This is really interesting! I'd love to look into this kind of lining for Honda S2000s! F20/22c engines came from the factory with FRM lining and it'd be really interesting to see how it would hold up versus a factory lining for a high RPM high compression engine that's known for its reliability

As I know they coat molybdenum. It gives good harndness against wear and gives porosity to keep the oil. Additionally molybdenum has great self lubricating property. Even if there is no oil, it works for a while. I coated a lot of sewing machine needle shuttle by atmospheric plasma spray.

Molybdenum sprayed coatings do have porosity for oil retention, but it is actually softer than other coatings. As such, Molybdenum coated ring’s don’t last as long as PVD coated rings.

I'm very interested to know if a SUMEbore is better than a plateau honed iron-based block/liner with the appropriate rk.

That’s a great question. Only long term testing will show if one has better durability than the other.

It is really cool stuff, and we've learned a ton about SUMEbore since we did this video.

Where can I get this done in Ontario/ Canada for my 997.1 c4s?

Contact Oerlikon Metco. They invented the technology.

Can you run the gapless rings in a nikasil coated cyl?

The test is still on going. The engine has over 10,000 miles on it now.
