    Michael is my favourite ASOIAF TH-camr. His theories are on a different level. Your episodes with him are the best!

    This could be why George specifically told editor that coldhands wasn't benjen. Bloodraven needed direwolves south of wall so told coldhands to save gared so he had a nights watchmen who could open door.

      @michaeldean6380 true if this was on George's mind then cold hands had to be around before benjen went missing. Also gared would have recognised his boss and probably mentioned that to Ned.

    Wish you guys would do something on Euron, Oldtown and glass candles, usually where theories tend to go wild and comically dark

    Maybe the Nightfort Well is the linchpin of the Wall? Burn it, and the entire thing collapses.
    Also, perhaps Mance knew about it, whether from his time ranging or from wildling legends, but just couldn't use it after renouncing his Night's Watch oaths.

    Thanks for another great collaboration. I especially liked the brief mention of what could be at the bottom of the well.
    I'm not sure how they could keep that direwolf calm enough to go through magic door and up some stairs. Could it be possible that there are direwolves in the North but they are rare and hide from humans?

    If the Gates are faces carved into a giant weirwood then I think the Well would have to be on the outside of the Tree so you can pass through both faces.

    As far the wall being the tallest singular structure. I believe the total heigh from the towers over locking casterly rock to the cliffside waters below is the largest single populated drop. Now that I think about there a bunch of silly tall vertical structures for what purpose?

    So interesting. If Mance knew about the gate, surely he would’ve used it instead of climbing the wall to sneak into Winterfell.

    So im only at 39min so whoops if this comes up but do folks think there is any relevance to the fact its Sam who is the only person we see opening the black gate, which seems to be a weirwood face. And then the fact Sam is one of seemingly few rangers who now say their oaths in front of a weirwood tree.
    Also sam says his words in front of weirwood, at castle black this means that they ride out into the haunted wood but at the nightfort when it was the seat of the lord commander maybe new recruits first swore their oaths to this face in particular!
    Maybe no one in stannis' camp are able to open the face for this reason.

    • @TheInsatiableDrBoom
      @TheInsatiableDrBoom หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Maybe the fact Sam has been in front of weirwoods on both sides of the wall AND he swore an oath to the grove of 9(possibly the only standing grove outside the isle of faces).

    The queen funded the entire castle project, not simply the last portion of it. No way GRRM would've written it that way, otherwise. I think she gave the Iron Bank her jewelry, which included heirlooms from old Valyria. The Faceless Men secretly run the bank, and Braavos, and that would be the type of sacrifice they would accept for such a big loan. It also seems likely, the Faceless Men already are motivated to help the Night's Watch.

    Any fort squatters would quickly be noticed, and the Night Watch absolutely would investigate. No way they would allow anyone to live there, but they would allow them to join the order

    I have no idea where to find this fkn video, but regarding the "lord of the flies - night fort" theory, re-reading clash, dolorous edd talk A LOT about "id consume a human if x"... If the canibalism with the black gate as the causation doesnt happen means he changed his mind, its dark, horrrifying, and set up that far in advance as a horrifying moment. "The black gate" is probably gonna have more than one story function, "let thr lord of the black gate come fourth" and they did, they came in the night, cruelty of man.... and the others

      stiv and wallen were both deserters so they could’ve stumbled upon it late at night. maybe they were like playing truth or dare at the wall and one of their dares was go down the creepy well in the night fort. or maybe coldhands showed it to them

    • @swayback7375
      @swayback7375 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@PfyscheStyxprobably closer with your cold hands guess… he’s from the nights watch so he knows the oath, he took Sam and gillie straight to it with no apparent problem or notable incident and tells Sam how to use it, and cold hands seems the work for bloodraven, or they have a shared goal, their connection is unclear but they’re obviously connected.
      I don’t think any of this can be disputed.
      Also we know about quite a few things that must have crossed the wall from north to south.
      In the prologue waymar and gared are 8-9 days from castle black, but could be very near the black gate, or very far depending where they are.
      In chapter 1 Ned beheads gared who Ned claims has gone mad, cuz he had a WILD supernatural story involving magic and Ned ain’t buying any of it.
      Later we find the wolf pups and learn “no direwolf has been sighted south of the wall in 200 years” (the nights watch and their castles existed 8000 years but in the last 200 they’ve dwindled and fallen apart, not sure the link but interesting).
      Then we later meet stiv, osha and co in the wolf’s wood, a combo nights watch deserters and wildlings who are clearly formerly loyal to mance but deserted him too.
      It does not seem likely or even possible for wolves to climb the wall, and a handful of haggard wildling deserters don’t seem likely to make the climb that we see jon make… that was a harrowing climb!
      Speaking of mance, he’s a badass, but his story of climbing the wall along, walking south on the kings road to buy a horse then coming to winterfell to see Robert seems just as likely… not likely at all!
      Especially since he’s also a nights watch deserter, knows lots of stuff he’s not revealed to others or to readers.
      No dispute these things must have crossed the wall somehow, and using a gate seems more likely than any other way that we know and all involve nights watchmen, except the wolves, likely lead there by cold hands and/Or bloodraven.
      I’m sure I’m forgetting something 🤷
      But my money is on all of them using the gate.

    my theory is that the black gate is like the room of requirement and it just randomly appears in different segments of the wall whenever a Back Brother is in need of it, although I have nothing to prove this accept of the fact that people have "lost track" of it .
