Are you trying to texture as you go? Usually a green float would be used first to even it and bring out some sand. Then once it stiffens a little you and do a skip pattern. Could be we just not seeing those steps in the video. If you have trouble skipping with a full size trowel, try doing with a margin trowel. But you will not get the sandy finish under the skip unless you float it first. I hope this helps some.

Let you did great. I always found that if I thinned out a bucket of stucco, It is easier to do the skip trowel finish.

Rapid set is for repair work ,not scratch & brown work over lath as it set in few minutes
