LuLu, baby girl... these are the kind of songs that I grew up with, listening to on the radio!! Aaaawww, the memories!! ☺️😊
One of my favorite groups from my teen years ladies boys are back in town jailbreak whiskey in the jar loved a lot of their songs when I was growing up
Same here man!!! I have every one of their albums.
Phil Lamont, yeah. The cowboy song, another great song!
Thin Lizzy have SO MANY great songs, great Irish hard rock band from the 70's/early 80's! Jailbreak, Bad Reputation, Whiskey in a Jar, Renegade, Chinatown, Emerald etc etc. They are worth a deep dive ladies, Phil had such an amazing voice and his storytelling lyrics were great as well. Another good one!
Kathy's face when Phil sang "Get you knickers down!" 😂
It's not a cover. It's Thin Lizzy! Love the fact you're all digging it!!❤❤❤👍👍🤘🤘
Lynott was simply an incredible and interesting frontman. What a legacy he left behind.
the great gary moore was also a member of thin lizzy
Twice!
Lulu almost dancing out of her chair with the excitement of a song she seems to love!!
Loved Thin Lizzy. No frills band. Whiskey in a Jar. Jailbreak, Cowboy Song. All great.
Cowboy Song would be right up your street and a Lizzy great.
Emerald and Rosalie are great songs from Thin Lizzy.
Black Rose 👍
imagine the royalties they get, top irish rock band
Oh its Thin Lizzy all right. Vastly underrated band. I love this song. I played in a band that covered this song. I can still hear the call and response by me and the drummer on backing vocals. Fun tune to play. Man do I miss those days.
Original song . . Formed in Dublin Ireland .
Their first hit was . . "Whiskey in the Jar " .
This is the line up i saw . . .
Phill Lynott (Irish). Bass . Lead singer .
Brian Downey (Irish) . Drums
Scott Gorham (USA) . Lead guitar . (High kicker and hair .
Snowy White (English) . Lead guitar . (white jaket)
Unreal band🇮🇪
A Top Five Greatest Rock N Roll Of Song Of All Time !!! 😊
An Irish band, really knew how to drive it home, were very big in Australia.
Southbound and The Cowboy song were always two of my favourites live. Lizzy were a fantastic live band.
Thin Lizzy were a great band from Ireland.
Lead singer Phil Linnott wrote many great songs and had great stage presence. I think of their sound as being marked by the melodies and tones of their guitars. Easy to find great songs as mentioned in earlier comments below e.g. Emerald, Jailbreak, Rosalie etc.
I think my favourite song of theirs is "Running Back".
I saw them at Essex University in December 1975, when they were promoting "Jailbreak", which I consider their breakout album (no pun intended). Good rocking concert, the only thing was it was very loud, and I came out with ringing in my ears.
You chose a great one here. Love it. I also love their performance of "Bad Reputation". Watch out for some superb drumming by Brian Downey
Yezzz indeed!!! One of my favourite bands in my top five all time! They have way more songs that eclipse this jewel. So much more. Dig in ladies ❤❤❤. Great reaction!!!!! May I suggest from 1978s Live And Dangerous album. still In Love With You or Jailbreak. Keep going with these cats as they were fantastic!!!
Three big smiles there, ladies!
Phil lynott, one of the best black as well as Irish rock front men! He is right up there with jimi hendrix, Prince, lenny kravitz. And he is also a great bassist!
Keep on listening to ALL their music. So many great songs.
I haven't seen this version with Snowy White and Scott Gorham on guitars ..but I like it
Try ' Jaikbreak ' from Thin Lizzy
I also like Thin Lizzy's "Whiskey in the Jar"
Loved seeing you three get down to this song
Lynott was a football (soccer) fan. Manchester United apparently. Brilliant reception ladies.
This is a thin Lizzy song and are an awesome band
Thin Lizzy,my favorite band of all time
One of the best guitar riffs ever ,so memorable, great song from my schooldays.
The reason Lynott's guitar has a long neck is because it is a bass guitar.
Great song
Bonafide classic❤
I saw Thin Lizzy in '79 at the legendary Hammersmith Oden . .(now the Apollo) .
It was the Chinatown tour . . Awesome . .
There is so much more to Thin Lizzy . . Now theres a rabbit hole to dive into . . .
Songs like . . . Emerald . . Black Rose . . Me and the Boys . . . Many more . .
"Rosalie" is a fav . Originaly done by Bob Segar . . Its about Rosalie Trombly(rip) who was an influetial music director responcible for starting many carreers . .
A reaction between Segars and Lizzys versions would be cool . .
Till next time take care ladys .
Bye from NZ👋🇳🇿🍻twa
In 1978, Thin Lizzy played outside the Sydney Opera House to a crowd of 100,000. There are some clips of it on You Tube.
I see you viewed my profile Kathy we are doing much better after the hurricane and damage that we had in Huntsville just wanting to give you a up date since you were concerned last about me and my mother Cathy and everyone here Huntsville Texas. All of the volunteers of the hurricane relief group love you Kathy Donna and lulu. Wintersun Alex in Texas ❄️❤️
I'm so glad you are doing better down there.
Many theories about this song - most popular is that it is about a group of Gangsters from Manchester (UK) called "The quality street Gang". the lead singers (Phil Lynott) mam, ran a pub in Manchester frequented by the QSG and this song originated after they had been released from a stretch inside prison.
Nice back story. Thanks.
Quality Street Gang? Manx humour is like no other.
Yes, lead singer Phil Lynott's (pronounced lie-not) "guitar" indeed has a longer neck - because it is in fact a bass 🙂 Phil was, for the longest time, literally the only black person in the whole of his, and Thin Lizzy's, native Ireland. the result of his unwed mother's casual fling with a sailor on shore leave. Phil grew up to become extremely popular with the girls, with his exotic looks, and it was for this reason he was hired a a singer at a very young age for Ireland's arguably first major hard rock band, Skid Row (no, not THEM!). But, when Phil's voice broke in puberty, he was fired - but Skid Row's bassist Brush Shiels, as a parting gift, taught him to play bass so that he would have it easier to find another band. Phil took to the bass immediately, and when he co-founded Thin Lizzy in 1969, his demand for joining was that he would also be the bass player, not "just" the singer. Sadly, in his own mind, he was a mediocre bassist at best - but according to the people who got to play with him, he was one of the most solid and groove-producing bass players EVER.
Thin Lizzy was to become, to European and Australian crowds, one of THE quintessential hard rock bands of the 70s - right up there with the likes of Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple. And Phil was the definitive rock star: tall, charismatic, extremely successful with the ladies (gossip has it that he is one of the, erm, most competent lovemakers in rock history) - but first and foremost, one of the finest songwriters and rock poets of all time.
In the US, however, Thin Lizzy have mostly been regarded as a one-hit wonder. This song is that hit. There are two quintessential versions of it: the original studio version from 1976, and the 1978 live version from one of the most legendary live albums ever, "Live and dangerous". This version here - not so much (I'll get to that). The reason Thin Lizzy never became a household name in the US, was probably because two major tours crashed and burned prematurely, killing their momentum. One in 1976, right on the heels of "The boys are back in town" becoming a hit - when Phil got sick in hepatitits. And one in 1979, when their then guitarist, the late great Gary Moore, abruptly left mid-tour, furious with Phil's and second guitarist Scott Gorham performing so poorly because of heroin abuse.
Which brings us back to this version of "TBABIT". The two classic versions are performed by the classic Thin Lizzy lineup: Phil Lynott, drummer Brian Downey (the band's only other constant from the start until the band splitting up in 1983), American guitarist Scott Gorham and Scottish guitarist Brian Robertson. This version here, is performed by the least popular Thin Lizzy lineup ever, active 1980-81. Here, Robertson - and more recently Moore - had been replaced by Snowy White (the blonde guyy) a more blues-influenced guitarist who never got any love from the fans. And also, once you notice you can't unsee it: the aforementioned heroin addiction has clearly taken its toll on Scott and Phil (the two making the fatal mistake of trying out the drug during an album recording in Paris in 1979). Scott would, thankfully, shake his addiction. Phil, sadly, succumbed to it on January 4th, 1986. He was only 35.
Phil's legacy, however, lives on forever. Not least here in Sweden, where Thin Lizzy are as cherished as Van Halen are in the US, and where every January 4th sees a tribute concert in Phil's honor take place in Stockholm where the country's finest hard rock musicians salute him by performing his songs. Of which there are innumerable mega classics, who you'd not be sorry for trying out. "Jailbreak", "Cowboy song", "Emerald", "Dancing in the moonlight", "Rosalie", "Whisky in the jar" (an Irish folk tune, in a very special version, later re-covered by Metallica), "Bad reputation", "Cold sweat", "Waiting for an alibi", "Killer on the loose", "Still in love with you" ... and no, I'm not exaggerating: all these ARE in fact just the tip of a gargantuan classics iceberg.
Oh yeah - do you know how Phil answered the question how it felt to be black and Irish?
"Like a pint of Guinness" 😁
thanks, i did not know this.
I saw them many times from 1976 to 1983 the last show in Reading U.K.
and I was Really Out There 🤜🏼🤛🏽
Well ladies another hair band from the 70s It brings me joy to watch Donna reliving her youth from that era I think she's a little older than me I'm 53 Donna. And were still recovering from the hurricane here in Huntsville Texas. Wintersun Alex ❄️❤️
My Favourite Band Thin Lizzy From My Country 🇮🇪 Ireland 👍 Thin Lizzy Have So Many Great Songs 👏🥰. You Need To React To Still In Love With You (Live) From The Classic Live and Dangerous Album.
thank you ladies! Thinn Lizzy ruled!!! Phil Lynot was my guy!!! R.I.P. great one! and Gary Moore was amazing! Phil has a Statue in Ireland that testifies to his greatness! Jailbreak! any song by them rocks!
I would love to see what you make of Motorhead live. Anything from the Stage Fright DVD but preferably Overkill or Stay Clean. All of that is on TH-cam. Also there's a band called Big Country who were superb live and I think you'd enjoy them. Something like Wonderland or Where the Rose is Sown played live with the original lineup (before front man Stuart died in 2001) would be lovely to see
Great choice, great Song. Thin Lizzy was under appreciated in the 70's. it's so good that it is changing with more people discovering them now. Gary Moore was in Thin Lizzy Back in the 70's before he turned to the blues!
Greatest band to ever come out of Ireland ... well, maybe along with U2
Plus one American!
@@MikePhillips-pl6ov The American came way later. The band came out of Ireland (with their 1st 2 guitarists). 3rd & 4th guitarists were English & German. Then came guitarists 5 & 6 (Scottish & American).
U2 don't even come close to Thin Lizzy, but that's just my opinion I guess.
Fantastic band. Love
Phil Lynott. Irish legend .
I love the song “Emerald”, and “Cowboy Song”.
Hi ladies!!!!
Hello
I thought that was Snowy White on guitar and I believe that's Gary Moore also. Wow Gary died 13 years ago, memories. You girls deserve many more views then you get. It is interesting to see 3 generation react to songs.
Snowy White and Scott Gorham playing here
Amazing legendary band, well worth a deep dive 🤘
This song is by far Thin Lizzies best song by far.
But for some reason every time I hear it l think of the movie " 48 Hours " with Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte.
That was a different song, but it had the same title! I can picture Eddie donning a cowboy hat as the "new sheriff in town..."
Two Irishmen, a Scotsman and an American. It worked.
@@TheWorldofGood79 Yes, I know.
This lineup has Snowy White (English).
@@charliegeorge9393 Yes I know it does. It also has Darren Wharton.
Buy the « Alive and dangerous »Album released in 78. Good introduction to Lizzy
Check out the studio versions of "The Cowboy Song" and "Whiskey in the Jar".👍
Hey there you 3 are a breath of fresh air thanks for reacting to thin lizzy excellent from Ireland ❤❤❤❤love it
😊 thank you
Funny thing, me and my best friend, recorded this on Reel to Reel back in the day, it was a newly released song, we were about to enter boot camp together in the 70's we did not hear the song again till we were both home from the service and we played this song in a band! #kathyluluandDonna and yes bald man back to watch your reactions!
Lol
Lots of classic Thin Lizzy tunes to check out ladies. Whiskey in the Jar, Rosalie, Cold Sweat to name a few
And I have to let you know that each time I find myself thinking I like something, I am compelled to say "I LIKE IT" in the same tone as Donna which makes me smile. So, cheers for that lol
THeir Jailbreak album (this one) is chock full of bangers! Johnny The Fox and Fighting are great albums, too. My fav song by them is 'Wild One'. Also check out 'Dancing In The Moonlight'. T
Thin Lizzy I think was a reference to the old Ford car, nick named the Tin Lizzy. Great Riff 'though. Singer was Phil Lynott and that guitar? ..was a Bass guitar.
No, it was a reference to a comic book character, a female robot, called Tin Lizzie (note the spelling).
@@erikthompson619 Yep and the Irish pronunciation for thin being tin
@@erikthompson619 I take your interpretation. I had heard one explanation.
GREAT SONG, I see 3 generations exited at least.
Fantastic band, great song. Only one of many great songs from Thin Lizzy though. From "Whiskey in the Jar" to "Thunder and Lightning", their back catalog is well worth checking out. Probably one of their "best of" compilations is a good place to start. My personal favourite of their songs is "Don't believe a word".
Gary Moore that you loved in earlier videos was the guitarist in Thin Lizzy.
On one album only, though.
Thin Lizzy peaked in N. America w/ the album 'Jailbreak' in 1976... The song 'Jailbreak' was a huge radio hit w/ 'The boys are back in town'... from that record... it sold gold in the US (half million copies)
Unfortunately, Thin Lizzy were not able to replicate that success in America after 'Jailbreak'... but stayed very popular in Europe w/ subsequent albums like 'Johnny the Fox'... 'Bad reputation' ...
Problems within Thin Lizzy resulted in Brian Robertson (guitar) being fired by the late 70's... Both Phil Lynott (vocals & bass) and Scott Gorham (guitar) were abusing drugs and insiders said that it was ruining the band creatively.
In 1983, Thin Lizzy released their final studio album 'Thunder and lightning'... and it was their best record in years w/ John Sykes (guitar) in the band. They played their 'farewell' shows on that tour and disbanded by 1984.
Members of Thin Lizzy were considering coming back for another album & tour... But it wasn't to be... Phil Lynott (the band's main songwriter, singer & frontman) was hospitalized and dying from organ failure after years of drug abuse... He passed away in early 1986.
Thin Lizzy's dual guitar sound was a huge influence on later bands like Iron Maiden... Megadeth ... Metallica ... etc. Phil Lynott is a legend in Ireland where he grew up and established Thin Lizzy in the late 60's/ early 70's w/ another Irish guitar legend Gary Moore.
The Cowboy Song, The Cowboy Song, The Cowboy Song is their Bohemian Rhapsody and Stairway To Heaven. It's an epic song.
Dangit I miss the 70s! Best time to see concerts. Loved these dudes back then.
Thanks
Thank you so much
The lead sibgers name was phil lynott.
Summer of '76, a few weeks after high school graduation, a friend and I hitchhiked from Breckenridge, MN to Colorado Springs. We spent a week there, partying with some older friends that had moved there, then hitchhiked back to Breckenridge. Total trip took about 3 weeks, and on the last day we got to within about 10 miles from home and called some friends to come pick us up. As we entered the edge of town after our 3 weeks away, this song came on the radio. We turned and grinned and high-fived each other. "Yeah! We're back in town and it's Wednesday, barn dance night!"
Great memory, pops up every time I listen to this song.
They play this at a lot of NASCAR races.
Thin Lizzy is an Irish band. The lead singer bass players name is Phil Lynott. They have done so many great songs besides their cover of Whisky in a jar (an traditional irish folk song) Like China town, Fools gold or Black rose
This was the song & music of my Junior year of high school…… & I like to think it wasn’t that long ago but it was.
I still have the record I purchased - but i wore out this 8 track in my very very used hand me down 65 Oldsmobile my father made me drive. Today that car would be a classic but in the 70’s it was an embarrassing eyesore to a 16-year-old. 😂
Phil Lynotf known as the ‘Black Irishman, they are an Irish Band. The great Guitarist Garry Moore was once a band member. RIP Gary and Phil 💖😢
Yesssssss. Ty lasses! Slainte ☘️🇺🇲
"Never heard of Thin Lizzy"! Thats like saying ive never heard of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Saw this lineup live in late 1980, amazing nite.
The town the boys were back in was Dublin, Republic of Ireland. RIP Phil Lynott, the front-man. Gone way too soon.
I was in a Thin Lizzy tribute band for about 5 years. Really really great stuff. If you want a great place to start is with the Jailbreak album.
Awesome
Wish you Ladies would do some Golden Earring ! Songs like : Clear Night , Moonlight , When The Lady Smiles , Lost And Found , Moontan , Long Blonde Animal , just to name a few.
Love them myself.
I actually visited Phil's statue on Harry Street in Dublin about 6 weeks ago
You have to do Jailbreak. That is one Rockin song. Do the live version. Thin Lizzy was a rockin band
Saw them in 1975 and 1978 amazing live
Now we need to see Kathy’s high kicks!
Lol
The Best of Irish Rock!!!
If your looking for a show to follow . . Look for the
Thin Lizzy . . Live and Dangerous video . .
Great on stage rock n roll . .
This was my band before The Warning . . 💐💐💐
One of the guitarists IS the great Gary Moore!!!!
Phil Lynott was a brilliant singer bassplayer songwriter you ladies also try Motorhead Lemmy Kilmister
I wanna come and hang out with Mom. Rock on.
Rest in peace Philip Lynote
Wonder if that dual lead harmony was inspired by Duane and Dickey? Or Paul and George (And Your Bird Can Sing)?
Great reaction try Gary Moore ( ex Thin Lizzy Guitarist ) Don't believe a word live he mixes the slow and the fast version
LULU!!!
Thin Lizzy | The Boys Are Back In Town! You bet I got that one. Kicks ,.. Have you seen the Van Halen "Jump" Video? The lead singer is into the martial arts and he can kick his own hat off. Way back in the 60's 70's my grandfather was a Dodger fan and just for fun My dad was an Angel fan. So I followed them for many years but I stopped long ago . The only thing I am into these days is is Football and the Rams were In Los Angeles when I was growing up. And BTW you have heard the Rams theme song circa 2001 when they were called "The Greatest show on Turf". .. Emerson Lake and Palmer Karn Evil 9 opening lyric to Part 2... "Welcome Back My Friends To the Show that Never Ends". This year the Rams have shored up their offense and look to be that again. Passing in the top five. Running in the top 5. I think they have compensated for the loss of Aaron Donald on Defense and will be in the Superbowl.
THIN LIZZY
Line-up 1976
Phil Lynott: Bass, Vocals
Scott Gorham: Lead Guitar, Guitars, Backing Vocals
Brian Robertson: Lead Guitar, Guitars, Backing Vocals
Brian Downey: Drums
Cheers from CHILE!!!!
this is Snowy White, not Brian Robertson!
@2011rumpelralf The line-up above is the one that originally recorded the album "Jailbreak" (1976) where the track "The boys are back in town" was included. Cheers!!!
@@PureMetalHolocaust No, he's right it's Snowy White. This is not Robo.
@markwilliams6394 As I said before, the line-up above is the one that originally recorded the album "Jailbreak" (1976) where the track "The boys are back in town" was included. I'm not talking about the members appearing on the video.
Quote:
"It was given 499th position among the 2004 Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, though was not included in the 2010 update. However, it re-entered the list in the 2021 update at an even higher position than before at number 272. Rolling Stone praised lead singer and bassist Phil Lynott's "Gaelic soul" and said the "twin-guitar lead by Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson" was "crucial to the song's success". In March 2005, Q magazine placed "The Boys Are Back in Town" at No. 38 in its list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Tracks. The song won a 1976 NME Award for Best Single". Cheers!!!

And please check also Emma Kok "Dancing on the stars" 🙂
They were from Ireland
I think gramma knows this tune.
Get it right ladies! The name of the band is ‘TIN’ lizzy! The H is silent. But that being said, I ❤❤ your reaction!
no its not , you're talking about Dublin accent
A lot of people reckoned that phil never wrote a song unless it had meaning and they feel that this song was written during the era in Ireland when a lot of young Irish men went to work in England because of the recession in ireland during the 50's and 60's. Phil, because of his mixed race and nationality would, at the time, have had found it difficult to survive in England so he stayed at home. So, like the young women he too had to wait and hang out with the old men until summertime for the when the 'boys are back in town'. His poetic and musical genius disguised his despair behind an upbeat backing music.
