  • The Wheel Loader had no traction. But I can't Stud the tires or use chains on the parking lot. So it was New Tires or trying something different. A tire Grooving machine.

    My guess on how the tire groover works is that the blade is also a filament that heats up. When you pull the trigger, the electric current runs thru the blade allowing it to instantly heat up. I'm sure that it took a sec or two to completely cool off after letting go of the trigger, but you get the point.. Brilliant idea..

    I did this to the R4 tires on my tractor and it works great. Works even better if you don't run the tires at max pressure when you're not really loading them much beyond raising the blade. Get just a little flex in the side of the tire so it's not so hard and they'll grip like glue! (Same for the tires on your trucks...)
    BTW, my $100 grooving iron works almost as well as your $500 tool, so I feel pretty good about that... :)

      Something to keep in mind, is that as you reduce the amount of rubber in contact with the ground, you also increase the amount of wear on the rubber that is left. Hence why dirt/construction tires have such blocky designs, they are designed for longevity in rough conditions. But since you are using it primarily for snowplowing, where traction is more important than thread wear, it is a good trade-off, since more traction means faster work, and faster work means more money in the long run. 😁

    So I want to say thank you for being so informative in all your videos. I am at a point in my backyard transformation that I need to bring in someone to complete the work I can’t do myself which consists of bringing in loads of soli, regrading and installing a 50-60’ retaining wall at 3’ tall. So far the 3 contractors I’ve spoken with, I’ve only found one MAYBE capable of doing it correctly. It’s scary when I ask for pictures of work they’ve done and have yet to receive any. That doesn’t make me feel warm and fuzzy inside at all. I understand not everyone is going to fully document their work like you do but seriously how does a contractor not have a single picture of what they’ve done. I wish you were here in NJ bc I would hire you in a second.

    i have been looking at getting one of those tire groovers. i siped the front tires of my kubota with a box cutter, took me 45 min a tire (DM for pics). sipes really helped the traction. the tractor came with R1s and they totally suck in the snow. i can't use chains either, i spend a lot of time backing up steep driveways throwing snow, so the fronts were my priority (plus much cheaper to replace if it was a total fail). just the sipes made a noticeable improvement. will be grooving the rears before next season.

    very cool.. if you sipe also it would significantly improve the traction in winter. some tools you can flip the cutter over, the u shaped head and have 2 straight cuts per pass. or they probably sell a siper head. snow sticks to snow. the best winter tires have tons of sipes, along with softer compound. but ya the price for having 2 sets of tires for summer and winter. maybe lower air pressure too a bit.. a grinder also to freshen up before sipping. it gets the glaze off. sipping is faster then grooving also. you can also do to skid steers. love the channel thanks for the good content.. big fan. God Bless you too..

      Siping, grooving or both. It will work for the tracks also. Don't be afraid to sipe both ways. Across the tires (forward traction) and around (side to side bite).

    Truck tires have entirely different siping requirements. I would have done that in stages, first simply put the single parallel zig-zag groove pattern across each stock lug. That would have cut the time down. A lot of the benefit comes from the fresh sharp edges. Your investment will allow you to freshen that up when needed.

  • @sleddingfarmer8692
    @sleddingfarmer8692 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Siping tires helps a ton too. On my tool I just put the cutting tool in the gun in the opposite direction so it cuts two sipes instead of a groove. I would dare say siping helps just as much or more than the grooves... Definitely helps more on glare ice. I sipe my pickup tires and the difference is remarkable.
