    As a customer with a “cookie cutter build” I can honestly say it’s the best car I’ve ever owned. Not only is it an absolute asskicker with 1209WHP and 972WTQ on $2/gallon pump E85, but it drives so effortlessly, that I often take my wife out to dinner in it. My little kids are always clamoring for daddy to take them in the 997.1 turbo. Fastest car you can daily drive with a man pedal hands down. Will never sell this car

    Glad I found your channel! I rebuilt my 996 Carrera to 4.0 and forged rods on my channel. I just bought a 05 Turbo S. Came with a Cobb tuner and a stage 3 clutch, upgraded Cobb injectors, fuel lines.

    damn right you're protomotive and it will be better than anyone could imagine!!! love the long format content.this video is f-ing rad!!!!! i love the point by point and steps to building a mega stroker motor. people think that any 911 turbo is the same like why doesnt your 996 have 800hp with a tune the answer-stick your head back up rear end where it belongs. i alway disliked the 996 until a year ago.with taking care of my brothers 993 turbo i thought the 996 was mutiny and had to be stopped blasphemy(Crappy speller) but ive since really grown to love it like i love the 997. its nice to learn that each set of upgrades in turn requires you to have to upgrade the systems to handle it responsibly and not foolish. these cars are not as plentiful as the years go buy and the values have really went up but its still the most economical to buy but will need way more mods than a 991.2 with a fullbolt-ons and a tune. great work Todd. i really hoping to see more longer more in depth videos. i still available for adoption and it would be disrepectful to ask for your bueatiful daughters hand in marrige so i pray for the adoption. i'll be the best employee you will ever have. until then cheers

    Thanks for sharing all the knowledge. I am having a blast with my XR980 + stock longblock on 93 octane + meth (~680 whp). Honestly would love to build a motor one day but it's not in the cards for a few years! I may play it safe and detune slightly to keep this motor happy for a while longer :)

    • @hatemsgarage
      @hatemsgarage ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@protomotiveAwesome ! I know you mention the pros / cons on Methanol... for a setup like mine, would you prefer to see it just on pump fuel with a good set of intercoolers? I have stock X50 coolers at the moment so that will limit me if I were to ditch the meth. I am spraying 100% methanol at the moment and not sure if I love the added complexity / risk.

    • @protomotive
      @protomotive  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@hatemsgarage this comes up often. We talk about it again in our latest video th-cam.com/video/URrr1Xv7j0o/w-d-xo.html
      As long as you have safeguards in place you can really reduce the risk of running your car if the meth runs out. The simplest is hooking the meth bottle low meth switch to your boost control to turn it off if the meth runs out. There's flow meters with the AEM systems that'll monitor flow and provide a warning if the flow falls out a window of normal running. Pump+meth is far safer to run at the power level you're at than pump alone. You'd probably end up around 600 on pump alone vs. 680 with meth to maintain a decent safety factor. If you have E85 available and could convert over you'd have no worries since the octane is so high and it burns so cool. The meth could be diluted to 50/50 or less and run as a cooling only if you're in a very hot area. Or some areas have 100 octane at the pump. Just look at your need there and it'll guide you to the right decision. Is it more about safety, power or cooling? They all have different advantages and disadvantages. We've been asked to produce a video on fuels alone since it's such an important part of producing safe power. So look out for it! It'll probably be after Part 2 of the avoid these mstakes before modding your 997 turbo video we just put up.

    Very informative! But make's me wonder - what about the gearbox? What's the journey of upgrading there?

    • @protomotive
      @protomotive  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      They're amazingly strong. First weak link is the diff side plate if you track drive and aggressively downshift. For power the fun starts around 1000hp. But for occasional fun you can run 1300 to 1500 in these things. If you like Texas mile and airport stuff you'll want straight cut gears in 3rd and 4th along with a trans cooler and pump to keep the fluid where it should be. This is all for manuals. Tips start around 600hp where we send them off for 1000hp upgrades

      I apologize for being inconsistent there. I did try to show hp or whp on the side if you catch it. The gt1 power ratings and bsfc calcs are crank #s but beyond that I'm pretty much referencing whp from our dynapack 4500 4 hub dyno.
