  • Kidwelly Castle History & Tour / Mighty Monument of Norman Power
The Norman Kidwelly Castle is located in the town of Kidwelly in Carmarthenshire, Wales, overlooking the River Gwendraeth. During a period when South Wales was the target of conquest, the castle was built in the early part of the 12th century by Roger, Bishop of Salisbury who was one of King Henry I most trusted servants and held the title of Lord Chancellor. Along with other castles in the area such as Llansteffan, it was built to keep the conquested lands secure.

Excellent! This is exactly what we poor people need who don't live in castle rich regions like Wales.

I'm glad you got round to visiting this castle. I have been here twice (its a long way from were I live ) but its one of my fav. castles ,so impressive . As soon as u get through the main (massive) gatehouse you come to what is almost another castle, you will know what I mean. It never ceases to amaze me the time and effort than went into building these castles. I have visited most castles in south Wales,I would say the best castles in the U.K are in the north and south Wales.I just love your passion,I have the same passion. Your history lessons are second to none. Is it just a passion you have ,or are you a historian . Thanks 🙂

Hello Keith. We were very struck with just how impressive the gatehouse stood when we visited, and like you, are always in admiration of the design and construction of these wonderful landmarks. It is a passion of ours - researching, visiting and sharing their stories, and having such wonderful feedback just delights us. Thank you very much for your kind words and support.

Thank you. Ghost stories and castles go very well together, most castles seem to have a resident ghost. With castles it is amazing to look at them and imagine how they once were and those that lived there. Hope you get to start visiting castles again soon.
