to try that. Ever tried that on stations?
Just starting the game, I have so little idea what half of the things you are saying mean. 🤣
Need more cobras
i once broke the game when i sent 2 carriers with full shield peircing weapons... terra stand no chance.
Play it like the swarm, heavy fighters only and swarm the univers. Rip your PC 😂
