Sometimes there are people looking for a fight. The guy didn't think you were new to the game, he just wanted to share how long he's been playing. Great you focused on the positive and talk to someone else who was being kind... Great video, because it's good to know a problem before you have to deal with the issue. Hope others can just walk away too.

I took a starter job. Done with that now. (Yes, I am old). It provided me free golf. We always had two members that thought they were in charge. I had to get the manager several times. I hate self-importance, pomposity. It is absolutely NEGATIVE energy. At the course, it SHOULD be a relaxing, fun place. I used to tell folks, any issues with patrons, call the clubhouse, I will get informed, I will deal with it, you focus on your round. Momma always said, smile, it is free, and people like it. The older I get, her words are more true.

Thank you for sharing that. As I have mentioned before, I am new to golf and been learning on my own for the last 3 yrs (seasons for me because 6mths out of the year I have snow). I agree with you, if everyone chips there that it should be Ok for you too. I played in my first Senior Tournament last year (only have to be 50 in our area and I'm 51 now) and one of the gentlemen that was in our group was rude to me and always tried to hurry me up, even though it was fine for him to take his time. Finally, a different gentleman in our group told this guy to knock it off and that this guy (me) was new to golf. I did apologize to this guy for "slow" playing but over all, my experience in my first Senior Tournament was good and I'm glad another gentleman said something.

When i practice on a flat surface and on matts, i know im stricking the ball well, its on the course that i have trouble with like the thick grass and the hills/slopes. If he's been playing for 60 years that would make him at least 70 years old (my age) and he just wanted to make you feel inferior while making himself feel superior. TOTAL FAIL. Had a course marshall be that jerk to me at one of the local muni's here. No groups 2 holes behind us and on 9, 13, and FREAKING 17, he comes up and tells us we need to pick up the pace and that were slowing the course down....with no groups 2 holes behind us the entire time.
When he came up on the middle of 17 I said "If I wanted to spend 75 bucks just to get bitched at, I woulda just paid the Hulu bill and not taken the trash out." Dude was gobsmacked that there was any pushback at all, and just left us alone to finish our last 1.5 holes of golf. Who does that?
It was like he got to the course and thought "Huh. Not enough insufferable jerks out here today. Lemme change that."
    Wont play another stroke there.

  • @Predilus
    @Predilus 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

Well from a course management point of view they could add sings everywhere that say: putting / chipping / chipping&putting
This way nobody has to guess or even worse bully people
If you have to guess at a place you're not familiar with always go to the staff and the pros FIRST before confronting any players. You know etiquette is something that makes this sport enjoyable for everybody, lets keep it that way
The compromise would have been to join in putting until he is finished putting. It could well be that the chipping was irritating him. It's a sign the a players focus is not where it should be: strike ball clean and roll into hole. If you have trouble with focus, a mixed chipping/putting green is the right place to overcome this. Get over it and start to focus harder

I deal with people like that often,
    1. my response is to be over agreeable (your right the practice green would be a better spot)
    2. Find common ground and stroke their ego, ( I see your a good putter, have you played here often what's the hardest hole?)
    3. Get them to do or omit to have done what they are complaining about, ( lets see who can chip closer to that hole) or (I know just by looking at you ,you have chipped here before ) say it with praise and laughter
    4. Let them win, and or brag up their story ( man that's awesome) (I knew it)
    5. Get acquainted ( what's your name? we should play a round some time)
Go back to doing what you were doing and guaranteed this person will now defend you instead.
Treat them positively like they are ten and they will feel like a ten.
I've played Mexico ,Us and Canada , most courses don't want you to chip on the practice putting greens but many people do, so he wasn't wrong however life is better played in the grey area than by the book. this is more about how to deal with small minded people.

Unfortunately everything that makes golf a great game is lost on a few entitled individuals. There seems to be at least one at every course. You've just met the "Jugde Smales" at your course. Keep smilin' and enjoy your day, because that type never finds joy in anything. Just my 2 cents 😄

The old duffer was close to being right, in that MSH was chipping on a putting green, and likely is newer to golf than a 70 year old. But telling a fellow golfer to get off his lawn makes him wrong.

Here's something to say about the golf community as a whole.........I didn't hear you or anyone in the comments turn this into a racial thing. If this had been almost any other situation involving a confrontational jerk (at a restaurant, a sporting event, etc.), the first thing the content creator or the folks in the comments would have reached for would have been a race card. Thank you for keeping it classy, and thank you to the golf community for keeping it civil and classy (except for the jackass old man who wanted to argue with you).

I know a couple places I frequent that have" no chipping" signs on practice putting greens that I personally don't chip on because the practice chipping green is almost right next to it at both places. But I still see guys chipping onto the putting green and the starters just ignore it as long as no one is putting. So if there's a sign I don't, if there's no sign I assume it's OK or else they'd put a sign there. Sounds like this was one of those guys that is just angry at life and tries to make everyone else miserable too. You handled it well. And man, if you can't have good vibes on a good course then there's something wrong with you. Whatever problems I'm dealing with get thrown in my trunk with my street shoes for a few hours while I'm on the course. Life's too short. Like my putts. 👍

I played around 100 rounds over the past year and I developed a lot of pet peeves along the way. However, chipping onto a putting green would not bother me enough to be on my top ten list of annoyances, so it certainly wouldn't merit lecturing someone over. Much higher on my list of grievances would be things like slow play, golfers cutting in front of me, local residents hanging out on the fairways, unraked bunkers, etc.

I was a teacher/coach at a small course in the Bay Area of Ca and I was at one hole practicing putting. Just the one hole, not the entire green. I was doing ladder drills and spoke drills just working on my getting the ball in the hole stroke. This guy comes up to me and says "Hey, you can't monopolize a hole on this putting green." The putting green was empty, there was no one on it but he and I. He had like 6 other holes to put to. I was in a corner of the green trying to stay out of the way. I ignored him and continued putting. He said he was going to get the manager. I told him I was the manager. lol. He didn't have much to say after that. Some people just like to be dicks. Golf is full of them, unfortunately. You did the right thing. 👏

It's a golf course's responsibility to manage and regulate the traffic in the practice areas. If a green is solely intended to be a putting or chipping green, there needs to be signage. Leaving things open for interpretation and "unspoken rules" isn't a good practice for a public facility.
My point is that if the golf course really intended for it to be a putting green and nothing else, they would have put up a sign. You did nothing wrong and that guy was just being a "Darren". His lack of self confidence needed an extra boost that day and unfortunately you were his validation victim. I'm sure he spent all 18 holes blaming his bad shots on the grounds crew and mother nature.

Some people have an over inflated sense of their own importance. Thus they push their imaginary “weight “ around in an effort to intimidate others. The Ted Knight character from Caddie Shack comes to mind. You lucked out that the starter came over giving you somewhere else to focus your attention. Keep chasing the little white ball.

I used to play Woodruff years ago so I was surprised to find your channel and derive happiness from the content . The same thing happened to me but I am new to golf. Some grumpy man gave me a hard time while chipping. Being new to golf I just walked away. I later asked one of the golf pros if it was OK to chip onto the green that I was chipping to (there were no signs stating no chipping). The pros said it was fine and they chip there all the time. I guess some people are just miserable humans. I wonder if there was a racial component to your jerks condescending comments. Thanks for you great content.

Golf is a friendly game of skill, etiquette and class. Obviously you have that. Obviously the other guy is an entitled, egotistical hack who lacks at least 2 of the 3. He is the one who is "new to golf" because no matter how old he is or how long he has played he has a lot to learn about sportsmanship and the game.
