      Every Japanese and Korean box can be weighed, they are very easy to weigh. I don't normally do the insert ones though. Been doing it for years. Before anyone comments mine are always labeled light when selling.

    I find it weird how Japanese packs no longer contain card inserts that prevented this weighing situation. I know people got around it but at least it made things a bit more difficult. Now it turned into a free-for-all. Also, Pat. Don't lie. We all know you just wanted to open more of this awesome set! Lmao.

      The answer is Japanese cards didn't really start to be faked until recently I started with Japanese after my vintage days and when I started just about a year ago boxes were going for 50$ plus 24-30$ shipping and you never had to worry because it came directly from Osaka from a reputable distributor

    • @oneseven7307
      @oneseven7307 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I think that only works at japanese sets, what scammers do at ours sets is open a booster box (wich usually has a certain number of hits) and when they take the hits just sell the other packs, so if u buy single packs u still can have a hit but is way difficult because of that.

    • @notryan2496
      @notryan2496 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You can still weigh them I'm pretty sure that the packs that contain full arts are still heavier, could be wrong but.... The way they make the textured cards makes them heavier still, so unless the code cards in those are even lighter they probably weigh a fraction more

    • @chiefbig6459
      @chiefbig6459 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Can’t weigh. I did a test with my brother. The code cards are weighted to throw it off. One I opened a holo on a “heavy” pack that was 1.5 grams heavier than a rainbow rare. What actually happens is these people buy a couple booster boxes. They grab a random pack and open until they hit the rainbow or full art trainer. Then sell the other 15-20 maybe even 30 packs depending on how “lucky” they are (I say lucky because F*** people selling out their booster boxes knowing the only valuable pull is gone)

    • @donoho93
      @donoho93 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chiefbig6459 u have to determine the variables.they most definately are weighable.heavy is only guaranteed hit in 3 card packs.10 card packs is more tricky. you have to figure it out.

    This kind of info is greatly appreciated. Scammers already know all the tactics to rip people off. Newer collectors need to educate themselves with this kind of info to protect themselves.
    Another step beyond what you showed here is that most Japanese boxes usually only have one "special rare" card, whether it be an alt art or rainbow. The scammers weigh the packs, rip the heavies until they pull that one card then they may pepper in one of the leftover heavies per X amount of packs they're selling so they don't blatantly look like they're ripping you off.
    PSA: If you're going to buy loose packs, make sure it's from a reputable source like a trusted game shop or subscription box. Always safer to save up those extra dollars and just buy a sealed box.
    Thanks Pat! You always deliver epic content! Both entertaining and educational.

    I saw some info about this a while ago with Magic cards. At least with Magic, I believe once box patterns had been mapped, those using the system would open a couple of 'reference' packs in order to find out where on the map they were, and once they had established their position they could figure out which of the rest were the high value packs.

    Chiming in late, but I opened 3x boxes of Korean 151 set, 1st box I didn't pay attention, but 2nd and 3rd box were very obviously mapped exactly same. I noticed weird pattern already with 2nd box, and then I opened 3rd box exactly the way so that I would open the SR pack as final one of the set, and it was exactly as I assumed it would be. Obviously I won't say how it was mapped but it was mapped.
    Another thing scammers do is open packs from box until they hit the SR and then rest of the packs are set aside and sold as loose packs. Rule of averages says that most of the time they hit SR middle of the way so they can still sell half of the packs as loose packs with no SR. This is why Japanese and Korean packs should only be bought in sealed boxes and never loose packs. Good thing is sealed boxes are much cheaper than English counterpart and you're additionally guaranteed some hits in each box (but also limited number of good hits).

    There use to be a card shop near me that would weigh packs. They'd opened the packs and sell the cards and keep the lighter packs in the box for sale. They'd also knowing buy stolen cards to. It got out that one of their employees was stealing from kids and selling the cards to the shop and they knew he was doing it. So they shut down to try to avoid being sued.

    Pat while modern era English cards are not able to be weighed efficiently, the recent reprint of DAA and VIV for various collection boxes have the code cards rushed and not properly filtered. That means that you can get a UR in green code packs and a regular rare in white code packs. This is not a for sure way of weighing them completely but, allows for about 1/3 URs to weighed out because the heavier green code is in some of the UR packs and the lighter white codes being in some regular rare packs.

    I'm taking a guess in that the way scammers weigh packs is That the "good cards, aka the Holos, Vmax" ect weight slightly more than the regular cards. If that is the case, is it not possible to add something to the regular cards that would either make them weigh the same as a holo, or add in a throw off card that weighs more than the holo that can be in every pack that would throw off the scale

    I would love to see the packs all weighed and ordered from heaviest to lightest, to see if there is a specific weight that you could say that anything lighter is a dud and anything heavier is a hit. Primarily as a frame of reference for people buying single packs. Because if I bought 10 packs, it would be hard for me to know what is heavy and what is light for each individual pack.

  • @hhjan594
    @hhjan594 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am very sure that Japanese packs can be weighed, but there is also a way to find hits in Japanese packs without weighing them.
    Since Japanese packs are 5-cards packs, it is actually possible to rub the packs with your thumb and other fingers and tell the difference between hits and non-hits. Since V-cards, VMAX, and Secret rares all have a different texture on the surface of the card, it feels different when the surfaces of the cards are rubbed against each other. Of course this will damage the card, but why would scammers care that?

  • @rustysphotography
    @rustysphotography 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I have been collecting for 6mths and already confirmed that weighing packs can easily predict the hits . Already only buy sealed sets and etb boxes . I reckon booster boxes will contain a lot of duplicate cards as they must print batches of certain ones . probably a store could get a delivery from the same suppliers and multiple boxes would feature duplicate good cards . buying from different stores should mix the hits as each store would have taken delivery at different dates and should then have been created at a different time and hopefully include a different selection of hits .

Japanese packs are very very weighable as you confirmed SR and Vmax are easily heavier cards and can easily be determined so only buy loose packs from trusted sellers. Great Video as always Pat :D

    How Konami fixed the pack weigh in is by putting a hollow in every pack

    I'm never buying singles of Japanese pokemon. Local hobby shop had a bunch of different Japanese booster boxes selling single packs. I've heard rumors about weighing and I was too nervous to buy any. After seeing this I'm glad I didn't. It's hard to trust people these days. Not to mention they wanted $5 per Japanese pack.

    Bruh the only reason why I would weight packs is when it’s vintage to decide wether or not to open it or keep it up for looks

    The mapping happens in cases!
    So if 1 box in a case has hit every 3rd pack lets say on one side, every box in the same case will have that pattern
    Random boxes from different cases won't have the same hits pattern!
    Weighing will work on Japanese packs but seems not to work on the North America side!

    I have done this myself with booster boxes I open. Although it's not 100%, the lightest packs pretty much have nothing good in them. I really don't like it (been burned hard when ordering a bunch of individual booster packs from Japan), but it is cool when I open a box and can save all the cool cards for the end so the pulls just get better as I open more.

    Vmax cards tend to be sorted pretty close to one another and also the stack that the Vmax containing packs also contained a full art card pack as well in 2/3 boxes you opened. Also the Holos seem to sort together as well, so if you have a lot of holos in the stack, you likely won't get a Vmax or a full art card pack in that stack.

    I was in Japan a couple months ago and went to buy some card packs(no pokemon) the store clerk opened a new box and the first thing he did was to shuffle all the packs before letting me pick them.

    I already knew that you can weigh packs for hits because I had 2 packs of the same set (i forget which one at moment) where one was heavier than the other, the lighter one was a standard hollow, the heabier one a hollow palkia

    While this is a very interesting study and even though this is the newest set, I feel like it’s a bad sample to use because it’s been widely documented in the community to be riddled with factory error boxes. Boxes where you can get no SR or higher hit, or in extreme cases, 3 SR or higher hits. This is extremely uncommon in Japanese product, but no doubt caused by the very high demand for product and lack of quality control.

    Honestly I’ve thought this for a while but I doubt the Pokémon company would do it but. Why not make the packaging vary in weight? Randomize the packaging to make it a bit heavier. I realize this is a lot to ask and would probably be a huge engineering undertaking but. If they made random packs packaging heavier. Say they added an extra layer of plastic or foil or whatever they use to wrap around the packs so it’s just that tiny bit heavier. Or the flap at the back. Make it thicker to make it heavier. I’m sure maybe someone will find away around this, but why not make it as hard as possible for people to predict. I doubt they’ll go through the effort though cause at the end of the day these people who flip and scalp just make them that much more money.

    Once bought 10 packs online from a store, for my kids. All duds - had a feeling that they had weight them before sending them.
    Since they also sell single cards, they could keep the good ones for themselves 🤷🏻‍♂️
    Maybe it was just bad luck. But since then, we only buy sealed tins, boxes etc. Never bulk packs.

    I collect every oddish family card and I had to look at that awesome Medicham card real close to check if there was any there. I both like it and feel bad for my wallet when I spot it as a cameo in an expensive card.

    Mapping is part of the game. I ordered lost abyss and managed to get a box with one full art in every booster and still only got the $2 v giratina out of one pack. It's part of the play as I understand giratina collects all pokemon and puts them in the alt dimension or something

    Another idea you should of done with the scale was write down the the weights of each pack with yellow sticky paper to see if it made any difference if it was heavy or light that would of had a rare card in it.

    If Japanese cards were worth more it would be crazy because back in the day they would put a holo in every pack and booster boxes had 60 packs.

    I gotta say it...let's get more info on Chilling Reign ...why are pull rates SO abysmal? Can these be somehow mapped? Everyone who got the CR "apology" 3pack from Pokemon Center has noted ZERO pulls in the packs ...so they had to know which packs to send in these. That's the current suspicion anyway. 🤷🏼‍♀️

    Someone claimed on Internet that they were using a very precise scale to find hollow packs. He said he was raiding all local markets with his friends and cherry pick those packs. I always wondered if it was be true or just an urban legend.
