Mind blown! You remind me so much of myself at your age lol. If I saw something I wanted but it wasn’t in my budget, I made it happen. I tell my (grown now ☺️) kids all the time I was DIYing before DIY was cool. Sharing! ♥️
Just found your channel. I’ve been bingeing on your videos. Love them all. I’ve dyed a corduroy slipcover, charcoal, I did it in a big trash can outside. Thank you
What did u do with all of the dyed water when u were done because I was thinking about doing it in a trash can as well but I'm not sure what I would do with all of the leftover dyed water 🤔
Next time use long black trash bags on both your legs an just start stepping it with your feet get it nice an soaked into the fibers :) looks great good job!
@@NoelleTateHome how did u clean the washer afterwards so there was no trace of dye in it because I share my washer and dryer with another person here on the property and I'd hate for any leftover color to be in there and ruin her clothes
Just an idea next time when you line the bath tub with the plastic when you’re ready to drain poke holes in it where the drain is maybe that way it will all hopefully drain straight though!
Thanks for doing/sharing this! I've been telling my husband I want to dye our slipcovered sectional dark charcoal gray for a while now. He thinks I'm crazy and it will be a flop, but going to go for it!
Question. Do you think if you would have done it piece by piece you wouldn't have had the issue with the color difference. Also.. do you think if you would have done it the color would have been consistent. I also have a slip cover couch . But it's a very large sectional. About 2 times as big as yours. Using the bathtub would be out of the question as I have so many pieces. It's about 41.1 pounds of fabric 😳. I want to dye it but Im nervous it will be splotchy. I also need to mention its been bleached before.
I'm looking to recycle some couch cushions for my outdoor furniture but they're bright yellow. I'm wanting to dye them Navy blue. Would this system work for my project?
Yes! I had a friend try it like that and it worked great for her! She actually took the piece outside and rinsed it off with a water hose but i bet the carpet cleaner just with water would work good. Just make sure to let the piece completely dry before rising it.
No definitely not weird at all lol I really wish I could have too! I tried for a couple of days but it was just not going to work with our white dogs fur!
Thanks so much! Unfortunately the dye can’t make things lighter. I have recently seen people painting upholstered furniture and getting a sofa texture so that might be an option!
Try to bleach your fabric first. I dyed my duvet cover from bright green to kind of deep washed purple colour. Bleach first, still greenish but lighter. Then I added deep brown Rit. Did not anticipate what colour the cover will become.Love the final result. Especially enjoying the unpredictable 😄
If your just drying the back you could take take it outside, fill up a spray bottle with the dye and spray on a generous amount and then let it sit for a couple hours or over night. You’ll need to rinse it off so there isn’t any color transfer so if you have a power washer you could use that to rinse it or honestly a water hose would probably work too and then just let it dry! That’s what I would do lol hope that’s helpful!
How much did you end up spending on all the dyes ? I can't help but wonder if it would be worth it or if it would cost just as much as buying a new slip cover from ikea or wherever 🤔
Beware! I just did this with a white sofa slipcover that I bought on FB Marketplace and the whole thing turned out blotchy when trying to dye it a dark blue. I agitated the entire 45 minutes each load I did. I'm thinking that the previous owner had bleached it some and the fabric was damaged and some spots didn't take the dye. I went back over it and sprayed, didn't work like it did for Noelle. I then re-dyed it in the washing machine and it also didn't work. Still splotchy - too bad because the color is beautiful.
Did you make sure to keep the fabric below water level when agitating? I actually used old towels and layered them over top of my fabric so the fabric would always stay submerged underneath of the towels. If any of the fabric is exposed to the air instead of being completely covered by the dye bath, that can make a difference in consistency. I didn't dye a slipcover, I was actually dying canvas drop cloths to use as inexpensive fabric to reupholster with, but they were every bit as big and heavy and doing this worked beautifully.
@@lblincoe2094 I didn't but was constantly agitating for the entire time. Some of the places where there were folds and piping didn't get much dye at all. I also think that the fabric could have been previously bleached so that may have kept it from accepting the dye. I think my Pottery Barn slipcover was also just too big and bulky.
It was still smart lining the tub though because the tub wasn’t exposed for a long period of time for the dye to leave a more permanent stain, great job

Finally someone doing black 🤗
SO SMART using the liner for your tub!
I bet it ensured she could remove the dye later. Smart!

Thanks for showing the process do thoroughly!
WOW!! It turned out amazing!! A lot of work, but so worth it. Nicely done!! 👏
Thanks so much! It really didn't take a lot of time, just used up my washer for a while lol

How did it turn Steph
Wow, I would never think to dye a couch! Seriously so cool.
Thank you! I just knew it had potential!
@@NoelleTateHome did u put more down in the cushions? They look fluffier now
just leave it soaking over night, with the desired color. it will end up looking richer
Beautiful 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Thanks for sharing 💗💗💗💗
Did it bleed or transfer at all afterwards? Like did you ever notice dye on your clothes after sitting on the sofa? Thanks!
I also dyed a vintage flokati wool rug that I got at the thrift store. It was ugly green brown , I dyed it black.I love dying it make big changes
Crazy the difference dye can make!
Wow that came out great!
Thanks so much! I love it!

The sofa is lovely!💕
Thank so much 😊
Liner use was good idea..also next time just poke a hole with scissors to liner on top of the drainer.😅
Awesome flip!!😻😻
Thank you!
So nice! Great job.......
I have two slipcovered chairs that I’m thinking about trying this on 🤗 I was planning on paying to have new slip covers so it can’t hurt to try!
Yes! Try this out on them for sure! Save yourself some money!
Love it 🥰I’m getting lots of ideas from your channel!

I want to dye a dark tan recliner dark brown, no slip cover. Do you think the spray bottle method and a carpet cleaner would work?

Great work! Thank You!
I was thinking while you were lining the tub like girl you gonna have to drain that lol. I will just buy a tote
Haha yes! I wish I had a big enough tote for it! It came out fine though with a little diluted bleach!
AMAZING!!! 😍
Thanks girl!
Turned out beautiful! Is it weird that I wish you could’ve kept it? Lol😅 Looked so good in your space😍👌🏼

You could have puncture hole in the drainage part of the plastic. It would hasve went straight down the drain
That’s a good idea although I wanted to be able to use the shower curtain again lol
How would i die the back of my sofa as i dont have removeable slip covers, what do you recommend ?

I think you can buy rit dye for 4 or 5 dollars at Walmart and she used 10 bottles for her sofa so around 50 dollars is what it was not bad

I am wondering the fabric is cotton or synthetic.
Baking soda helps with stains like that too
Loveee

Less bottles of black will achieve the same results.

Thank you! It was a cotton linen blend so I was able to use the regular rit dye but they make one for synthetic materials as well!
