    I love my R4s on my Kubota

    • @CaptainKleeman
      @CaptainKleeman  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      R4s were a marketing scam by manufacturers trying to make newer, underbuilt tractors, look tougher than what they actually are. If you ever get the chance, and run in grass dirt or mud, try a set of R14s.

      Another vote here for R4s. I run amongst mesquite and honey locust thorns and R1s wouldn't last. I agree they (R4s) are terrible in mud but in my case are necessary.

      I have R4s also. They do ok, but they pack up quick. I run in mostly red clay and river mud. The R14s look like the tread pattern on my UTV. My UTV does not do too good in the mud, but man it will climb rocks!

    • @MatthewJRedmond
      @MatthewJRedmond ปีที่แล้ว

      My 2038R came with R4's, only thing I've seen them to be good at is lasting longer than many other tread styles. My Ol' Man has always ran R1's on his 1070 and there's no doubt they're better in the mud but definitely ride rougher and are harder on the lawn. Will be looking to upgrade to R14's whenever my tires wear out especially since they're about worthless in the winter. And yes the rears are filled and I run with the loader and backhoe on 95% of the time.

    To permanently fix the fitting on the fuel filter housing, fitting I suggest using Red thread locker and slid it together, then put a little at the end of the joint and allow to dry. It will seal ir together quite well as I did the same on my 22 hp Yannar in my JD lawn tractor. Good luck, fun video and thanks 👍.

    Years ago the first time we went to the sand dunes at silver lake state park my brother was not happy with his stock rear tires on his quad. Another buddy pulled out some end nippers and said let's make some hillbilly paddle tires! The three of us took turns cutting out every other row (we all had sore hands by the end). Took it back out in the sand. It was better but my brother wanted to take every other one out again? So we did it taking turns again (only half as many rows this time! ) . That made a huge difference! Don't be afraid to try things like this! Keep up the great work 👍

    TUBES: #1, always fill the tube PRIOR to install to see where the valve is oriented & then deflate it. #2, Use baby powder on the tube and in the tire to allow for slipping when installing. #3, Pull the outside of the tire off the rim to make it easier to get the tube inside. #4, Fill the tube and then let the air out, bounce the tire a few times and then re-fill it. This allows the tube to form properly inside the tire. I've done a few.

      Also those lines on the tube are just from the manufacture process. Lay the tube out and the valve will naturally show you which side it’s on. Also much easier if you take the tire half way off. Also need to get all the dirt out or you will have holes later

You don’t get upset just think and talk through it and work it out. Life is like that things may not go right but you learn by your inexperience. I can’t wait to see your “mud” tractor in action.

    Doing tubes can be so easy. It's best to break the bead on both sides of the tire, then pull one side off the rim (just as you did @ 11:30). Now the tire can be moved up and down freely, and you have a large space to put the tube in. A top tip is to put a little bit of air in the tube before fitting it, just enough to hold it up and still be able to squash it and fold it a bit. Now the valve stem is even pointing in the right direction for easy fitting. Tuck the tube into the tire, poke the valve stem through it's hole, and run the tire back onto the rim. Advantage number 2 of having that little bit of air in the tube: the tube is inside the tire and not getting pinched in the bead, (or by a tire iron if you had to use one). Air up the tire and Robert's your mothers brother. (I always check inside the tire for anything that could puncture the tube before I put the tube in).
    I hope this can help someone, and make life just a little bit easier.

    • @DB-jc7ny
      @DB-jc7ny ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Good ideas. I, after getting the tube inside, air it up a bit, and then release all of the air. It helps the tube settle into place and get any kinks out of the tube before the final air-up.

    When doing tubes, we always dismount the first bead, use a tube chain on the stem, blue line always face away from you, use a pair of vice grips to hold the stem while inflating. Once I flated, deflate the tube to smooth out the creases in the tube, reinflate to pressure.

    Brings back memories. Always air up the tube first - you can see the orientation of the valve stem and it removes the folds in the tube caused from packaging. .

      Memories for me as well. I was born in the late 50's long before tubeless tires and certainly before their widespread use. I got pretty good at patching tubes. We used to go to the gas station when we were youngsters and get patched several times truck tubes from them for free and float down the creeks on them. Ah the good old days... In my latter years it seems all I patched were bicycle tubes for my kids and now look forward to teaching my grandkids how to do it. Thanks for jogging my old memories... Joe

    John Deere actually uses those fuel filter housings on a wide variety of machines, my dads 1070 has an identical one and so did the engine in my old bosses SK45 Mini-excavator. (Boss swapped original engine for one off a John Deere commercial mower.) Had similar problem after fuel lines clogged, wound up putting an O-ring in it and it worked fine for years after without a problem, though I used some tie wire around the line and the housing to make sure it didn't come back out for my own piece of mind. May help buy you some time if nothing else until you get a new one or find the official fix. Hope this helps Capt. As always thanks for bringing us along and keep up the great work my man 😁 👍

    Hey Captain, I think your tire cutting tool would work better if you used a much shorter extension cord. You are losing power to the tool due to the high resistance of the extension cord. A larger gauge cord would help but those are expensive. Yet another excellent video. Thanks!

      No it wouldn't, i have one and i didn't use an extension cord at all... halfway thru the first tire i switched to the vibrator because it just works better... i have used the kind that have the looped razor blades and they are slick but that cheap solder iron with a blade is just that...

    Just a thought, but, baby powder. A friend of mine uses baby powder on motorcycle tires that require a tube. It's dry, and the tube might be less likely to double over and crease? Air it up completely, then drain it and air it up again. You always seem to be having a good time. And always entertain us.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

    Well, I'm glad I started early, so I miss reading most of the folks giving you advice on stuff you've already done. Just so you know you aren't alone, the whole thing of "just getting through this one and then I'll fix it" is pretty much my solution also, so I have to force myself to take an equipment/tool maintenance day, at least once every ten or fifteen years, or when a wheel falls off. (But, if it's a front wheel, maybe I could just put some more weight on the back and finish out the day.)😁

    • @CaptainKleeman

    One of the best tools I have for tires, is a long rod valve stem tool- twist on to the valve stem of a tube, and apply a little leverage to keep it straight and aligned while pushing in a tube, as well, use it for seating a new valve in a tubeless, or yanking a stem out without debeading the tire. Worth the $8. 🤓

    "They're suprisingly expensive" is a phrase I say every time I need anything for a tractor, and with John Deere branded parts, double it.
    Missing an o-ring is also somewhat familiar, but you can get a variety kit of 1400 o-rings on Amazon for $22.

    The heated cutter would work very well if it had enough wattage to get it up to temp. I have watched guys cut large lugs in equipment tires with ease. But nice to know that the oscillating cutter can also work. Thanks for sharing Mike.

    slick trick with the jack... ive used a C clamp and impact drill before... not the safest, but the dang tire was NOT gonna best be on that day!

    Appreciate you having us along for another great Video, I would had thought it would take longer and possibly slightly more difficult to replace the Glow Plugs in the 755. That didn’t seem terribly difficult, you certainly made short Work of it. tires looks great try it you may want to go 1 row more from each side.great tip how to transfer a nut in a tight spot.the jack was slick.i watched a video this week of a farmer changing a truck tire ,he saves his old diesel fuel from filter changes and uses that as tire lub when changing a tire, and it looked very slick better then soapy water

      @CaptainKleeman  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's interesting, I prefer not to have my hands covered in diesel if I can avoid it though. But I bet it works well!

    I have a 755. Same issue with the fuel elbow. Get it lined up and give it a decent whack, just not hard enough to break the housing. Should be fine after that. No o-ring on mine. I also converted my bucket to quick attach, but I went with the John Deere hook and bar type.

    Thanks for tips on tire upgrades. I always get frustrated when trying to get a new tube in. I've had more than one instance where I drove 12 miles to get a 'professional' to do it only to find the tire flat by the time I get back to the property. Once, I thought the valve stem was torn, but it turned out that they ripped the new tube, and the air was just coming out the valve stem hole.

    A tip for those small nuts that i use all the time for everything from glow plugs to spark plugs is use some hose that grips it snugly to get it started

    If you weld a old radiator cap to the bottom a old brownie pan. Put the cap on the rad you than have safe place to put tools and parts. Without them falling under or in the engine !
