    Is the wiring for the fuel injection system completely separate from the wiring of the rest of the truck? What do you have to rewire when you ditch the fuel injection for a carbureted V8?

    • @1953fords
      @1953fords  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So the harness could be split and remove the fuel injection part from the body part. But would take a lot of time and work. You could just leave all the wiring in there and use only the wires needed like coil distributor etc. I wanted to simplify it and make it as easy as possible. That’s why I re wired the whole truck. Hope this makes sense to you. Thanks for watching

    Is the C4 the original tranny? I have an 86 Ranger with a 2.9L V6 and would like to stay with the 2.9 but go with a carb my only problem is finding a distributor with points that will fit the 2.9L. The available parts for this motor are limited. Also I am going to change the rear-end and go with 4.10 gears because of the overdrive tranny and local car shows only that should work out good. If I could get it from the 140Hp up to around 200Hp would be great. any info would be greatly appreciated THANKS!!

    • @1953fords
      @1953fords  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi this is not the original Tranny. The C4 came in tons of older cars with 289’s 302’s. Your aod were always problematic. Ok to switch your 2.9 to carb is gonna be more work than it’s worth. But not saying you can’t do it. As far as points distributor I know the 2.8 shared parts with the 2.9. Or maybe even change your distributor to a after market set up? What would you run for a intake manifold? Also your aod needs the computer to work. In all honesty your cheapest and easiest and simple route would be a stock 289/302 and C4 or a AOD with stock exhaust manifolds like me and even a 2 barrel carb be like 200hp all day and very reliable and piece of cake to work on. Just my thought. But I like to do thinks different at times. So if you want to put the time and research and money sticking with the 2.9 go for it. Good luck. Any other questions dont hesitate to ask. Thanks for watching.

    • @1953fords
      @1953fords  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      First you need to set goals. What are you gonna do with the truck? Use it normal with just a V8? You want to race it? You want to build it for street strip? Easiest to find a donor vehicle. Do you want to keep it fuel injected? Or switch to carb? Auto or manual? A lot of different thinks to consider

    • @martypeavler6172

      I'm wanting to drive the truck. Make it into a sleeper per say. I would like to stay with the fuel injection for ease of starting because I don't know much about carburetors not that I wouldn't be swade to put a carburetor on it. I know a 8.8 rear end is the common swap for the rear end and a c-4 trans is the common transmission to use. My truck is a automatic so I would like to keep it and automatic. My thing is the wiring. I'm pretty much fluent if I have a wiring diagram to go off of but I'm not able to find anything on the web. I also haven't been able to find anyone who will give me any direction to do such things. I know that I will ha e to change the motor mounts and add a oil filter relocation device. Radiator is a given it will ha e to be swapped because the factory 4 cylinder radiator isnt enough for a v-8. So any help would be great from what I know.

      @@martypeavler6172 your on the right track. If you go back thru my videos I go over a lot of info and parts. I wanted it simple that’s why I went carb. Hit the gas pedal once and click the key starts instantly all the time. Any 8.8 out of a say 1993 and up ranger will work. At the junk yard look at the door tag for axle code. You can find the gear you want and limited slip. You could also use a explorer rear but they are 1.5-2 inches wider can’t totally remember. Plus they have disc brakes and 31 spline axles. Motor mounts you can use factory 1994/1995 mustang 302 mounts but swapped side to side. Heater box needs to be notched for valve cover clearance. Headers are a headache. Some fit some don’t. I opted for now for 2001 V8 explorer exhaust manifolds. I even used the factory V8 explorer radiator at first. Worked totally fine. But when I just redid the front suspension I used a custom aluminum radiator that I had purchased originally. Another guy on here Jodi. He did a newer ranger V8 fuel injection A/C everything. You can see how he did the wire harness. But feel free to ask any questions. Good luck.

    I wonder how easy it could be to do a good used v8 swap in my 04'. Never done a swap before. The 4.0 is decent but drinks gas.

    • @1953fords
      @1953fords  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It wouldn’t be to bad getting it in. The time would be all the wiring in your newer truck. The V8 would move your truck around easier but probably use the same amount of fuel honestly.

      I'm doing lowering beams up front. Truck will sit level with the rear. I have a 88 with manual brakes. After researching, you can have a nice brake upgrade. You need to use 89-97 beams, 95-97 spindles. Now you can have dual piston calipers. Someone on Facebook makes a bracket so you can use sport trac rotors (12 or 13 inch). Look up sport track brake upgrades 1st gen Ranger
