For all those who comment that the conductor is "joking around". The purpose of the conductor being in front of the orchestra is to prevent the orchestra from falling apart, but that's not all, someone has to practice with that orchestra. I doubt that the composition "Tico Tico" would have been played like this if there was no maestro Daniel Barenboim. This is one of the best and even the best conductors in the world, and personally as someone who plays in an orchestra, I can say that it is not easy to be a conductor at all. Everything is made up on stage, but no one sees how it looks like the conductor is struggling in rehearsals. Congratulations to Master Conductor Daniel Barenboim and the orchestra

@@thaliarice3891 What does this even mean? Conductors set their own tone and instructions during rehearsals, which is why each performance of a given piece is interpreted differently. Barenboim is an accomplished pianist in his own right. He played one of the finest renditions of Beethoven Piano Concerto no.5 I've ever heard WHILE conducting the orchestra. He's a great musician, unlike some conductors who can barely play a lick and ride the coats of their orchestras.

This is great! I especially liked the way Mr. Barenboim took an understated approach to his conducting, letting the orchestra run its course for a bit. Shows how much he trusted his musicians. Bravo! Encore!
The piece is EZ!
I think he was understated because he wanted the musicians to follow the percussion and not rely on him for the tempo. That is not typical in classical music but it is in a lot of popular music.
This little clip always makes me chuckle! Barenboim really looks like he's having fun (cutting loose at 0:47 and 1:07! And the wink at 0:30!! A nice change of pace from the standard program (no disrespect to the standards intended!)

There isn’t much in a way of mechanically necessary conducting in this piece and especially with the Berlin Phil so it’s really just about giving as much of that mood and interpretation to that piece as possible

Important to remember Barenboim's place of birth... it was Argentina. Thus he has the right to be seen as a South American conductor! And to conduct South American music ! His genius with languages is astounding. I doubt I have enough fingers on both of my hands to give the true number with which he is fluent.
You really still have a lot to learn about Brazilians and Argentinians.

*Tico-Tico no fubá " ( passero dal colletto rosso nella farina di mais")* è una canzone corale brasiliana scritta da Zequinha de Abreu nel 1917. Il suo titolo originale era "Tico-Tico no farelo" ("passero nella crusca"), ma dal momento che il chitarrista brasiliano Américo Jacomino "Canhoto" (1889-1928) aveva un'opera con lo stesso titolo, l'opera di Abreu ricevette il nome attuale nel 1931, e qualche tempo dopo Aloysio de Oliveira ha scritto i testi portoghesi originali.
