    They don’t say it in the video but Rit dye doesn’t make black synthetic dye. The darkest will be a dark grey called “granite”.

    I probably should’ve guessed it but I dyed all my white shirts black and got a dark purple instead. Maybe subsequent dyings I’ll get a black color. It worked wonders on some shorts I got bleach all over though.

    Do I need to rinse with cool water when finished dying before using fixative? It doesn’t say? Do I just squeeze out? When you put it into the fresh water with fixative the water stays so clear straight off. Surely if the excess hasn’t been rinsed out it would bleed immediately? This is the only thing missing from this video and the written instructions.

    It's not cool that y'all don't reply to comments anywhere. I am trying to dye 100% cotton sheets from medium gray to jet black. I obviously don't have a pot big enough for sheets so I have to use the machine machine method. I tried using 1 bottle of the "black all purpose dye" and it came out dark gray with hints of purple and very splotchy/uneven. My stupid washer automatically drains itself so it drained half of the dye bath before I was unable to unplug it to get it to stop draining. Then I did a normal wash cycle (just water), a cycle with the fixative, and finally a cycle with detergent.
    Now I am trying it again. I unplugged the washer first so it wouldn't drain. I am using 2 bottles of "jet black" from the back to black kit AND 1 bottle of yellow to counteract the purple. I am doubling or tripling the bath time to at least an hour - manually stirring with a broom pole every 10 minutes. Unfortunately, once I plug the machine back in, it will drain itself so I am going to have to go straight from dyeing to using the fixative. I am hoping that locks in more of the black.
    Since Rit doesn't respond and doesn't provide instructions for using a washing machine AND better clarity on using the fixative, I will report back in a few hours when I finish. I will also post on TikTok later today so other users can learn from my mistakes!

    • @ritcolorcommunity
      @ritcolorcommunity  ปีที่แล้ว

      Logos are typically made of synthetic materials and so there is a chance the logo doesn't get dyed as this dye does not work on synthetics. You could try covering the logo with electrical tape. However, there always is a chance it does get a dyed a little.

    • @linusgoblin
      @linusgoblin 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Whatever you do dont follow that electrical tape advice, it will be 100% unefective. the only way is to unstitch it and sew it back after the cap is dyed.
