I came across this film when researching Yorkshire towns - I have watched quite a few 'Walks in' and have never been so entertained as I was in Dr Kellett's loyal, proud and detailed story of Knaresborough. I felt an underlying layer of satirical amusement beneath the presentation and I was smiling throughout. I notice that this was filmed six years ago and I hope Dr Kellett is in good health and still telling his stories of this beautiful town. I have never visited this place but it is the top of my list for my next trip to Yorkshire. I hope I can remember some of the myriad facts about its history as I walk around it. What a diverse and historically interesting place - I feel I have lost out by not discovering it before. Thank you Dr Kellett.

Great video. I grew up in Knaresborough 55 years ago and it has hardly changed! I have lived in Perth, Western Australia for 55 years. Went to Castle Girls school and St James Grammar School. Video brought back many memories. Well done.

    Absolutely loved this video.
First time I've ever come across Arnold Kellet. He most certainly had amazing skill at putting the history across and I shall look out for more, including some of his books.
Despite all the research I have done so far I learned more here for my holiday itinerary for this year.
    Can't wait to visit Knaresborough.

A great video! I've lived in Knaresborough all my life. I walk around the castle and St Robert's Cave all the time with my dog. This video helps me understand I'm a small part of something much bigger than myself.

You can take the girl out of the town , but you can't take the town out of the girl .
My school teacher , the father of Tim one of my peers , who later was in Simply Red ...
Really interesting this .. 900 years history of my native town .
I will always remember Mr Kellett taking us all into the Castle Yard. in our King James's School tartan uniform on a foggy November 1970's morning , frightening us to death with ghost stories and the history of Knaresborough Castle.
A really lovely man he was.

@@carolcrawford5192 Sadly Mr Kellett is no longer with us. But he is very much alive in our memories and on film. He wrote books too. Maybe you should investigate? .

I left Knaresborough 45 years ago, Fond memories of growing up there. I served my apprenticeship as a carpenter and joiner in Green Dragon Yard.

Thank-you so much for uploading this. I was born in Knaresborough and christened in St. John's church. My parents were educated at King James' Grammar School and I met Nancy Buckle on one of our visits back 'home' from Canada. All these lovely views which are shown here are familiar to me and yet I have learned so much from Dr. Kellett's talk on the town. I had tears in my eyes from the pleasure I felt watching the video.

A lovely film. Arnold Kellett - The Richard Attenborough of Knaresborough. Superbly presented and narrated with some great history. Would love to know more about our Bank Chambers apartments, within one of few buildings of the era in this area to be brick built and one of the oldest bank buildings outside of London.

There is a DVD on The History of Knaresborough & Harrogate that covers everything in the area. This forms part of a 62 part-series of talks on Yorkshire. These are given at Christ Church in High Harrogate on Wednesday mornings at 9:30am for two hours (next series 7th Sept 2016-Christmas). Am also leading three walks in Harrogate in late October for the Council's Healthy Living initiative (dates tbc). On 3rd October giving a talk at Rossett School at 7:30pm on Knaresborough. I don't even live in the area!!

Oh my! Arnold taught me French at school and when he was mayor of knaresborough I was his deputy 😅 I dare say many won’t know that his son Tim was part of the original hit band Simply Red.

The caption says that Knaresborough was Kellett's "home town". He was actually born in Wibsey on the southern outskirts of Bradford, as is mentioned in a few of his books. He later became a teacher in Knaresborough and then became Mayor of the town. Perhaps it was his adopted "home town".
