When I was 14, I told my master mechanic Dad, that I hated riding the smelly school bus. So, he bought a 1959 Studebaker station wagon. He cut off the top of the back and made it a bench up front with a rumble seat in back, which sat out in the open. He ramped it up to make it have some 300 HP with a 289 engine block. Before paved roads to the beach they were mostly sand and dirt. So, I'd take all of my friends to the beach sliding all over the place as we hit the curves at high speed. It was great. Dad painted it silver and installed mag wheels. Back in the 60's, it was a big hit. It was a small town and the police were afraid of my Dad because of his massive build so they never said a word seeing me at age 14, drive 20 miles to school. 9:25 - nice to see the Bugatti Royale here; back in about 1984, when the one that soon after sold for for $9.7 million was residing at the Briggs Cunningham auto museum in Orange County CA, I was hired to repair and recolor its leather interior. From that point on, rather than have to compile a list of all my customers for my resumé - all the various high-end auto aficionados, body shops and upholstery shops, etc., that I did this kind of work for - all I had to say was "I restored the interior of the $9,700,000 Bugatti Royale," and that said more about my mastery of my trade than all the rest...
