Hey Todd, Bill made better heads at Xtreme for me! Cooling of the last génération machining is way better for température ontrol at high boost . No problem for few 200deg peaks on RR350 Xtreme heads . But the porting+valve size setup done on this heads you show looks great ..specially on exhaust D-shape work 👍 unfortunally i not see Oring seal on exhaust them we have to use old 3,2/3,3l turbo seals i suppose. Thank you for this Vidéo Todd❤
@@cyrilperroud1130 that's awesome to hear! Yes a conventional gasket is used on the exhaust side on these. I'm sure Pauter would be happy to machine an oring groove in the exhaust flange if we requested it. Be sure to watch the next video in this series. I go over the strength of the different alloys vs temperatures. There's some surprises in there for sure!
Lol, "Well, NO"...
Just when you think you got it.... I say otherwise.
Corrections. The stroker crank is 82.4 in the engine these are going on. I'm told that the Xtreme heads are now made of the better RR350 alloy vs A356
These are very nice. Can be made for 911, 930, 964, 993 and turbos. Any valve and port configuration as well. Very fun!
Sweet!
Wish I could understand all that tech and how it works
@@kidnplaye4630 is there anything in particular I can help with?
I'm not a big fan of meth injection but if I had an aircooled turbo I'd consider it. Have you ever seen meth plumbed into an IC?
Yes, but be sure to put the nozzle on the outlet tank. You never want to fill the intercooler with meth.. It'd be a bomb waiting to go off! Meth inj does have a purpose and functionality and when done right. It cools very well and raises the octane and only consumes when in boost. Otherwise you drive on normal fuel when you don't need it.
Do you have a watercooled version of this jig?
Yes :). We also have many mini jigs where we produce headers, exhausts, intercoolers, ypipes and all kinds of goodies for 996tt and 997.1tt. Even 991.1/991.2tt xpipe exhausts :). What are you after?
Great Job as always!
Thanks!
Very cool to see. Awesome work TK!
Lol, thanks :) I thought the POV of the boring head was pretty different, so I had fun with it :)
@@protomotive Are you at all nervous machining these expensive cases or can you just do it in your sleep? LOL
@@joebolognio5508 The liability is high, yes. This particular one was a brand new 4.0 Gt3 case from Porsche with brand new liner carriers. And having to work with 0% defect rate should make anyone nervous!
@@protomotive Very impressive!! Well done!!
Yeah definitely one of those underappreciated jobs for sure!
I have a 987.1 boxster s ... Should I consider something like this to make more power? I've looked at TPC turbos as well.
@@HORUS9 the tpc kit has been a great option for a nice cost. There's another kit made in the UK by ern or something like that. It's similar in cost to the tpc kit but a twin turbo system. We tune a lot of cars for both kits. But haven't bothered with making a system for the boxster since there's not only those but many shops custom fabbing systems for them already. So check them out and give us a shout when you're ready to tune!

@@HORUS9 you're welcome.. It was mrn not ern sorry. Here's a link. The tuning isn't great for the US cars. Maybe good there. www.mrnracetechnologies.com/
@@protomotive I've spoken MRN before.... They only deal with the 3.4 DFI engines and mine is a bit older so TPC is basically the best option.
@@HORUS9 hmm. The MRN cars I've tuned were all 987.1 Caymans. Non dfi cars. Basically your car just a cayman vs boxster. Yeah, here it is. 987.1 version www.mrnracetechnologies.com/product-page/987-1-twin-turbo-conversion-usa. But the tpc kit may be more readily available. Actually I can get them for you if you'd like. do you have any tips for abs/psm issues after increasing boost with hybrids?
There are definitely a few annoyances with the Abs/Psm system on the 996tt. My personal car was doing a strange thing where it would tend to lock up the front right tire in cold weather right in the middle of a corner. That turned out to be the Yaw sensor in front of the shifter. No errors... On the track, the PSM tends to lock up when part throttling out of high speed corners. There's a hack for that where people install a switch to disable the yaw sensor once you're started up. it won't flag any errors, keeps the Abs on, but disables the PSM which is cool. The better way to go is to install a GT2 or Motorsports ABS unit and remove the psm. With that done, I can code out the PSM from the ecu and all is happy again. So, there's a few tips for ya :)
@@protomotive my yaw sensor was doing a lot of random shit on my Autel diagnostic
@@protomotive Fabulous info, do you have a link?
@@sidewayssam this is from Planet 9 forum. Actually the "wiring work" is really easy. Not harder than hard wiring a radar detector. Just locate the Yaw sensor under the carpet on the hump, by the drivers right shin. Cut the ground wire (brn/yel) and install a rocker switch between the two ends of the ground wire. When you want PSM OFF, turn the switch OFF. When you want PSM ON, turn the switch ON, and cycle the ignition. I soldered in longer wires an installed the switch on the trim panel under the parking brake. This trim panel is really cheap and simple to replace. Plus the switch is easy to reach. On the street or in the rain, I have it ON. On the track, in the dry, I ALWAYS have it OFF. actual link: www.planet-9.com/threads/psm-on-or-off.27747/page-3
@@sidewayssam Mine never flagged an error for it, but replacing it solved the issue I was having. I did find a Non-PSm ABS I was going to swap out, but never seem to get the time to tackle that one.

what's the number of the TSB for the oil gallery plugs? i can't find it! thanks
The TSB was on the 3.8 and 4.0 GT3 engine case freeze plugs, but is relevant to the 996tt/997.1TT engine cases as well. It was showing how to properly stake the freeze plugs in place to keep them from blowing out randomly. It was showing the large one by the bell housing on the bottom of the case, and the other large one inside the bellhousing. When you purchase a new engine case, they've learned the hard way and do stake them properly. I searched for it for a while and can't seem to locate it. When it turns back up, I'll shoot it over to you. It was originally sent to me by our distributor in the UK, NineExcellence. Ken may have it floating around.
Improved per... Improved perf. Improved performance! Got it.. :)
Lol, yeah, tongue tied.
you got it eventually :p
@@sammybalamby yeah....
You dont use Time-Serts or Helicoils with the 12mm studs?
No, the drill for the 12mm studs perfectly clears the original hole. For the 7/16" head stud kits we use timeserts since the difference isn't great enough to allow perfect threads. But the 12mm threads come out beautiful and don't require the extra work on timeserts. :) BTW, never use helicoil! Timeserts are nice. Helicoils come out and don't add any strength.
Always great work! Thanks Todd
With you as well!
Clutch switch disabled. Ever started it in gear?
Lol, yeah, only the US cars have a clutch switch. Apparently Porsche doesn't trust us silly Americans to not drive our car through the wall. Or the lawsuits they had early on forced the issue. Since all my cars have clutch switch disabled, it's just a force of habit to be sure they're always in neutral before starting.
I believe you can make alot more hp w the k24 due to their larger exhaust housing though.
Yes the k16s hit a wall in the low 600whp levels with big compressors where we've run k2471s up to 900 crank hp! We talk about that in our other video series as well :)
Another blockbuster video. Informative, and entertaining. Thanks Todd BTW, as one of his customers with all these mods on my 997.1 turbo, I can attest to everything he said here👍🏼

Thank you. And super smooth idle with 1680cc injectors! My tuner did an amazing job 😉
@@protomotive woah, are you running only 6 injectors? thats pretty tight for 1000hp on E, isnt it?
@@TheGreener121 We've run the 1650 and 1680cc injectors on E85 to 1280whp on our Dynapack4000 at 3.8 bar fuel pressure. So they have almost 20% headroom left at only 1000whp. They work well at 5.0 bar as well for a bit more. Then the next step are the 2150/2200cc injectors. They work nice on E85 but are not great on pump gas at idle / drivability stuff. We really like the 1650s since they're dual fuel capable and still idle and drive well even on pump gas :) The 1680s are E85 ONLY. I think it's the MTBE that they don't like, so be careful if you try to run C85 from VP racing since it has MTBE in it and will swell the seals closed. But yeah, I ran out of turbo on this engine well before the fuel system. But I do love the insane boost response and low end torque these make with a pull that never stops from the Gt3 intake :)
