I love that Woody specifies that the cave narrows to "not even as big as his human body." Perhaps this is to differentiate it from his fish body, because we all know that Woody occasionally shape-shifts into a fish, who would have no trouble getting through that restriction.

Id say its so intense to see him tell the story with his eyes closed and reaching out to the rock, like i knew he could literally relive that horrific event second for second and i felt so bad that happened to him. You could tell it really left him with a different view of life itself (as near death experiences do).

This reminds me of the time I was a kid and hiking with my friend and his dad, we stopped a minute to rest near the edge of this huge drop off with one chunk of land protruding about half way down the cliff face. My kid brain jokingly asked his dad what would happen if I tried to jump and slide down to the little chunk, without hesitation he looked me right in the eyes and murmurs “well I think you’d be SOL” his son asked what that is he says “well it means shit outta luck” we got a really good chuckle out of hearing him curse and I never really thought much about what he had said until the first time I had almost drowned a few years later. Like the smooth brained ape I am I got stuck swimming through the rungs of our pool ladder after repeatedly being told not to do said thing but managed to get myself out somehow. I just remember realizing about halfway through being stuck that what his dad said to us that day was in fact not just a funny quote, but a feeling with a lot of remorseful emotion behind it. I’d imagine it’s probably a little bit of what he felt that day, and god would I never wish that kind of fear upon anyone. I’m so happy he was able to get out of that alive
Drowning is a terrible feeling. I remember being drunk and trying to swim across a lake I made it almost half way before realizing I wasn’t going to make it to the other end. So I turned around and literally started panicking as I was going down I was getting close enough to shore I could bounce up for air off rocks on the bottom. But yeah scary feeling and I remember just laying on the beach for like 3 hours unable to move when I made it. 😂 many lessons learned that day

I loved watching Woody on that dive. I have the same mentality that he has on cave "exploring" except with cave diving in general lol. I'm not sure I'll ever venture into any caves but I also never say never. The more I watch your channel the more intrigued I become with it so maybe one day haha. I got a lot of practice ahead of me before I get my buoyancy and trim to THAT level! I'm getting there though, slowly but surely. Great video all around, I definitely vote for more videos of you guys diving.
Woody looked amazing on that dive, the control was excellent to see, and that silt out! omg you see why training is DEFINETLY needed :)
I have bad eyes and night blindness is among the problems. Late one night I took a shortcut home on foot. It was okay at first because there was some traffic lighting the way. But then it all disappeared and I was suddenly in darkness like a cave with no lights and not even any useful sound to navigate by. I usually see well enough that I don't need a cane and am not accustomed to suddenly seeing nothing at all. I had the unusual sensation that I was floating in space even though I could feel the ground under my feet. Then I started walking into trees which didn't feel good, but also a reminder I was in an area where there were potentially animals, and since it was Montana, animals could include, wolves, moose, grizzly bears, lions, and the greater carnivorous land octopus. Eventually I spotted a light which didn't illuminate anything, just a pinprick of like in solid blackness. I walked another mile toward it and got back to the land of street lights. I imagine those guide ropes are comforting in a silted out cave like that pin prick of light. Still do you start worrying what may be in the cave with you, like some as yet unknown animal or a dead body or that you somehow grabbed the wrong line? Or maybe the real question is how do you keep your imagination reigned in?
The line is more than comforting, it is *literally* your lifeline, without it there's a very good possibility uou aren't going to find your way out.
Woody..awesome technique. Very cool to see just how quickly you can go from perfectly clear to zero vis! I cannot imagine how much self control it must've taken for that diver to maintain himself with no vis and a block/collapse! I was sweating watching that one.
Gus..I actually like when things are pointed out like the line, the arrow. Saw the line, but I wouldn't have seen the arrow otherwise.. This was a cool collaboration!! I really enjoyed this. Thanks guys!!

That’s a good looking cave, the water is crystal. It’d take a lot of practice for me to mentally embrace restrictions. Good invention laying lifelines. Need them in cave diving, space exploration, climbing. Outer reaches of existence 💗🧡
The frightened chap @ the beginning whose line got disturbed, I can resonate with the fear/anxiety, except mine related to disorientation in the bush at night, I managed to calm myself to find my way out.

Twin is such a fun cave. And that silt layer is very deep. I know a couple of people who took a soil sample there and measured it at over 8 feet deep.
Basically quicksand.

Never dived before but love watching your videos. I'm claustrophobic so I could never do anything like that at all but your videos give me all the adventure I need without putting myself in a situation where I know I would panic and that could kill me, literally, and put those around me at risk. Never dived and probably won't for a long time, but I love watching your videos, because it gives me the information I never knew before and might need some time in my life. It would be nice to see more dive videos of you guys going into caves
You guys have inspired me to want to start cave diving training 💕 I already started to look into the closest PADI dive shop to me ! I’m so excited and honestly I would have never ever even thought about diving before if it wasn’t for you and your videos. So thank you for opening my eyes to the beginning of a new adventure!
It's a pretty long path to getting to cave diving. You'll want to start off with an open water qualification first and see how you get on with enjoying that. Your closest PADI shop will likely be fine but I'd just like to say, when choosing people to train you, try to make sure the people are professional enough such that you'd trust your life to them. I know people often try to train while abroad on holidays where health and safety isn't taken so seriously and its a big risk to take when they throw you straight in the sea for a first dive experience.
Nice. I have done a lot of dives but never had the proper training for caves because in New York I can't find a place that does it.

It looks so beautiful!! Everytime I've gone diving, I've wondered what it would be like to be the size of a small fish and swim through the corals. I feel like this comes close to what that would be like. Makes me want to go cave diving some day even more!

I have what is probably a stupid question, if y’all don’t mind. I remember y’all saying in other videos that y’all aren’t cave explorers. I know you’d obviously have to be a trained cave diver to do it. What I was wondering, is there training for cave exploring that differs from cave diving? I mean, I’d assume so, but knowing that exploring means nobody else has dove in these caves, is there a way to prepare for that?
Also, a huge thanks for showing us an actual silt out! That was intense to watch! Y’all had the perfect analogy for it in another video, that using your flashlight during a silt out does as much good as using your high beams in fog, no help whatsoever!
Lastly, a while back from a video y’all did, I learned the difference between diving spring and siphon. Seeing particles go by Woody back towards the entrance made me think of this. A while ago, I saw a video of a guy diving a siphon in Tampa. It was crazy seeing how strong it was by the different particles going by him at what I thought was a pretty good speed. Even if I was a certified cave diver, there’s no way I’d do that. Think about any of the videos you’ve reacted to where something went wrong during the dive. Now, you’d not only be trying to get out of whatever bad situation it is, but you’re also trying to get out of there, while fighting a current that’s trying to push you further in. No thanks! Sorry for the long comment, I truly appreciate your time! Oh, and as always, great video!
I am so far from wanting to dive into a cave but the technical proficiency is fascinating to watch
I live in cave city KY. EVERY YEAR, IN SCHOOL, WE ALWAYS WENT ON A FIELD TRIP TO A CAVE. I WAS ALWAYS SCARED, and every time, I was told the same thing. “This cave has been here for hundreds of years. It’s not going to cave in.” In my mind, I always thought the same thing. Hundreds, or thousands of years, means ANYDAY NOW, this thing is going to CAVE IN! It can, and does happen! A cliff facing, just fell off, and killed people, in Brazil. This is why I can never cave dive! I can’t even go in a cave, above water!
As unlucky as this guy was, he was way more lucky! It left an opening! That is not typical! Usually, it covers the opening. That is, if you don’t get crushed by the cave in!

Hey that's my buddy Robbie! Owns a good shop in Tulum. Did a massive six stage two scooter connection with Steve Bogarts, where they met in the middle. They each tied their end of their line to a Champagne bottle they stuck in the silt, shook hands, and each turned around and went their own way.

A few years, my family went on a trip to Cancun, Mexico. We visited a fairly rural part of the area that had a lot of cenotes. The company that owned it offered a tour of a small portion of the caves, but it was completely above water, and I don’t think much of the passages would be good for diving.

I started watching your videos originally just as a suggestion, and I’ll be honest I was in the camp of “this is… a nope for me and I would neverrrr do it” However, since I’ve kept watching now I do want to do it lol. I mean I plan to open water dive for quite a bit before I attempt anything like this, but call me insane now I guess because I want to dive a cave (trained only, I have learned lol). Thanks for all the great work on cave diving education.
I'm not planning on becoming a cave diver but there is some parallels between cave diving and wreck diving that us "just" open water divers can learn from. Boyancy control is lacking in many that haven't been in silty locations.
Lake Steinberg in Germany would be silted out with just regular fin kicking or time of the year. Looking back on it I'm glad my first open water dives was in them conditions. My first dive visibility of maybe a half meter. I almost quit after that one, but I pushed though and completed my open water certification. Second point is I feel that most of the U-tube vids on Scuba diving are full of b.s. and I've found your channel and few others worthy of watching.
I'm one of the odd ones out on using metric system for diving here in USA so the meters made sense to me. 😉

@@DIVETALK Haha gotta start again from the bottom! Expensive hobbies always take time. I've always just been a climber. Believe I've chosen Rockfish Divers for open water course this year. Cold water here on Vancouver Island though so they teach dry suit with open water, lucky me!
I'll 100% plead with you guys to take me diving in warmer water on kiss rebreathers one day!
