  • Terry Jones sits down for a chat with Terry Wogan, where they discuss the future of Monty Python, getting mugged by a horse, whether Monty Python and the Holy Grail was an accurate depiction of medieval life, being an "armchair anarchist", home-brewing real ale, medieval dentistry, the nature of progress, and the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow.

    So lovely to hear Terry Jones in full flow, especially when you think of his last few years. He was so passionate about things. It's just as well we don't know what the future holds for us.

      Yes the late great Terry Jones, such a real shame how his brain went in the end.

      At least he had a good 70 years where he was cognitively engaged before things started to deteriorate.

    Not only was Terry Jones hilariously funny and wonderfully talented, he was also of course supremely intelligent.

      I think as a rounded person he's my favourite. Love his outlook, politics and his his non-python work. Obviously Palin became a semi national treasure with his travelogues and Gilliam directed some lovely films but Jones's historical work, children's stories and articles are full of intelligence, wit and warmth. Seems to have been a general force for good.

      Usually I say Eric Idle, just because he happened to write and/or appear in more of my favourite sketches, but I am such a Python obsessive and I have such a love for all 6 of them, it's very hard to pick just one of them.
      Without any of the 6 it just wouldn't have been as magical.
      Kind of similar to when trying to pick a favourite Beatle...

    An unusually respectful interview from Wogan. Later on he descended into asking stupid questions and making fools of his subjects. This is a great interview. Terry of course was a fascinating and intelligent individual. A very unhysterical audience too! No whooping or howling.

    • @Jesse__H
      @Jesse__H ปีที่แล้ว +11

      There's a touch of Wogan's antagonism here too I feel. It's just that Terry does such a good English job of smoothing over the edges of the more thoughtless questions with his humor and humility.
      He's so clever and learned he makes a good interview even out of bad questions 😊

    • @VidHardt
      @VidHardt 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Respectful in the sense his final shot at Terry Jones was to liken him to Hitler? Yes, it was a friendly interview in tone, but Wogan was consistently disrespectful and confrontational over most everything, justified by claiming that having views contrary to Wogan's own 'will put people off'! Which is another way of saying, 'You, Terry Jones, put me off with all your opinions that aren't mine!'

    One of the great things about interviewing a Python is that the man in the street tends to learn something new. But you can also why Terry was sort of the passionate heart of that team - much to Cleese's annoyance - and probably in everything else he did.

    1984: 'We are all still alive'.
    1989: Chapman proceeds to dying of cancer.
    To be honest, Cleese gave possibly the best eulogy of all time.
