"No! NO MORE CRISES! No readers' attention spans aren't less than a decade long! Stop with the reboots and the Crises!" *What DC hears:* "Yes, daddy. More."
Crisis aren't reboots. DC has only ever had true full line reboots in 1985 with crisis on infinite earths and 2011 with flashpoint and the new 52. Hell, everything they've done since 2015 has been with the express intent of undoing the effects of reboots. Multiversity, convergence, rebirth, doomsday clock, metal and death metal all exist to acknowledge elements that had been erased in the 2011 reboot and to bring them back into continuity.
I dig the idea. Usually hearing comic ideas can be like hearing someone talk about their dream, but I really dig the ideas you guys were spitballing here.
This was such a great episode! The ultimate DC pitch felt like elseworlds exchange, the valiant nft thing felt life comics experiment, so it was the perfect Benny/Sal combo
This was an amazing episode! I love how it just organically transitioned into a pitch segment and y’all just went with the flow also it was great seeing Sal so passionate about the subject he really impacts the convo
I like the idea of "ultimate" superman inspiring there's another way to Batman and Wonder woman and have a solo wonder woman book introducing gods, monsters and magic is real in that universe. Then maybe turn the worlds finest book to trinity or keep it worlds finest. I would've have Batman with that universe have a internal debate with himself whether to kill or not and maybe do the I won't kill you but don't have to save you or push a criminal off a roof or something like that but then afterwards have him conflicted if it was right or not then have Superman tell him there's another way.
I love the DC pitch. However I worry DC doesn't have enough writers right now that would care enough to use creativity that gives a good new take on the origins of the DC Universe while also still having reverence for where these characters come from and not letting them stray from their core traits
My main issue for the ultimate dc concept is that it would take a very long time for me to see some of my favorites like the teen titans and if a character is done dirty then that is the version that sticks
Damn…that ultimate DC pitch is really fucking cool, to the point where I’m bummed that (unless Jim Lee is secretly a huge Absolute Comics fan) we’ll never see it
I had an idea for how they could make Earth 3 different to what it usually is depicted and more in-line with how the 'ultimate' DC universe is. Instead of having everyone's morality flipped, have it be that it originally started out exactly the same as Earth - 1, but before Superman showed Batman/everyone else a different way, he died (maybe in his first adventure?) He was unable inspire anyone... Except for one person. LEX LUTHOR. Lex decides that the best thing for the world is for him to become a Hero because of it. So he becomes Earth - 3's Superman, and instead of showing the other heroes there's another way, he pushes them to become more brutal, more dark, more willing to kill.
Also I find it so odd that the mutants have as many books as Batman once more and everyone from Sal , Jole and ect kept saying nah it could never happened again. I said oh it can just give to Hickman and watch all the other books happened. Not only has not only has the Krokoa lasted past that 2-3 year limit they might even last a decade.
In terms of Miles' new suit, they should have just took notes from the Crimson Cowl suit from the game but just adjusted it and made it less red and more black.
You can collect the cracks in the multiverse. Finally DC/Warner bros. have found a use for Calvin Q. Calculus' portable holes they've been warehousing since 1955.
Please and I mean please write these ultimate stories and get fan writers to jump on. This would be a great project for the team to jump into even if it’s simply for the fan no paid type of stuff.
If you do Sal's idea of making closing of the DC universe and leaving an Ultimate universe, Why not just make it Milestone. That's what it originally was anyway. Just have them on to different sides of the universe via a source wall that separates them like a pool line in the universe. The only one's being aware of this being cosmic beings like the Spectre and Dharma.
I like the idea that alien weapons tie Batman, Superman, Green Lantern and Flash together. Both Batman and Flash discover these through their detective work and Green Lantern is already on the case. Superman is a target of these weapons.
I was just having the conversation with my LCS about how I'm not hyped about anything, especially DC. Of course they couldn't agree; it's their business to sell comics. But even my main salesperson that mainly reads DC rolled their eyes when I mentioned all the Batman and Bat Fam events coming this year.

Honestly I picked up Savage Spider-Man, now I never read non stopped so I was completely lost, then I went this is why I read X-men even they aren't this complicated.
I think more than the continuity being complicated, it's just poorly stewarded. Everything I saw about Non-Stop basically made it sound like it jus abruptly ended, and then when I saw solicitations for Savage, I just assumed it was something else as well. They did nothing to make it very apparent that this was going to be a continuation, and why the hell did they rebrand after like 5 issues? It's just a dumb move -- Spider-Man is my favorite character and as much as the needless rebrand from Nonstop to Savage would have annoyed me, I probably would have gone back and read nonstop, but now I'm just annoyed lol.

such a super exciting podcast. Your ideas of the hard reboot sounds amazing. But DC and Marvel's biggest fear is a hard reboot.
